I finally dined at the Black Water Grill! Located about half a mile west of Exit 2, the Black Water Grill provides an upscale casual dining experience with an American menu. This place was featured on TV Diner with Billy Costa, who's very cool in person. I've met Billy a few times at Kiss 108 events. The place looks modern and tastefully decorated throughout the restaurant. Light background music (Kenny G.) plays over the speakers. The restaurant has dining areas on the main level, downstairs and upstairs levels. There's also outdoor patio seating too. When I arrived around 3:20 PM for an early dinner and they were holding two private parties: upstairs and downstairs in the basement or a nice way to put it "the subterranean gallery." I was seated at a table in the bar area, which has several hardwood tables (with candlelight), seating at the bar, nice modern decor, a large TV & a smaller TV, high skyroof lighting, fireplace, and a place for a band to perform. The menu is on the PRICIER side with most entrees in the $15.99 to $24.99 range. Sandwiches, wraps, and burgers are priced from $6.99 to $10.99. The menu offers appetizers, salads, soups, pasta creations, steaks, seafood, chicken, kids menu, daily desserts, and sandwiches & burgers (served before 5:00 PM). For starters, the Baked Brie in Puff Pastry Cups ($6.99) served with walnuts and warm berries was very good. Next the Tropical Chicken Salad Wrap served with sweet potato fries, slightly higher charge ($8.49) and pickle spear was pretty good. The curry chicken salad was creamy wrapped with lettuce, tomatoes, and golden raisins in a sundried tomato wrap. The sweet potato fries were fantastic unsalted, hot & crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful inside, the way I like them! The daily desserts offered were a pumpkin cheesecake, towering chocolate cake, banana berry foster, and the chocolate chip bread pudding. I chose the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding ($6.99), a huge portion served warm in a bowl. This dessert was alright, could've been warmer, with uneven heat, probably microwaved. There were chunks of bread pudding, semi sweet chocolate chip morsels and topped with berries and whipped cream, very sweet and filling. Overall, the meal was pretty good, on the pricey side, with good service. My 'caffeine lovin' waitress/bartender was pleasant and very attentive throughout the meal, checking up on me, offering refills on ice water with lemon, timely delivery of the food, and runnin' on Dunkin'. The modern atmosphere was nice, but the background elevator music was making me a bit too relaxed. So sleepy, (yawwwwn) that I needed to be runnin' on Dunkin' as soon as I left. Called Black water grill on July 6, 2024 at 4:45pm to make a reservation ( celebrating my wife and my Mother in-law's birthday). A lady picked up the phone and said to me how many people in your party? and I said five. She said no problem, we don't take reservations. we will be able to accommodate you at anytime just come on down. One hour later we showed up all five of us (black) myself, my wife, Mother in-law and two daughters. Walked in and asked to be seated for a party of five and the lady said sorry we can't accommodate you, we can only accommodate a party of nine. This is just after they just seated a party of five ( all white). I said to both ladies you just told me over the phone you would accommodate us, and she said yes but sorry things changed. Called and made a reservation for 5. No problem; they had a table ready for us 30 min after we called. Hostess wasn't the greatest on greeting us and making us feel welcome but our waitress was AMAZING! She was so cool, calm and patient! Great vibes.. she dimmed the lights after we came. It was in the evening, so maybe that's what they do at a certain time of the night, but I loved it! Everyone at the table commented on the dimmed lighting and how cool that was. Appetizers were delicious; we got loaded nachos, pretzels, chicken tenders, buffalo Wu-Tang's, and more! I didn't get an alcoholic beverage but my friends indulged on some cocktails and said it was delicious. I really like this place. Such a cute location! I will be back soon. Food at Black Water Grill is consistently good every time we visit. The place is small, but we've never had an issue getting in when we want to sit at a table or at the bar. We have also attended several events there, and the event buffet food is just as good as regular dinner service. Lighting is dim in every room we've ever eaten in when we've gone, so be prepared if you eat in. But they are offering curb-side takeout during the COVID-19 pandemic and we will happily continue to support them and hope others do, too. Food portions are good for the price, and they are a local staple for us and many others in the neighborhood. They are tucked away near Stiles Road in town near Exit 2 off 1-93 (not on Route 28), so if you're new to town and hoping to find them, you may want to check a map to be safe. read more

