Black Bear diner is what it is...an All American diner that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. It's one of those staples in Milpitas like Mil's Diner. It has its longevity and is one of the typical go-to places after church on a Sunday to share a meal with family. The food is so-so. Nothing to write home about but not bad either. It's your typical diner food, much like Denny's. I've never had trouble finding seating here even when they are busy. It's one of those places that have a special place in my heart since it's been around so long and I've had many family gatherings here. Prices are acceptable. Parking lot on site.

First time coming back here after so long and I was very impressed with how big our portions of food was compared to the other location we dined at. Myself & two other coworkers decided to come here after getting off of work. Our server Juanita was patient, sweet, superb on taking our orders down. My coworker was mind blown when she automatically came back with another glass of water before asking. I was just surprised by the portion of the pancakes and was expecting just a normal sized pancake you see at other breakfast diners. I look forward coming back here to try other items on the menu.

The steak is on the leaner side, but not hard to chew. There is not much crust and has some black pepper. I think they achieved medium rare as I asked. Potatoes are cut a bit thick but I don't mind it. Eggs were cooked perfectly.

I kid you not, the lady that served my table is the sweetest lady ever! I came for the unlimited fish fry thinking I can eat several fish, however, I was proven wrong as I was only able to make it to round two. That was a lot more fish than I anticipated! Thank you!

Juanita is a fabulous server. She's accommodating and never left me with an empty coffee cup or in need of anything.

I go to Black bear once every 10 years and it's still nice. I feel like I'm in Tahoe when I'm inside, which is the best! Relaxing nature vibes. Our wait staff Juanita today was very kind and attentive! We got our orders and food quickly and enjoyed a nice breakfast. I tried cinnamon roll French toast which was very fun. The center of the roll was still gooey, and it came with a little icing on top. Yum!

great service from Juanita welcoming, breakfast was great. My "cubs" finished the meals.

This was my first time visiting this place. I think it's a solid option when you're craving diner food. The portions are large and well-seasoned. One of its best features is that it makes its own hot sauces. All three are flavorful and vary in spiciness. I didn't take many pictures because I was honestly focused on enjoying the food. It's worth noting that the maple syrup served with the pancakes is warm, adding an extra touch of flavor. The location is spacious and clean, although parking is limited. The staff members are very friendly.

First of all--Good Morning! Next, I was so hungry and craving grits on my hour long commute to work that I thought about Black Bear. I came in and was instantly greeted, led to a table of my choosing and then immediately welcomed by Juanita, my service professional. I took some hot tea, which was served so fast--thank you Juanita! I then placed my desired order--GRITS, and also some biscuits with gravy, but let's be serious, I'm here for the grits. I wish I could teach folks how to properly make grits. I go for a new breakfast spot constantly in Milpitas area, just searching for yummy grits. #hardtofind Anyway, apart from my grits not meeting the expectations, Juanita did! I told her I was in a rush and she delivered. Fast service, fast food, fast check and such a sweetie. I'd come back just for her service. But not for the grits lol

I took my Mom here for lunch on our way to a family event. As we walked in, the manager (dark haired guy) I assumed, greeted us and asked how we were. I mentioned casually it was my Mom's birthday and he greeted her happy one. Our server was Sandra and she was super friendly. She told us to take our time looking at menu while she got our drinks. It's an extensive menu with lots to choose from. We placed our orders and Sandra was so detailed in answering questions and explaining choices with our meals. The restaurant has that cozy diner feel with bear decor everywhere. We went around St. Patrick's Day and they had a special menu. I ended going off that menu and had the Corned Beef and Cabbage. It also included Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and Veggies. It was really good, I enjoyed it and it was a good size portion. My Mom had a Patty Melt with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy as her side and she liked it. We were finished eating, waiting for our check when Sandra came with a bowl of Ice Cream with Whipped Cream and Sprinkles and a candle on top, and was singing Happy Birthday. What a nice surprise! Obviously the manager mentioned the birthday to her. She was so kind, really gave my Mom a heartfelt birthday greeting. Fantastic meal and kudos to the manager and Sandra for their amazing customer service.

Ask the Community - Black Bear Diner Milpitas

Do they veggie patties in burgers for vegetarians?

    I hope that

In the DoorDash app, for pies, is it single slice or a whole pie? If it's only a single slice, is there any way to buy a whole pie?

They are mini pies. Enough for two people, but it is not a whole big pie.

    Breakfast all day?

Yes all day. In fact the most recent promo is breakfast for dinner so that tells me definitely breakfast all day as a norm.

    Do you guys deliver?

Delivery is an option at this location. We use a third party for delivery and this may affect your time for delivery based on the driver(s) availability.

    Is their meatloaf any good?

Well, hello there! I may be biased... however, I will say "Yes, our meatloaf is good!" In fact, it was on my favorites list well before I started working for the company!

If I order the chocolate cream pie, is it a single slice or a whole pie?

It is an individual small pie but so good

    Do you accept debit card?

