Honestly, the worst food I have had in awhile. The wait was way toooo long and it was overly priced for the quality. The wait was so long that they offered a free dessert but we were done eating the food there. I had the pork tenderloin, it was overcooked, my Brussel sprouts were hard and my sweet potato, was a plain mashed sweet potato, nothing fancy. My guest's plate was just a bad plate of spaghetti. Since this is the only restaurant available when staying at the resort, I highly recommend getting an appetizer and/or salad. read more

The ambiance and food selection is superb at the Blue Heron. The menu items are mostly locally sourced or grown on the property. They make many item in house. We had several selection over the weekend my favorite being the Caesar salad and the blueberry muffin French toast. The green Chile burger is the local favorite and won #1 burger contest. We had great service each time except at brunch there Sunday. They stop breakfast service at 10am Sunday and brunch starts at 11am. We had a newer waitress at brunch and with some further training and confidence she should be great. Water service on Sunday could have been a bit better. But I am a water service pet peeve kinda person. I think this is a amazing restaurant and Rocky, Sarah and Ben are doing an amazing job. Blue Heron was great! It's located hidden away in the outskirts of Santa Fe at the Ojo Resort. We were seated quickly and at a nice table overlooking the hot springs. Parking is easy and there is outside dining available. We both ordered mahi tacos and a glass of wine. Our appetizer was whipped feta with pita bread. Both absolutely delicious. Went to the Blue Heron Restaurant a few weeks ago which is part of Ojo Santa Fe Spa and Healing Waters The patio setting is beautiful overlooking a pond, trees, and greenery I had the bison burger which was delicious and cooked to perfection. It has caramelized onions, tomato, and mixed salad greens on it and it was served with fries. You also have the choice of truffle fries which I had never tried before but my friend had them and they were delicious! I would highly recommend Blue Heron Restaurant. read more

Had dinner last night at the Blue Heron, unfortunately the meal was disappointing. Truffle fries were just alright, the fish tacos were drenched in a really sweet sauce. I had the charcuterie, it consisted of a blue cheese ball that looked very unappetizing and sandwich meat, I'm guessing bologna and ham. I wanted to sit outside since its just so beautiful on the patio, I asked if they could send a text or if they had a buzzer to let me know when my table was ready and she said no. It's possible our experience was tainted by an outstanding dinner a couple of nights before at Antiquity in Albuquerque, but we were less than impressed. The service was pretty sub-par...if I am spending nearly $50 on a steak, I would expect the server to check on it within 5 minutes of its arrival. I would expect that when my margarita is finished, I would be asked if I would like another or something else to drink. I'm not a picky diner and I don't expect perfection, but fine-dining prices should be accompanied with fine-dining service. We were clearly finished for some time before we had to ask for the check - we weren't even offered dessert. I don't know if they were short staff or if there was some reason for the poor service, but it was not very good. The food was...fine. My buffalo New York strip steak was drowning in the cherry reduction. After scraping off the bulk of it, it complemented the meat pretty well, but the dish was nothing to write home about. My wife's flank steak was, again, fine. Our appetizer was...fine. Hence the three stars. Everything on the plate was just okay. Certainly not bad, but not $140 for two people. I was so ready to give this place a great rating. The property was beautiful and was showcased by a entire wall of windows looking out onto a lazy river and a picturesque bridge. The menu sounded great as well but unfortunately the food was lacking. Our appetizers were the only saving grace. We had the ceviche which was very authentic and delicious. It came in a giant goblet surrounded by tortilla chips and swimming in lime juice. We devoured most of it but we stopped ourselves to save room for the entrees. This is where those two stars were lost. We ordered the enchiladas and the steak. The steak was disturbingly tender for how overcooked it was and there was also a strange aftertaste. I'm unsure as to the reason, I suspect it was frozen and/or marinated in some sort of tenderizer for too long because flank shouldn't be that soft. Regardless it just wasn't a very good steak. That along with a measly TWO tortillas made that a very unsatisfying meal. The enchilada was just bland. Not much flavor other than the chile leaving me without much motivation to continue eating either dish. It goes without saying that we ended up back at the ceviche. If we had come here for just drinks and apps, I'm sure this review would be scored a lot higher. The food lacks integrity. The website claims that the restaurant is "incorporating the freshest ingredients from the Ojo Caliente Farm and local Southwest region". This is not at all what my experience was with the Green Chile Bison Burger. It was very obvious that the iceburg lettuce was not farm-fresh or locally-grown, nor was the tomato. The burger bun was soggy and squished, and did not taste like it was baked in-house. The worst part of the experience though was the condiments provided with my take-out order... ketchup and mayo that contained corn syrup and HFCS in the ingredients. They say the devil is in the details. Having worked in the restaurant industry myself, I know this is usually a sign that the rest of the ingredients are probably not held to a much higher standard of quality. For a health spa restaurant, I would be ashamed to serve anything that contains High Fructose Corn Syrup, especially when you're charging $20.00 for a burger. read more

