I was looking forward to the opening of the Black Bear Diner in Yucca Valley. After eating there this morning I won't be eating there again. It is a very nice looking restaurant and most of the staff was very friendly and professi onal but the food was not great and it was served cold. We notified our server and he politely took it back to the kitchen but even the second time around everything was lukewarm at best. I understand that they are new to town but with the lengthy history this chain has I expected better. read more

I wanted to give this restaurant a try but oh my, Tables dont get cleaned, I made a reservation, arrived, got seated, and nobody came to take care of my family and I in over 25 minutes and even after, my wife requested five more minutes to order her food and they took again nearly 30 minutes, respectfully i wanted to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt but im sorry this is unacceptable. Took too long to seat us, understaffed. Nobody greeted us or even acknowledged us. The restraunt was no where near full of guest, so I don't understand why the wait was long. We ended up going down the street to western diner which had 1 waitress serving 7 different tables quickly, efficiently, had the best service & better food there. Horrible experience. Horrible Black Bear Diner. Took 1 hour to sit down even tho tables were open. Server got the order wrong multiple times. Food was cold when it finally came out over an hour later (after the hour waiting to sit). Workers are rude and incompetent. Gives BlackBear Diner a bad name. Go to Western Diner in the desert if you want better food and service of the same vibe. Will never go there again. If you want a good BlackBear Diner experience go to the one in Shasta. Black Bear Diner has been a staple in my family for years and glad to see one open up in Yucca Valley. The service is slow and probably need to hire more servers, I only saw two for the whole restaurant. The food is good but not great, I ordered the tri tip dip and it was very salty, the fries were cold along with flat soda. The decor is nice along with the Bear stuff everywhere, clean place along with a ok pie selection. read more

This was my first time here and I have to say it was amazing. The food was great, the portions were huge and filling. Our server, Amanda was amazing. She was very attentive, kind and funny. She made my first time here even better. There was a technical issue when ringing us up at the end, but she was able to fix it with the help of her manager Frank, who was also very attentive to us when dining. They both thanked us for coming in and made us feel good about dining there. The service was just great here and would definitely come back even though it's a 30 min drive. This restaurant is a must try! Food is great and the portions are enormous!! I would hands down recommend the cinnamon French toast, and the avocado chicken club. The best part of the experience was the amazing service, Amanda our server was incredible and is the reason I'm willing to make the 30 minute drive back every time. Needless to say Amanda isn't the only great personal, the manager Frank was nothing but attentive to our large party. Not to mentions the environment and theme are adorable. My experience at this location was disappointing and shocking. When Ordering I suggested the Manager take our order since he (Frank) was already at our table greeting us. I asked him how the quality was of their Meatloaf on the menu. Frank assured me that it was delicious. So I asked for a sample taste. He brought a slice on a saucer covered completely with a dark brown sauce. and my Niece tasted it and it was the consistency of watery paste. It had pieces of carrots in it also. It taste like dog food and the brown sauce was extremely salty. I asked a server named Sherri to get Frank for us. He came to our table and I asked him to taste the meatloaf then he immediately looked at my Niece and wouldn't answer if he would taste it. Then we explained how it tasted and asked if he could remedy the recipe for future customers but speaking to the cook or anyone who could take care of it. My niece ordered Chicken Cob Salad and I ordered Busquits and Gravy, 2 Pankakes,sausage and Poached Eggs. My nieces salad was a large flat plate full of greens and one very small chicken pieces. In the center. My Poached eggs were completely cooked in a small dip cup. I asked Sherri for another order of POACHED EGGS. The next order was exactly the same as the first. We asked for an additional chicken strip to make up the chicken ingredient in the CHICKEN COB SALAD and asked Sherri to ask Frank to not charge us for it because it should have been on the salad. She then disrespectful turned towards the direction of where Frank was and loudly said "They don't want to be charged for the chicken strip"!! And embarrassed herself. Frank didn't respond to her and continue to have his back to her and us. When Sherri came back to our table she was apologetic regarding the food and she said she was not in charge of the food and if we wanted to talk to someone who was we should call Corporate! So I asked for the number. She said "Sure ..I'll get you the number!" Then she brought our requested to go boxes for the rest of my nieces salad, and my single pancake and my 8 yr old great niece's fettuccine pasta. Sherri said the assistant Manager would answer my question regarding getting Corporates Number. He (David) the assistant manager told us that HE WAS INFORMED 'NOT TO GIVE US CORPORATES NUMBER'! After all of the Rude and bad customer service .. I asked Sherri to take our check to David and request a discount.. in which he honored and cut the check price in half! I will be telling all of the business owners and people I know Not to patronize the BLACK BEAR restaurant in Yucca Valley! All of the Employees we dealt with were not interested in doing a good customer service job. They got attitude at the very thought of correcting what was wrong. And appeared visibly inconvenienced at answering our valid questions regarding our food order corrections. So Sad because the only good thing was the decor. The meatloaf taste like mushy soft canned meat covered in . DEFINITELY NOT meatloaf. Chicken salad came with 1 baby chicken strip. Then they attempted to charge us for a extra strip on the fully plated salad. I was told by the David that he was Instructed Not to give me the corporate number. 