    Yes

    Do you have fried rice?

I don't think so! Why waste your time when you can go to an actual Chinese spot and get it authentic!!!

No lines and no crowds on a rainy day morning with plenty of available parking spots in the huge lot. Nothing attractive on the outside in this old popular plaza. The place turned out great with the old fashioned retro red color style interior and the experience was wonderful. Good vibes and positive feelings when walking into it. My lady server provided excellent service and the Hispanic male worker was quick and efficient. Place is clean and menu had good variety of selections. Breakfast is served all day while lunch items start at 11am. My breakfast was very fulfilling and total was $25.30 with everything included. I paid in cash and tipped them $5. Loved my sweet lady server. There was another older woman at the cash register. She's a local as well. I really enjoyed the stop. I had the Fajitas Omelette breakfast and the steak meats in it were very generous. Delicious breakfast exactly as I had expected. My onions green peppers potatoes were perfect with a side of salsa. Sourdough toast was delicious with the garlic butter taste. I really came for my favorite hot chocolate with whipped cream in the morning. I do miss big American breakfasts, especially in these old fashioned and traditional retro spots. Love it. Why didn't I visit this place much earlier? Because they're always busy or full inside and the plaza parking is usually congested with heavy traffic here. Overall, I love the vibes and the service. It's one of those places where you can just have normal casual conversations with the staffs working inside if you are open to it. Beautiful diner. Yes, I will be revisiting in the future. If you love huge food portions, there's great value here. One plate can easily be shared between two people. Nice.

We moved to Milpitas about a year ago and my son started going to Mil's and is a current 'Regular'. They have good food. So after a while, my husband and I started going there and we too started going there pretty regularly for breakfast, at least once or twice a week. All in all, between the family we drop a few hundred a week. And we do tip well. Most of the wait staff knows us. Today, my husband had to stop on his way home to use the restroom. He doesn't look homeless or unkempt in anyway. When he asked, they told him he couldn't unless he's a 'paying customer'. This was to a newer employee he hadnt seen before. He proceeded to explain that we eat here regularly and she still said no. He asked to speak to the manager, who does know him. He too said no. I find it ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that for a supposed family atmosphere restaurant, they couldn't extend a small courtesy. What exactly was it going to take away from them? As mentioned, we drop a good chunk of change there, and they didnt want to help out a patron that frequents the restaurant? Well, have no fear, we will NEVER darken your doorstep EVER again.

We were seated in their overflow area across from the main dining area. I enjoyed the Western Skillet, Country Potatoes and asked for their salsa too. My wife had their Clubhouse Sandwich with fries and our oldest son enjoyed the Chorizo Omelette, Hash Browns and a Pancake. As always the food was delicious and filling. I got a take-out container and so did my wife. The amount of food they serve is too much for the two of us to finish. However, our son had no problem finishing his meal. My wife enjoyed her omelette, even eating her hashbrowns, which I was surprised to see. Usually, she leaves them for me. She must've been hungry! The hamburger is a half pound of ground Angus beef before cooking and comes with lettuce and tomato and in my case cheddar cheese instead of American. Meaning you place your order and pay through their QR code menu. Even though it was self-serve, the staff was friendly and they came to check in on our table a couple of times to refill our drinks. The food was fantastic! As soon as you park you can smell the smoker going and it makes your mouth water. I ordered the ribs with a side of beef and beans and Mac and cheese. The cornbread comes with the platter. Ribs were St. Louis style with the bits of cartilage at the end that I really love to chew on. Meat was delicious and fall off the bone. Bbq sauce is ok the sweet side by balances well with a few drops of hot sauce. Portions are very health. The beans were delicious and almost reminded me of chili. Mac and cheese was on point. Overall I highly recommend checking them out. Whether you are in the area or just looking for a great bbq joint in the bay, Jackie's place won't disappoint. For the vegetarians, try their jackfruit "pulled pork" bowl! Also their desserts selection is amazing. Will have to come back to try their peach cobbler and lemon pie!

The original management seems to be back and I am so happy there is an authentic Filipino breakfast spot to come back to. My husband and I both really enjoyed our tocino silog with garlic rice and 2 perfect fried eggs. I really enjoyed the tomato and the spice vinegar along side it. The portions are great, and we left with to-go boxes. Really enjoyed the equator coffee as well. We will be back, and look forward to trying the homemade corned beef. Thank you East Bay Cafe Depot! So glad you are part of the Fremont Community.

Indoor and outdoor seating both available. Came by for a Saturday lunch and they said the food will take ~45 mins. They were very grateful for our patience and even threw in a plate of sweet pork longanisa on the house for the wait! We shared the pork adobo island d-lite and the Hawaiian char siu chicken burrito. I really enjoyed the pork adobo, it had melt in mouth texture and great flavorful and went really well with the garlic rice. The Hawaiian char siu chicken burrito was good too but I liked the pork adobo plate more. The service was wonderful and they really make you feel at home. Very kind folks, definitely come support them!

