Craving more currywurst, I found this location who could deliver! I decided to get a paprika bratwurst with fries. The curry style isn't that close to a Berlin taste, but it was still flavorful. The fries are really tasty, and what makes the currywurst have more depth. You also get a bread roll included, which is rather basic. It was my first night of my LA trip, and I stopped by the Grand Central Market. After doing my rounds fo see what I wanted for dinner, I came across this spot and decided to get it! I ordered the Kaese Sausage on a bun with minced onions and sauerkraut (~$7) and a Side of German Fries (~$5). I also got an 8 oz Mexican Diet Coke (~$2). The bun was way too big! There was a lot more bread than sausage or toppings. I literally ended up ripping more than half of the bun off. The flavor of the Kaese Sausage was pretty good. It was a blend of beef, cheese, and jalapeños. The German Fries were pretty good. The size is good enough to share between two people, in my opinion. After a long day of sightseeing in Dtla and after a few meals, I ended up in the Grand Central Market. I decided to have a snack before heading home. Whenever I'm in GCM, I make it a point to try a different stall each time. This time around, I went to Berlin Currywurst. Although they are famous for their sausages, I tried their fries which are German, not French. German fries are served with bits of bacon, green peppers and raw onions. From the barstool where I was seated, I could see the open kitchen where my fries were made. Service was fast and efficient, not just me but the other patrons as well. The fries were made from scratch so they were understandably fresh. The biggest surprise for me though is the curry catsup. I never had one before so it's a surprise how much I liked it. I find it very funny that I have been going to my one of favorite taco places in Grand Central Market for well over a year now, yet in order to get there I ALWAYS passed by Berlin Currywurst. This ended being one of those "yeah maybe I'll try it next time" kinda places, but I never actually did try it. UNTIL I FINALLY DID. And honestly, I don't know why it took me so long. Berlin Currywurst is nestled kitty corner from eggslut which makes it easily overlooked, but once I saw pictures from Yelp, I knew this was the next place I had to try my next adventure to Grand Central Market. And boy, was I glad I did! The currywurst is definitely a showstopper in my opinion. I paired it with the paprika sausage and was just blown away by the flavors - sweet, spicy, smoky, tangy....I do wish the bread had been slightly toasted though. All in all though, $7 is a steal for this dish! And because I'm a glutton, I also tried the pretzel while at Berlin Currywurst. 8/25/2022 They should really call themselves Berlin-Ketchup-Worst: curry isn't even the primary ingredient or theme, its ketchup. One sausage costs $8, and total of $16 for two before tax; "what a rip off". This a true 1-star experience on Yelp, and fails to represent Berlin. The woman behind the register, with pink highlights in the hair and black cowboy boots was rude, and unwelcoming; she really didn't want to be there. I got vibes that she really didn't like us and that we were just an annoyance. When we approached the register the women didn't even acknowledge us: she knew my girlfriend and I were standing there waiting for her response. The chef, however, treated us like human beings (thank you chef). The Vegan sausage was not good, and the veal/pork sausage was also bad (I'm sorry chef). I've bought myself the exact same Tofu sausages from local a grocery store in the past: I remember them b/c they have a very distinct taste. The veal and Pork sausages were soft as overcooked hotdogs, with zero resistance against the teeth when biting through them. The food is uninspired and you could make this at home with minimal effort. The bread was fresh, I'm sure they didn't make it. Wholeheartedly, I cannot recommend Berlin Currywurst, it is the epitome of a 1-star Yelp experience, maybe even worse. Ok I'm really going back and forth in Berlin Currywurst. I've been meaning to try it since the first time I went to grand central market and it's really just average. We tried the tofu sausage currywurst style and had fries. The tofu sausage is kinda how most veggie sausages are - a little rubbery and the curry wasn't as strong as I would've liked. The fries were nice and crispy though so I'd definitely get those again (though fries are pretty hard to mess up). On the bright side, the food comes out pretty quickly and there's never