My family and I used to go to the old Jade Seafood Restaurant that was once in the same building. Big Ma's Kitchen has since remodeled the place to really modernize the restaurant. While keeping the same idea of family dine-in and a BBQ take-out restaurant, the building feels a smaller and is divided in multiple rooms. My family and I ordered five dishes: Roast Duck, Roast Pork, Green Bean Stir Fry with Steak, Spicy Salted Calamari, and Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables. Each dish was an average of $19 each. Rice was ordered and charged separately. The duck and both pork dishes were really tough to eat and overly salty. The skin on the roast pork was delicious and crispy. The calamari was a little bland with a sprinkle of seasoning similar to a tea shop's popcorn chicken. My favorite dish was the green bean stir fry. Green beans were crisp and beef was tender. The staff were attentive and all the dishes came out really quick. Service in general was very quick, which I can't complain. Overall, the food seems very over priced for what it is. We did see there was dim sum and I plan on trying that. read more

Dim sum starts at $3.88. Tables are packed in, so you'll be pretty close to your neighbor. There was an English speaking gentleman, he was very nice and helpful and took our order. I if it wasn't for him, service would be ok only. The others didn't smile and were not very attentive. Good place for an inexpensive very casual meal with close friends. The lunch specials come with complimentary soup and rice. We were never brought soup so I had to ask for it. The soup was comforting and flavorful, not too salty. The meat in it easily fell apart and was very tender. Tried the steamed tilapia with soy sauce ($13.99), soy sauce and imperial chicken duo -whole chicken ($23.99), roast duck- half ($18.88), live lobster sautéed with ginger and scallion ($20.99/lb)- they said the smallest was 1.5 lbs they had this day- it was listed as lobster and noodles but noodles didn't come, when inquired he said it would be separate and would be an extra $5, so we added on the noodles which I thought would have been part of the dish- so the lobster noodles came out to be $36.49. We finished off the meal with one dim sum item, the egg tarts- 3 for $3.88. We didn't get any veggies this time but there wasn't any space on the table to put it anyway. Overall it was a decent meal. The food was good, but the service was below average, we came here Monday at 11 and there were empty tables inside but nobody came greet us and let us in. We waited so long and finally got a number, then waited for a while again before we got seated. A total makeover from the last restaurant. Half sit-in and half takeout, similar to Sam Woo. The place is very small and just opened, seven regular tables and two private rooms. Decor is higher class so it's a comfortable environment. Food was pretty good! The garlic shrimp ($20.99) was my favorite, genuinely big shrimps with a tasty sauce. Came with 12 pieces and a hint of wasabi, so beware if you don't like that. The veggie soup with fish balls ($16.99) was nothing really special. Light in flavor but refreshing. I decided to take the family to eat dim sum for lunch after watching Big Ma's Kitchen on YouTube. Although there is plenty of parking here, it can be hard to find a spot. This place is really busy, with every table full. The wait time was manageable, though; we were seated in fifteen minutes. The jasmine hot tea smells wonderful, and the cup and plate settings are nice. I love this place. The food here is delicious, and we ordered a lot of dim sum in generous servings. Their food was good but it wasn't delivered to the table HOT. Came here with my dad for dim sum. They currently run a grand opening special that is $5.59 for all dim sum items. We've eaten a lot of dim sum in the SGV and this stacks up with what we consider the mid tier. It's good and on par with many others, but nothing stands out. Items have minimal meat/protein and more filler. For example, lotus wrap rice is a good size and wrapped well but has a lot of rice but lower ratio of meat filling. Same with hom sui gok. Delicious chewy outside, but light on filling. We only ordered dim sum so it's possible that their other non-dim sum items/dishes are better. Very expensive dimsum and tea seat price. Very small restaurant, with the bathroom right next to the kitchen and right in back of where the staff usually stand. Food quality is lacking, many dishes bland. The fish congee has a very fishy dirty flavor. The truffle sui mai has no truffle flavor, but when we told them, they did take it back (even the half bitten ones already on our plate). I would definitely not go here for dim