The perfect hangover place or weekend lunch place. I go there 3-4 times a month. I always order the barnum (pumpernickel, swiss (I think), thousand island dressing, coleslaw and turkey.) Either that or the veggie melt. Comes with a bag of chips and a pickle. Always packed during the lunch hour on weekends...they recently opened up for dinner on certain nights. It's one of those places where you find your favourite sandwich, and it's just so hard to let go and try a new one. Favorites seem to be the Hoax, Goose, Trailblazer. We wanted to love this place especially since it was so crowded and had a ton of thank you notes hanging for their community involvement. I got the Gobbler and he got the meatball and we split them to try. The Gobbler had very little of anything on it and the meatballs tasted nuked with very little marinara to be found. So hungry this morning and desperately looking for somewhere to have breakfast. Not many offering for breakfast and even less on a Monday! Monday is the new Sunday in Maine. Lots of places don't open on Mondays. But I digress..had the steak and egg breakfast sandwich with a cup of hot tea. The cup wasn't warmed so sadly the tea cooled very quickly. However this is not a coffee shop. Now the sandwich (mmmhmm), light soft delicate warmed bun with a slightly crisp exterior which perfectly complimented the cheesey steak and cooked just right egg filling. I could eat 3 more easily. which is the sad part as it was delicious and although I'm not starving anymore, I am still hungry. T'would be good if there was some small side to bulk it up a bit. A bit of fruit or small salad. I would pay more and leave happily satiated. That said I'll be back. read more

My favorite food in the Topsham/Brunswick area. Everything I've had has been excellent, and the service is always decent enough. I hate the seating here, so I usually get it to go. Not to mention, the place is pretty grimy. Maybe it adds to the NY authenticity. If the tables aren't covered in someone else's food, they're gross and sticky with the half-assed cleaning attempt. The other problem is parking, but that's what you get on Main St. Usually just means a long walk, but apparently it's worth it, because I keep going back just about every few days. read more

I'm a Californian visiting family in Maine for the week and I heard about Big Top from one of the locals. She told me how good this place is and I definitely agree. My family and I ordered the Big Top, the Gobbler, and the Classic Italian and they were all delicious! We got the 7" and they all came with chips and pickles. My boyfriend and I frequent here for lunch on Fridays and it's always busy. They have great sandwiches. I usually get something vegetarian, (like the veggie rueben or the avocadowich) and they're fantastic. My boyfriend likes to get the meaty sandwiches and they have a great french dip sandwich or chicken sandwiches. Basically, you can't go wrong with anything you get here. Some of the sandwiches are really good (check out the Gobbler), but then there are plenty that just need something more. The sandwiches here are deLIcious!! I got a veggie one and I thought it was one of the better veggie sandwiches I'd had a long time. A great blend of veggies and lite dressing (it was a cucumber dressing if that helps identify the sandwich). The pickle was awesome as well. Would definitely recommend this place. I visited here with coworkers this week and it was a great experience. I had a BLT which came with a pickle (great pickle!) and chips. The ambiance is great with circus memorabilia on the walls and there's a line out the door at lunch. Coworkers had a chef salad, egg sandwich, and tuna melt. The chef salad was huge, and the tuna melt came on English muffins which was perfect. My BLT was classic and well done. Big city style deli in a small town. Ate here after years of hearing good things. Had a delicious chicken sandwich on a toasted french roll. Everything was wonderfully fresh and very satisfying. I would rave more on how good the food was but it was after all just a chicken sandwich. It was like you ought to be able to expect but really cannot since so few delis seem to care. Sandwiches were very good, but every table was dirty and sticky! There were employees straightening magazines at the doorway stand and chatting at the counter but nobody was WASHING down the tables. That is pretty gross. Clean eating areas should be a priority. And the sodas in the cooler were warm. read more

I am definitely a fan of Big Top. Through four years at Bowdoin, especially on Saturdays and Sundays when the Pub was closed until dinner, Big Top was my brunch-time staple. Even trips to Maine where good old Bwick wasn't the destination, it was often a detour just so I could get a Goose. Yummy! I recommend any of the sandwiches with avocado (Tom Thumb on a bagel, avocadowich, Goose) or just add avocado to any sandwich since its only a dollar extra--bargain !! Breakfast sandwiches are cheap too (although that was pre-recession so who knows what it costs now). The guys who work there are always super nice, even when its busy, and after not too long knew me and my order-- there's nothing like friendly, personalized service! For 16+ years, the Big Top Deli has been my go to place in Brunswick for lunch sandwiches. It's simply ALL good. Favorites are the RINGMASTER, and the CHEDDAR MELT on sour dough, along with the GOOSE in a spinach wrap. BUT, don't think that I just do these sandwiches....I am frequently changing it up depending on my mood. BONUS: I have become a regular for breakfast as well. OUTSTANDING breakfast sandwiches: my fave is the ROCKIES, while my wife loves the TOM THUMB on wheat. The crew also makes the BEST FRIED EGG in town. A good place run by good people. I got the Egress (breaded chicken breast, provolone cheese, bacon, roasted red peppers on garlic bread). Besides the sandwich not coming on garlic bread but rather just plain French bread, the sandwich was great. Surprisingly filling for just a 7" sub. Downside is that they serve plain Utz potato chips with their sandwiches instead of making their own chips. Also ordering a side of fries is ill-advised. Their fries are thick steak fries, which maybe is just not my preference, and the amount is minimal. However all the meats and cheeses are Boar's Head and fresh sliced. So I just got back home with the bacon burger and french fries from the Big Top that I picked up at 4 pm after a busy day of no food. Where to start - there was NO bacon on my bacon burger, but what the heck, the FOUR people working behind the counter seemed really busy with me and the one other customer that came in during the 15 minutes I waited for my burger. And I got to substitute "french fries" for chips for an extra buck and a half, and got these soggy, HUGE, 1-inch wide potato WEDGES.... Hey Big Top - those are NOT french fries!!! But if you're going to serve them, at least cook them all the way. Wow, a burger and fries for NINE DOLLARS!!! What a great deal!!! Now I have to go get some FOOD to eat.... read more