Cute restaurant with real candle decor which makes for a very warm environment. We did not have a reservation on a Friday night and they seated us immediately. The waitress was friendly and capable and did a good job of anticipating our needs. The cocktails were very drinkable and I over heard the waitress trying to accommodate the off menu orders from the neighboring table. We ordered the pumpkin martini (good) The Whisky Sangria (good flavor but the ice melted and it was very watery and tasted more like tea after a couple of minutes. Great presentation though!), a Blood Orange Mule (it tasted like a flat Moscow Mule), and the house chianti. For the appetizer, we had a nice portion of the BWG Chicken Crunch that was served with BBQ sauce and cucumber on the side. These were crispy with a mildly sweet crumb breading and juicy in the center. We would order these again. They are also on the kids menu as an entrée. Our dinner order was a sampling of 1. Steak Tips ordered medium rare and served medium to medium well. The vegetable side had no seasoning. They were tasty but the presentation was meh. Trick me with a little salt or parsley or something! 2. The Chicken Sautee which was well received by the whole table. Prepared with sun-dried tomatoes and spinach mixed with cavatappi noodles that were nicely cooked. A piece of garlic bread would have been welcome with a smaller portion of pasta. The dish was huge with plenty to share. 3. The Beet Arugula and Goat Cheese Salad was phenomenal. The candied walnuts were perfect and the cherry tomatoes were sweet with lots of summer flavor. I think my personal favorite was the kids meal cheese pizza 4. Light and flavorful sauce with delicious mozzarella topping something that tasted similar to a toasted buttery Naan. This kid pizza was so delicious, I ate it right off my son's plate. Desert was ridiculous! The portions were huge but everything was yummy. We had the lemon ricotta bundt, which was 2 large slices of cake topped with whipped cream and raspberry and caramel drizzle. The berry cheesecake had the same drizzle combo and it was very nice. It tasted homemade with baked in fruit pieces. The apple crisp was served piping hot and was large enough to serve four people. It was probably our least favorite of the trio. We have been here twice and both times we have had an issue with the meal. One might ask themselves how is this possible when they are highly rated with a ton of reviews..... we wonder the same thing. Bread is delicious and brought out to the table warm. Flatbread special which consisted of butternut squash, cheese, salami, balsamic glaze and onions was out of this world!! Lettuce from the salad was very crisp so it was fresh. Always a plus. Here is where the issue lies.... STEAK First time: Ribeye was terrible and sent back. All gristle. Second time: Steak tips had the same issue and you needed a saw to try and get through them. The steaks are not prime meat but are a prime meat price. Nobody seems surprised when you send a meat product back so this might be the norm. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch on our way to camping in northern NH. Brisket sandwich was incredible. Meat was perfect. Adding caramelized onions, cheese, and a great bun and you've got a killer lunch. My gf got a beet and goat cheese salad that was nice too. Great staff. We moved to Salem about a year ago and honestly never went here due to the poor pictures on Yelp. But I have to say this is a great hidden gem. We really liked the outside of the restaurant and the decor inside was equally well done. Service was attentive,but not overly which is great. We wanted to eat on their nice patio , but there was a treat of thunderstorms all day. So outdoor eating wasn't a option. Food was good. Beer selection was good also. We'll be back soon! read more

The last time my wife and I were at The Blackwater Grill was in December, 2021. we were greeted by a friendly receptionist and shown to our clean, uncrowned table. Ashley, our server, was very congenial and proceeded to tell us what the drink specials for the night were. Unfortunately, neither my wife nor I drink alcoholic beverages, so we cannot comment on the drinke from the bar. My wife had her heart set on having a burger, so she ordered one with a side of fries. It came with fresh tomato, lettuce, onion, and a pickle. The entree special of the night was PEI mussels cooked in a cilantro cream sauce. I ordered those for my meal. They were delicious and plentiful. We both thought that the meals were reasonably priced. We recommend that you try The Black Water Grill if you have a chance. read more

The patio is a nice place for lunch. We went on a Friday and were able to finish within an hour. The lobster roll is so packed with lobster meat we took it home for a 2nd roll. The pastrami is moist and tender on perfect marble rye. The French fries are very good. read more

We've been a few times for lunch and really enjoyed it. The roast beef sandwich on naan bread is really good as are the many salad options. Drinks are well made too. Dinner is another story - we've never actually been. The website clearly says reservations not needed, but recommended for parties over 6. We've gone there THREE times as a party of either 3 or 4, at early times (5:00 ish) and each time we've been told there's a long wait (1.5 hours or even once we were told NO tables) even though there are many empty tables seen. I understand the tables may be reserved for reservations but I think it's in bad form to reserve ALL of your tables for reservations and none for walk-ins. If that's the case, the website should clearly indicate reservations are required for everyone. And perhaps use a service like open table to make things easier than calling. We won't try again. read more