If you are vegan, prepare to be perplexed!!! First the menu (online or paper) does not specify whether VG or V is vegan. When asking servers, you are likely to get different answers from each one, like we did! Let's start with breakfast: SW Tofu Scramble, marked VG. Presumably, this is vegan. If it is not, why would you serve a non vegan tofu scramble? But maybe it has butter...But then again for the Fruit Smoothie, it says V option. Not sure why you would need to specify that a smoothie has a V Option, unless V means vegan (for example to signify that it can be made without dairy milk or honey). Avocado toast: does not specify that it is vegetarian.... Or that it could be made vegan without cheese and eggs. Power toast has VG and clearly has honey- so that's not vegan, right? So is V vegan or VG vegan? Lunch: there is a Quinoa burger that specifies that it has non-dairy cheese and is listed as V so is this vegan? It would be very strange if a sandwich that went out of the way to have non-dairy cheese was in fact not vegan- does the patty have egg? Same for the BBQ jackfruit sandwich- marked V. Is it vegan? Or is there dairy in the slaw, or eggs in the GF bun? Why don't the fajitas have a VG or a V? Why doesn't the Pomodoro have a VG or a V or a V option. Dinner: Trifecta: this is listed as VG. When asked whether the guacamole had dairy in it, the answer was, no. Yet, all of the salads that are listed as VG clearly have cheese. Are these vegetarian, or can they be made vegan by simply holding the cheese? There is a Roasted Vegtable Chili Relleno listed on the paper menu as GF and V option, online it says GF, VG (V option) -- perhaps this is the Rosetta Stone.... Unfortunately, our waiter convinced us that VG was vegan so that this was not an option for us. We were also told the Chili Fries marked V had dairy in the breading, so this would contradict other menu items... Also, some items must be so clearly vegetarian that they are not marked, like Whipped Feta or Herbed Hummus. Can the hummus not be made vegan sans the feta? So shouldn't it have a V Option on the menu. Plant based eater, is your head spinning yet? Perhaps all of this confusion could be remedied by a separate plant-based menu... If you hold yourself out as catering to a plant based diet, please make the process is easier so those of us who don't consume animal products can get the rest and relaxation deserved at a spa rather than having to deal with deciphering a secret code while on vacation. I guess I will never know whether my dinner, breakfast or lunch were or were not vegan... three stars for the ambience and the delicious homemade chips. read more

We spent the day at the Ojo Santa Fe spa (where this restaurant is located) and it was the perfect way to finish up a time of rest and relaxation! It took around a half hour to get our food, so it would have been nice to get a bread basket or some other complimentary starter such as tortilla chips and salsa. Our server was kind and she checked up on us regularly. The food was delicious- especially the truffle fries and fajitas. Which leads me to my next point- portion sizes were much bigger than expected! The fajitas in particular come with a huge platter of sizzling meat that could have easily filled 6-8 fajitas (I believe 4 small tortillas were included). The Moon House Red Kiss cocktail was light and refreshing, but seemed to be lacking much alcohol so for $14, it's not one I'd recommend. The Stress Reliever cocktail was fine- it's not nearly as sweet as you'd expect when reading the ingredients shown on the menu. read more

Always sorry to leave this type of review. Tonight we drove to Blue Heron, to enjoy the beautiful evening and dine outside just past sundown. Quite surprised to see no one seated outside so we went to the maitre 'd station. Not enough employees to staff outside, but we could order there and take it down the flight of stairs ourselves. Not ideal, but we went ahead and ordered simple food and drinks. 20+ minutes. After 5 minutes on the patio, the mosquitos were out in force. Up we went. Can we dine inside, instead? No, a firm voice told us. And given some ridiculous non-understandable story on why. We kept our cool and attempted to persuade her. Nope. We informed her unless we could, we'd have to cancel. She "won" the battle. We left very irritated and hungry. Very poor customer service skills. A negative experience, described as kindly as possible. The views of the grounds are gorgeous and while we were hoping to have a more relaxing time at the spa, it was nice to finish off with a dinner experience at the spa. The restaurant is quaint and intimate. The tables were spaced out for social distancing. The staff was friendly but you can see them stumbling over the specials not just at our table but also stating them to the other tables. While we enjoyed our food, for the price, I was expecting more of stellar service and food quality. But I'm glad we spent our evening and enjoyed the grounds. It was nice seeing people out and about again. If you go, make sure you make reservations and grab a window seat facing the natural pools. There's indoor and outdoor seating and seemed to have been fully booked by the time we left dinner. read more

