Me and my friends went here to see what all the hype was about. Once we sat down we were getting kicked out because of the new protests (not their fault), So we got our food to go to help them out. When we got our food 2 orders were messed up, the orange chicken was soggy and barely had any sauce, the other 2 dishes were swimming in broth and was definitely not worth the money. First off: the name of this place is just stupid. Before arriving I thought it was a fast-food joint, but no, it's a quasi-swanky restaurant where things are a bit overpriced. Our waiter went into a long schpiel about how you can pick your own veggies from their large produce area and have them cook that into your dish. That way you can choose your veggies and the quantity of them; I thought that was pretty cool. We didn't have time for that, though, since we were headed to a movie. My girlfriend got the green curry tofu and it was pretty tasty, the bite I had. I got a peanut chicken dish that was supposed to be hot, but wasn't . It wasn't even hot when I put a bunch of chili sauce on it. The taste of the dish was OK; they give you a lot of food, but it wasn't very memorable; kinda washed out and watered down Thai. The chicken had little flavor. For $12-15 for an entree, I would expect more flavor but I guess this is OK for a mall-chain Thai/Chinese joint that would like you to believe it's a swank upscale joint with a lot of class. Big Bowl is generally a pretty cool place if you know what to order. If you don't... the experience can be a little disappointing and more than a little budget-straining. I had a cruddy day yesterday and wanted some alcohol. I chose Big Bowl's Triple Berry Sangria... yawn. It wasn't great. Sickly sweet and a little blah; it was as though they just gave me a glass of white wine with sugar and some crushed berries mixed in. After that I switched to the house-made ginger ale, which was pretty dang delicious--but it was $3.50 a glass, and no free refills! We didn't find that out until the bill came at the end of the meal. Yikes! I've been here before and had the hibiscus iced tea, which is wonderful, and you do get free refills. I think I'll stick to that from here on out. I had the Panang Chicken Curry, which is the new version of the old Clay Pot Curry. I know it's the same recipe... but I miss the clay pot. Is that lame? Probably. But it just wasn't the same as it used to be. We finished with the Banana Cashew Eggroll... dang. I'd get that every day if I thought my metabolism could take it. YUM. The atmosphere was cool, and our server was friendly and attentive, but I think we'll go elsewhere on our next night out. Big Bowl is a regular place for my family. It has house made ginger ale, great cocktails, and most importantly to me, they are huge on local and sustainability. They even have transitioned from plastic to cardboard straws. I also start my adventure with the Pho, which is a traditional vietnamese chicken noodle soup. They serve it in a bowl with fresh crunchy sprouts, a lime slice, jalapenos, fresh basil and cilantro, then you can add them all to the broth with the freshly cooked local chicken. It is really good. For entrees, I always get the seven flavor chicken. It is lemony and has roasted peanuts in the hoisin sauce. Another go-to is the stir fry bar. You can choose your pasta, rice etc, then your sauce and your meat. The veggie bar has locally grown and harvested options. The deserts also change with the seasons, so the ingredients are aways very fresh. I love the mango cheesecake (when it's in season of course). read more

I spend most of my year in Los Angeles these days, and there's loads of good asian food over there. Since I was home for the holidays, and I sort of craved some SE Asian noms, my best friend and I made a return visit to Big Bowl. I came here once when I was in elementary school or something and most markedly unimpressed. Granted, I hated Asian food at the time. Now that I have two summers in China and half a year in Australia (tons of SE Asian cuisine to be found there) under my belt, I find Asian food way more tempting. I got a claypot panang thai chicken curry. I love the richness of coconut based curries, and this one did not disappoint. In fact, it was a little spicy, too! Super bonus. Sometimes coconut curries come on too strong, and you get sick of the taste before you're halfway done with your food. I'm happy to report that this was not the case during my visit. My friend got a yellow thai chicken curry, and it was kind of sour. I don't know if proper thai curry is ever that sour; I've never experienced it in any case. Anyway, I liked my food, and you may as well. :) The portion size was great, and I ended up with a box of leftovers. We got a gift card for one of the Lettuce Entertain you restaurants for Christmas. Our server was awesome -- food was so so. App of potstickers were yummy. We would order those again. Husband tried the ginger ale made in house - wasn't in love with it. it was VERY gingery. He had shrimp pad thai - loved his. I had chicken pad thai - a little disappointed in the lack of veggies in it (used to mounds of carrots / cabbage etc), but taste was good. I asked what the "normal" spice level was -- and based on the response of my waiter, got it kicked up a little. BIG MISTAKE. A little more spicy than usual to them meant 5 alarm heat. No joke - I like medium spicy food (normal mom & pop places, I order a 3 out of 5), but this was SO HOT. I drank a ton of water and had trouble feeling my mouth for the rest of the night. I'd go back if I were in the mall, but probably not as a destination dinner. read more

