I went Bludorn for a business dinner meeting and had a good time. Please be aware that we were served from a preselected menu so my perspective of the restaurant will be limited. I had a mocktail called Coco Canela and let me tell you that drink was all I needed and more!!! So delicious! For the appetizer, I had the Maitake Mushroom which was a pleasant surprise. I love mushrooms and had never heard of this type before so I was eager to try it. It had a really great texture and the flavor mixed with the sauce was perfection. For the main course, I had the Grouper. I always enjoy grouper because to me it is a meatier type of fish. I thought they did a pretty good job. They spiced it up with the garnishing on the plate that added a new element to it. For dessert I had the chocolate cake and unfortunately I did not care for it (the taste or the texture). Overall, I think it's a good spot to check out. I'm sure they have much more to offer on the menu, but like I said previously, I went during a business meeting so I did not have the opportunity preview the full menu. I really wanted to like Bludorn. It's been at the top of my list of restaurants I wanted to try out, and unfortunately most of the things we ordered were extremely underwhelming. I went at 8pm on a Wednesday night and it was completely packed. My group of 7 dined outdoors. Oysters - all 3 ways. A good start to our meal but unfortunately this was the best thing we got, which is sad because you can't really mess up oysters. Maitake Mushroom - Make sure you try it with the sauce. The mushroom tastes meaty and flavorful. Foie gras - I've heard so many people talk about this dish. It was 2/5. The apples masks the foie and the ratio of the apple to brioche is completely off. Beef tartare - this was just okay. Wouldn't recommend. Wish we got the octopus instead. Ravioli - we specifically asked for it to be cooked well done because the birthday girl previously tried it and said it was too hard. Well it still came out hard despite us asking for it well done. Spaghetti - this was the dish I was most excited about. I love uni. Our dish had no uni flavor and only a few chunks of blue crab. So disappointing because everyone raves about this. Tomahawk - our server sold us on the tomahawk after we almost ordered 2 NY strips. They came out with the steak for presentation then took it back to cut. They came out 20 mins later not on a hot plate so the steak was cold and flavorless. The twice baked potatoes were better than the steak itself. Chicken - ok this was really good, especially for chicken breast. This was better than the tomahawk. It was so tender! I'm not sure if we came on an off night, but the mix of over priced underwhelming and flavorless food plus our snarky server, I wouldn't come back to Bludorn again. Lets go for an oyster party...they were delicious. Some very heavy and some really refreshing, but sign me up for them again. Now not sure if the drinks were just flowing very well by the time our main came out or it just needs improvement. The lobster pot pie, too soupy and the best part was the breading, the top layer, the rest of the breading was hard and and crumbled when you tried to grab it. The short rib ravioli was really good, would order again and the duck that was on point. The rest of the dishes were good as well but just okay imo. So judging this place along the lines of other places in similar price point. Starting off, when we were sat down everything was good the bread was amazing and we had half a dozen raw oysters which were also good. Then came the octopus which was really good! A def highlight and great texture. As far as main course we had the hangar steak which was what you would expect. The lamb shoulder was honestly pretty dry and had to really mix it with everything else. So this was the lowest point out of the food that was served. The chocolate tart was great. Service up to this point was decent could be better as I did not know who our server was as 3 different people came up to us and one of them was not at all cheery and looked like it was a chore to come take our order UNTIL we got to the end. After we got served the dessert nobody came by to ask how it was and when I asked for the bill it didn't come till 20 min later and it was wrong. The ambiance was nice. Overall I give this place 7/10 the lamb and service is what gave it that score. Again compared to other places in the same price point. Also it was both of our birthdays celebration one of the 8th and one on the 11th. And we went on the 10th. Wow - what a night. I can say I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a restaurant experience this much, dare I say never? Our small group came here on a Thursday evening (make a reservation in advance) and decided we were going to go big - if we wanted to try something, we were going to. So with that YOLO attitude in tow we asked for menu recommendations from our server who gave lots of great, enticing ideas. Here is how we ended up: a mixture of the