This modern and spacious brewery was very popular on the weekday night we visited. I didn't try the food, but the menu looked good and varied. The beers were an interesting mix of local selections. The service doesn't exist. We spent an hour waiting on a friends chicken sandwich. My burger came out quick. We went down to multiple levels to politely check. It never happened. You also have a huge wait to just checkout. I can't really wrap my mind around the processes this place uses. It's inefficient. read more

Stopped in on a cold rainy day to get snacks and get warm. Beer brewed on site was incredible. Our snacks were so so good! Totally wanted more but we were all too full. Super awesome three story glass walled location. Was somehow industrial yet cozy. Tons of large flats screens and seeing the brewery was cool too. Service was a bit of work. Went in twice and guess they were just understaffed or maybe just didn't much care. You order at two locations from the bar when/if the bartender acknowledges your presence. I thought I was just being ignored but saw others being equally avoided. The girls expediting the food were so quick, friendly and attentive- that, the tasty food and delicious drinks made up for the overworked and bothered bartenders. The front of house staff was great, although they were fighting with the POS system constantly. The rooftop is a unique amenity in the area. If the weather is good it's a really nice place to enjoy friends. The kitchen needs help though. Our salads were fine, but DON'T ORDER THE RIBS. They had the mouthfeel of kindling. I actually had beef jerky in my backpack that I was able to compare to my ribs, and the jerky was more tender. I'm not exaggerating. The indication is that there is a real lack of quality control in the Blackstar kitchen so keep your order simple and go with a salad or a burger. read more

Service was amazing! Michael who I thought was the Mountain man himself walked me through the impressive beers and was a big help with their food menu which was almost as impressive as his beard. Right at 10pm the bear siren went off and he ran to the streets. He came back orphans in arms sat them down in the luxurious lounge and went back out there. 2 minutes later he popped back in; shirt tattered, claw marks through his ample chest hair but no scratch beyond. All he said was, "Whitefish am I right?" And poured us two Cerveza Mexican Lagers explained they're like coronas and said we could buy a crowler (a can/growler) to take it home if we wanted to... it was the 8th craziest thing I've ever seen. read more

This place was great when they first re-opened. Prices were a little high, service was a little slow, but the food was good and the beer was great. Now, the beer is still great. Service is rough, as we waited 15 minutes in an empty restaurant while the waitress played on her phone and left the fries for a burger in our order under the table warmer. The fries themselves were so overcooked as to be inedible, basically breaking in half. And the prices, which were high but reasonable for a tourist town before, have increased significantly. I'd recommend basically anywhere else in town. The Buffalo, Mama Blanca's, even Craggy or MacKenzie. If you want a middle of the road experience market d to tourists, come here. This place is comparable with carls Jr, got a smashburger and i dont eat fast food but it essentially tasted like a carls jr burger it was like a regular kids burger patty not all smashburger, Also got to try the beer queso and it tasted exactly like any basic queso dip at any grocery store. Not only was the food not great but the service was actually worse as we ordered upstairs at the bar and we were asking him questions and he actually told us to get things going along while we asked if the sides came with the burger, my stomach is hurting now after just 10 minutes of eating what felt like the most overpriced fast food eating experience. read more

I went into this place on a road trip realizing that my first option was about ready to close for the night and my second option was only letting people in with a ticket (a concert that night). Plenty of brews and TVs playing sports, but I did not drink any beers. Tried a crispy chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were good, the burger wasn't. While the chicken meat itself was OK, the breading was bone dry and tasted overcooked. I expected better for $14. Next time I'm in Whitefish, I'll try some brews, but I'll leave the food to other places in town. read more

This place had good beer and good food. However, there entire workflow is backwards and the service was terrible. Everyone has to order everything, food, beer, closing tabs through two lines and we waited 15 minutes before even being able to put in order. I closed out immediately, because while in line the guy in front of me was waiting in a crazy long line just to close tab. We ordered out food and beer, but after 45 minutes we had not received our food (everyone else around us who ordered after us we're almost done eating). I went to ask, they then brought us a cold pizza first. Then the salad we ordered 5 minutes later. We finished our salad and pizza and had to go back up to ask about our pretzel. We received a dismissive excuse for why we have not received our order as the person who placed order said we were at bar vs table (despite my wife waiving to her from our table during ordering). When I asked why we received the cold pizza then 10 minutes before the pretzel, I was just given dirty looks like I was the bad guy. The worst part, at no point did anyone say we screwed up, we are sorry, and this is how we can make it right. Do better. read more

I can't comment on the food because I didn't eat anything. The service was terrible. You have to find your own seat. When my wife I went, the restaurant was packed. We went to all the levels looking for a place to sit but couldn't find one. No employee ever acknowledged us or asked to help us. Clean and simple when you enter. No table service, but the food is delivered once ready. Staff is friendly and eager to help with making food and drink choices. We ordered the pretzel and Quinoa Salad with chicken and added an avocado. The salad was fresh and well proportioned. The pretzel came with a grainy brown mustard, cinnamon hiloney butter and beer cheese dip. The pretzel was gone so quickly, we ended up ordering a 2nd. We really enjoyed all the dipping options. The customer base is diverse and friendly. There is music playing, so a little loud but easy enough to hold a conversation at your table.