PROS: Out of these big chain type restaurants Big Bowl is probably one of the best. They have descent calamari, chicken dumplings and I usually order their yellow curry Thai dish. Their best feature would have to be the happy hour. Lots of good appetizer selections very well priced. CONS: Service is average and the food definitely tastes like how chain-type restaurant tastes- High-calorie, lots of processed flavor as opposed to fresh ingredients. PARKING: All Big Bowls I have been to have had plenty of parking. All-in-all, if you're stuck at a mall, and you're surrounded by a bunch of chains, Big Bowl is a safe bet. read more

Ordered food from Big Bowl via Uber Eats while staying near the airport and it did not disappoint! Currently on the keto diet, so I was extremely pleased to see cauliflower rice on the menu for a $1 up charge (no additional charge when ordering cauliflower fried rice dishes). Started going here about 5 years ago and even after I moved away, I always make it a point to get at least one meal here. There's just this specific taste to their dishes (I don't know what they use in their sauce) that I can never find anywhere else! It's so tasty!!! I used to always get sesame chicken or hot & sour shrimp.. Since the menu changed, I think i tried the Thai shrimp and scallops and it was just as good. Portions are generous and all the ingredients they use seem very fresh. Even their iced ginger ales (a must-order!) are super fresh and extra gingery, which I love. Big Bowl has always been a spot for family and friends to meet me. The food is fabulous and the staff is always knowledgeable and professional. My adult daughter and I continued that tonight. Hers and my history go back at Edina Big Bowl for dad/daughter date nites and other special occasions. Tonight, just a meet and both of us decided to go here. Once again, the service started excellent and just got better. David helped us out in getting our drinks, food order and everything we all expect in a dining experience. But wait, this was different. David was amazing, it was like we knew David forever. He was a step ahead of us despite our table conversation. He did so in such a friendly, caring and non imposing manner. Our food was so amazing, I ordered two more meals to take to work this week. I never call a restaurant after I leave. Tonight I did. I told the manager that everything was fantastic just like we expected because that's always what we experience there. The other staff that stopped by our table were great as well, the hostess that had seated was wonderful. But at the table and walking to our cars, my daughter and I talked about David. He was the person you would love to adopt as a new family member! David, if you read this, I hope you are there the next time we visit, but let me tell you this. You will be successful in everything you do in life. You have the people skills & confidence that a lot of people need and will never achieve. The atmosphere is lovely and trendy in a fun way. The service was great. Waiter was friendly and helpful. But I thought it was too expensive for what you get. I had the combination summer roll, veggie tofu pad thai and ginger ale. The summer roll was very good, although they cut it up into too small pieces which made for a very pretty presentation, but also made it a little too messy to eat comfortably. I would recommend asking them to leave it uncut. The pad thai was too sweet, but the veggies were fresh and tasty. It grew on me and I did join the clean plate club. I'm surprised to see the ginger ale getting a lot of thumbs up in the reviews here. I didn't care for it at all. It was too sweet, and the sweetness had a weird off taste to it, as if it had been partially sweetened with stevia or something other than actual sugar. But the waiter and manager were great about it and took it off the bill. If you like fresh fare, and don't mind sweet not very authentically Asian food, and are okay with dropping a few extra bucks for a place with great date night potential, I'd give it a thumbs up. I can see why it's so popular. But I'll probably opt for cheaper, more authentic fare somewhere else next time. read more

Nice variety, emphasis on local produce, busy but not crowded, no wait at 1 pm on Friday. The spiciest curry in Edina. Worth the price. The open kitchen lends to the atmosphere of a SE Asian food court. Not particularly suited for a quiet conversation, more for an hour or two of enjoying life. The penang curry was blended spiciness with rich coconut milk. The red hot pepper noodle chicken dish had a sourish taste that is not my favorite combination. The szechuan steak was spicy but not over powering, a very filling dish. We like trying the different teas, Moroccan Mint, was a nice surprise on this fall day. read more

I've only been to this location about 2 or 3 times, but I'm hooked! My last visit, I went with my godfather. I think I ordered orange chicken with jasmine rice and pot stickers. The waiter was extremely friendly and on-it, which was really quite great. The food was fantastic - the orange chicken had the perfect amount of chicken flavor in it, and the rice was as good as rice gets. I enjoyed the pot stickers and the sauces - they were all really good, but I think I'll stick to soy sauce. There was a drink I had, but I can't remember what it was called...it was like a ginger/orange soda or something like that. It was good, but a little spicy for my taste. If you get it, make sure to have a glass of water, too. The restaurant is almost always crowded, but it's nothing too distracting, although the noise level can get a bit annoying. I usually don't have a problem getting a seat, and the waiters are patient with you if you get frustrated. So, all together, I like it! read more

