A little wait but worth it !! Food is delicious especially their jam !! Looks small but its bigger than it seems

It took me a while to finally post a review but I have to say, there was never a time where I left one of Blu Jams locations unsatisfied. Everything from the sweet breakfast items such as their renowned French toast all the way to their savory scrambles and eggs Benedict, none of their dishes has ever left me thinking "Hmm, that could have been better." I usually go with the make your own scramble with a side of French toast and I'm never disappointed. The eggs are always cooked perfectly; not runny and undercooked nor is it hard and overcooked. The home potatoes are absolutely my favorite, crispy and well seasoned. The French toast comes loaded with fresh fruits/berries and have never been soggy or limp and since the portions are so large, tend to make a great snack for later throughout the day. Blu Jam is also the only breakfast place where I don't drown the food in ketchup/hotsauce, which is indicative of a well cooked and seasoned breakfast. Pros: *Consistently delicious *No frills, no hassle, semi self-service ordering *The quality and taste of a $$$$ brunch spot without the $$$$ price *Generous portions *Friendly and efficient staff Cons: *A little crowded for inside dining but makes up for it with outside seating. Horrible service model! I wanted to love this place. We often drive through LA and thought I found a gem. A few minutes after walking in someone finally asked if we were checked in already. Then we were directed outside to a QR code where we could add ourselves to the waitlist. 15 minutes later, we were seated. After asking if this was our first time there, staff "reminded" us that they don't have servers, so we could scan the QR code on the table to place our order or go back to the front and order at the register. After placing our order and finalizing payment, our confirmation stated that our food would be ready in 50 minutes! While waiting, I reviewed their website because surely I missed where they describe their business model but couldn't find anything to that effect. This kind of information should be on their homepage so customers know what to expect. I was ready to give one star review but our food came within 20 minutes of placing our order so I added one more star. The food was average. As others have stated, potatoes are bland, but to be fair, it's rare to find a place that has tasty breakfast potatoes. Met some friends here on a weekday morning with my mom who was visiting from outta town. I had the chilaquiles which had good flavor but my chips were soggy I like it better when there still crunchy, but the flavor was good. Mom had French toast which she said she liked, just wish they had some syrup. The host was nice n remembered my mom wanted the special but I ordered the regular French toast and he brought it out to her which was very sweet and thoughtful. Sunday Brunch - Casual. No reservations. Can put your name in online if you are close by. Came here on a Sunday around 11:00am put my name in and it said 45 minutes but probably only took 30 before we were seated. The food was great same with the latte I had. I see why the French toast is a fan favorite, it was delicious. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Inside seating is alittle outdated - seems like an old cafe but the outdoor bench seating seems more fun and brunchy. I did take away two stars. One for the weird payment and order system. You have to order on your phone or with the hostess at the front. Very inconvenience especially for older patrons who may not be tech savvy. Then before your order goes in you have to pay and tip which is bizarre. Why would I tip prior to knowing how the service is? Seemed a little scammy especially when the prices are pretty high. I ended up paying over $35 for French toast and a latte. The hours are also very limited as they close at 2pm. Parking can be challenging. I would come back but I wasn't impressed by any means. We were a party of 4 and when the meal was over, we turned to each other and all said: "That was delicious!" You order on your phone and the food comes out super fast. I ordered the Oatmeal and it was creamy and covered in luscious berries. The star of the show was the Matcha Rose Latte (with rose petals floating on top). It was off-the-charts delicious! Today 7/29/2025 I placed an order online Create Your Own Open face omelete..4 items were required but I did not see avocado as an add-on...I already paid for my order and noted in the note box if avocado can be added...but was totally ok if it wasnt possible since I already paid. Blu Jam has and always will be my staple brunch spot. It has never disappointed me and is reliable for a solid brunch spot for any occasion. From the food, to the ambiance, to the speedy waiters, there's not much not to like. Their crunchy French toast is so unique and perfectly crunchy and delicious without being too sweet. I love almost all of their savory dishes especially the Italian breakfast and Migas! As a vegetarian, I've never had an issue finding a new dish to try here. Their coffees are great too! I love that you order at the table through a QR code. Just makes it so efficient and easy. It's such a cute location too on Ventura Blvd in walking distance to other shops and stores. read more

