Gado Gado - this delicious sleeper is a punch of flavor. It's coated in a tangy, sweet and slightly spicy dressing consisting of (from what i can taste) fish sauce, PB & lemongrass. I love the texture of fresh crunchy vegetables, potatoes and the cute shrimp chips decorated on the side. It also has a ton of delicious garlic that will linger in your mouth, but I'm not mad about it. If you're not afraid of intense Asian flavors, get this one! Also, definitely try the wasabi fries! Might sound strange, but you get the delicious wasabi flavor without the nose clearing bite. Great, friendly and fast service. This place is absolutely wonderful, even if a bit pricey. I walked in on a Wednesday evening and I was seated right away after being warmly greeted by the exceptionally friendly staff. I got the Cowboy BBQ burger and the garlic Parmesan fries. The burger was cooked perfectly medium rare, and it might be the best burger I've ever had. The fries were equally as good. The owner came over to check on me and thanked me for coming in. And my server was just the nicest person ever. I've dined in and ordered takeout from Blasteran before. Either way, the food is extremely tasty, unique, but oh so expensive. As a pescatarian, there are still options, but these are the items I'd highly recommend: brussels sprouts, garlic noodles, and cauliflower. The brussles sprouts (which it isn't vegetarian, but I can always pick out bits of bacon) flavored with curry vinaigrette and shallot, and the cauliflower flavored with fish sauce and hummus are my go to sides here. The garlic noodles are basic yakisoba noodles with oyster sauce, a bit of cheese, onions, and of course garlic. You can add on toppings, such as shrimp or scallops. Honestly, it's already tasty with any toppings. (Also, this place is quite pricey, so it better be a darn good occasion for me to add anything extra.) I've also tried their vegetarian burger. The vegetarian burger, though delicious, is also very expensive. I've had incredibly tasty vegetarian burgers elsewhere, for a fraction of the price, that I'd prefer...so stick with the noodles. My boyfriend has gotten their Chicken Karage Sandwich and their Blasteran Burger, both of which he HIGHLY recommends. He's also commented that the Blasteran burger has become one of his favorite burgers! If you're on the fence about Blasteran, just give it a shot. It'll be worth it! read more

We were a group of 6 on a random weekday night without a reservation. We had no issues finding street parking just around the corner. The servers at Blasteran kindly welcomed us in after just a short 10 minute wait. We opted to eat inside instead of the patio because of the intimate low lit atmosphere. For drinks, they have an impressive wine selection but a relatively limited cocktail and beer menu. Our favorite dishes were the gado gado salad and the garlic noodles. We were disappointed that the beef rendang noodles did not have that deep spiced and coconut flavor I was looking for (beef rendang is a rich Indonesian curry with cinnamon, cloves, tamarind, lemongrass, ginger, galangal, kefir lime leaves, among other spices). While the laksa had plenty of shellfish, the broth had a pretty flat flavor profile and lacked the seafood-enriched broth I've had at even random hawker stalls in Singapore. For these reasons, I think Blasteran missed the mark particularly because I had high expectations at its price range and disappointment that it didn't do southeast Asian food justice especially in a neighborhood of Los Angeles. read more

Blasteran is a tiny eatery on the east side of La Cienega, just south of Wilshire. There is no parking lot but there is metered parking as well as public lots available in the area. Because of the size, reservations are advisable. We were seated immediately for our reservation for 6. While the restaurant is noisy and there is not much room for the servers, the table itself was comfortable and did not feel claustrophobic. But, you will be close to your neighbor. The service is very good. They are super inconsistent on their wine pours, but everything else is fantastic - follow-up on dishes, promptness of service, refilling water, etc. Usually, I would ding for ripping me off on my wine, but I could not possibly due that after such a friendly welcome. So, avoid the wine. At a 4x markup, it is not worth it, and it would be the only sour part of your experience. I had the Gado Gado salad, which was fantastic. It is a very hearty salad made of shredded cabbage and carrots with bean sprouts, cubes of fried tofu, chopped cucumber and halved grape tomatoes tossed in a garlic peanut sauce style dressing topped with crispy shallots and half of a hard boiled egg and half of a lime. I recommend a squeeze of the lime for a little tang in a very rich salad. Prepare to be stuffed! The rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well - Brussels Caesar with Shrimp, Mac and Cheese, Crab and Corn chowder (this I can attest is off the hook and has lots of crab and corn), garlic noodles and Cowboy BBQ Burger as well as a chocolate lava cake). Although I'm a bit bummed, I'm happy to see another establishment that feels similar to the previous resident Prospect Gourmand (just a couple blocks away now). The interior was remodeled just a bit but is nicely done and tasteful. Beverages include cold options (juices, iced tea, still and sparkling water to name a few), sodas, hot drinks, and beers and wines. Garlic Parmesan fries - Nicely cooked and crispy with a great amount of parmesan cheese and a really tasty aioli. I can eat these all day. Salade Nicoise - Ahi tuna, baby potatoes, Kalamata olives, haricot verts, soft boiled egg, wild baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, olive tapenade in a tangy lemon vinaigrette. I really enjoyed this great Nicoise salad and their version of one. They seared ahi tuna nicely, the veggies were crisp and cooked perfectly, potatoes and eggs boiled nicely, and the tangy lemon vinaigrette was great! What the Dickens is this - a restaurant serving Mac n cheese and also authentic Beef Rendang.... On a bed of noodles instead of the usual rice- with a service level surpassed by none. What a great surprise -and with free parking behind the restaurant. Pork Belly Bun (baos) was shockingly wonderful - bursting with flavor and not fatty at all. Get the Cowboy burger (contains better beef than most restaurant ribeyes!) and also the juicy short rib. We ordered the truffle fries that were crispy outside ( double cooked for proper crispiness) and had a gentle amount of truffle oil infused ....and not overdone as is so often the case. Good food and great customer service. I really like this place because it's a very small quaint restaurant. I love the decor. The most importantly, the food was very very good. I had the tomato bish soup as it started. It was nice and hot, not too much dairy in it but it was very very good. I also had the Wagyu hamburger excellent bun was very fresh. It was Wagyu so the meat was on point, and then my niece had the garlic noodles, which I think probably is their specialty. Came here last week for a week day lunch with my new husband on our LA mini-moon. I definitely got the sense that this was a fast service kind of lunch place instead of a leisurely, take-your-time lunch place. All of our food came within 10 minutes of ordering it which I appreciated since we were super hungry. I just wished they checked in on us in the middle of the meal so that I can refill water and order a kombucha. We were done with our app, and two entrees and paid our check within an hour. As for the food, ranked from best to worst of the three things we ordered: 1. The garlic noodles were da bomb - it has the texture of pasta, a parmesan coating on top, and this thick delicious creamy garlic sauce with garlic bits. Definitely the favorite thing we tasted. Wish I could dip everything in this sauce. 2. The brussels sprouts were pretty good but needed a little more crisp though the smoked bacon and crispy shallots at least adds that textural contrast. Where there's no sauce, the sprouts are a bit under seasoned but the curry date vinaigrette really brings the dish to life. 3. The chicken karaage burger - maybe because we asked for it to not be spicy, I found it on the bland side when eaten within a burger but by itself, it was pretty good - tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. In the end, we ate all the chicken but left the rest of the burger. Parking was super simple for a Tuesday night dinner with plenty of space in the back lot to park for free. They also had street parking out front. The staff was super friendly, and we were promptly seated. Wanted to take my old coworker out for lunch and saw the high reviews for this restaurant on yelp so decided to recommend this place. When I got there I instantly remembered that it was another restaurant that I've been to in the past that was actually good for lunch and I was hoping that it was going to be the same vibe. My 2 tacos were good, just not sure if they were $20 good. My friend started eating her burger and then she looked at and realized that her burger was more medium rare vs medium well that she asked for. The waiter Anita and the manager did confirm that the burger was undercooked and agreed to remake the burger. By the time we got it back she was full off the french fries so we ended up taking the burger to go. They did give a discount on the burger for having to take it back and remake it which was nice. I worked at the hospital up the street, so we go out and eat lunch in the area quite often and there are definitely better priced places to eat close by that are very tasty .