Ordered online via "Dining In" website. Somehow the order got a little muddled (I think the gluten-free part got them mixed up) and we ended up with 2x gluten free Pad Thai. It was absolutely delicious. Our server Morgan recognized that we were celebrating a special occasion, and brought us a dessert. She was very attentive and sweet! Went there at 4:35 on Monday Feb 20. My husband got a booth. There were few people there but a couple waiting in the hall. A kid came over and told us that the table was reserved. I said you have a ton of tables. Why this one? The woman he called over said that we had to wait until 5 p.m. as there were only 2 waitstaff working at that time. Why would a restaurant have 2 waiters working so close to dinner. Wait for fifteen or more minutes until they get help there. The Bowl is going south fast. Many years ago, I went to Big Bowl when it first opened. I hadn't been back until a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't that my first experience was bad. I think it was because I was young and hadn't realized how much I truly love Chinese food. A few weeks ago, a friend and I had the Crispy Sichuan Eggplant to start. It was excellent, very flavorful and the perfect amount of spicy. I ordered the Panang Curry Chicken and my friend had Kung Pao Chicken. I tried some of hers and it was excellent. Again, very flavorful and a nice amount of spice. You can get extra chili if you want it spicier. My dinner was amazing, one of the best curries I've ever had. The sauce is a delicious blend of coconut, peanut and lemongrass. Even though I was long past full, I continued to eat more of my dinner because it tasted so good. The portions were quite large, leaving plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. Despite us both being stuffed, we had to have dessert. My friend got the chocolate lava cake and I got what looked like a spring roll stuffed with bananas and cashews. Of course, we tried each other's desserts. The chocolate lava cake was OK. It's just such a common dessert that it's hard to find an exceptional version of it. On the other hand, my dessert was phenomenal. It was fried so the shell was light and crispy. It came with ice cream and caramel sauce to drizzle. I honestly can't stop thinking about that dessert. I want to go back there just for that. Tonight I decided to stop again for take out. I love Mongolian beef. It's my overall favorite Chinese dish. The menu clearly shows their Mongolian beef as not being spicy, but I thought for sure that couldn't be right. Every Mongolian beef is spicy. I ordered it because I had to try it. Their menu is correct. It has absolutely no heat in it whatsoever. It is still very tasty, I just wish it was more traditional and a spicy version. If you've always wished for a mild Mongolian beef, then this is definitely for you. I also had the Chicken & Peanut Egg Rolls. Those are also delicious. They're very close to being a traditional egg roll, but the addition of peanuts gives them a little different taste and more crunch. I really loved them and would definitely order them again. Their menu has a lot of variety and there are several other options I want to try. I'll definitely be back to try those. I'll dine in the restaurant so I can get another of those delicious banana-cashew-spring-roll desserts! read more

I like this place despite the over-stated bravado of the staff. As with any Lettuce property (if you don't know what that's short for -- Well, go google it...), you'll find it to be competently run, and the 'show' is carefully controlled to give the appearance of something that organically grew out of its own (as opposed to a tightly scripted creation of a very good product development team out of Chicago). If you're not willing to live with that layer of show business, don't go here. I, for one, am willing to let the 'show' go on -- It's fun, and the food isn't all that bad (a little bland, but that's probably accommodating Minnesota tastes more than anything). This place kicks major ass. The meat preparation (cutting off the silver stuff) pre-wok cooking is impeccable. I'm in the LEYE club and not only hit their restaurants all the time but Big Bowl especially. This Big Bowl stomps a mudhole in other restaurants. NOW they redid the interior so it's even more awesome. The spicy peanut noodles are awesome. The kung pao beef is awesome. The chicken teriyaki is awesome. The ___________ is super awesome. Called Big Bowl before we went there as v r vegetarians. V specifically told them that v don't eat any seafood or eggs either. They told us there r several options for us. All the things v wanted to eat had some sort of meat or fish sauce. They gave us only 2 options, one being the Kyun noodles and second being stir fried veggies. So that's what v ordered. The noodles put my mouth on fire and I can eat some spice being Indian. The stir fry had no sauce or salt. They couldn't make us fried rice without eggs. The server was rude and in a hurry. Never once apologized. Management never even came up to us to for anything. Will never eat here again and will advocate others, especially vegetarians to avoid this place at all cost. Ordered a large chicken dumpling noodle soup for take out for $8.53. What I got was a container of 2 1/2 cups of chicken broth and a small container with 2 dumplings, one spinach leaf, one slice of some other type of green vegetable and 2 strands of noodles! When I asked for some utensils for my takeout, the clerk said "we are out of them, I'll try to find something in the kitchen!!" When I asked if this was truly the large soup that I ordered, the clerk said "yes, that's the large soup- sorry". I can't believe this restaurant can stay in business serving food like this, not providing plastic utensils or napkins and having an employee that is apologetic about the food it is selling and not making an effort to correct the deficiencies. About 2 1/2 years ago I ate here with a group of co-workers during the week. We found the waitress pretty funny because she kept on saying we make everything fresh here. At this time they had real POMEGRANATE SANGRIA. It was off white and almost looked like a watered down blush wine. It was the best sangria I have ever had and have never found again! read more