I had been to Blue Jam Cafe a few years back with a few friends two years or so ago & had a wonderful experience on the back patio. I no longer live in Sherman oaks, but wanted to spend holiday time with a friend. We saw a ton of people waiting for seats, my friend had arrived 1st & put our name in.. A girl handed us menus & we wandered to an open table on our own that was in the shade but with sun...I noticed we were at table 47 with a QR Code. We started looking at the menu & pulled up the QR Code... Nobody came over for a while...it was confusing. Eventually a girl saw us futzing around with our menus, looking for anyone to help us. She asked if we had been there before, we replied that we had each come some time back. She thanked us for coming back & asked if we knew their structure? "NO" we did not. She said you just order & pay from the QR Code & they bring it out. So my friend asked about if we each order our own thing or if it just be one person for the table. She said it is best to do on one order because everything comes out at once. So we placed our, what seemed to be a "TO GO ORDER" sitting at our table...without water or anything, so it had now had been, what seemed like 20 minutes, with no service, or questions answered. We could have just ordered from DOOR DASH if we wanted that type of service. How do you know what is good? This is not an experience I ever want again. I enjoyed the time with my friend, but will never go there again nor will I recommend that experience to anyone. It is impersonal, & not very service oriented...I did not want to order anything else & incur other charges. By the way, my friend got stuck with the bill...since it was only 1 check As former waiter & barista, we did not like this dining out experience. We like the banter between wait staff & customers & getting the low down on what is good or not. This was too impersonal for us. We will never be back. Good luck people! I love Blu Jam and the plethora of menu options they have for people with various diets. The waitlist process is simple, you can sign up on their tablet or on your phone via yelp. Lots of nearby street parking on Ventura/in the neighborhood, though sometimes it takes a while to find a spot since the area can get a bit busy. They have monthly specials, all of which looked delicious, but I opted for my favorite dish at this most recent visit, the tex-mex tofu hash. Portions are large, so come hungry, share, or take home leftovers. Love the yelp check in offer for a ginger shot as well! read more

Very impersonal service. Over priced. I ordered a basic bacon and egg breakfast and everything was cold. Ordered my eggs scrambled soft and they came overcooked. You can't just order a cup af coffee but have to order an $8+ cold press which was lukewarm at best. They said the toast was going to be rustic Italian and it was a plane white bread and only 1 small piece, cold and dry with 1 near frozed tab of butter. Broak the bread trying to butter it! The breakfast potatoes were, again cold, dry and overcooked. You get all that for an over priced $31+. Wow! Save your money. You can get a better breakfast at McDonald's read more

Been wanting to try this place and finally was able to on a (rainy) Thursday; a friend and I were on the waitlist for approx 10 minutes and then were sat. The (I'm assuming) manager explained the two ways to order (at the counter or via a Qcode on the table); very convenient. I got the breakfast burger and it was good (a bit messy but worth it!). The parking lot is in the back but there's meter parking on Ventura. I'd like to go back on a sunny day and try another item. read more

