Have eaten here probably 10 times in three years and every meal has been outstanding. Service is also very good as well.

So my sisters and I were quite looking forward to a return trip to Blackfish. We had dined here during our previous annual trips to Wellfleet and absolutely loved it. Our .experience was less than satisfying last night due to incredible poor customer service. (Although I must say the bartender made a great vodka and tonic!). When we asked to have a simple modification to an appetizer to accommodate the dietary needs of the elderly diner in our party, the response was NO as It would impact the presentation of the plate, REALLY! this request had been easily accommodated on all previous visits. We really do think that management and the owner need to be come aware of the diner's experience is the most important! read more

My favorite place for for a fantastic and varied menu. I have never been disappointed in anything here. Whether you opt for a burger or go all out for steak and seafood you'll love it. Busy busy at night in season and on weekends...call ahead for reservations. I love lunching here during tourist season...lol...you'd swear you were listening to an x rated movie from all the mmmmmm's oooooo's and ahhhhhhhh's you hear. It's that good. read more

The only restaurant in the center of Truro. Often crowded, it has good service, a nice interior (though some say it's too dark) and good to very good Cape fare. I'm a fan. Here's a tip: make a reservation and arrive early for on-site parking. read more

My favorite dinner spot on the outer Cape. We go for drinks & appetizers or dinner. Love their mussels appetizer and the slow cooked duck drummettes. Blackfish does meat and fish equally great. They source local vegetables and farm raised foods. Also great atmosphere. Service is best in area. read more

We live year round on Cape and this is our favorite. Great food, great service. Well worth the trip.

Wanted to like this place, but was disappointed from the get go. Our reservation time got messed up because they were using a new res system. The hostess was rude and acted as though the mistake was ours. She was rude and made little effort to accommodate us. My companion's pork was served rare. My chicken was blood red at the joint. If you go, stick with items that are not cooked to order. Service staff was very good. read more

There is something disappointing about walking into a half-full restaurant, with a reservation, and being seated at the worst table - especially when the space is so pretty and full of ambiance. We were seated at the table near the computer for waitstaff to enter their orders, and on the main thoroughfare into the restaurant for seating guests and for waitstaff between the computer and kitchen -- it was a bit hectic, and the lighting extremely poor (the waitress had to give us a mini flashlight to read the menu). We could see vacant two-tops, but the hostess wouldn't accommodate. (Why? Perhaps we should have been more assertive.) That being said, the food and the service were excellent, the food some of the best we have experienced at the Cape. My strawberry-basil-vodka martini was very good - the strawberry was subtle, not syrupy and cloying; the vodka and basil really came through. My seared scallops with Parmesan fondue were to die for - perfectly cooked, on a a swath of delicious Parmesan crema and garnished with crispy/chewy Parmesan tuiles. A memorable, perfect dish. My husband had the leek and goat cheese tartlet; it was very good, however, a bit too sweet due to the leeks and being finished with balsamic vinegar. Nevertheless, the puff pastry crust was crispy and the entire dish was very well executed. My husband had the special of braised shortribs served with kimchee and pork fried rice; it was exceptional; the meat was fork tender and not too fatty or dry; the spicy-salty kimchee cut the richness of the braised beef perfectly. I ordered a second app as my entree, the confited pork belly; it, too, was well executed, but was incredibly rich following the scallops. Not being able to pass up dessert... The chocolate pie with pretzel crust was delicious, but I couldn't finish that either. We had some lovely leftovers. I highly recommend -- just be sure to ask for a good table when making reservations. read more

There are a lot of great restaurants on Cape Cod. It's a great place for foodies. Blackfish is great for a number of things, particularly their fish dishes. But this review is about a great surprise. Who would've thought that the best burger in New England is available here. Unbelievably good with their sautéed onions and truffle sauce. Almost sorry to leave such a good review; t's already hard enough to get in during the Cape Cod summer season. read more

