Damn that was one of the least flavorful iced americanos I've ever had. The color wasn't that deep brewed look I prefer and putting a dab of cream in lightened it up way fast. The gal working was nice and I was able to grab the one stool to catch up for a few minutes, but one and done.

This seems like a cozy and solid coffee shop in the city that mostly locals go to. I was recommended this coffee shop and glad I gave it a try. I ordered their chai latte and it was absolutely delicious. Perfect for a cold fall morning. There was a small line and it moves a bit slow. The inside is really small and can get crowded quickly. The cashier here was very friendly and I love that there's no up charge for oat milk. Def would return here!

Great spot to grab coffee in the city! The cold brew was delicious, especially by my standards, and the chai latte was incredible! It tasted almost like a horchata. It's very small inside, so best to grab and go.

I got the Birch Spiced Latte, which I quite enjoyed. I'm usually a fan of spiced lattes, so I appreciated this specialty. I would say that the latte was solid, but it didn't knock my socks off. I would come again though!

Birch Coffee has some really solid coffee at reasonable prices in the area. The staff who works there are also really nice which is always a plus. I got a hot matcha drink and it was pretty good, I like that it was unsweetened so that you could actually taste the matcha flavor. All in all, it's a solid coffee place.

It's impossible to avoid in the winter -- The string lights, tinsel, and rustic hip appeal is perfect for evoking a comforting winter ambiance. Despite the compactness of Birch coffee, the quality of its coffee extends beyond its walls, drawing in people from all over for a delicious sip. The Baristas are always really friendly and seem to love working there. With only two sizes, it's worth getting a large latte at ~7 dollars which is the price of some grande drinks at Starbucks. Given one espresso equals 2 shots and the smoothe creaminess of the overall latte, the price is worth it. Birch satisfies my coffee cravings all day too! I'm truly impressed by Birch, and it has earned its place as 5 star coffee shop among the UES community of coffee lovers. Recommendation: Seasonal Spiced Iced Latte

I walk by this place all the time and finally decided to stop by and get a coffee! I got a hot caramel latte ($6.80). I wanted something sweet and this was recommended to me by the barista. It was a flavorful latte that was not too sweet! The cup is also super cute! I would only get a coffee here as a treat for myself once in awhile.

Complimentary serving of a giant fly if you order a quick bite. Birch is one of my favorite coffee places in the city. By far better than Starbucks and Dunkins hence I literally go looking for Birch wherever I am. It comes close to Gregory's and La Colombe. I was passing by 63rd and lex and decided to get a coffee and muffin. To my horror I saw a giant fly resting comfortably on a croissant. I doubt the staff had any awareness or not sure if they didn't care. Lost my appetite....it's just sad when good places take hygiene lightly. Makes you question if you should trust this place anymore.

Great spot! Nice tiny shop, friendly people, tasty coffee. Everyone was very polite and it's pleasant to see, cause a lot of cool place now 'overhip' themselves, I didn't feel it here. My suggestion is a hemp milk latte. The foam was smooth and nice, yum! Also, I absolutely loved this window sittings:) I would come back here when I'll be on the Upper East. read more

Small and cozy place. To go is your best bet. Try their Costa Rican drip. Very reasonable too. A medium drip was $3. There's only 6 bar stools so you will mostly find this place busy. Plan take out. read more

The coffee is excellent. The service is not. I'm in from LA checking out all the Top coffee shops. Hi-Collar was the best coffee and service. Birch doesn't do pour overs till after 11, when I returned the barista was rude, and angry that I was ordering a pour over, then it was as if a pour over was a new and difficult process for them. Some retraining may be required at the 62nd street location. read more

Love this coffee shop. Always go to the Lex & 62nd or the Spruce street locations where there is always a warm welcome when entering. There latte is amazing especially when you orders it with Oat milk :) wish they had vegan pastry options. read more

I needed my caffeine high and I'm happy that I stumble onto this coffee shop. Birch is a small coffee shop with limited amount of seating. They only have a couple of bar stools. They aren't equipped to have people studying or chitchatting to catch up. There also do not have wifi. It's basically a to-go coffee stop with coffee and limited amount of pastries. Great place to get your coffee fix. read more

I dig you, Birch coffee! You cool me down with your smooth iced coffee and the fact you offer Oat milk makes the coffee experience that much better! Yes, I said Oat milk! If you haven't tried it, folks, make sure you give it a go! There's no turning back after your first oat milk coffee experience! This is a very small shop with a handful of stool window seats but the service is quick and on point. They offer a wide variety of coffees and teas here with a nice selection of pastries to accompany your cup of joe; all great choices! I wish there was a location closer to my office so I could go daily but for now, trekking it here will have to do! read more

This is one of my all time favourite coffee places in the city. I thoroughly enjoy going here because the staff is always very cheerful and friendly and they make the best coffee I've had in New York! They also have the option of oat milk, which still isn't available in a lot of other places! They have multiple locations however I've only been to their upper east location and love it! read more

