Loved the food at Bergdorf Goodman's restaurant on the top floor. Duck Dumplings We started with the duck dumplings, which were really juicy! Great way to wet the appetite while you're waiting for the main! Cauliflower Steak Sadly, they ran out of the lentil soup, which was my first choice, so I settled on the cauliflower steak. The curry sauce that came with it was really flavorful, but to be honest, I was a bit disappointed in that it was a giant slab of cauliflower and broccoli. They didn't really do anything special with the veggies themselves. My rule about food is that if I can make it at home, I don't want to order it out. And this felt like something I could have made myself. I'll try something else next time. Lobster Napoleon My friend always gets lobster napoleon, which was amazing! Really creamy and rich. I was definitely jealous at her order. Lemon Meringue We also ordered lemon meringue for dessert, which was delightfully refreshing after a big meal. It came with some berry coulis. Yum! It went well with a pot of tea, on my end. Perfect way to end the meal! Reservations It's hard to get in, so make reservations way in advance, particularly around the holidays! Ambiance We were seated by a window and enjoyed a view of Central Park. It's nice and light in there, with big windows, so you can look out. It's a bit loud, but given how many people were in there, we could still hear each other. Service We had attentive service and our server checked in just enough, but left us alone to catch up. Went to BG Restaurant for afternoon tea on Sunday around 3pm, and it was an absolute delight! It was our first time there (party of 2), and we ordered a set for each of us. From the beginning, we were welcomed kindly -- Ismael took our coats and showed us to our seats, where we were promptly given menus. The afternoon tea set allows you to choose a pot of tea; we went for the Jardin Bleu and the Nuit en Versailles (fruity), both were great but I preferred the latter! The sandwiches and desserts were great, some were alright/good and others were excellent. We especially loved the clotted cream and scones, which were adorable. All in all, we stayed there for 2 hours and were so full we didn't go for dinner (we had a late lunch). We had a great view of Central Park, and were so glad that we spent our afternoon here. We visited BG Restaurant for brunch. We didn't have a reservation but were seated immediately upon arriving. Service was great. The food was solid but not spectacular. The avocado toast was relatively bland and missing some of the touches that make the dish shine (like feta, a lemony kick, or red pepper flakes). The portion was quite small, too. The croque madame, on the other hand, was quite good--though some were too mustardy. And the latte and cappuccino were both perfectly prepared. The seating area is what really makes this place stand out. You have terrific views of the surrounding buildings and into Central Park, and the mirrors on the wall make sure that every seat gets to enjoy the views. What has happened to one of the most enjoyable and elegant midtown lunch spots? Our salads were lousy--there's really no other word for it. Paltry, skimpy, tasteless, small, carelessly assembled, etc. My kale and quinoa salad had not even 1 teaspoon of quinoa. The beets were undercooked. The carrots that it came with was actually one 1-inch slice of carrot. I asked to have chicken added, just as if it were the Roast Chicken Salad. Instead, I got shredded chicken, mostly dark meat, not adding up to even 1/4 cup. The focaccia was inedible. The multi-grain rolls that were offered as back-up could have been from Zaro's. Something is very wrong in the kitchen. And the prices are high. Bad combination. I've been coming to this restaurant for years, and as my friend said, "this is the last time." I agree. read more

We really enjoy high tea service add BG's in the afternoons. This restaurant is located on the seventh floor of Bergdorf Goodman's women's building. BG's looks over the busy streets of Manhattan especially the Fashion Avenue. You can also get glimpses of Central Park if you're sitting by the whisper chairs. We try to come out there at least every other week for tea and it never disappoints. The service is exceptional and the selection of tea is marvelous. The scones had dried fruit in it and were served warm. The cafe is really nice being on the 7th floor. The view was nice from the windows and the furniture is cool. I had been planning my birthday tea here with three friends for Sunday. My reservation was at 4:45 PM and confirmed by the restaurant. My friend arrives first and on time, as a few of us are running 10 minutes late, and she is told that they don't take reservations for 4:45 and that the kitchen is closed. Upon second inspection the hostess noted that our reservation was in fact listed for 4:45 but insisted that the kitchen was closed. At this point it is 4:53 and I call the restaurant