I'm such a sloppy drunk sometimes its disgusting. I knew I shouldn't be driving, so I pulled over like a good boy and called one of my friends and told them I was just joking and I really couldn't drive. Then I felt like I had to hurl. Then I did. Then I had to wash up. So I came inside to use the facilities and ask for some napkins, so I felt obliged to order something so I could have something else to throw up later. The guy behind the counter was soooo nice! He got me water and handed me napkins. He asked if I was okay. Awww if he was cute I'd have ordered a side of him! When I was paying, I just remember handing him some crumpled bills and looking confused. He was a sweetheart and worked it out and got my shit in order for me. So Kudos to you kind sir :) The burrito was disgusting. Even in my inebriated state I didn't want to eat it. I finished about a 1/3 of it and threw it away. The chips were oily. I saw some other drunk fellows and we all just looked down in shame. It is what it is. read more

the super breakfast is maybe the best deal in la that i know of. it's like fifteen bucks or so and you get 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of french toast, hash browns, toast, and jelly. i thought maybe it would all be terrible for the price but instead it was perfectly good diner food. the pancakes were delicious and even the hash browns were good and it's easy to make mediocre hash browns. an infinitely better brunch (or late night) experience than any bougie la brunch place where you drop 30 bucks for two slices of cereal battered french toast or whatever. big recommend. great stuff read more

They really try to please you. I ordered Pastrami Chili Cheese Fries. I requested crispy fries, grilled onions and the pastrami lightly heated on the grill. They did it perfectly. It's such a decadent mess of a meal. I ordered the small and almost ate half of it. They do not skimp on the portion size. read more

This place is like a wonderland for a drunkard. Opened 24 hours is just plain dangerous for anyone teetering around. Burritos, chili cheese fries, burgers, breakfast, tacos, pastrami sammies, fried chicken, fajitas, fried zucchini, just to name a few items that popped out at me whilst I was taking a gander at the menu. Pair your meal with a shake or horchata or fries or another burger. Seriously. This place should be called Drunk Food 101. or 911. read more

Great place for a bite. Big menu. Food is good. Staff is friendly. The restaurant is new & clean (post-fire). There's indoor and outdoor seating. Open late (maybe 24 hours), easy parking, and it's right off the 405. Big Tomy's checks all the right boxes. read more

Chilli fries.. yeah that's what everyone raved about. It was actually pretty good especially when you are drunk. But to be honest. It was greasy and the oil tasted old.. so it was really gross. I had only two bites and i threw the rest away. I think the fries were about 6 dollars. I think they open 24 7 read more

Went for breakfast, got the french toast. Big servings for the french test enough to get you filled and only for $7.30, I'd say that is a steal! The workers are nice and you can tell they are hard working. They greet you as you order and tell you what the order has very good. The atmosphere is beautiful and it is very clean. Options to choose from when it comes to sitting either outside, inside, booth, and stools. Would visit again to try their burgers next time. Also gave refills to my drink on my way out which was very nice. Worth the trip and money for sure! read more

I tried this little shop based upon the praise lauded on a travel channel show about Iconic LA burger shacks. I was in the vicinity on a biz trip, so OK I thought, let's work the list! The Apple Pan is about 3 blocks up the road, but closed on Mondays (surprised), so Big Tomy's was the closest on the list, and it's open 24/7. The location on the corner of Pico and Sawtelle is strategic and convenient. Ample FREE parking behind the shop on the Sawtelle side and accessible from both streets. This is unusual for the area. Inside is a little burger shack with both indoor and outdoor covered seating. The menu is basic burger and Mexican fare, but the claimed specialties are chili burgers and chili dogs. Supposedly, the chili is homemade. I got the chili burger and chili-cheese fries. The chili consistency is that of thick mud and looks like it - very dark, no beans. It's similar to another LA icon - Tommy's. The flavor of the chili burger was good, like a good roach coach burger and it too was wrapped in the obligatory yellow paper. Fresh produce on top, ample chili, I'd get it again. The chili-cheese fries were another story. The chili was sparse, but lots (tons) of shredded cheese that promptly melted on the extremely hot fries which then set and turned it into concrete. The fries did soak up the copious pool of oil emitted by the chili, changing color to red-orange. I basically wound up picking though the tangle to get to the chili, what little there was. Definitely a bust on that item. read more