a super long line so you can count on that if you want a quick snack and aren't trying to wait in line for 5ever. I love Berlin Currywurst because it is a treat for the soul and the belly. Located right across the way from Egg Slut, this German traditional sausage place makes some mean dogs! I really prefer their food to for breakfast and lunch, and I especially love their German fries. I have tried about a million combinations of sausages, sides, and beers but I wanted to highlight my favorites. The menu is simple, easy to navigate, and most importantly, the food usually comes out relatively fast and tastes like a million bucks. They offer 3 distinct "signature" breakfast dishes which include, potatoes, eggs, and a sausage of your choice. My favorite would have to be the Bauernpfanne or sausage hash. This tasty sucker packs all of breakfast essentials in one tasty German sandwich. For the classic, I prefer the brat sausage in a bun, If you want something a little more authentic, you can go with the currywurst (sausage is cut up with slices of bread and sauce on the side). The bun is incredibly fresh and the dogs are good sized and packed with veggies and seasonings. A well rounded and respectable dog! While I have you, please get the German fries. Not sure what kind of secret recipe is used here, but the potatoes are fresh, the fries are thick cut and seasoned well. I get it every time! If you are of age, the sausages can be perfectly paired with a variety of German drafts and bottled beer. The vibe is hard to beat! Of course it gets loud, given that Currywurst is located smack in the middle of Downtown LA best food treasure, The Grand Central Market. You can grab a curry dog with a refreshing brew and take a seat at the bar next to Currywurst, or venture off to one of the tables in the food court. My recommendation? Seemed quite clean. Signage is bold and distinctive. It's still a public market stall with about 4-5 stools at a narrow counter...slightly cramped and industrial. You won't be wanting to linger.....3 stars. Service-The counterman was professional, helpful and energetic. He answered any questions quickly, and gave good advice. A valuable employee in my opinion....5 stars. Food-Got the Paprika sausage, Currywurst style, with a mild spicing. Came with a small, decent white roll on the side. With a bottled Mexican Coke, the freight was $10.00. Got no complaint about that. My issue is that this was likely the SOFTEST sausage I have eaten. Flavor was excellent, but this was almost like meat paste stuffed into a casing. I found the texture to be entirely off putting. Thusly....3 stars, and really it's more like 2.5 stars. During the past couple of weeks, especially, when it was raining non-stop, I've been brown bagging my lunches to work and eating at my desk. While it was great that I was clean eating and saving money but being cooped up inside was beginning to drive me nuts. Thankfully, it didn't rain outside today, and so I was able to take a nice stroll down to the Grand Central Market (GCM) to pick up some lunch and make a quick pit stop into Blue Bottle Coffee for a Cascara Fizz drink. This time, I decided on Berlin Currywurst (known for selling gourmet German sausages), which is located right next to Eggslut (facing Broadway side), and a couple steps down from Ramen Hood. Parking: I work nearby, and so it's within walking distance. They also have parking inside the GCM structure, as well as some street metered parking and paid, public parking lots all around. After checking out the menu, I opted for the $7 (Build Your Own) Sausage, which consisted of: 1. Choose Your Sausage: Nuernberger (veal, pork); 2. Choose Your Style Currywurst or Bun: Bun (comes with minced onions & sauerkraut); 3. Heat Level (Optional): None for me. My meal was quite filling. The Nuernberger bratwurst was flavorful, juicy and huge! The veal and pork flavors had a savory, yet somewhat sweet taste to it without tasting too salty or bland. I was especially, surprised that the minced onions and sauerkraut tasted really good too! I thought that the sauerkraut might be too acidic, and/or the onions might be too overpowering. Amazingly, both tasted sweet, mild and gentle, which paired really well with my bratwurst, woohoo! As for the bread, it tasted a bit stale and was tougher to chew than I would've liked. Next time, I'm going for the currywurst style (mixed with curry ketchup and curry powder) instead. For my side (sold separately), I got a $5 Pretzel. It doesn't come with any cheese sauce but served with mustard instead (optional). I opted for no