directly. The hostess quickly puts the manager on the phone who says that the kitchen is closed and high tea had been all sold out that day anyway - which is something I feel like maybe they should notify people if they make a reservation at tea time? It was all quite bizarre and highly unprofessional. I was running 10 minutes late and I understand if we had been told there was a policy regarding late arrivals or full party seatings, but instead we got the run around and was told the kitchen was closed an hour before the restaurant even shuts its doors and that "All of the sandwiches, cakes, and loose tea were sold out?" The manager and hostess that I interacted with were very rude but if you're still looking to come here for tea make sure to make an early reservation so that they're not trying to close down the restaurant on you. My cousin had a reservation for a Tuesday lunch at 1:30p. When we arrived, it was packed! Other impromptu guests were told there was an hour wait, so it's a good idea to make a reservation even if you think you're going at a less busy time. The scallops were seared so nicely, toasty on the edges but once in your mouth they melt. Seasoned great. They sat on top of ravioli with ricotta & asparagus with a white truffle sauce & sliced truffle. I don't like overpowering truffle & these ravioli were well balanced. Every bite was delectable, I should have made this my entree which you have the option to. Cousin got the lobster salad which is a layered tower. It was presented lovely & very fresh. She also got the lobster Mac N Cheese which came in a small looking ramekin & tasted like penne vodka with lobster... I still liked it very much though. The lobster napoleon was my cousin's entree & I would have to order that next time! Lobster & pasta tossed in a creamy truffle sauce... wow. I got the seafood gnocchi which had lobster & shrimp in a cherry tomato sauce. The tomato sauce is very fresh & light. The gnocchi is what I enjoyed most which were soft & tasty. They are very filling. To be honest though, I do prefer either the seared scallops & the lobster Napoleon over this dish. And lastly, we had the pumpkin cheesecake to share. Great place for afternoon tea! The interior is beautiful and the servers were polite and patient with our questions. Our group ordered 4 tea pots: Nuit A Versailles, Anji, Jardin Bleu, and Nuit D'ete. I personally liked the Versailles a lot, it tasted quite floral. Anji tastes a bit like boba pearls and was my least favorite of the four, but my friend loved it. For the tea, be careful to take out the leaves if you prefer your tea to be less bitter. As for the food, the tea set included one of each of the following: macaron, bite sized square cake, tiramisu square, meringue bite, scone, deviled egg, salmon on bread with caviar, cucumber on bread, truffle chicken sandwich, egg salad sandwich, and ham brie sandwich. The scones were top tier and the ricotta spread in particular was great. It also came with honey and two types of jam. The tiramisu and macarons were good, but the other cakes were nothing too special. The truffle chicken sandwich and egg were great, and the other savory were just good except for the cucumber one. The jelly/jam was almost liquid like, I enjoy a more solid jelly/jam. There were several mini sandwiches, cucumber, smoked salmon, tuna salad, egg salad and ham and cheese. These were all very delicious! I think the tuna had a bit of truffle, interesting but enjoyable. The sweet selections were a bit too sweet and artificial. I had a special mocktail that was amazing. Sometimes mocktails are better than cocktails (Pro tip #2). The atmosphere is divine. Light cascades in through the windows and the view of the park is impeccable. If you can't reserve a whispering chair table be sure to request a table by the windows over looking the park. Service is very polite and professional. Décor is wonderful throughout the restaurant. Really you can't go wrong here. I am definitely going back for tea some time, especially since I can see from other Yelpers pics tea is served on Bernardaud china, and I'm all about Bernardaud china. On to the food..... the bread basket is slamming and a meal within it's self. My friend enjoyed her Filet of Beef ($36), and it was a surprisingly large portion. I was really looking forward to my salad because I go nuts for an amazing salad and I figured BG's would hit this out of the park, but not so much. It was even one of the most insipid salads I've had in recent memory. Herb and Garlic Marinated Shrimp Salad (farmers salad of romaine, baby arugula, radish, grape tomato, avocado, cucumber, carrot, sugar snap peas, crumbled local feta, red wine vinaigrette $30). There's something to be said about a great bartender and even better service. I was in the city alone for business and wanted to take a half an afternoon to have a nice lunch and glass of wine with a great view, and do some shopping. Going to Bergdorf's was something of