The food is great, and pretty worth the price especially if you're getting a burrito the size of your forearm. tip:you can add French fries to your burrito for like $1 I have food allergies so I'm not able to eat dairy. 1st visit was fine. Your eyes will also be drawn to the very large and in-charge back wall that states "YOU'RE MY BOY BLUE". (For anyone who doesn't get the reference, please refer to the 2003 movie Old School where Will Ferrell gives a tribute to his friend Blue played by Patrick Cranshaw.) Located near Cal State Long Beach, Blue Burro offers quality food on a college student's budget. With a college campus nearby, I think Blue Burro is hitting the nail on the head with theming. If you are looking for somewhere to go to get a trendy picture for one of your several social media pages, this is it. Corrugated metal covered walls with paint and fun sayings is something every rising social media elite need for their feeds. I personally just like taking photos of my food in front of such walls. I've had the pleasure of trying breakfast, lunch and dinner at Blue Burro. Note: The menu is the same all day long. I just so happened to stop by during hours that fall into each category. Each meal had their ups and downs for different reasons. Let's start with breakfast. Probably the most disappointing meal I've had. Living in a city with so many options for breakfast, I don't think I would come back for breakfast again. I ordered the Breakfast Ham Burrito. It comes with ham, eggs, cheese and fries. I added sour cream to mine because I'm Caucasian and like my dairy products. With basic ingredients I was hoping for something spectacular and was left with half a burrito I didn't finish. I don't even recall actually getting any fries in it. My other half ordered the Carne Asada, Egg & Cheese Burrito. He added French fries because WHY NOT. This was much better but still far off from the other eateries in the city. We also tried the Strawberry Aguas Frescas, and this won the morning. Try this at least once it's worth it! Lunch and Dinner were definitely the wins for this burro. Quantity and quality win this category. The burritos are large, the fries are GINOURMOUS and the rolled tacos will be making me come back for sure. My husband and I have tried the following: Surf-N-Turf Burrito, Surf-N-Turf Fries, and an order of Rolled Tacos. The burritos are large and filled with Grilled Shrimp, Angus Steak, Romaine Lettuce, Salsa Fresca, Cotija Cheese and "Special Sauce." I believe the special sauce is just Chipotle Sauce but whatever it is, it is delicious!! (If you want extra, they have some near the salsa's!) The Surf-N-Turf fries are basically the same as the burrito just topped over fries. The fries are very sharable with another person. They are big and come with a lot of fries. Growing up my family would travel two towns over to get these delicious rolled tacos or "burritos" as they called them. They were basically rolled tortillas with a filling, but they were covered in cheese and this delicious red sauce. Blue Burro's Rolled Taco's bring the nostalgia back. These rolled taco's come covered in Romain Lettuce, Guacamole, Sour Cream, Cheese, Cotija Cheese and Salsa Fresca. You can get them in orders of 3 or 5. 5 was a perfect meal for me. I was able to wash it down with a Cucumber Pineapple Augas Fresca which is my so so good and very refreshing! In conclusion, these are just my opinions. Great first impression for me of this place. Breakfast burritos all day?? Sign me up!! Location: In a shopping center right on the corner of 7th and Bellflower Blvd. Across the street from VA in Long Beach. Heard about this place from IG and I was intrigued. Originally, I wanted to visit earlier in the day for breakfast, but decided I wanted a few more Z's and came in just before the lunch crowd hit. I opted for the Surf and Turf burrito. Just the right size (not too big, not too small) with a warm, soft flour tortilla with shrimp and steak, cheese, lettuce, salsa and their own sauce. I have to say, it all worked for me. Was I full afterward? Yes. Did I want to add a side? Not really as I was just full. My only issue was the cheese wasn't quite melted so I got hit with a shot of cold salt as a result. Eh, I can live with that. It all held together, so I didn't end up with 10 messy, sauce-covered fingers. I got the cucumber pineapple agua fresca mainly because the blue-ness of the horchata didn't appeal to me. The cucumber was the perfect choice. Next time, I'll get the pink strawberry one. Summary: I got to come back again when I get the chance and try their chips or fries. I hear the small size is a serious contender for making you full because of how big the portions are. Or even a shake. Considering how close it is to the VA and CSULB and being in a busy shopping Center next to a Target, I'm quite sure it'll be a hit with the college crowd and the hospital workers. This is a nice little spot smack dab inside of the plaza across from both CSULB and V.A. Hospital. Having been there a couple times, if have to say the food is pretty solid. I've had the stuff and tired burrito and the California burrito. Both are pretty good. I'm no expert on authentic Mexican costume, but I doubt this is authentic due to the two things I ordered. That being said, definitely a good spot to go if craving Mexican food. The price is what you'd expect from a store front located in prime location plaza. The customer service was good and workers are polite. If you want truly authentic Mexican food, is look elsewhere. But if you want Mexican flavors in a pinch, this is definitely better than Mexican fast food joints! read more

