Our server Eric was knowledgeable about the menu and took care of our little special requests. Kevin, the Operations Manager, came over to wish us a Happy Anniversary and was very nice. I ordered the special cauliflower puree soup and my husband had the lobster bisque - both superb! We enjoyed the halibut for our main course and tried two delicious desserts. Very elegant place and the menu I find was pretty small and not too appealing to me. I went for brunch though. The service was a little slow and the tables are extremely small for a party of four because they have so many plates and utensils they trade out during your service. Me and my husband just passed by and heading to our car after shopping. But a special amazing food smell stopped both of us at the same time. We start to trace where this great seafood smell come from, and then we came in Bistro 31! We thought that smell is octopus，so we definitely ordered. It turned out to be unbelievable:it is sooo good! Soft, a little tender and very flavorful! Basically it is the best cooked octopus I have ever had in Dallas! I book marked this restaurant and the octopus will became my mist-try from next time. We also ordered their Benedict eggs, which is very good too. It also served with some finger potato so makes this dish a good portion. It is a nice choice for a relaxing brunch. First, if you have never been to this before you might be tricked with the entrance. This place consists of two areas not linked together. The one immediately facing the parking area is their enclosed dining place. However if you are going to the patio/bar/sushi area, you will have to use outdoor stairs few feet from the restaurant. Seems like a common mistake and the restaurent front person will walk you to it if you cant find it. I went to the second floor patio. I gave it 5 stars mainly for the setting and service. Not common in Dallas to have a nice setting to drink and socialize. Has a little touch of what you expect to find in California. The service was excellent. We came on a Tuesday afternoon so it was a very pleasant afternoon lunch spot. It was the perfect patio to lunch on for the weather we were having- we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Our waiter was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive, and the bus boys and other staff checked on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. We got the beet salad which was YUM, would order this again for sure. The goat cheese, orange, and beet combo was perfect and the honey vinaigrette was not too sweet or sour. My husband and I ordered the pasta of the day and the risotto of the day. The pasta was better than the risotto in my opinion. The pasta was a scallop pasta with peas and fresno peppers in a cream sauce. The portion was plentiful and the scallops were perfectly tender. The risotto was only okay- it had tiger prawns, chicken, mushrooms and asparagus. I felt the risotto wasn't as creamy as I would have liked and the prawns and the chicken were a tad dry. Overall food, service, ambiance were excellent and I like how big the menu is- there is plenty on there I would return to try again and i love how they have daily specials for soups, fish, risotto, and pasta. I had a magnificent night at Bistro 31 a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful Friday evening and we had a 7:30pm reservation. The weather was so great that we asked to sit outside, and our host said that we could go upstairs to their bar and relax until a table would be available on their patio, which we did. The upstairs scene is so trendy and can easily be branded as a hot spot for the "Dallas socialites". The music was cool, the vibe was fresh, and the drinks were good and refreshing. This is definitely the place to be this summer! Once our table was ready, we went down and got a nice spot on their patio. With more drinks coming, I ordered the Brioche Crusted Lemon Sole, which was quite amazing! The sole was cooked just right and it was accompanied by tasty ratatouille and the best aioli sauce I've had in a while, or maybe even ever. I have gone to this place a lot. Most recently, overpriced and not good. They changed something. I ordered a bowl of soup and not only did it taste like medicine but the bowl was so small I almost could not get my spoon in it. I returned it, but to my surprise when I paid the bill, it was still on the bill. I also ordered halibut, the fish was good but so small it was only about 4-5 bites. My wife had one glass of wine and pasta. I had two glasses of wine and what you read above and the total bill was $225. I won't be going back, too many other good places to eat. Selene was our server and she drove this experience; she was outstanding and our meal was delightful! We lunched on the patio, gorgeous 76 degree weather in Dallas' Highland Park. Came here for my birthday lunch the other day . Upon entering the environment is very upscale and fits the highland park village area . We were seated in the room in the far back . The first thing I noticed was the room was screened in with large plastic coverings . The friend that I came with said they sometimes have it open when the weather is nice . The weather was beautiful outside that day but unfortunately even after requesting they couldn't open them . Service : The service was pretty good . Our waiter was cordial and overall nice . I couldn't tell if our requests were annoying him or not to be honest . Food/drink : For starters I ordered the orange fedora cocktail. It is made with Hendricks gin and aperol . It was pretty pricey . I cannot say I recommend it at all . I love gin and I love Italian drinks that have aperol but this drink was simply not good . It was very concentrated in aperol I think or the balance wasn't right but we ended up requesting a club soda to mix in and make it into a tall glass . This made it significantly better and I was able to drink it all after that . For lunch I ordered the soup and salad combo . I had the tomato soup which was very delicious! My salad leafs were pretty wilted and disappointing though . It also came with a grilled cheese sandwich . I asked if I could just have cheddar cheese and bread for my grilled cheese but the waiter told me they could not do that; Which is odd if everything is freshly made to order . The table bread was outstanding ! It just took awhile to get a second batch with lunch but when it finally came it was a huge hit at our table . Since it was my birthday the waiter brought the dessert menu to our table . The dessert menu looked pretty extensive; I decided to go simple and requested just Vanilla Gelato with chocolate and a strawberry . It was perfect ! And they were sweet enough to add a sprinkler candle on top . Overall the experience was nice . The food was good and the service was good. I would"t go back however. The food would have to be exceptional to overcome the feeling you were eating in the middle of a very, very loud flash mob. The tables are so closely packed together you may as well be eating with the other guests at their table. You can hear every word of their conversation because you are practically sitting on their laps. They also felt the need to yell to be heard as everyone else was already speaking very loudly. They could stand to lose a few profits and spread the tables out so you could at least have a conversation with your friends. We gave up on trying to talk. They need to seriously work on sound absorbing solutions like upscale partitions and losing tables. They need to consider the atmosphere and the total experience over how many tables can be crammed into that space. It isn't a subway car to pack people in. I realize you want to make as much money as possible. But you lost this customer. The food isn't cheap so one shouldn't feel cheated out of a decent experience. People go out for the atmosphere as much as the food. They should be considered as equally important. it was clear the restaurant placed profit over quality. read more

We went to dinner here recently and had a great experience. We live nearby and enjoyed several of the restaurants in Highland Park Village. The dinner was delicious and the staff provided great service. I had the Beef Ragu and my wife had a salad she really enjoyed. The wine list was good and we had a good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. We wrapped up with dessert. We shared the Nutella Tiramasu it was really good. The loud music from upstairs is the only thing keeping this review from being a 5-star.