mustard and the pretzel itself tasted delicious! It was a bit salty at first, but I ended up scraping away the rest of it. The pretzel was crispy on the outside, while tasting soft and fluffy on the inside, yum! Drink: I didn't buy any this time. I was actually craving a Cascara Fizz from Blue Bottle Coffee. Service: The male cashier helping me out was friendly and chilled. Once he got my order down, I ended up waiting less than 10mins. I do appreciate that my bratwurst was wrapped tight and nicely to prevent the juices from seeping out, awesome job! Ambience and Décor: Small, clean and cozy stall, which seats about four people. If it's packed or you don't feel like rubbing elbows with your neighbors, there's always plenty of seats around GMC. The stall and signage itself definitely stands out, you can't really miss it. So today at around 2:30 I decided to stop by Grand Central market to look for something to eat after about 20 minutes of wandering around I finally decided to eat here. What I thought would be a really chill day or vibe turned out to leave me really irritated. The guy at the register didn't look like he was having one of those good days cuz he looked really moody. I politely asked him what would he recommend and he said he had nothing to recommend and I was startled with that response because he didn't even come off friendly or welcoming he just sounded like get your order out and leave to me. I then asked him a follow-up question which was is there any item that's very popular and again he just told me I don't know in a rude fashion. I ldecided to get the pork and veal as well as roasted potatoes because they had no fries just so that I would have something to eat. Finally I get my food once he calls out my name but he doesn't say thank you he doesn't still come off friendly and I asked him for more ketchup and he rolled his eyes. I get to my car he didn't even give me a fork for my roasted potatoes am I supposed to eat these with my hands? I met a friend at GCM (Grand Central Market) in DTLA, and we needed to line our stomachs before a heavy night of drinking. Berlin Currywurst is on the Broadway side of GCM, near mediocre Eggslut. Cuisines offered are Chinese, German, Mexican, Italian (pasta & pizza), as well as a BBQ place, an oyster bar, a tapas wine bar, McConnells Ice Cream, and Golden Road Brewing. I read some reviews, including one by a person from Berlin, and what I discerned is that the currywurst portions are small and overpriced. So, I ordered a brat in a bun w/ kraut ($7) and fries ($4). The brat was very good, and had a nice snap to it. In addition, the kraut was tasty: 4 Stars. We were gonna holla later, so I passed on the onions - LOL. A rec to make it better though, is to find a better bun. This bun was a bit hard in places and was too wide for the brat. Overall, the brat was not as good as nearby Bierbeisl Imbiss. Likewise, the fries were really good. They were hot & crispy, and the portion was in line w/ the price. I'm glad I ordered what I did, because I was full afterwards: 4 Stars. Ambiance consists of a small space w/ a few counter seats. However, there is communal seating adjacent, where I met my friend who was having pizza: 3 Stars. Last time I had currywurts was in Berlin and München 2 years ago. And I ate it almost daily so I will say this: here, they taste very close to what I had there but the dish in itself, is forgettable. Given you really don't get much with the currywurst (A tofurky or similar sausage, sauce, and a good chunk of bread), the bread is an integral part of what amounts to a light lunch or snack. Not a good place to cut corners. Also had the sauerkraut salad, which I really did not enjoy. It did not have the sour flavor I would have expected. The German IPA draft beer on the other hand, was very enjoyable. Although it had nothing to do with the rating, be aware: Seating at Grand Central Market can be scarce. We ended up spending a fair amount of time scouting for a table before settling for counter seating. Facing a wall that was about a foot away. I came in on my lunch break to try the fries because a colleague of mine said that they were really good. The sign says 5$ but when the cashier rings me up it's 7$? I asked the cashier and they said that the owner raised the price but is advertising them for 5$. Anyways, I say whatever it's only 2$ more let me just get these fries and a salad. They are out of salads. I ask for a draft beer. They are out of draft beers. The cashier then proceeded to make my order after handling cash with NO GLOVES. Bare hands TOUCHING my fries.