I've found my go-to breakfast burrito on the westside, FINALLY. Growing up near Pasadena, my reference point for a great breakfast burrito is the famous Lucky boy burrito. The size of a small child, with a great ratio of potatoes, breakfast meat, eggs, and cheese, topped with an authentic zesty salsa that provides a fresh and acidic counterpoint to the richness of the burrito, the Lucky Boy burrito has been ingrained in my mind as what breakfast burritos should aspire to be, and up until this point I hadn't found it. A lot of this has to do with the trend of gentrification in food culture as a whole. See review on the Tacos Tu Madre breakfast burrito. Delicious, yes. Satisfying, not as much. While the Big Tomy's burrito doesn't quite match the Lucky Boy burrito, it's the best I've been able to find. Greasy and rich with generous amounts of potato, eggs, and sausage (my go-to), and a great salsa (make sure to ask for two things of salsa), it's satisfying enough for when I'm not around the Pasadena area. In the end, this burrito reminds me of a time when delicious food was not synonymous with instagram-able food, which is a trend I am wholly trying to resist. read more

Stopped by at Big Tomy's after leaving Best Buy and thought that the shack looked appealing and old for a burger. They have a deep menu of burger and Mexican food so it is nice to select from a lot of things. I just got a standard chili burger and fries because I heard that they do have good chili. It was okay. A good hardy cheep mean that probably had too many calories. Not too much to ride home about tho. It was good.. Would eat there again, but would not seek it out. read more

Old school cheap drunk food from way back when... and they're still here, decades later! It's (almost) underneath a freeway just for added atmosphere! Food is cheap burgers, not as cheap pastrami sandwiches, and a bunch of Mexican food. You go because it's greasy and cheap (at least for burgers), not because it's good. Remember to get your drink with no ice or less ice too, 'cause otherwise it's a mostly ice... just as you'd expect from this kind of place! read more

My boyfriend and I were super eager to try this place when we learned they were open again after a few years closing. We order a few items off the menu and fell in LOVE! the chili cheese pastrami fries alone are amazing! And we are kind of snobs about chili cheese fries lol! Not to mention their zucchini fries are so yummy you can eat them with or without ranch and still love them! You should definitely check this place out, plus the prices aren't bad at all! The owner has been on site the past 4 times we have gone and he is truly kind. Not to mention the consistency with their food! Been passing by here for years and on a whim I pulled in today for breakfast. Found free parking in back and For a Saturday it was jammed but they run a fast and pleasant operation. Grabbed a clean booth and they served a massive, piping hot Breakfast burrito with 3 meats and a cup of hot coffee in minutes. I noticed customers were regulars who seemed to know the staff and vice versa - really cool, feel good experience and I couldn't even finish that amazing burrito. We called in an order and the food was ready in 10 minutes. When we went to pick it up, the cashier was friendly and efficient. They had a good size parking lot. Here's what we ordered: Carne Asada Fries - big portion and tasty! Enough for 4 people if you eat it as a side. Regular charbroiled hamburger - I thought the bread was dry, but the rest of the ingredients were delicious. I love how big the tomato slices were. It was decent food, priced a bit higher than similar places. But the worst was that they charged for refills, that just showed how greedy they are, which brings to question how greedy are they with the quality of their food. I'll take my business to where I can get free refills. read more

9/30/19 They look to have started some work there a few weeks back when had i driven by . The building is now fenced in they took the big tomys sign off the roof and there was a work truck in the lot. Maybe they will reopen?