DO NOT ORDER CATERING FROM THEM- To be fair, I love this place but when it came to catering for our large party --- do not order from here. We catered approximately 40 breakfast burritos. I spoke to a manager 2 days prior and they assured me to place the order online and put in the notes the time of pick up that we agreed on over the phone, which was 8:50AM. The earliest time to order online was 9:15, but again after we spoke over the phone (twice) she told us 8:50AM was fine and just to write that time in the notes. Our party arrived to pick up the food at 8:50 and they hadn't even started making our order of 40 burritos. We waited 1 HOUR for our order to be completed. Today I called and spoke to "Cora" the manager. All I heard was excuses as to why they were late for our catering order. These are the excuses we heard: 1) We don't get online orders until 9am 2) you should have called (we called 2 times before we placed our online order as they assured us to order online) 3) we're short staffed When the food showed up you can imagine everyone was hungry. When we opened the boxes all of the burritos were not cut in half, which was the option we chose when ordering online. It's little things like this that the catering service should have taken care of. Unfortunately I will no longer call myself a repeat customer because of the lack of accountability, poor problem solving, and lack of attention to detail Cora and the staff at Blue Burro had. The manager Cora has poor customer service and did not once try to make it right with us or apologize. We are extremely disappointed. This is one of my new favorite spots in the Long Beach area. I've been many times and have tried various items from basically all sections of the menu. The service is always friendly and fast and the place is clean, so I'll just be going over various foods in this review. I'll start with my favorite: their breakfast burritos. For $5.75 you get an enormous breakfast burrito that is big enough for 2 people, at least for me and my friends. My favorite is the one with eggs, cheese, bacon, and fries. It's packed full of the good stuff. I like to squeeze lime over it and dip into their house sauce, which tastes like 1000 island with a slight kick. I've gotten the $4.50 mazapan shake a few times and think it's great. It has an almost nutty taste to it. It is pretty thin however but I like the taste enough to occasionally order it. I've tried the blue horchata and it's way too sweet for me unfortunately. If you like your horchata very sweet though this is the drink for you I've tried the fries as a side for $2.50 (outside breakfast burrito context) and don't like them in this scenario. It seems like they were recently frozen and they had no crisp or color to them at all. I've also tried the adobada tacos for $3.50 each. While they are very good, the pork being very juicy and tender, the price is odd to me. You can get similar tacos in the area for usually around 1.50 each if not cheaper. Not sure why they cost so much here. But I come here for the delectable and enormous breakfast burritos and occasionally a thin but delicious milkshake. I tried this place twice before writing this review and I concluded that this place meets my expectations. Both times I tried the Carne Asada Fries and both times they were served with enough guacamole and meat . This place is right across the street from CSULB and I have to say that it's the perfect location. Aside from their fries they also sell unique agua fresa. My husband decided to try their Cafe de Olla and he was impressed he's a coffee drinker so he's very picky about his coffee. This coffee is made with canela and the flavor is very apparent. I do have to say that it's slightly pricey, we paid $12 for large fries which feeds one guy. Maybe to others it might be regular price but I'm from San Diego and the average price for large fries is about $9. But reason being for not having branched out to other items is that I am OBSESSED with their surf and turf burrito. For the price point, it was pretty small considering chicken is a much cheaper cut (same size compared to my friend's carne asada burrito). Been coming here for around a year since moving to LB and the it's the best hidden gem I've found in the area. Food quality is excellent for the area & price, and portions are extremely generous. Seriously, for anyone complaining about the food, try to find groceries (let alone a restaurant entree) that can match what you pay for here in 2022. I've tried the Rolled tacos (easily the best I've had in SoCal, even compared to homemade or authentic places that charge $15+ since they take forever to make... I dream about this Salsa Fresca), Oreo shake (also the best Oreo shake I've ever had), Surf n Turf burrito (for $12!!), and carne fries (you could prob find better at other places since it's always on a menu somewhere, but still very solid here). All were great, and the condiments/sides/extras are all super fresh, the most important thing in Mexican food! Service is ok, nothing to write about but I've never had a terrible experience here either. Came during a lull on opening day, and we got the Cali Burrito, Surf'n'Turf Burrito, an Oblea Cajeta shake, and a drink (because we wanted to try the Blue Horchata and Agua de Fresa- which is off the hook! ) Both burritos were delish but I have to say, the Surf'n'Turf was my favorite, with just the right amounts of asada and shrimp. The shake was so good, I forgot to take a picture of it before I scarfed it down, but it is what it sounds like, a shake made with cajeta (like a Mexican caramel), with an oblea on the top! The agua de fresa is handmade and is so good that it has no business to be that delicious- it's like drinking dessert. We were in the area again today and stopped by to try the pollo asada fries- small, and like the burritos, the portion was generous and the food was delicious! Service on both visits was warm and inviting. They welcome you as you walk in and check in to see if you need anything as they walk by while you're eating. Was craving a breakfast burrito and didn't want to drive too far for it so decided to try Blue Burro. When I looked at their online website I liked that I could order takeout online instead of having to call. They had four types of breakfast burritos so I decided on a Carne Asada breakfast burrito and added fries and bacon. The burrito was ready when I arrived for pick up. The staff was super nice and greeted me when I walked in which always brightens up my day. Since it's Covid-19 I liked that the lady that handed me my bag with my burrito put on a fresh pair of gloves to give it to me and took the gloves after. She had added one of each type of salsa that they had in the bag and a menu and the bag was stapled shut. The burrito was actually pretty good! adding the fries and bacon was a plus and I would do that again . Next time I would add extra cheese because it still tasted a little dry.