a treat for myself, although I'm not really averse to nice restaurants and shopping. But I am from the Midwest and we spend our money differently and more discriminately here. That being said I feel like every penny of the $75 lunch I had at BG's was worth it. Mostly in part due to the impeccable service by Nick the bartender. I arrived alone there was no table for me so I gladly took a seat at the bar. Not only were Nick's recommendations spot on..He had an effortless way about him that suggested he genuinely cared about his position and cared about the experience that the diners had. I don't care who you are, as a person who is also in the service industry, too often people forget that we are of service to other people. When we do it we take pride in it. People like Nick are hard to find these days. BG would do well to acknowledge and reward this type of service. The food was exceptional by the way, the view and ambiance kind of great.. and literally made my afternoon perfect. I wish I liked this place better. The ambience and the view by the window is absolutely amazing. Bergdorf definitely lives up to its reputation as a fancy establishment. I came here for afternoon tea with a girlfriend on Saturday around 3pm. The tea and champagne were great, but the food was not. The sandwiches were stale and the sweets were nothing special. The scones were probably the best thing we had but I've had better scones at other tea rooms. For what we paid (over $60pp with tax & tip) it wasn't really worth it. I am a huge fan of high tea - but this place just wasn't my favorite. It's a decent one-time experience to have, but I wouldn't go back. This place just keeps posting the same automated, generic message to bad reviews to fake some sort of "customer service," but they don't do anything or even respond (we had to call the restaurant) and they don't actually investigate or follow-up with tangible action. Literally RUN AWAY from this place and their "customer service." After a lengthy, extremely critical review, customer service, specifically Simone from BG/Neiman Marcus, called only to say "thanks for the feedback, but we can't do anything." What exactly were they "investigating further" and following up on except being condescending? Simone said that we should have "voiced our opinion" right there - sure, make a big scene at my mini baby shower in front of 2 invited friends/guests (who I was embarrassed to have had this experience with)...that makes sense BG. I have had similar situations in past, posted a Yelp review and was offered a refund (e.g. for a Mediterranean restaurant in the UES $181 - $90/person, do the math), so yes, it's entirely possible to settle issues outside a crowded restaurant. Simone also had the audacity to say we should "look at our price range and see what was offered." We're clearly willing spend $ for quality food. My mom called the restaurant 3 times and asked specifically for vegetarian items as most of our party was - I guess that means BG's well-paid Directors and chefs only know how to make egg salad and deviled eggs (wait is that a tea sandwich?). Also not really sure how I'm supposed to tell how good the quality of food is by pictures? All the "pastries" (aka mostly cookies) looked fine in pictures, just tasted like bland sugar bombs. As I said, I went to The Savoy in London (high-end hotel where the now King Charles III frequents) and I was offered multiple rounds of tea and each layer of VEGETARIAN food (if BG wants some inspiration I can send them pictures). I had to turn the food down because I was so full and it was fantastic. There is a way to do this, but BG just doesn't care because they make tons of $ off of the millionaires who go there to eat garbage and think it's yummy because it's from BG. I mean they sell low quality $85 BG playing cards outside their restaurant, that should be a hint (note: get Theory 11s if you're really interested in high quality playing cards with detail - oh and they're $10 each). There's words I can't state here for this and the completely useless outreach from "customer service." Waste of $700+, save your freaking money from this HORRENDOUS place and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! On a mother/daughter trip to NYC, we wanted to have a really special experience and afternoon tea at BG was just the place for that! The restaurant, set on the 7th floor has extraordinary views of Central Park and has the cutest decor throughout the restaurant. BG Restaurant has been mine and my husband's annual Day after Christmas lunch tradition because the store is still so festive and all of the sparkling glittery decorations in their Christmas section on the same floor (7th floor) is 50% off! We love going up through the store floor by floor on the narrow escalators, eyeing the designer fashions, wishing for a miraculous deal, maybe 70% off retail price? After Lord & Taylor, Henri Bendel and Barney's closed, Bergdorf Goodman seems to be the