raw, fried, and charbroiled oysters, the large short rib ravioli, the small uni spaghetti, the on-special wagyu tomahawk steak that came with twice baked potates, creamed spinach, and sweet potatoes as sides, the lobster pot pie, and the baked alaska dessert. Add in a bottle of wine and we had a party. Let's break it down. After ordering, complimentary bread and homemade unsalted butter was brought to the table. I do not eat oysters so I can't weigh in, but they were presented wonderfully and the others really enjoyed them. Now for what I did try - our waiter suggested the large portion of ravioli based on our table size of 3 (small comes with 4, large comes with 8) and frankly even though it was delicious we had enough to try so we should have gotten the small. But, these bad boys were stuffed to the brim with short rib meat and the pasta was the perfect homemade texture; topped with the seemingly odd combo of a fig reduction sauce and blue cheese, it all just worked. Very delicious! The uni pasta was something a friend said we had to try if we came so of course I obliged, and he was right - this dish was so different than anything I had ever had in my life. The spaghetti was topped with some magical, creamy, buttery sauce that the sea urchin and crab just melted away into. Don't let the exoticness of sea urchin turn you off like it almost did to me when I first read what was in the dish - it was excellent and the flavors and richness closely resembles that of lobster. Which brings us to the main course - let's start with the star of the show, the lobster pot pie. How can you see this on the menu and not get it? First off, its giant, easily shared by 2-3 people. The pot pie's top is delicately cut off and cream stirred in tableside to give it that richness you come to expect from a lobster dish. Think lobster bisque with the biggest chunks of lobster ever and some fire roaster corn all in a flaky crust. Not to be outdone, the wagyu tomahawk was a monster; it is first presented to you as-is before it is taken back to the kitchen to be carved. I have heard people talk about steak that melts in your mouth and it must be this - it was heaven. Simply seasoned but enough to give it that crust, perfect fatty marble, cooked to perfection. I think it may be hard to find another steak in Houston that will live up to this dish. I would be remised if I didn't mention the sides with some deets: the sweet potatoes were the best sweet potatoes I have had probably ever - they are cut into chunks and roasted so they are crispy outside and buttery smooth on the inside with a a lightly sweet seasoning. The creamed spinach was decadent without being obviously visually creamy (more magic), and the twice baked potatoes, although simple, were rich and delicious. Lastly, even though we were insanely full, we saw some other tables order the baked alaska dessert so we were sold. So glad we did - could this be my most favorite dessert dish on the planet now? The marshmallow fluff was insanely good, not fake tasting at all, the pistachio ice cream was delicate in flavor so it did not overpower the rest of the dessert, and the raspberry sorbet core seemed like an odd flavor pairing but of course worked exquisitely. Light all that on fire and its the best possible way to end a meal. If that food review doesn't convince you, come for the excellent service and staff. Service is top-notch from the second you walk in the door until you leave. Parking is valet, currently $7. Street parking may be an option, but it is a pretty busy area. read more

We got the truffle risotto (awesome) & duck (it was good not excellent). For apps we did half dozen oysters and tried 2 of each gulf option they had that evening (our fave is still Eunice or Traveler's Table for Oysters). We also did beef tartare which was amazing. The oysters were delish and I wish we ordered a full dozen. It was our first time so we wanted to try the all time favorites for entrees. We were there for a celebration so decided to ball out on the baked Alaska - an instagrammable moment. I watched as this place moved in and eagerly awaited finally trying it. I went for a business dinner and everyone was so impressed. From the service to the food, the experience was fantastic. The entire restaurant shares tips and maybe that's the key because I felt like everyone's mission was to take care of us. When you get up, they fold your napkin. Whether you're male or female, they help you with your chair. Your server(s) are knowledgeable and friendly. I had the Truffle Spaghetti and tried the Truffle Risotto. The Spaghetti was way better. I probably wouldn't pay for the truffles out of pocket because my palette isn't refined enough to taste them (though I love truffle oil and truffle salt lol) but still the dish was delicious! We ordered some potato wedges that were so good, too! The tuna on the seafood tower was soooooo good! (oops. Ate it before I took a pic). I would love the blessing of coming back and hope I can. We (4) went for