My review is based almost entirely on the cashier, I know, a bit unfair. But if your customer service stinks, I will write about it. The cashier was nice but she could not open her eyes. I mean I know, Mondays. Gah. Who likes Mondays? But really? You're coming to work half asleep? Then, this was my actual conversation with the cashier today. Me: Hi. Can I have a cappuccino with almond milk? Cashier: We don't have almond but we have hemp seed or soy. Me: Oh ok. Do you usually have almond milk but just not today? Cashier: No. We've never had almond milk. I mean it tastes like chemicals when it's steamed. *Disgusted face, then turns to Barista.* Barista: Eh yeah, it tastes like chemicals. Me: Uhhhh ok. I've been drinking coffee with steamed almond milk for years and never thought that. Cashier: Ehh yeah, no it tastes like chemicals. It tastes like chemicals. Me: Uh ok. Um, yeah. Outstanding iced oat milk latte. Oat milk is the only non-dairy milk that mirrors the flavor and thickness of actual cream (but better), and can stand up to the strong, flavorful, fresh espresso (or coffee, anything). They use Oatly here. Regardless of your milk preferences, consider giving this a try. read more

Loved this small, but perfect, hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. Service was excellent, but I can not speak highly enough of their lattes with hemp milk. It was so good that we ordered a large, left and went to breakfast, and then walked back for another round. Latte with hemp milk, for the win. Thanks Birch. Totes adorbz, as the kids were saying a few months ago. Haha. Small location, and I do mean SMALL, best for picking up your goodies and heading to work. Still, there are a few cozy seats by the front window, as well as a few exterior seats on some of the more mild mornings and days. The service is quick and friendly; I like how once they get your name, they continue to address you as such. I always love a nice personal touch; it definitely makes grabbing your morning goodies a little bit better. Good chai at this location, too. It always borders more on milky than overly sweet, which I prefer. read more

My only regret with Birch Coffee is that I didn't find it sooner. Came here every morning for the last few weeks I was at my job in midtown. It was SO MUCH BETTER than Starbucks or the Peet's I had been going to for months. It was a few blocks from work but worth the walk for the excellent cold brew & cute drink sleeves that say "Birch loves you" (I love you too Birch) There can be long lines in the mornings and the employees take their time which can be a bit frustrating, particularly because the space is impossibly small but what can you do? It's either deal with that or drink subpar coffee. I'll choose great coffee any day. read more

Tiny place with solid coffee. I got my Americano iced to go. I wish it were a little less watered down, but there is a lack of coffee shops on the UES so can't really complain! I still love La Colombe in SoHo for the best coffee in town. They also have doughnuts and pastries if you're so inclined. I will note that the tip jar is creative; there are two answers for the daily question and you throw your tip in the answer you think is correct. Yesterday's question was "What does the female praying mantis do after mating?" Ha. Like we all don't know the answer to THAT question ;) read more

Being stuck on jury duty means I've has ample time to visit every coffee shop in the neighborhood, and I think Birch takes the gold. The shop is a little hidden (the entrance is actually around the building from where the map shows it pinned), but worth looking for. Small but comfortable and clean, there is plenty of room for you to park somewhere and get some work done or relax and enjoy your coffee... which it turns out is OUTSTANDING at Birch. read more

their scones and chai lattes are so good i order a chai latte at every coffee place i go to and this is my favorite place to get it tbh. its a bit small with only 4 seats- so it's not a place i would recommend if youre trying to study and get work done but if you need a quick to-go drink in the area i def recommend this spot read more

Good coffee. Cozy place. Way cheaper than Starbucks. The only downside is that there are only 7 chairs so if you are looking for a place to sit down and drink coffee during busy hours this is not the right place. It's more of a place to stop by, get coffee and keep going with your day read more

In a world filled with Starbucks, Birch is a nice change of pace. It's a TINY coffee shop that makes a great cold brew. Beware there are only 3 seats inside, so don't expect to sit down. Also, a jug of cold brew (to take home) is $25. REALLY? Make sure to get a punch card which gives you 1 free drink after you purchase 10. Overall, I would stop into this place occasionally, but if you're looking for more food options/more seating try Juan Valdez Cafe on 57th. read more

The service is good. The latte art is cute and its better when you decide to stay. They have a few options for pour-overs too, which is highly appreciated. I am glad it opened, although it opened in a neighborhood where most residents think that Starbucks has good coffee. Smh. They only have three seats, so scoring one is honestly a mini victory. haha A cortado tastes better when you sit down to enjoy it. I was finally able to take a look at their book exchange shelf, which is mostly filled with rejects, but there was a HP Deathly Hallows and that made me happy :) Good concept, fast and professional service. It's usually a hit or miss for me when I try a new place's latte and this one was really good. Tried their flat white which was alright, compared to the other third wave coffee shops around. Service was very friendly albeit the space was quite cramped, with only three seats. They also serve a selection of pastries such as croissants; and also fresh juices from liquireria. read more

Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.

Can someone please tell the lazy employees at this location to keep the store open until they're actually supposed to close? I'm standing outside at 6:20 and they are closed (it says on their door, on their website and on google page that they close at 7pm) This is absolutely preposterous. My "go to" coffee spot! They know their customers by name and have my order ready as soon as I walk in the door. You don't get that kind of service anywhere anymore! The people who work there are very pleasant and friendly. Service with a smile. The coffee is always fresh and hot.
