I tried the chocolate cupcake with chocolate buttercream icing and it was a dream. The cake is incredibly moist, and the buttercream is surprisingly light and airy, like whipped cream. The chocolate flavor in the buttercream is deep and somehow nostalgic. In fact, I'd say it's like chocolate milk got made into whipped cream. The combo with the cupcake base is wonderful. A cupcake fits in the palm of your hand and I felt like it was the perfect sized treat. It was a quick pickup in the Ferry Building and I only recently learned that they have a few other locations across the city. The location in the Ferry Building is not too big but you can find everything from full cakes to cookies to candies to chocolates. Walking around the Ferry Building in SF you see lots of little crumbs around on the floor from tourist who like feeding the birds. I know that it's not a good thing to feed the seagulls in SF because they keep coming back with more attitude. For instance at Oracle Park one year the SF Giants were going to use a hawk to chase away the flock of seagulls feeding themselves at the ball park. I walked into a store inside the Ferry Building called Miette Patisserie which means " Little Crumb" in French. This place had all kinds of sweet tooth and not too sweet treats like brown butter shortbread, cakes, candies, macarons, and other pastries. I had the Scharffen Berger Cake which was not too sweet but very rich. It was like having a blended brownie and cupcake at the same time. The exterior reminds me of the dessert called the " Milky Way Bombe" at Noe the Valley Bakery but with a flower decoration on top. Come here to pick up a treat during the Bastille Day celebration at the Embarcadero and walk around the Ferry Building and go to Miette( means " Little Crumb" in French) Patisserie just don't leave little crumbs around for the seagulls. Super cute store at The Ferry Bldg! Service is friendly and the store's vibe is fun and chill. I tried the carrot cupcake (yummy! i love the coconut bits inside) and the chocolate cupcakes with the Italian & strawberry frosting were sooo good! I call this one "Miette Mini" to myself. It's not quite as expansive as my beloved Hayes Valley location but when I'm in town and can't make it out there this is a great substitute cos I can still get a lot of the house-made things I love like their marshmallows, shortbreads, caramels, and chocolate wafer cookies. Thanks to their amazing cookbook I can make these at home, too, but nothing beats their incredible craftsmanship (and not having to make it myself, of course). Over due review. We stopped by this place inside the Ferry Building. They have many selections of desserts. What caught my eye were the lavender shortbread cookies and the chocolate bar. I had a chance to try them for the first time, I got the passionfruit turkish delight. I thought it was pretty good, it is sweet and does have a fruity flavor which somewhat tastes like passionfruit. The pieces are somewhat small and are chewy but not to the point of unpleasantly sticking to your mouth or throat and covered by powdered sugar. MP&C had many quality choices available made with high quality organic ingredients, so settling on the Double Chocolate and Carrot Cake was a great solution for my evening and afternoon dessert(s). The MP&C Double Chocolate Travel Cake is a rich a decadent delight and paired well with scoop of Van Leeuwen Vanilla Bean ice cream. MP&C definitely got my attention so much that I decided why not try the mail order service to indulge again. Today my items were delivered my only con was the cakes were melting due to the UPS delivery arriving at the end of the day after 7pm. I immediately placed them in the refrigerator to cool, which was a slight let down. MP&C did do an outstanding packaging presentation and the travel Cake was just as enjoyable as before. I would frequent this location in the Ferry Building when I used to work in SF and get special treats for me and my family. I love their shortbreads and their Chocolate Strawberry Cupcake. It has been a while before my recent visit and I was looking for my favorite lavender and chocolate shortbreads where they normally at but couldn't find them in the beginning although they were right in front of me. I was looking for the usual clear packaging and honestly panicking on the inside until I saw they repackaged their shortbreads and have upped their flavors! Whew! Besides getting my usuals, I also got their limited edition box which has samples of other flavors including chocolate chip, walnut, peanut butter, lemon. All are delish as always but chocolate chip is now part of my fave list. I also got a chocolate cupcake - moist cake with an ever so light yet not too sweet icing. I've ordered a couple cakes online from Miette and picked them up from this location, and both cakes tasted pretty good! The first cake I tried from Miette was one of their tom boy cakes that was for a coworker's birthday. It wasn't too sweet and it was just really good! That inspired me to order a cake for an aunt's birthday, and I chose the princess cake. Ordering was simple, and pick up was simple too. I ordered the 8 inch princess cake, and WOW, it was so heavy!!! The cake itself was so good that I kept going back for more. The cream, hot milk cake, jam, etc all went well together. My fave parts were the cream and the cake. The princess cake was beautiful too! Second cake I ordered was their Scharffenberger cake. A chocolate lover's delight! Not too sweet except for the ganache portion. The princess cake looked much better, but the chocolate one was good (just not decorated with the flower as advertised, which the princess cake had). Definitely recommend if you really enjoy chocolate. I got their macarons before too, and they were great. It was hard to tell which flavor was what though because they were all very similar in color. No artificial coloring! Miette has all these cute lil bags of candy too. I got some once, but they were overpriced. Probably paying for the presentation and variety choices, but nothing too special there imo. I keep missing out on their cupcakes, but would love to try some of those in the near future. read more

I went for a run and decided to stop by here to fulfill my sweet tooth! After seeing reviews and photos, I was excited to try the macaroons. I only got 4, which meant they were in a bag and not a box, not a huge deal. But once I took a look I was pretty disappointed. The appearance of the macaroons looked like they declined significantly from other photos on Yelp from years back. Similar to another Yelper's recent comment, it was nearly impossible to distinguish which flavor was which. The shell was all the same, the color of the filling was different for some (like the hazelnut one shown in the photo) but not for most. I've tried Miette at the Oakland location almost 10 years ago and thought I'd finally try the ferry building location since I work nearby. I love macaroons but I thought the ones here were simply okay. Some of the were hard to chew/had hard pieces. Or I would take a one bite and the whole thing would fall apart. They also all tasted pretty similar and I couldn't really distinguish the different flavors. I believe there were 6 flavors but I only remember 2 of them being Pistachio and Hazelnut and I couldn't tell what the others were. The Ferry Building is one of my favorite places in SF to visit, particularly if there is a farmer's market going on outside (and there often is). And when I visit the Ferry Building, I have to stop by Miette. Miette's hazelnut macaron is the best macaron I've tasted in my life thus far. (After hazelnut, my next two favorite flavors are lemon and pistachio.) According to their website, the secret to the world's best hazelnut macaron is a paste from the Piedmont region of Italy. As I've recently learned, Piedmont is one of the world leaders in hazelnut production, and is also where Nutella and Giandiuotto are made. In other words, the best hazelnuts in the world go into these, along with the three basic ingredients that make up Meitte's vanilla macarons: California almonds, Straus Family Creamery butter, and local organic eggs. Miette has all of their ingredients listed on their website, and they are all high-quality. On top of having the best macarons, the shop is really cute. The glass jars full of macarons on the counter-tops are very Instagrammable. In all of my experiences, the staff have been friendly, and the macarons have been fresh. I love this place, and highly recommend trying their macarons if you get the chance! read more