last of the iconic department stores in NYC and we treasure it! Love Bloomingdale's but we really only went there to lunch in their train car restaurant (it was so cool!). Last weekend we invited one of my coworkers (who is moving to Texas poor thing!) to join us for lunch. BG restaurant had a line in the hallway before it opened. We didn't mind because we were admiring all of the many fashion illustrations framed on the walls, some of which are now on loan at the Dior exhibit at Brooklyn Museum. A lady in a short lavender fur coat was in front of us. Even though the hostess asked and then the manager came over, this lady refused to show her proof of vaccination. Her poshly dressed friend was already seated at a window table. The manager was apologetic but firm that since the one lady did not have proof of vaccination he could not allow her to enter the dining room - both of them had to leave. We felt relieved that the restaurant abides by government guidelines. As always, I ordered the lobster salad which came to the table as a layered melange stack of avocados, greens, and lobster. Very light and healthy. My husband was hungry and ordered the seafood gnocchi with shrimp, crab and lobster. He shared 5 bites with me and I said "hell with the diet, I'm ordering that dish next time!" We were delightfully shocked at how huge the portion was. Service is elegant, professional and patient from the hostess, server and manager. If you want to experience a glamorous throwback of the NYC everybody dreams about, go to BG restaurant now! It's not cheap but well worth the experience. Not sure if their Palette cafe is still open in the store basement, another amazing experience since you have to walk through the cosmetics department (Imagine the opening scene from Oceans 8 with Sandra Bullock), but if so, stop there too. I consistently experience good food, drinks, and service here. My future mother-in-law comes here often, and has been doing so for years. I have been coming with her several times a year for the last few years. There is always a dish that can be done vegan (perfect for me!), most recently the wonderful cauliflower dish that blows me away with flavor each and every time. Wonderful! Staff members have always been pleasant, informative, and attentive. The restaurant and tables itself are always clean and well-kept. It is imperative to remember that coming here is to be an enjoyable food and social experience, do not come here if you are on a timeline. It is best enjoyed relaxed, as service may not always be prompt, however, this allows for socializing and catching up, so I prefer this! The wine list is plentiful (with a fabulous brut rosé), the menu is as well, boasting many entree choices for others who dine with me that are not vegans. Made a second visit to BG for afternoon tea, four years after my first. I can't tell if it's gotten worse in quality, or I've just realized what a not-great deal it is. Here are the pros - The reservations are very easy to get even just a few days in advance. The price point is on the lower side for afternoon tea in NYC ($45pp versus $60+ that you'd find elsewhere). It's a nice place to take visiting friends/family because of the location, and you might get seated by the windows that offer a Central Park view (we didn't). But here are the overwhelming cons that make this a not-recommended spot for tea: - The portions are very small. I usually come out of afternoon tea completely filled to the brim but you won't get full here. You only get 1 small scone per person, which comes with butter (it was partially melted - you cannot convince me this was proper Devonshire or clotted cream) and jarred honey and jam (not fresh fruit preserves - you can find Bonne Maman jam at any supermarket). There were 5 TINY savory sandwiches (the cucumber sandwich was literally ONE cucumber slice). - The tea selection is very bad. There is only a list of ~10 to choose from, and none of them were particularly high quality. The majority were fruit infused teas, and all of them were just mixes from different regions. We tried the Anji (white tea) and the Earl Grey and both were meh. - The petit fours were all way too sweet. There wasn't much variety in texture/flavor. - Service was just fine, but not great (needed to ask for things twice). read more

BG s is always one of my go to lunch spots or Tea times when I'm in Manhattan. This small upscale restaurant is yummy and filled with interesting people. The last time I was there I met a young couple from Texas seated beside us who flew in on their G6 for a quick lunch at BGs. The food is wonderful and the restaurants ambiance is just as impressive...a must try for Lunch or Tea later in the afternoon. read more

This restaurant was amazing! The food was delicious. The place was so cute and the service was superb. Our server Jessica was so sweet and even gave us the lemon meringue dessert (her favorite) free for us to try. I recommend all these dishes.
