I also am not a fan of the no server option but this place is always ridiculously busy when I've come on the weekends so I understand that could be helpful to the servers. I was pleasantly surprised we didn't have to wait as long for a table as quoted through Yelp and service was prompt, order was correct they followed all the notes on the order so I can't complain. Jeff greeted me with such a warm welcome. I arrived only 30 mins before closing. I usually don't do that out of respect for the staff closing for the day, but I knew I'd be quick. Valet is available. As you walk in the door, you walk into the open kitchen then walk inside more, then there are more tables and patio seating. The noise level is fairly loud with some jazz music playing and plenty of chatter. They already have a jug of water with mint and lemon on the tables for convenience. The menu and existing pictures looked so good that it was hard to choose, I had to ask the waiter for his rec. We ordered the rancheros and the crispy french toast for the table. The rancheros had great texture but it was missing just some meat. The lomo was tasty with the chimichurri sauce but just the meat was a little dry. The crispy french toast was light, subtly sweet, and not too eggy. It was pretty perfect. The french press coffee was also tasty. I enjoyed my food and the ambiance. Food is great. Well my eggs Benedict were absolutely amazing not every place can get the hollandaise sauce correctly. My husband however said something was missing from his morning scrambled eggs. But that wasn't the thing that kept us from wanting to come back. It was the self serve. If I'm going to order on my phone, wait for the food to arrive and not have the customer service experience then I will just stay at home and order in. Both my husband and I were so confused literally our face the entire time. We both are social butterflies and love chit chatting with the waiter/server. I hate waiting in line but it was not too bad. They have mostly outdoor seating which is great and it's all shady. Nice service and very chill. The Benedict I had was done nicely, good sauce. And now the "but"...I've loved the Blu Jam experience for many years. This was my first return visit since the pandemic. Like all restaurants there been some changes. Unfortunately Blu Jam's changes were so annoying we almost left. It's become ridiculously impersonal -- from the unnecessary wait list system, to the "hostess" who seemed inconvenienced by our presence, to the overly complicated online ordering and payment system. We had breakfast here this morning. The valet service was quick and efficient. We had written our names on the waitlist once we got there and did not have to wait too long for a Saturday morning. The service was nice but the servers don't come around as often, which was understandable because of how busy they were, but they did have a lot of staff members so... None the less, the food was delicious! We went home full and happy. The seating inside is a bit closely set up so there isn't too much free space or privacy and the the noise level inside was really loud. We did not wait too long for the food to come out once we had ordered which was surprising and amazing! The tables all had a large bottle of water with lemon and mint inside which was refreshing. It was a very clean place and it was definitely worth the wait. I have also been to their other location further down in Encino which has a completely different set up and vibe to it, but to each their own. It was a different dining experience at each location. The prices were affordable and reasonable. I definitely will return and recommend the place to my family and friends. It was a nice place to spend my Saturday:) read more

We came here on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. We had to wait around 30 minutes for a table inside. After we were seated, we just scanned the QR code to look at the menu and order from our phones. It was convenient because we didn't have to split the bill or pay each other back because me and my friends just ordered our own food from our own phone! I got the California Omelette and we all shared the Crunchy French Toast. The Omelette was very standard, however it was a little dry and would've preferred it to be a little less cooked. It was my Besties birthday and I told her to pick a place so I can treat her for her birthday. She looked on Yelp and Google and decided to come here. I went ahead and on the morning of I put our name on the wait list as soon as it opened. I arrived to the Sherman Oaks location and the host was sitting in the table and she told me the power was out and they couldn't serve us. I told them that if they knew the power was out why didn't anyone call to inform those on the wait list to not come or they should've closed the wait list as people are driving to the location. She told me to go to the location in Tarzana. We drove the additional 20 minutes and the Tarzana location didn't disappoint. The ambiance was clean, and spacious. There is outside and inside seating. We ordered through there mobile app and it was easy to use. We waited a little bit but when the food came it was picture perfect. The food was delicious and I guess after the mess of the locations worth the drive. My friend got one of the Egg Benedict dishes and I had the Egg sandwich and we both shared the French toast. A cute little restaurant. They've adjusted their restaurant to accommodate for outdoor seating, and the seating is actually quite enjoyable. Their ordering system is different than other restaurants. You order and pay from your phone, and then they'll deliver the food to your table. All the staff here were super friendly and helpful. We were really excited to try their breakfast, and while the food was good, it wasn't exceptional. I tried their signature crunchy French toast, and as I said, it was good. The vanilla bean sauce was a good compliment to it, and it was super tasty. (They don't offer syrup here, only the vanilla bean sauce). I wish the vanilla bean sauce was thicker, though. That would've brought this dish to the next level. We also tried the Norwegian Benedict, and while good, there wasn't anything special to differentiate it from similar dishes at other restaurants. I asked her if i could move tables since something just opened up & she did a deep sigh and had an attitude about it and told me i would need to wait until she's finished with her customers that are in line. it takes less than 1 minute to move me from the back patio to where i wanted to be. i don't understand why i should have to wait in a line full of about 8 people to move tables, especially when there's a possibility of someone in that line sitting there and that pretty much defeats the purpose of everything. now let's talk about the ordering system, i get that it's covid and you're trying to minimize human contact as much as possible but maybe we should have the option of closing everything out at the end of our service, tipping before hand always makes me uneasy because if someone provides shit service, you already tipped them and they have no motivation to give you quality service. Also nobody checks on you for simple things like napkins, straws, to go boxes. etc. you have to get up and request those things which is frustrating last but not least, my orange juice didn't come, and i had to get up AGAIN to ask for an orange juice and i was already done with my food. When Covid hit, Blue Jam Cafe changed their rules. Understandable, but how long has it been? I found it very off-putting that they handed out menus, but you could only order food from the QR code, and the order would not be accepted unless you pre-paid for the meal, including tip. They would not take cash, which is probably illegal, as each bill specifically points out that "this note is legal tender for all debts, public and private". Why is it assumed that every person carries a cell phone, and is supposed to be as proficient as a 20 year old? Very rude. As far as the food goes, way too many bland potatoes to make the plate seem full. Add a little variety, perhaps? The restaurant is quite small on the inside however very cozy and quaint, we were sat outside near a heat lamp luckily since it was quite chilly. We both ordered the "simply eggs"-Three eggs scrambled, poached or fried, grilled potatoes, toast (chicken sausage or smoked bacon add $1.95 - both nitrate free) I added bacon, and we shared the signature Crunchy french toast-French brioche dipped in their secret batter, rolled in crunchy corn flakes and grilled to perfection, topped with fresh berries, served with powdered sugar and vanilla bean sauce. Really enjoyed my meal here! We got a Norwegian benedict, Crunchy french toast, Eggwich and Steak hash and everything was good and well seasoned, not too salty and nothing bland. The outdoor seating was done so well with umbrella shades and picnic benches. This location also has a really generously sized parking lot behind the building, I wish I checked Yelp to verify the parking situation before investing so many quarters into the meter. But, service is fast, touchless, everything via phone including payment so you order and pay via the phone and then the server brings you your drinks and food and afterwards you can just leave without any further interaction. Would definitely also recommend the freshly squeezed orange juice as it is essentially a little taste of sunshine! Although its a bit pricy, it was such a nice treat and good, comfortable outdoor dining experience during these pandemic times. Very good brunch spot. Came a few weeks ago with my friend and we put ourselves on the waitlist about an hour before around 11am on a Sunday. We asked for outdoor seating and they happily complied. You can either order online or in person - we were going to do online but there was some malfunction so we had to go in person.