Really cool breakfast/ brunch spot. Interesting concept. No servers. You either place snd pay for your order online with their app or the website, or go to the cashier give your table number, order and pay. The food will be brought to your table. They have a nice menu with something for everyone. I love that you don't have to have potatoes with your breakfast they offer greens also. The app is easy to use and offers substitutions and extras. The food is big, and delicious. I got the Migas with greens, I added avocado and sour cream. The spice level was perfect not too spicy but enough you can still feel a burn but can taste your food. If you want more heat and really fresh bright flavor add the hot sauce they have on the table, Tabanero pic below. It was so good. Small place , gets busy, especially on weekends. There were seven in my party, and none of us had been here before; but we all had heard wonderful things about Blue Jam. We were surprised by the no cash policy, and the choice of ordering at the host desk or at the table using the QR code. We chose the latter. (Tried to see if payment info was mentioned on the website--didn't see that policy mentioned; could have been overlooked.) Everyone (except one) enjoyed their meals, stating that the food was delicious and plentiful. The one common concern: tipping! Ordering using the code requires payment before receiving food with the option to tip before receiving adequate service, hence the three stars instead of five. Cups of coffee were ordered and no server returned to ask if we wanted refills. No server returned to ask if there was anything that we needed after bringing our food. So the 20% tip that many of us paid upfront was for someone to bring us our plates--that's it! We placed our own orders and received minimal service. I recently read another review mentioning bland breakfast potatoes. I second that opinion. Nevertheless, I am glad that I experienced it; but not a restaurant that I would recommend or frequent. Typical Ventura Boulevard restaurant with substandard parking and substandard service, but decent food and portions for a mid morning gathering. It use to be way better before they did this. We will hot be back. We also celebrated a birthday they brought a candle that was not lit and said they were out of matches. We waited about 20 minutes for someone to come take our order before we finally got up and asked and were told you have to scan a barcode and order from your phone. Would have been nice and informative if the person who sat us advised us of this instead of assuming we've been here before. The last we came here was well over 3 years ago when there were waiters, so we had no clue. We also had to find someone to manually place our order anyway since we had a few modifications that we couldn't add from the phone. The whole thing is a bit inconvenient for a sit-down restaurant, but I guess this might be the new norm for a lot of places. The food came extremely quickly once we had the ordering down. The lox benedict and crunchy French toast were good. My friend got the morning hash modified to have bacon and goat cheese, and it was really good. I've been here quite a few times, but today was the first time since the pandemic. The food is delicious as ever. I ordered the broccoli omelette and it was fantastic. Huge chunks of broccoli and it was quite tasty. The omelette sits on a bed of potatoes and it's a great balance of flavors and textures. We also ordered an order of the crunchy French toast to share, and it was just as delicious as I remember. The crunchy topping contrasts well with the softness of the toast - topped with strawberries & blueberries plus a vanilla bean sauce, wowweee so good! It was my friend's daughter's first time having French toast, and it was definitely toddler approved! I did like that you could join the waitlist directly from the Yelp app. I didn't really like that you have to order directly from a QR code and, like how other reviewers have mentioned, you have to tip when you pay before you even get your service. After you are seated, no one really checks in on you - you have to wave down people or go to the counter for water refills or other requests. Aesthetic, delicious and generously portioned! Came here on a Wednesday around lunch time. I always see this place with a wait time, so weekend brunch was definitely not an option for me. Although, I thought it was convenient that you could join the waitlist through Yelp and they would text you when your table was ready. I ordered the Chilaquiles (probably one of the best I've ever had), the crunchy French toast (tastes like a regular French toast but just a twist on the texture and very good vanilla bean sauce instead of syrup), and the iced vanilla latte (subbed whole milk for half&half and it was so good!) The prices were more on the expensive side for a brunch meal, however, the portions did make up for it. I think almost everything can definitely be shareable between two people. The experience dining here was very different. You check in for a table through yelp. The host let's you choose a table. Water is served right away. The menu is via QR code on the table & you order & pay through that QR code. The food then comes out to your table once ready & to go boxes are already setup for you to grab as well. We ordered the crunchy French toast, huevos ranchers and a latte. The French toast was awful!!! Super hard and not good at all. It didn't taste fresh at all and we ate one each and didn't eat anymore. The huevos ranchers were good and the latte was meh. I've had better elsewhere. Man, this place used to be good! I've came twice for brunch in the span of a month and a half and it was a huge disappointment both times. First of all, the restaurant in itself is not clean and neat like it used to be. Broken benches, dirty tables, just a really unwelcoming vibe. Second, the food, both times was pretty bad. This last time I've ordered a salmon omelette and it was almost inedible. Who the heck messes up an omelette? Overcooked eggs, very salty, with a side of not so fresh salad. I've asked for a bit of olive oil for the salad, they brought me something that tasted so rancid I almost threw up. My son got a churro french toast. On paper, it sounds delicious, but it was literally a piece of bread covered in sugar. The espresso was weak. $40 for this average brunch???!! Without the tipping!! And you either pay up front or order through your phone, so basically no in person service, except for when they bring you the food. This is really sad and I will most definitely not be coming back.
