My first time here was for a luncheon event. The hostess lives in the area and selected this restaurant. The parking lot was just starting to get busy when I arrived around 10am. I noticed a sign that said that you will be seated once your entire party has arrived. We didn't wait too long before our group of 19 arrived and were seated. The decor has a vintage feel with beautiful chandeliers/lighting and dark, but warm color wood throughout the restaurant. Even the ceiling is detailed. My 2nd visit was with my husband. He decided to eat here after I had brought home a coconut crème pie for him from my first visit. During my first visit I enjoyed a wonderful chicken pot pie. Even though it was a warm day outside, seeing it on the menu caught my stomachs attention. It was a good size, I wasn't able to finish it. The crust was baked to perfection. The filling was perfect just the right balance of meat to veggies, with the perfect creaminess. During my second visit I enjoyed one of the breakfast favorites on the menu which it is mentioned only served until 3pm. I had ordered the Belgium Waffle with Gold 'N' Spice Chicken Tenders. I added a side order of scrambled eggs to my order. Everything was fabulous! I devoured everything. Sadly we didn't have room for dessert! The servers are friendly and fast, and always making sure our drinks were replenished. Unfortunately, we live quite far from the restaurant. But, if ever in the area I would love to return and try something new on the menu and make sure I save room for dessert! read more

After reading the reviews, we decided to stop here for lunch when we arrived in Palm Springs for a 3-day visit. First off, this place is HUGE! There's so much unused space that I'm sure they could fit three restaurants inside. The first thing you notice as you walk in is the large koi pond full of fish and turtles. We were mesmerized. The next thing you figure out is this is definitely an old school spot. All the servers and hosts are older women who have probably worked there for years. Already, it was my kind of place. My sister ordered corned beef hash and eggs, and the size was massive. It was so much food that she took it to go and we shared it for breakfast the next day. I ordered the tuna melt. I'm pretty picky about my melts, but the server spoke highly about it, so I was convinced. It was albacore white meat tuna with very little added besides the mayo, and it was perfectly grilled on rye bread, their recommendation. It came with several side options, but I went for the cole slaw. Suffice it to say it was delicious. We liked the place so much, we decided since it was on our way out of town, we'd stop in again for breakfast. Again, we were not disappointed. I had the short stack of pancakes which were perfectly done and fluffy. Sister had the pecan waffle, which came with dollops of whipped cream and loads of pecans. Another total hit for both of us. This time our server had a great sense of humor as well. On this occasion we were there to catch up with longtime friends and colleagues and were permitted to remain long after our meals were finished. Ambience: welcoming , comfortable, classic traditional American decor; minimal unobtrusive noise so it's no problem holding conversations. Tables and seats are clean, no water spots on the tableware. It's tough to write this review because I love Billy Reed's. This has been a childhood place for me and I love the interior how it is old timey it is and you feel like you were at your grandma's house lol. I love the entrance as well with the Koi fish pond as you can see all the different fish and turtles they have in there. It is a great touch. Unfortunately maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but we were disappointed with our food. The eggs and bacon were extremely greasy as you can tell they were covered in butter to the point they were wet. I would like to go back here to try it again, but unfortunately, maybe their menu is a little bit outdated now I think it is a place you just have to try coming to Palm Springs, but unfortunately was not wowed by the food. Billy Reeds is a quirky quaint tribute to the Fern bars and Baroque palace of the 70s and 80s. There's lots of stained glass carpet, wood floors, and big booths to sit in and enjoy your meal. The same elegance and abundance are featured on the menu and we went for dinner. The other night were shown right in by a very friendly waiter. I ordered my traditional Sauvignon Blanc and my husband got a ginger ale. Then we decided to get the country fried steak for him and the curried chicken salad for me. I also got a cornbread loaf and he opted for a date nut loaf. My husband also got navy bean soup before his meal and it tasted absolutely homemade. He enjoyed the. Steak and creamy potatoes with gravy I found that the curry chicken salad was light and yet filling. When the meal was over, we still had broom for dessert and the seasonal attraction of pumpkin pie couldn't be resisted. Billy Reed's is known for its pies, and this was no exception the pumpkin was luscious and soft and poop in the mood for Thanksgiving dinner. From the outside you wouldn't think much of this place, but as you drive in it captures your attention with it's captivating decorations, from an outdoor fish pond, to classic machines and fun decorations on the inside. I didn't eat here and instead opted to order to-go as I had some work to catch up. I called in the order and was bummed they couldn't cook the rib eye medium rare, so I opted for the Prime Rib. For $44, you can't beat it. You get the full fixings, soup, corn bread, choice of potato and a huge piece of meat that was tender (even a plastic knife was able to cut through it. The flavor is more on the mild side and wish the au jus had more seasoning, but the horseradish was perfect. The added lemon meringue pie had the right amount of zing to it with the bits of lemon skin added a pleasant texture. Staff here was great, and they packed the food with care (the lemon pie, they didn't close the lid and smash the pie, but wrapped it with the lid semi-open. I can't believe this was the first time I've been here for a meal. Mind you, Palm Springs is hop skip away for me. I've known of the place and heard so many good things about it. There's a bar right behind the hostess counter. Pretty big and I believe it's a full bar. The place is very on point with their antique. Vintage furniture, beautiful chandeliers light fixtures and artwork. French meets medieval in a sense. Crowds a little to the mature side. We stopped in for breakfast which menu wise was a good selection of meals. Denise took care of us and she was a doll. Very friendly and accommodating. Food wise, I started off with a banana nut bread which was a mini loaf. That came out warm and served with butter. Quite nice and tasty. Our meal, a build your own omelette which came with a sides. That was had with fruits. And the shrimp omelette with hollandaise sauce. That was excellent and pretty nice portion of shrimp. Had that with the house potatoes mixed with bell peppers and onions. Also came with a side of toast. Salsa was part of the meal which two different kind was brought out. Spicy version was spicy in our opinion but good. Food was excellent and big portions. Also, the whole menu looked amazing for both lunch and dinner. Overall, service was great, food was excellent, ambiance was perfect. There was a little glitch with wifi when we were there but didn't affect us. So now, it's a must to be back for another meal. read more