brunch for a friends birthday. The service and ambiance are great. However the drinks are really pricey - I got a regular margarita and it was almost $18! It was super watery tasting. The complimentary bread they serve was really hard and chewy. I got the quiche - the pasty was burnt and barely edible. The filling was bland and it was served with a couple of green leaves. I came here for a close friend's birthday dinner, and I selected it because it was fancy and had good reviews. When we got seated at our table, we were greeted with moist towelettes (I know, I used the cringey m-word) and a review of the best things to get on the menu. The waiter was very knowledgeable of everything on the menu, and gave us some good recommendations. My friend got a fish dish, and I got a jallof rice dish, and we got two mocktails. The drinks were amazing-10/10. The fish dish was also really good, but I felt like the jallof rice was a tad bit salty for my liking. If they had toned down the salt to bring out the other flavors a bit more, I think the dish would have also hit the spot, but I had to stop after a couple of bites. The dessert at the end was also delicious. Overall, I'd recommend the seafood dishes here, and maybe stay away from the rice, unless you love salt. I had very high-expectations for Bludorn given the tremendous amount of hype and good reviews it's gotten. Some areas met these expectations while others fell short. The atmosphere was great! The interior was beautiful and seating was comfortable. It was also easy to hear everyone at our 6-person table. The food ranged from okay to excellent. The Beef Wellington was just okay. It was under-seasoned and the pastry was not great. The beets, oysters and ravioli were good. I enjoyed all of them. However, they weren't super unique/memorable. The halibut was fantastic! It was perfectly cooked, the pecan syrup was delicious and the squash and vegetables balanced out the other flavors well. The desserts were just okay. We tried the pear glacee, the chocolate mousse, the chocolate cake, the Greek donuts, and the baked Alaska. I think the chocolate cake (Chocolate Financier) was the best of these. Serving size on all desserts could be reduced. All served 2-4 people, while the entrees and appetizers were portioned for 1. The service was okay. It seemed like there were always a lot of servers around us, but nothing quite went smoothly. First, you get a warm towel to wash your hands and then are asked to place it on the plate in front of you. That plate was then removed and replaced with another 2 plates. When the food came, those plates were placed on the table and the brand new plates, mostly untouched, were removed. It felt like the table was constantly being changed, but not in a methodical way. Because of all this changing, it also felt like we were constantly being interrupted by servers and staff. I don't think it was their fault, I just don't think that the transitions between courses/table settings were well thought out. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Bludorn. However, I think it needs to work on it's execution. For how expensive the meal was, all the dishes should have been very good and the service experience should have felt effortless and accommodating. An absolute delight. We had a fabulous experience at brunch today. Service started at valet and was exceptional at every step. The valet had just stepped away helping another customer. I believe it was a manager that came out and helped with valet so we didn't have to wait at all. We were immediately created and able to sit at our table a little before our reservation time. We were promptly greeted and all the servers and everyone that helped us was extremely kind and helpful. Everyone worked extremely well together. We started with the khachapuri... I don't even know how to describe the flavors. This cheesy bread had a egg on top and the server broke the egg and mixed it with the cheese. For our main dishes we had the spare rib ravioli, the steak and eggs the shrimp and grits and crab cake Benedict. We shared the bacon as a side. Everything was delicious, we shared everything so we all got a little to taste. The ravioli was my favorite main course. the combination with the figs and the blue cheese was an incredible pairing. The open dining room - elegantly redone - is both relaxing and energizing. The buzzy crowd that was there at 5:45pm on a Thursday night (!) was like jewelry - women in an array of gorgeous summer dresses, guys less well dressed but passable :-) Service - superb. There is an ocean of staff, swiftly bringing out the yum sourdough bread with butter, filling water glasses, taking your drink order. Two sommeliers were on the floor that night and the women helped us find a subtle wine. For apps, The Hub has the oyster combo and I went with the clean, but not distinctive shrimp - tasty, but not remarkable. For entrees he went with the signature lobster pot pie while I enjoyed the lamb which was divine. Yes, to dessert - strawberry shortcake, which was heavenly, and whatever Hub had he enjoyed. Yes we would run back. Yes, it's pricey, but the food, service, atmosphere put it into the five-star category. Something I thought was really cool was we could watch Aaron Bludorn checking all the dishes leave the kitchen and helping out!! We got recommended by our local foodie friend, just over 2 miles from downtown Houston. It's in a weird residential street it seems, dark and odd building, but it's was quite a big restaurant. Valet parking $7, a long bar to the left, the main dining room to the right, and the patio outback where we were more comfortable away from others. The place was jammed pack on a weeknight. Like no pandemic at all, and people were smiling, enjoying the delicious food and drinks here. That good vibes that we used to have in SF Silicon Valley before the pandemic. We knew then we were in for a real treat. Our server Stephanie & back server Jose were great. That cute kid Donald from Scotland was so nice to us, who took sour photo. Thank you. The GM was charming and so Molly the Somm. The kind of service that you would expected at Michelin restaurant minus the stuffiness :) Maitake mushroom was bomb good, with a spicy kicks of the chili to it! The flatbread was simple but add fresh truffle on top, icing on the cake! If you know me, I order truffle if it's on the menu period. The truffle spaghetti was delicious, showered in cheese and truffle, extra fresh supplement on top. My husband and I licked the plate good. The Redneck burger, because of the name, but nothing redneck about it :) Haha hubby and I barely finished 1-4 of it. Reminded us a touch of Boulud burger. The Panna Cotta was very good. The Yuzu Sour with Japanese Whiskey, Cynar, yuzu, star anise... Was good but not sour at all. The cocktail served missed the star anise, and another one served by a gent in suite with it later, odd. The Army and Navy (since hubby was a Lt. Comm in the Navy before) he ordered, very girl peachy looking but it was so smooth and good! Order this and you will surely enjoy! Well done chef Bludorn, a veteran of chef Douglas Keane (late Cyrus in Healdsburg, CA soon to be open again in Sonoma/Napa region) and the iconic chef Daniel Boulud, which the chefs that I admire and frequent their restaurants before and now. First I'd like to preface this review with the amount of hype surrounding Bludorn! For some dishes, the hype is completely warranted while others missed the mark. We came in for brunch- so maybe this was an off day? For starters we had the fried oysters and cinnamon rolls- a weird combo lol! The oysters were bland and devoid of flavor 2/5 The cinnamon rolls on the other hand were arguably the best I've ever had 5/5. For mains we sampled the artichoke Benedict, hamburger, and lobster scramble. The Benedict was good, not great but extremely fresh 3/5. The burger- amazing as well as the fries 5/5. The scramble however missed the mark and again was lacking and could use some extra seasoning 3/5! We couldn't leave without trying a dessert-which is what saved the day! Along with fresh blueberry and Moroccan mint tea we sampled the carrot cake- while the servers mistakenly brought out the strawberry rhubarb crisp- while simultaneously forgetting a coffee we ordered. Both desserts were AMAZING! I'm glad they made this mistake! In terms of service we found it was overbearing and even annoying at times with waitstaff clearly not in sync with one another. At one point I put my spoon down- which I was using only to have a member of the waitstaff take it and my plate away before I had finished!!! Went there for a birthday celebration. Food was a 7/10. I got the baby lettuce salad (appetizer) and duck with dirty rice and cabbage greens (entree). Appetizer was okay but just too much going on. Foodie friends recommended this place for a good night out dinner in Houston. We started with cocktails in the bar while waiting for table. I had read that the Japanese yuzu whisky sour with a toasted star anise was good. I had to agree, it was quite tasty and my party went on to order several more. However, after a while, the server had to be asked to go find the last drink that wasn't delivered. Food service at the table started out kind of iffy, as our server really hadn't come to check on us for some time. We reached out to the manager who took our order, and then the level of service improved to our expectations of a trendy, modern space with creative food. And the food- we had apps of stuffed squash blossoms, and grilled octopus with a terrific sauce. Both were delicious. The lobster and chicken pot pie, a restaurant's signature dish was large enough for 2 to share. We also had pork chops and grouper with dirty rice, both recommended by staff, and quite yummy. We were celebrating an anniversary, so we had the baked Alaska dessert with fig sorbet and sauce. It was just the right size for a not-too-big portion for each of the 4 of us, and provided a fun flair and finish to the meal.