Fantastic gem tucked away in the Truro. Last night I had one of the best meals I've had in a long time. On vacation up in Wellfleet my wife, son and I decided to try Blackfish and made a last minute reservation and were glad we did. First off the service, unassuming but perfectly timed, they gave us ample time to select both our drinks and meal and both were broguht relatively soon after ordering, the rest of the wait staff was also attentive and cleared our table only after the last person had clearly finished their meal. I had the wild mushrooms over tagliatelle, it was perfectly cooked, a very good sized portion and as tasty as it comes. My wife had the haddock over cuscus and again it was perfect. Lastly, my son had the tuna bolognese and he said it was the best pasta he had ever had. Even the sourdough bread was great. All this and in an out in an hour in ten minutes (our choice to be quick not theirs), so much better than other meals we had had in Wellfleet earlier in the week. Plan ahead don't miss this place. So good we even purchased a gift certificate for friends. read more

the more i dine out on cape cod, the more convinced i am that blackfish is the best fine dining experience around and so worth the drive. the surroundings, dining room (especially the back room with views of the garden) service and waitstaff are top notch and the food is just gorgeous. this is the one place where our friends from out of town are sure to be impressed and happy to have discovered somethg truly special. our favorite! read more

Excellent food in an intimate setting. And they have air conditioning, which is not always the case on the Cape. They have interesting combinations and some standards. Two of my friends started w/ mozzarella with tomatoes, which was done in an inventive way (tomatoes were in triangles) w/ a vinaigrette, and they were swooning. I had the Tuna Bolognese on pappardelle. It was awesome. I actually want to go back before we go home. They also know how to make decent mixed drinks, which is not something you can take for granted. read more

Wow. Not to sound like a snob, but I'm a New Yorker who works in the restaurant industry so I love to eat out often and try new places. After trying all the popular spots in Wellfleet, we decided to drive out here. So glad that we did. My boyfriend and I had an amazing meal-- steamed littlenecks in a cream broth, a special watermelon rib app and the 22oz ribeye and the tuna bolognese. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked-- do yourself a favor and come here. Everything else will pale in comparison-- seriously, we almost came back 2 nights later!! By FAR, the best food in and around both Wellfleet and Truro. Come here if you want your socks knocked off. read more

I try to get by at least a couple times each year and each time I am always so happy I made the effort. I have only sat at the bar but its so impressive watching the bar staff work together creating so many delicious concoctions and they look like they are enjoying their evening as much as their customers... It's just perfection to me - I love the casual cape vibe and genuine staff and then of course the amazing delicious food! How can carrots taste so good? You must try the carrot appetizer - who ever says that?! Well you likely need to try most everything on the menu so go with a few people and share. The scallop appetizer with the Parmesan crisp is a very nice blend of flavors. And then the tuna Bolognese never disappoints. I wish they were open a little more for the off season because this place is so inviting and comfortable you could sit and graze on the menu for hours. Love this place! We had a very nice dinner here without the kids. We had made a reservation and were seated promptly. Every table was taken on a Wednesday night in July, which impressed me since this place is a pretty good size too. We started with an onion tart for my husband and the seared scallops for me. The scallops were very fresh and perfectly cooked but the parmesan sauce with them just didn't work for me. I don't tend to love seafood paired with cheese to begin with and this dish didn't convince me otherwise. My husband's tart was very tasty. My entree was pappardelle with wild mushrooms and he got the rabbit ragu. My pasta had a boatload of various yummy mushrooms on it and was absolutely delicious. I tried my husband's rabbit ragu and it was quite good too, although I wished we had ordered things that didn't taste quite so similar. I was too full to take more than a bite of my husband's blackberry bread pudding but thought it was excellent even though I'm not a big blackberry person. Service was friendly and attentive. I might have given five stars but the room was more than a bit stuffy on a fairly cool night. Not surprising, since the windows in the main dining area don't appear to open. I went here two years ago on a much hotter evening and I remember that we were just dying of heat. At these prices, I think this restaurant might consider putting in some air conditioning. read more

