I didn't experience anything except the delicious chocolate pecan pie but I can't stop eating it. Probably one of the best Pecan pies i've ever had. Even after 3 days in the fridge the base is still nice and crisp without any sogginess. Lovely! Went to a birthday dinner at a restaurant in south San Francisco tonight and the birthday boy had the good sense to know this bakery and brought a cake to be served. I was delighted to taste a delicious yellow cake with a wonderful buttercream frosting with toasted coconut. I had to find out the name of the bakery. The cake was moist and flavorful and the icing had just the right balance of buttery sugary flavor without being overwhelming . I now have to stop in to this bakery to taste some of the other things they have to offer. read more

Black Jet is in my neighborhood and is absolutely my favorite bakery! I go at least once a week. They make great espresso drinks, and I think I've had every single one of their pastries. They never disappoint. My favs are the scones, poptarts, banana millet bread, everything snails, almond croissants, and seasonal danishes. I have done pre-orders as well: a birthday cake and, more recently, the dark chocolate gingerbread loaf. Both were crowd pleasers - so moist and fresh. This is my local bakery and it is solid. I give it 3 stars because the breakfast sandwiches with ham are consistent cold in the middle. They're pre-made and then reheated, which doesn't bother me that much because the flavor is good and the bread is tasty. What's annoying is that they haven't figured out how to heat the sandwiches through. The melty edges are great but the cold cheese and ham in the middle is decidedly not. Even when I ask for them to leave it in a little longer it isn't long enough. read more

I'm totally addicted to their fantastic tiny banana creme pies, their amazing oat bottom brownies (oatmeal cookie and Valhora brownie together! @Joanna L. - you were right to avoid that salted chocolate chip cookie. It's awful. I read all the glowing reviews and thought this place would be awesome. I had a hard time finding BJBC and the offerings were slim. Just some brownies, oreos, and choc. chip cookies. Nothing looked too appealing, then I heard my hubby shout out from behind me, "I'll take a chocolate chip cookie". OK, that makes the decision easy then, doesn't it? He cracked off half, I took one bite and promptly handed my half back. The cookie was so dry and awful that I wanted no part of it. Hubby took a bite and then crumbled up our leftovers and fed them to the birds. So, it ended up as bird food. Will not bother trying anything else. read more

For purely the macaroons alone this place is a five star bakery. I went to ritual roasters in hayes valley and continued going just for these guys. I figured out the source and now I am hooked. The coconut is caramelized and you get this toasty taste that is so super strong that it pleasantly stays with you for a little after you eat it. I bought two (through goodeggs.com) with the intentions of bringing them to work the next morning to eat one and give one to my work friend. It didn't happen. One of the best carrot cakes I've ever tasted, and the mini cupcakes were also very tasty and moist (my experience has usually been smaller cakes are too dry). A M A Z I N G! Black Jet created an incredible dessert display for my wedding. Everything was so yummy, that I had to have someone make a couple of to-go bags for me. I threw them in the freezer, and three weeks later, the pies in the jar, homemade Oreos, and sea salt chocolate chip cookies are still incredible. I am lucky that I live in LA, because if I had access to Black Jet on a regular basis, I would be 300 lbs. Their stuff is seriously so good that I cannot stop eating it. So do yourself a favor, WALK (or even run) to Black Jet right now. That way, you'll have worked out a little, and therefore, can eat all the yummy, yummy treats that Black Jet has to offer. read more

I miss pinkie's and sandbox!! Just walked into this place and everything just looked blah, including the cashier who didn't seem awake or had any life in him. Black Jet Bakery is INCREDIBLE. As a bit of a snob when it comes to my baked goods and someone who cares a little about my health, I've got some fairly exacting standards when it comes to stuffing buttery and sugary treats down my gullet. Everything that Gillian Shaw (the amazing owner) makes fits the bill....from her incredible pop tarts to her tasty takes on old favorites. You'll never buy another paltry Oreo from the supermarket or a greasy Oatmeal Cream Pie at a gas station...Black Jet's versions more than satisfy the nostalgic longings for these treats and just plain elevate them to new highs. And her macaroons are out of this world....I've seen entire blog postings with rambling poetry written in their honor. And all the accolades are well deserved. I know there is a current craze with those fussy French macarons, but give me Black Jet's caramelized coconut little balls of deliciousness any day of the week. Also, if you're having a wedding, do yourself a favor and get Black Jet to cater it....we did, and the dessert table was epic. Gillian even whipped up some mini-key lime pies in jars (my all-time favorite), and we froze the leftovers. It'll be a sad day when they're all gone....my advice is to scrap the big cake and just get a mound of cookies and pies from Black Jet for the affair. Your guests will thank you. read more

Absolute heaven. I can't say enough how much I love Gillian's treats! I literally will hide them with no shame, and have a feast. She puts so much love and care into every single treat, and you can feel it! Everything is made to absolute perfection; all of the sweetness balances out with the perfect presentation, care, and obvious skill. The Boston creme pie is not overly sweet, and addictive, the cupcakes are moist and filled with flavor, the banana creme pie is just divine, and her pop tarts are clever, fun, and flaky buttery goodness. Her raspberry bars- shut up right now. Too damn good. The blondies are absolute heaven- and you hit just a tiny bit of salt which hits the spot! Stopped in this morning to try a homemade "oreo". OH MY GOD it was great! Just the right balance of sweet and salty. I was excited for this neighborhood spot to open and am so glad it did! This is by far the best bakery in the city, the birthday cake especially is a crowd pleaser which even in a small crowd gets eaten quickly. All I can say is that I am not an Oreo fan but these are absolutely fantastic, I mean I even crave them and pop tarts are eclectic and delicious. Although I have never been in the shops personally I have ordered on goodeggs or at other coffee houses around SF. The treats aren't too sweet but just made to perfection. read more