Gravy was a bit runny but flavorful - too bad because if the CFS had meat and was cooked right it could have been a good combination. Thought the first couple of bites were off... then I flipped it over. The "overcooked flavor" was masked by the gravy topping. Sad Positive: Eggs were cooked perfectly... I asked for over medium and they nailed it!! Crepe was just good... the whipped strawberry it came with was delish. Service was just mediocre... they didn't try to rectify the fact that I sent back the crispy low meat meal. No offer of a replacement and no apology. (I just wanted some sympathetic apology) Big place, appears to be clean, and has outdoor seating. Parking is challenging but they have a parking lot in the back. Would I go back? Not sure... like I said... I liked the chilaquiles last time - but this time... very disappointing.

Fresh florals on every table and in garnishes for the drinks! They had the FIFA World Cup on their flat screen above the bar. Drinks: Garden Spritz and the Ube matcha latte - not too overly sweet but great flavor and not too much alcohol! Would come back to order the other options they have. Food: Crispy thoroughly cooked through diced potatoes are to die for. I still remember the crisp crunch. The chicken waffles? I don't usually get these but this is a place I would definitely come back to just so I can eat this one specifically because I know it's good. The chicken was tender and not dried out, the waffles had flavor and the proportion was perfect!

Final Thoughts: 4.20/5.0…read more Contrary to many other opinions, I personally really like brunch. It really is more for the vibes and spending time with my friends and family versus the food sometimes. For some reason, this place has always been on my list of to-go brunch places, but I've just never had the chance to go here. After our matcha run, my friend and I decided to go here for brunch. It was around a 45 minute wait today. On their Yelp, appears to be quite the quaint place to to get food and relax. Will definitely be a 4 star for me. Food: Jumbo Crab Bene with seasonal fruit: 4.0/5 This is their fresh lump crab with sliced avocado, whole grain mustard and poached eggs stacked on lightly toasted English muffins, topped with scratch made Hollandaise sauce and garnished with locally sourced microgreens. This is served with either house potatoes or seasonal fruits. The lump crab is actually fresh crab I believe. There are some pieces of the shell that were still in there. I'm honestly not even mad because that's a pretty big indicator that it's the fresh crab meat picked out. The egg is nicely poached with a runny yolk. Hollandaise sauce is quite nice and light. The Dijon mustard was quite strong for me and did overwhelm some of the other flavors on the plate. It does add a nice flavor, but occasionally, it was too much. For the English muffin, it was quite thick, so it felt kind of dry. It's noted to be slightly toasted, but its somewhat hard to tell with the mustard, crab meat, and poached egg on top, which are mainly wet items. Avocado is perfectly ripe. I'm not an avocado person, but this one did it just right for me. The fruits came with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, apples, cantaloupe, and honeydew. Very refreshing and needed after the savory foods. Philly Steak Sandwich with garlic fries: 4.0/5 This sandwich has grilled steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms topped with provolone cheese on a toasted baguette with mayo and a light teriyaki drizzle. Will come with either a side of house salad or garlic fries. I really liked how they caramelized the onions and peppers inside of this. There's that additional sweetness from it that works well with the steak and cheese. Very tender meat. The bread also seemed kind of big and just almost dry too. Not too big of a concern given the amount of filling that they give. My friend choose the garlic fries and those were amazing. The cut is just right and the crisp on the outside is just so good. You can taste the garlic, but I could do with even more garlic to it. --------- Quality: Fresh Something I really like is that they use real crab in their jumbo crab bene. You can actually feel the tiny pieces of the shell in it, which usually means its fresh. The food did take a second to come out, but both were piping hot. My friends onions and veggies were quite caramelized, which is nice. Brings out a lot of the flavor component in the sandwich. The fries were actually so good too. I wanted the side of garli fries, but it was convenient that his came with it. Super crispy, nice size, flavor is good. May need a little more fresh garlic, but overall, really good. Price: Reasonable Prices seem reasonable for what they give. Initially, it does lean more on the expensive side, but their portion sizes are larger than your average brunch place. Prices will range from between $18 to $24, with a few outliers. Service: Very sweet workers Very nice service here. Everyone was sweet, greeted us, and checked on us. Our food did take a little longer than some others around us. For us, it was around a 25-30 minute wait after ordering our food. Even the table next to us that were seated after got their food first. The food did come out fresh, so I'm not really complaining. They did let us know and give us little updates about our wait and food though. Ambiance: Classic Brunch Spot The space is nice and looks slightly cramped inside. It was just my friend and I and they gave us a seat right in the corner next to the window. Honestly, probably the best spot for me and the person who seated us also noted that it was his favorite spot in the house. I didn't see much beyond from what was seen by the door. The space looks fairly small, but fit a decent amount of tables with walking space in between still. Always love the open kitchen. It's fun to watch what happens behind the scenes. Location/Parking: Large space It's located right on Saratoga Avenue. There is a Lucky grocery store here, so there is a lot of parking around. We really didn't have any concerns finding a space at all.
