Billy Tses comes as close to gourmet food as any friendly neighborhood chinese restaurant possibly could. While the menu is extensive and varied my recommendation is for 3 dishes: 1) Singapore Rocket Soup: It is hot+tasty+chinese.dot.soup that will provide spiritual and/or intellectual insight to your taste buds. 2) Spicy String beans: I simply don't know any other place where you can get those soft, comfrotable, not a bit saggy ... beans. Yumm. 3) Crab Rangoon: I don't know where they catch those crabs, or whether they are any crabs are actually involved - but they sure make those wonton wrappers crunchy, the filling is tasty and the dish overall is very well executed. And so it goes, there is hardly a miss on the menu, the place is an institution, waiters are friendly, the owner(s) stops by the table often, it is as good as it gets. Try not to visit on weekend nights as the place is very popular and there could be issues finding parking. Great place to eat, finally after driving by this place a million times I finally come to eat here. We came in and they say is right away so we made it before it got busy. Normally when ever you drive by its jammed packed. They sell scorpion bowls from single and 3 people bowls. Single is just in a cup and very strong just like a regular bowl. I come from the west coast where we really don't have any good Chinese food. So by that standard I liked the food. I ordered the tofu with bok choy in garlic sauce and loved it. I was in heaven because they used silken tofu, not firm. Win!! The roast pork fried rice was very flavorful. Salty and colorful with bits of boneless BBQ rib (in hot pink) and egg (in bright yellow). They also mixed in onions which were cooked just right and bean sprouts. Win!! Not so win were the half duck, Thai style. It just didn't have a lot of flavor and was overcooked. Duck is a delicate meat and needs to be prepared with care. For me, this one fell short. The pupu platter with assorted fried nibbles was also pretty good. The crab Rangoon was satisfying (tho not healthful). The egg roll was very very dry on the inside. If I went back I'd definitely get the tofu and bok choy dish again. I say...why not? Try it. Stopped in on a Yelp recommendation. Middle of the week, dinner. Wasn't too crowded, we were seated immediately. The staff was straight business, no small talk. Parents: no kids' menu. Luckily my kids like lo mein. Not sure if there is anything other than water to drink here. The waiter didn't offer any and there wasn't anything about it on the menu. And this is the only Chinese place I've been to that doesn't give you rice with your meal. The portions were huge! You'll definitely have food for lunch or dinner the next day. If anyone remembers Weylu's Chinese restaurants in the Boston area, you may recall the manager of the Salem location, Billy Tse. When the Salem location closed down years ago, Billy opened his own place in Revere. I'm not sure if he still runs the place, but the food is excellent here. They do it right. From apps to chef specialty dishes, it's all good. They also do Thai and Vietnamese dishes. Parking may be difficult in the small lot but you can find parking on the side streets near by. If you feel like staying in the city, they also have a larger location on Commercial Street on the wharf side of the North End of Boston. read more

If I could post zero stars I would! We have tried over and over again to get good food from here, with poor results! When I was young and lived far from here,my parents made the trek especially for the coconut shrimp, and the place was always packed. Now the shrimp is dirty with uncleaned veins (I took pics it was so groce) and the crab Rangoon (or anything fried( is dark brown due to old grease in the fryer! The pork in the fried rice had the worst texture, and the egg roll tasted of chemical. Customer service is non existing since they talked over us while we explained what was wrong. The food is sometimes quality and they are able to prepare the food without MSG. However, the service is not always consistent. I have never dined in but the delivery services varies from time to time. The best time to order delivery is during the week because the weekeds are far too busy for them and they can overcook the food and its not always up to satisfaction. They went from just OK to worse. I ordered vegetable chow mein in my last order and actually got vegetables...carrots, mushrooms, what you should. Tonight I ordered the same and got bean sprouts and shredded celery, that's all. The boneless spareribs were also much more fattier than the last order. And top it off, they are so rude, whether we go in person or call on the phone. They clearly don't feel like they need new or want to keep any customers. Good for them. For us, horrible customer service, food that was okay and went downhill fast doesn't justify our hard-earned pay. This place is a Revere instittution. They have the monopoly on pan-asian cuisine on this side of the harbor. There's no messing with Billy Tse. I never quite understood the appeal. I ate in a couple times, and both times the service was horrid, the dining room was filled with very loud Reverians and cops, and the food was nothing to write home about either. So I hadn't been there in quite awhile until last week when the smell of General Tse's chicken wafted the half mile to my house and we had to have some. So we called up and ordered take-out. 10 minutes later and a short walk up the street, we had a buffet of delicious food. Spring rolls, General Tse chicken, dumplings, beef chow foon, eggplant with mushrooms... All was hot and yummy. Went to Billy's AGAIN on Sat night and enjoyed it beyond compare. The food is always wonderful and consistant. The twin lobster special was awesome and the Spicy String Beans, Honey Ribs and the House Rice are all better than that big Chinese chain (with the initials). The waiter (Johnny "chicken wings" ) is always great and provides a very entertaining dining experience.