Wow! Cant believe I've never been here before. Walking in, this place will take you back in time. Such a unique looking restaurant with so many things that catch your eye. They don't make them like this anymore! Super extensive menu. We came in for dinner, but looks like you can order breakfast and lunch at anytime here, which is pretty awesome. For dinner, i had the prime rib meal ($44). Prime rib was tender and didn't have as much fat as other places that I've ordered prime rib. This meal came with split pea soup, garlic bread, mashed potatoes and zucchini. Their homemade horseradish sauce was really good! Everything i ate here was really good! My mom had a chicken piccata dish. She really enjoyed the tender chicken with this meal. Our server was really friendly. Everything came out in a timely manner. Very old school furnishings and has a full bar. I didn't partake in the bar but did dive in right into the heavy comfort food menu. I had an open-faced roast beef sandwich on GARLIC BREAD. Yes you heard that right...garlic bread. OMG. With mashed potatoes with beef gravy. And hot chocolate where they bring you a coffee cup full of whipped cream and then a warm hot cholate in a little silver tea pot where you just top off you whipped cream with chocolately decadent goodness. Was there recently. Had the French Dip sandwich. The Roast Beef was so overdone, it was shoe leather. Dark, brown, dry with absolutely no taste of being juicy at all. On top of that, they placed the meat on the roll all in the middle, so that when it was cut in half and arranged on the plate, it looked like there was a lot of meat. However, when I took the top of the bread off, one could see that all the meat was placed on the middle of the bread, and there was just "bread" left on the ends. (See pictures) Granted I'm aware the business has been recently sold. If it going to remain a restaurant, I would suggest they, at least, offer a version of their French Dip, with COLD MEDIUM-RARE (juicy!) Roast Beef. (I'm able to ask for it this way at SHERMAN's along with the dip. Very disappointed with the sandwich I had a Billy Reed's last night. BTW, I'm a year-round resident of Palm Springs, and I used to go to Billy Reed's quite often, however the quality has really gone downhill over the past few years. And they dropped the Baked Stuffed Shrimp dinner from the menu. Yet another disappointment. read more

I'll start by saying that the ambiance and service are as advertised- comfortable, classy, attentive, just all together very comfortable! My husband and I ate dinner around 5pm and we were definitely the youngest ones there (hey, we were on east coast time!). The shrimp cocktail was delicious- lots of celery in the sauce. We also each got a generously sized house salad with house "red" Italian dressing which was very nice. My husband loved his meatloaf and mashed potatoes- no notes! I was looking for something lighter with protein and fiber so I opted for chili. The bowl was very large but the chili was just ok- probably wouldn't pick this one again (not much tomato action, which I like in a chili, and the cheese was not cheddar). Everything came with bread, so I got cornbread and my husband opted for garlic bread. All this to say, even if you opt for something seemingly lighter like a bowl of soup you can still get really full! We were curious enough to try the deserts- the Boston cream pie was tasty and the egg pudding was interesting (tasted like eggnog). Definitely a cool and comfortable experience, even though the food isn't the stuff dreams are made of (at least for me). read more

Kathy was my waitress and she was prompt to acknowledge me in her section. She asked if I was ready or needed more time? After my order she brought me coffee and kept making sure my cup was full. Not knowing the difference of the waffles I chose the Belgium waffle, Kathy said he was thicker. Yummy I ate that first when my food arrived. The question is: How long will the community be able to pay their menu prices to keep the doors open? We understand the profit margins for a restaurant are very slim. The operational expenses of a restaurant this size must be staggering. At a recent visit, we were astounded by the pricing. $33 for a plate of meatloaf. MEATLOAF!! (I calculated how many people I can feed meatloaf at home to for the single serving cost of $33. We did a deep dive on the entire menu pricing. Dinning at Billy Reed's has been a favorite treat for decades. The warm and friendly staff has always made the experience more special. Regrettably, as year round Palm Springs it's doubtful we will afford to keep Billy Reed's on our list of regular dining options. It makes us sad. read more

It's beautiful inside! I had never been here before, but had looked up the menu and some photos prior. We went for breakfast on my birthday before heading up to the tram. I get omelettes often when eating out, but their omelettes are sublime. They are fluffy and light, I asked for hollandaise on top. The staff's attentiveness is great, the coffee cup was never empty. We enjoy it so much, we went back for lunch today. We split a grilled sandwich, and again, everything was absolutely delicious. Au jus came with it for dipping, and just that one thing, which is homemade, in house, like everything, is superb. The bar itself is a beautiful carved, massive structure, and there are many interesting things to see. You can also ask for fish food for the Koi pond outside the entrance. This will be a regular stop for me and people coming in town to visit. I'm so glad there are still places like this that exist, and flourish.
