The standout of the night was the raw oysters--big, classic Louisiana oysters at a very reasonable $2.33 each. We've come to prefer the flavor of smaller New England oysters, but at $3-$3.50 each, these were a great value. For entrées, we had three fish dishes and a veal piccata--the latter was the only miss. Overall, we had a very enjoyable evening. Total for four, including tip, came to about $310. Definitely worth a visit--this is a true New Orleans institution.

Meanwhile, all of those empty tables were slowly being set up by 4 other employees, all otherwise ignoring us. At this point we were very short on time and complained to the manager, who did not apologize but sent the server our way, who also did not only not apologize, but said "It's Mardi Gras what do you expect?" Again, there were only two other tables in the entire restaurant and a large handful of employees seemingly doing nothing at all. The food that did arrive was uncharacteristically bad and we did not even bother to finish, and it makes me wonder if it wasn't on purpose because of us complaining about waiting in an empty restaurant for an hour to actually be spoken to. We have been coming to Pascals for years because it is close to the Tucks' den and it was a nice tradition, but this was one of the most insulting experiences we've had, so we will be moving forward and making a new tradition next year.

We walked into the Rib Room just hoping they could possible cook something for me, and they crushed it! Our server (his name I sadly can't remember) and a gentlemen who seemed to be the manager, were on top of it and proactive about assuring me my food was being prepared safely. They even apologized for the wait (which was not long at all) and said they just wanted to make sure it was safely prepared. I will gladly wait longer if it's due to making sure my food is safe!! After we finished, Oscar, the host, brought us to the COOLEST little jazz club in the Omni hotel! He literally stopped us to ask if we wanted to go listen to the last few minutes of it before we left! The Turtle Soup was a major talking point for our guests. For many, it was a first-time experience. I personally preferred the deep, savory profile of the soup on its own, but the traditional tableside sherry pour added a unique complexity that made it a must-try for anyone visiting. For the main course, the U.S.D.A. Prime 16 oz Rib-Eye was the star. Serving a large group and getting the temperature right is usually where big events stumble, but these were cooked to a perfect medium-rare across the board. The char and seasoning were phenomenal--there wasn't a single complaint from the table, which says a lot for a group with varied steak preferences. We finished with the Crème Brûlée, which arrived perfectly chilled with that signature, glass-like caramelized sugar crust. Beyond the food, the service was the highlight. This was not the ambience we were looking for and despite being in blue jeans, we could afford anything and everything on the menu. So we asked the server for an actual table in the dining room and she pleasantly agreed to ask for us. The hostess, with as much attitude as she could dish out without actually calling us names, came up and said, "oh, you want a table?" She snatched the menus off the bar table and walked toward the dining room without saying another word. She sat us at an acceptable table and walked away, still oozing attitude. Luckily, Colin approached and quickly spun it around to an absolutely pleasant dining experience. The filet mignon was absolutely delectable! We also had a side of potatoes au gratin, which were pretty good as well. Colin's service was top-notch.
