My fiancé absolutely loves this place, they have tons of sandwiches to choose from: hot, cold, clubs, breakfast...you name it they have it! One suggestion I have, eat the egg salad sandwich in the store...I got it on a bagel to go and it was pretty messy!!! It was quite wet and juicy...a little much! We ordered a turkey sub with havarti dill cheese, lettuce, and pickles and it was delicious - they even gave us potato chips and pickles to go!!! Big Top is so much fun! I love the circus themed menu. They also have gluten-free options and are willing to customize anything you order. It can be a little pricey depending on what you order, but a meal for 3 of us was below $30 to me that is a heck of a deal! The sandwiches are traditional and good, and if you want something more creative, they'll make it your way. Some people complain about the price. I think this is just what a quality sandwich costs nowadays, Big Top is no more expensive than any comparable place. And they do have budget choices. I can't say enough great things about Big Top! Their sandwiches are so delicious, and filling. My go to is almost always their Ruben.. yum!! But my boyfriend has gotten me into loving their Lion Tamer. All the sandwiches come with chips and a pickle or you can sub wedges for $1.50. It's always busy, but the turn over is fast so 90% of the time you can get a table but it probably won't be spotless. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious any time of day, and honestly, their whole menu looks great! I just can't get myself to part with my usual. The owner seems so nice, and there is a wall towards the back that shows all the great things he has done for the community! Definitely a great place to stop for lunch while shopping down on Maine street. read more

This is usually my go to spot for when I have company with kids or need a quick sandwich for a beach day. I love their impressive menu that takes up a good portion of one wall. I try to expand my horizons but the Turkey, cranberry, and stuffing sandwich usually wins my heart every time. The staff are great, they are fairly prompt, I like that it's an open kitchen so you can see them prep your meal, and the dill pickle on the side that even though I'm a hardcore bread and butter pickle girl, I enjoy. I have never been disappointed here and locals that I know that frequent this spot have never had anything negative to say. Great foods! Check it out!! read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever received at a food establishment. We were out of towners and we always try to go to local places when away. Looked up this place and thought wow it's packed and must be good. There was ppl standing outside waiting for their orders (covid) we got in line to order and when it go to be our turn we stepped up to order and then got shoo-d away... oh ok no problem. Thought that was kinda rude but the one guy working prob had to get caught up on getting other orders out. Again I think he could have said hey guys, I'm sorry give me a moment. Instead of just literally putting his hand up and being rude. But whatever to each their own. We proceeded to wait our turn. Then a lady seen us waiting and came up to us and asked, have you already ordered? My husband answered "No but we are trying to order" The business owner/waiter whatever you wanna call him then got very rude and in a condescending tone got smart with us. We immediately walked away. I would never spend any money at a place where the employees talk to customers like that. Never. Post covid in the restaurant/service industry, you'd think ppl would be kinder. Locally run Sandwich shop. Not sure I would call it a true deli in the sense of what I interpret to be a delicatessen that makes sandwiches. It's more of a sandwich shop that might sell cold cuts. Delis usually involves some sort of grocery store with imported goods usually European or Italian. This is American style with a lot of different sandwich selections. Nice to have it in town. Have eaten there at least on three Occasions and the sandwiches are solid. read more

This is my favorite place to go for lunch in Brunswick. The Big Top sandwich is my favorite. It has pastrami, coleslaw, thousand island, and Swiss cheese. If you're getting this sandwich, or a different sandwich with coleslaw on it, eat it there or do not travel too far with it (the coleslaw can make your sandwich soggy). The best part is for around $8 you get a 6" sandwich, chips, and a pickle. That is a deal that cannot be beat in my opinion. My coworker loves the veggie Rueben (and she is not vegetarian). I couldn't imagine Brunswick Maine without the Big Top Deli. Not only is the owner a friend of ours, but the employees are all super friendly too, which is a bonus considering how good the food is. Waited forever for one hotdog while the place cleared of everyone before me and several others after me. When I inquired I was met with snarky replies. Waited longer then asked fir my money back. Owner refused which breaks the cardinal rule in restaurants that customer is always right. I have worked in and owned a restaurant and this behavior is intolerable. Sadly this update is not good. Not only do I feel the flavor and quality of the sandwiches has declined but the service is what makes this review so bad. During Covid, businesses have to adjust how they do business and interact with their customers and I completely understand that. Which is why I ordered and supplied my phone number as requested. I waited until it was about time for the order to be ready (was told 25 mins and waited in car for the 25) before venturing out of the car to wait with others awaiting their text/order to be called. I waited 15 more mins and nothing. Another 10 mins, still waiting patiently as I did notice the signs asking for customers to wait for their text and not just line up in a line. However after another 10 mins (now over an hour total) and seeing a gentleman walk up to order and then receive his order prior to any text, I decided to get in line and ask about the wait. When it was my turn I mentioned i had been waiting for the text for over 40mins but no text. The gentleman working asked for the order name then turned to a table of bags and said "yep". I said "oh how long has it been there?" (Knowing I ordered an hour+ ago and it was a hot sandwich). To my surprise the answer back was a rude laugh followed by "yea things happen". I paid and turned to leave when the bag the sandwich was in completely ripped and the sandwich tumbled out. Luckily my catlike reflexes kicked in and i was able to save the food but stood there in the take out window grasping at the sandwich and looked at the worker who then said "Next!" and waived his hand for me to move from the window. Due to the customer service, decline in flavor and price of sandwiches, we have never been back and don't plan on ordering from Big Top again. read more