3-stars is being kind. The staff are nice but seem overwhelmed. The food is mediocre at best. I've tried it twice and won't be back. First time I got a bowl of chili and a side salad. Everything tasted fine but the chili was cold and it took so long to get seated and place an order that I wasn't going to send it back. Today I sat at the counter to avoid the long line to be seated. It took ages for anyone to acknowledge me. My coffee came quickly but with no stirrer or utensils. I kept trying to make eye contact with someone. It took about 5 mins to get a spoon... and then they only brought a spoon so I was still without silverware when my plate came. I got the smothered grits. I love grits. These were watery and still somehow the best part of the meal. My ham and cheese omelet was cold. I was hoping for some salsa to with it but I knew I wouldn't get anyone's attention in a reasonable timeframe so did without. It was mediocre. As was the pancake. Also cold. Butter didn't melt or spread, and I put it on there immediately since everything else seemed room temp. For some reason, I wanted to try an almond bear claw and took it to go. After a couple bites it went in the trash. It was stale and tasted like refrigerator. I even tried microwaving it for a few but that didn't help. I was visiting my family and my sister and her husband took myself and 2of my daughter's and grandbaby to dinner at this place first of all it took them an hour and 45 minutes to take our order. Then 15 to 20 minutes after all of us got our food my youngest daughter finally got her food. Well here's the problem with the food my oldest daughter got Alfredo pasta when it arrived it was cold the manager came over we told him about this issue his response was well I can get it reheated then myself and my other daughter mentioned our fries were cold well they said they would recook them that took another 30 minutes to do boy what a nightmare! When we told this said manager his response was we took care of the food what more do you want us to do? That was very rude! First of all they wouldn't have to take care of the food if it was hot in the first place! This was awful we will never go back there! our bill was $150.00. We will not return! Newly opened so we were managing expectations plus once we got there we read all the bad reviews. But our experience was great! Went for weekday breakfast, so no wait, greeted warmly, waiter David was friendly and attentive. We had breakfast coupons and they gladly accepted it no prob. I Ordered biscuits / gravy (hot, well balanced) sausage links (pretty good), scrambled eggs (warm, good maybe a little over cooked but fine). Wife had sweet cream waffle, over easy eggs (good) and bacon (thicker cut, Smokey, good). Note the batter they use - sweet cream - for waffle & pancakes is def sweet. Wasn't really our thing after trying it. Strong coffee. Overall no issues, food came out to the table in normal tuning, enjoyed the food & service. Just huge portions- can def share and still have food leftover. A bit pricier than we would've thought but now days w inflation everything costs more, so sharing plates is the way to go! Extremely underwhelmed . After hearing all the hype, we decided to give it a shot. We were seated fairly quickly and introduced to our server. The atmosphere was a little loud for my taste, especially with the bass heavy jukebox. The menu was reminiscent of a grade school paper menu. There are no pictures and very bland descriptions printed on cheap paper. We were served in a decent amount of time. My mother in law ordered pot roast but was served meatloaf. Not the end of the world, I can understand that mistakes can happen. We waited for our server to return for quite a while but gave up and grabbed the attention of what I assume was the owner or manager. He was very prompt in fixing the mistake and brought the corrected food out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the tri tip and shrimp with onion rings and garlic toast. If the shrimp were supposed to be "colassal," I fear what their normal size shrimp look like. The steak was mediocre at best, and the onion rings tasted on par with any fast food restaurant. I did enjoy the cocktail sauce. My wife had the omelet, and she was let down as well. The portion sizes were much smaller than what I had expected. The prices were much like all the other gentrified restaurants around here. Almost 5 bucks for a lemonade? This is the world we live in now, I guess. My wife ordered a side of avocado but never received it. Only after driving away did I realize that they never gave me my garlic toast. All in all, I was pretty disappointed. Fresh, and perfectly hot! Our food was as expected as we have been to other Black Bear Diners. The portions are more than large, served hot and HAPPY comfort food! The remodel is attractive. I don't usually leave 5 star reviews and was going to leave 4 but after reading the negative reviews I really wanted to offer this restaurant a fair chance. They are new. Yes I had to wait to be seated in a Saturday. Yes the waitress had to look at the menu along with us to see what everything came with. It's a decent sized menu and THEY'RE NEW. I love that there is a new restaurant up here. A weekend brunch alternative to John's place and IHOP. Most people in the high desert are afraid of any change they will automatically judge anything new harshly. The food came out pretty quickly. They got all of our orders right. Our server was very nice. The food was great. I tried some of all the food that came to the table and it was all good. Corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, French toast, Parmesan sourdough burger.