It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. One of the reasons I recommended Mirate is because it's known for being a highly rated modern Mexican restaurant with exceptional service and knowledgeable staff, especially when it comes to tequila and mezcal. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at all. Before ordering food, I asked our server about the differences between the mezcals and which flight they would recommend. The only explanation I received was, "It's just different families, so I'd go with the higher quality one." There was no real information or guidance, and it was obvious they didn't know much about the mezcal selection. I ended up choosing one based solely on what sounded best. We were then informed that the menu had recently changed and is now mostly tapas. That's perfectly fine, but I noticed several items from my previous visit were still available, so I figured I'd order a few favorites along with some new dishes. Most of the food was actually great. The ribeye tacos, tostada, and buñuelitos were all delicious. However, the carne asada was extremely disappointing. We only sent back one plate because I felt bad sending both, and that's when a manager (the gentleman with the man bun) came over. He explained that they have a new chef from Oaxaca, but what confused me was that they were serving Argentinian-style steaks as their carne asada. Instead of a traditional Mexican-style cut, it was thin, flat, and honestly looked like a breakfast steak. For a restaurant that prides itself on being a modern Mexican restaurant, serving Argentinian steak as carne asada just didn't make sense to me. To his credit, he removed both carne asada plates from our bill, which I genuinely appreciated. After that, he asked if there was anything else we'd like. I personally said no, but someone else at the table asked for one more ribeye taco. The manager replied, "You know what? I'll bring you one, and I'll bring them another too." Naturally, I assumed he was offering the extra taco as a goodwill gesture since I hadn't ordered anything else. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the bill and realized both tacos had been added to our tab. I wasn't going to argue over the price of a taco, but it was frustrating because I never asked for it. In fact, I ended up giving that taco away to my friends. If it wasn't complimentary, it shouldn't have been presented as if it were. Another thing worth mentioning is that while the carne asada portion has clearly gotten much smaller, the price remains exactly the same, which doesn't seem justified. Overall, my biggest disappointment is that there was no indication when making the reservation that this was essentially an experimental period with a new chef introducing major menu changes. Had I known beforehand, I never would have recommended Mirate for our dinner, and to be completely honest, I probably wouldn't have made a reservation at all. I only get two days off each month, so this was supposed to be something I could really enjoy. Instead, it honestly felt like a waste of my time and money. I'm sorry to say that while there were a few good moments, they faded very quickly. Unfortunately, the negative parts are what have stayed with me, and that's what I'll remember most about the experience. It's disappointing because I know how great Mirate can be since I experienced it just a few weeks ago. I truly hope they can regain the quality of food, service, and overall experience that made me recommend it in the first place . Another adventure led me to this spot after hearing great things, and since I was already in the area, I decided it was the perfect time to give it a try. From the start, the experience was off to a great beginning. Parking was limited but surprisingly convenient, which was especially appreciated since I was with someone who needed accessible parking. We were able to park right near the entrance and were warmly greeted as soon as we arrived. The menu may have been small, but it definitely packed a punch. I chose the avocado burger and added pastrami and bacon because I simply could not decide--and thankfully, they had no problem making it happen. My cousin ordered the pastrami chili fries, and they arrived hot, gooey, and full of flavor. The fries were cooked just right, and the portion size was generous enough to enjoy there and still have some left for later. As for my burger--wow. It was stacked so high I had to strategize how to take the first bite. Even trying to press it together was a challenge, but it was absolutely worth it. Every bite was packed with so much flavor that the bun almost faded into the background and all I noticed was the incredible combination of meats and toppings. It definitely caught attention too--someone sitting nearby even asked what I ordered because they were a regular and had never seen anything like it. That made the moment even more fun. Needless to say, I could not finish it all, but it did make the perfect take-home meal for my teenage son, who absolutely devoured it. I will definitely be back to try something different next time--especially since I missed out on ordering the zucchini sticks, which I am already regretting. If you visit, be sure to ask for the Italian dressing for dipping. I was a little unsure about the ranch at first, but it turned out to be unique and tasty in its own way. It used to be a sunday tradition to go here for breakfast with my dad, he always buckled whenever I wanted a chili cheeseburger for breakfast it was love at first taste lol. I still go there from time to time since we moved to the southbay its hard to keep up with that sunday tradition. The reason I take one star is now that Im older and paying for my own meals is inconvenient and hard to remember to bring ONLY CASH :( lol cash only makes it hard but if I remember its all worth it , another plus is that the staff is always so friendly. I grew up close to the area and now go to school at UCLA... so it's kind of funny how Big Tomy's went from being the place where I'd go for an after-a-long-day-of-third-grade snack (chilli-cheese fries duh!) to becoming my go-to spot to fulfill my after-a-long-drunken-crazy-night-of-dancing-MUST-EAT-SOMETHING-GREASY-NOW munchies. I like going to Big Tomy's for late night snacking. I would go here after partying with my cousins and their UCLA classmates and the food would definitely satisfy my munchies. I haven't tried that many items on their menu, but I've got to say that their zucchini fries and the chili cheese fries are the best. I've also had the fish filet burger which is pretty awesome. It comes with scrambled eggs, bacon, potato, cheese, and salsa, and breakfast is served all day. The woman taking my order was really sweet and even accommodated my request to make the burrito half bacon and half sausage. When she told me the total, I was honestly shocked. Seventeen dollars for a breakfast burrito is wild. That said, the burrito was hot, fresh, and really good, and the chips and salsa hit the spot. The price and size just did not feel equal. Would I like to come back for another burrito? Yes. Would the price make me second guess myself? Also yes. I used the bathroom and it was fine for a small restaurant. At the end of the day... good food and kind service, but the cost definitely made me pause.

If you don't know how to make them rare or even medium rare, say so, as you ruined my meal. So get it together and I will upgrade you or not. Now, the place is cute and clean. It is in a small strip mall and parking can be tiring, but something opens up pretty fast. I would say the customer service is good, but I can't, because I don't know it he told the cook to make it rare--we were so very clear. The chili fries are great. They will use cheddar cheese if you want and that is all I will eat on fries, American cheese is not cheese. The chili is great and you get a lot of it. My husband's burger was very good. He loves the avocado on it. We will try again, but they better make it the way I want or tell me they can't so I can be on my way. The prices are fair for what you get and they make the food to order.