I don't want to overplay this review as I've had some excellent meals here but a Tuesday night dinner earlier this month (august '11) was not one of them. It was such a let down, as I'd been looking forward to this occasion for months. A few top-line issues: First, the menu is very static, dominated by dishes that have been served for 2 years or more. Second, some of these dishes have no place on a summer menu: tuna bolognese (heavy), rabbit ragu (very heavy) and the like. Third, the array of specials is very limited (strange for high summer), no doubt due to issue #1. So, OK, lets try to find our way through the disappointing menu: Striped bass ceviche with home made tortilla chips, a tune nicoise salad (for me), oysters, a duck breast (my wife), a $15 burger (my daughter). The striped bass ceviche was hopelessly overcured, grey, lifeless, and unidentifiable as bass or even fish (could have been squid as far as I could tell). Overwhelmed by the cure mix. Compare this to the treatment of fresh fish at Sol (seenupdated review) or even Legal Seafoods (see new review). The Tuna was equally gray and sat on an inexplicable bed of heavily overdressed greens, odd little dots of olive, highly salted (processed) artichokes, and, happily, 6 perfectly cooked haricot vert. Oysters were fine with a nice mignonette. Duck was inedible, grizzly and nasty in a weird port reduction sauce (very old school and poorly done). The winner: the $15 dollar burger with house made potato chips. Conclusion: I'll be back in the fall for another shot in the quieter off-season, hoping to return to the top-tier restaurant that I once loved. read more

All I can say is Crazy delicious. Had the scallops and Parmesan fondue, frisee salad with duck egg, tuna bolognese and lobster-pasta dish. Every thing was amazing. I live on Cape Cod and trust me dining options are limited at best. This is truly an excellent restaurant and I happily travel from Sandwich to get here. We went on the very last night of the year, when they were having a charity function and trying to use up everything they had in the kitchen. My cousin was the hostess so she recommended it. So, we didn't order any specific dishes as they were doing a buffet. Everything they brought out was incredible! Duck confit with Brussels sprouts, calimari soup with lentils and angel hair pasta, back bacon in a broth with sausage and other meats, mushrooms and polenta and on and on it went. I was extremely disappointed in the way we were treated regarding our reservations. We have a 9 month old and made the reservation for 4 adults. We put a note in the reservation that we had an infant and would need a high chair. This was 4 days before the day of the reservation. On the day of the reservation, we received a call from the restaurant (only a few hours before we were supposed to be there) telling us that they could not accommodate us as the "high chair would take up too much room in the aisle" and that we should have made the reservation for 5 people. Apparently, they were reviewing the reservations and had just stumbled upon our note. Since when do you include a baby as a person on a reservation? I've NEVER experienced this before at any restaurant. Honestly, what bothered me the most was not the fact that they wanted us to have requested a reservation for 5 but instead was the complete unapologetic nature of the person who called. She made no effort to find us another reservation and instead said she could only take us at 9:45pm. Obviously, with a baby, that wouldn't work. I found her rude and curt. I'm sure the food is wonderful (as we had heard) but I won't ever recommend it given how we were treated. read more

Great little hideaway restaurant, wouldn't have ever driven by without yelp since it's tucked away inside residential area. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Food was upscale without being over priced. We especially loved the desserts and appetizers. Only downside is there are mosquitoes inside given its next to a pond (hard to keep them out I guess as people come in and out) and I got a couple of bites. Otherwise atmosphere is very relaxing and nice. read more

The food has always been solid, but the management is rigid and unwilling to accommodate. We've been coming since it opened and always try to get a reservation for 6. They always say it's impossible, yet for three years running there have been open tables where we could've been seated. We had dinner there on a week night when we were celebrating my husband's 76th birthday. Our 3 day get-a-way was really going terribly when we decided to have dinner here. The food was good and truly innovative. Bob loved the carrot appetizer made from local produce. We both ordered the lobster and chanterelles in butter sauce. The dish was well thought out with the texture of ingredients as well as their flavors being very compatible. The "back room" we read about in other reviews was nice with a huge window at the back letting in a ton of light and a comfortable looking banquet against the side wall. So many restaurant menus have similar (if not identical) offerings once you reach a certain price range. I assume they have consulted someone who specializes in "how to" structure a menu to please a particular audience. It's obvious that this restaurant has gone its own way because of its originality and taste. I'd dine here again on any trip to the Cape. read more

This is our new favorite restaurant on the Cape. Excellent service, excellent food, nice atmosphere. My husband and I shared the heirloom tomato with burrata salad. For dinner we both enjoyed the haddock special, served with a citrus-y sauce, purple fingerlings and kale. Great flavors and texture. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our waitress was polite, informed about the whole menu (where ingredients are sourced, etc.), and gave great recommendations. Definitely a keeper. read more