What can I say, it is like a slice of home on rye bread. Originally from Long Island, NY, I was confused by Maine's lack of delis, and lack of Boar's Head cold cuts. Big Top Deli alleviates this dearth with panache. Rivaling many New York delis, Big Top delivers on fast and efficient sandwiches and burgers. With large boards listing different sandwiches, cold and hot, there is something for all cravings that day. And they have Liverwurst!! You are always greeted with a smile, and the owner is quick with a joke. This place is spot on. Order a sandwich, get a pickle and chips in your brown paper bag. The egress sandwich is my favorite--somewhat of a Long Island specialty--thin pressed chicken breast, breaded and fried, with garlic butter on the roll, roasted red peppers and provolone. Excellent. Their reuben is to die for, and their Rachel is phenomenal. Love this place. Disappointed they are not doing pizza anymore, but thats ok, they're a sandwich shop, gives them more room to focus on perfection. They may be busy, but worth the wait. I have been on a serious breakfast sandwich kick lately. 'Look at this sandwich!' I have been telling my husband while flashing my iPad and showing him photos of sandwiches. He doesn't seem as enthused as I am....nonetheless, Big Top Deli is a front runner for me thus far in my bfast sandwich quest. I had bacon, egg, cheese on an everything bagel - it was simple and perfect. Toasted bagel, crispy bacon, cheese melted, and a perfectly cooked egg that was ever so slightly runny in the middle. Haven't had other meals of the day there yet but if they are as great at my egg sandwich, I will not hesitate to upgrade to 5 stars. Top notch! Sandwiches are always fabulous. My favorite is "The Gobbler" - Turkey, stuffing, gravy and cranberry on a toasty roll. You can totally have Thanksgiving year round! It's not a huge place and it is usually pretty busy but there is plenty of solace for strollers, high chairs, etc... which makes this a great stop for a quick lunch with my little guy. Big Top has probably the friendliest staff ever. They are all so nice and you can tell they truly enjoy their work. It is probably because it seems like owners are great people. We wanted cheap and simple. We pretty much got what we asked for. The husband had the Big Top which was pastrami, cole slaw, thousand island and swiss on toasted wheat (the bread choice is up to you) while I had the chicken salad sandwich on wheat and opted to have them put every veggie they had on it. Because I don't really go in for the tater chips that come with the meal (Utz), we ordered a side of fries which consisted of about two large potatoes cut into wedges and two cans of coke totaling about $20. The sandwiches- John liked his. That's the most he would say about it. I was happy that they weren't stingy with the veggies, although the tomato was light pink at most. However, the chicken salad was quite flavorless. Very bland. I had to keep adding pepper. Guess I'll have to be a little more adventurous next time. The fries weren't bad but they weren't good either. They lacked any kind of crispyness. I always love a cold can of coke on a hot day. I did enjoy the 80's megamix they had playing in the background with theme songs from movies like "The Neverending Story" and "Labyrinth." I could have done without all the kids crying, fighting, running into tables and walls and screaming, but I guess that's less the restaurant's fault and more the parents'. One of the best delis in Maine. One of the only delis in Maine for that matter! Great place to grab a sandwich in downtown Brunswick. Huge menu. They make a great Rueben. The Barnum, kind of a turkey Rueben with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut is my favorite sandwich there. Good selection of veggie options as well. Quality boar's head meats and cheeses and good drinks selection including Mexican Coke, the kind in a glass bottle. Gets real crowded at lunch sometimes but they're very fast getting your sandwich made. Have not tried their breakfast food but I've heard it's great. read more

They have an awesome selection of sandwiches for both meat eaters and vegetarians. My husband got the Reuben and it was delicious.