sum, but the kitchen dishes that other tables got looked and smelled good. The setting plates and bowls were very nice and fancy. Just picked up a Too Good To Go order from here. First time coming in and the people working were very nice and friendly. My surprise bag came with a very generously portioned meal of steamed rice, THREE (I REPEAT, THREEEEE) meat mains, and 2 veg portions (broccoli and I think bitter melon in a sauce). I visited for dim sum on a saturday morning and im really impressed with the quality of the food. The chicken feet had great flavor, which is a dish i order in every single dim sum restaurant i visit and is usually a good indicator of the restaurants food quality. The steam rice roll was very very soft. The portion size is definitely above average, a lot of places offer low prices but they noticably give you smaller portions, not so here. The value proposition is top notch. The restaurant is also probably one of the cleanest for this type of restaurant, it has an A rating, which actually a lot of dim sum restaurants usually have B ratings. The bathroom, definitely is the cleanest ive ever seen for a dim sum restaurant. The owner is an industry veteran, not just friendly, but very down to earth and approachable. I entered from the front entrance and was greeted by eager waitresses who showed me to the back for takeout. One person who looked like a manager smdif not seem pleased to see me walking through. He said come through the back. So if doing takeout park in the lot behind the restaurant. The restaurant dining area is nicely decorated with table cloth and sectioned into two making it look quite cramp. There were entrees for takeout and lots of dim sum. To pay via credit card I had to buy over $30. I also got a small box of sweet and sour pork. So my two cents: pork ribs, beef tripe, Sui mai, beef rice wrap were just ok, nothing unusual. The beef balls are dry and so salty I would not recommend it. The entrees look appealing. My sweet and sour pork tasted good and tender. I visited Big Ma's Kitchen on Friday, 4/17 around 12:37 PM on the To-Go side and purchased four portions. I asked the middle-aged lady for soy sauce and red chili. She asked me to wait while she finished another transaction, but then helped another customer instead. I asked again, and although I spoke English, she made a face, handed me a small container of soy sauce, mumbled in another language, and turned away as if I was bothering her. I was on the way to pick up some dim sum from my local spot when I saw this store was happening a soft opening. I looked up the menu and saw they have BBQ pork buns (chat siu buns) and had to give them a shot. The baked BBQ pork buns was pretty good. The steamed BBQ buns were fluffy but I liked the baked ones better. I also bought egg tarts, siu mai, red bean sesame balls and taro cake. Overall a not bad experience. We got three dishes. Singapore style lobster, beef/green beans, and a sample trio of duck/cha sui pork, and crispy pork. All of us thought the lobster was amazing. In the first time, I aware the owner set a thin layer with his employees by letting his employees eat together while he was at the counter. A waitress told me he is the owner. Brand new interior with fancy tables and elegant turntables but the food portions are below average. Service is quick which is an anomaly in most Chinese restaurants. They leave these geometric gold water pitchers on the turntables for convenience, a nice touch. My husband thought the large pieces of beef in the chow fun was different and tastier than other places. However, the whole roast duck was cold and had very little meat, just skin. It arrived on a chafing plate, to make it warmer, perhaps. The walnut shrimp had large shrimps and a good portion of walnuts, but the portion was small. If you are looking for large, juicy, har gow, this the place to come! We drove past this place and saw the special dim sum pricing of $5.59 for their grand opening and decided to give it a try. All of the items could've been a little more well seasoned, but we were not disappointed in the quality and portions. This restaurant has beautiful marble tables, comfy seats and engineered wood flooring...definitely not your traditional table cloth covered tables with sticky carpet...oops, the larger tables are still with a big table top and covered with a table cloth. No carts pushing the dim sum items to your table. Order off the menu and they cheerfully bring it out, piping hot from the kitchen. They also have a to go side with dim sum, combo plates and your traditional roast duck. roast pork and char siu. All look delicious. Can't wait to bring some home to try Ambiance is what you expect of a Chinese restaurant.