Pretty close to 5 star place. We started brunch with mimosas. Both good but I had the prickly pear version -- very good! I had the lobster roll with hash browns and wife had grits & shrimp. She got the best of that with a flavorful blend while I got a rather bland lobster salad. The strong dessert coffee put some hair on my chest. Presentation on the chocolate truffle was great but might not have been today fresh. Service was good and we didn't have any issues. We had dinner last night here, as we were staying at the resort. It was mediocre. First, the seating inside was a bit peculiar- the two top had us sitting very far apart, so we turned the table to get a bit closer so we could actually hear each other. For the price we paid and the convenience, I'm not sure it was not worth it. We both had the pork and it was poorly seasoned. The vegetables were nothing memorable and the salad was just fair. The poblano fries were good, however, and that was the best part of the meal. Service was poor - our waitress hardly checked on us, no water refills, no wine refills, barely a peep out of her. At the end of our main course she asked if there was anything else and promptly produced the check - I had to ask for a desert menu and it was pretty blah - so we skipped it anyway. Disappointed with lunch but had a terrible breakfast! TL;DR Painfully Slow Service, Order does not fully arrive with the rest of the meal, and coffee comes after you eat. If you're staying at the resort, I recommend driving into Santa Fe. I ate lunch here yesterday, and the service was extremely slow. We only ordered two appetizers, so they should not have been as slow as they were. The food and drinks were good. It didn't dull the excitement of the vacation. I went this morning for breakfast, and I don't think I have ever had a more negative experience from walking in the door. We walked in 20 minutes before closing for an hour, and the staff checked their watches and then escorted us to our table. We sit down and place water orders. When the waiter finally arrived, we put our entire breakfast order in because of the time: 2 Coffee's, 2 breakfast cocktails, and 2 breakfast entrees. One of the breakfast cocktails, a mimosa, came promptly, but the other cocktail, a Bloody Mary, was nowhere to be found. Our plates with our first water refill arrive after their 11am closing time. They forgot our toast and brought regular sausage when we asked for vegetarian. They also gave us a plain bagel and lox when we asked for an everything bagel and lox. We asked for ketchup, salt and pepper and the missing toast after they sat everything down. The bagel and lox they set down were meant for another table, so they took it away and replaced it with the correct bagel. I thought like the rest of the experience they were just absent minded and made it with the wrong bagel. We asked if the sausage was vegetarian, and they brushed it off with a lack of reassurance that we ended up not eating it. We were about halfway through the meal when finally our coffee arrived! The first entree which had the toast was finished when the ketchup, salt an pepper arrive. They ask if we need anything else and we cancel the bloody Mary order. We ask for the check. The toast finally makes it to the table, which we send back because we are just ready to go. When the waiter came with the check he asked if something was wrong with the toast and we let him know it came after everything and we were done. After we left the breakfast we went to the hotel lobby and cancelled our breakfast reservation for the next day. Driving the 20 minutes into Santa Fe where your more likely to get a quality meal and service. Ojo Santa Fe has done so many improvements to their hot spring resort since last year that they are worth the visit. However, the blue heron is a dark spot on the excellent resort. I would almost recommend they close the restaurant and turn it into a quick service (if that is possible for them) spot where you grab and go premade food boxes. read more

Staying at the resort and was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant on the grounds. Outstanding dinner after a long relaxing soak in the hot tub. Beautiful setting and excellent service. I had the Sea Bass served with a perfectly prepared mushroom and zucchini risotto. The fish was so good! We shared a Caesar salad and mushroom fritters- both top notch appetizers. I ate here several times as we were guests at the resort and it was the only sit down option. My first night I ordered the enchiladas and I was majorly disappointed. Like many New Mexican dishes it was served with green chili. I asked for chicken in my enchiladas as this was given as an option from our waiter. I later found that they charged me $10 for chicken which I think is ridiculous! If you do not like spicy food then I would get accustomed to asking for chili on the side as this is a popular staple with many dishes. The tortillas in the enchiladas did not appear to be cooked well and over all I did not like the dish. Later that trip I tried the Lox Bagel and blue corn pancakes. The pancakes were earthier than I like and they were served with some sort of berry sauce. For those who do not like the overly sweetness of pancakes this dish may be for you. The Lox bagel was enjoyable but nothing special. They did serve it with a hearty serving of salmon which I enjoyed. Lastly, the coffee was awful. I was really disappointed in the food here but my friends said that I just had bad luck with my orders because they seemed to enjoy their food. read more

The charcuterie board was extremely yummy. The array of cheeses, meats, and grilled veg was perfect. The entrees were much less so. I got the sea bass. I would not say it is worth anywhere near what I paid for it. The risotto was smothered in so much butter. My partner got the wagyu. We love wagyu. This was very bland. It was not cooked to request. My husband and I stayed at the resort and our breakfast was included! The restaurant is very beautiful and simple inside and has a patio the over looks the lake. For breakfast we suggest the breakfast burrito, along with the blue berry French toast. You will not regret it! Everything was fresh and not greasy at all. You also were able to go up and get fresh fruit. For dinner, I had the beef tips with mashed potatoes. My husband had the lamb, but wasn't a big fan of it. We were able to buy a bottle of wine also. We stayed at the resort and didn't have a rental car, Uber/Lyft is impossible to get, so this was our only option. Each time we ate here, we waited at least 10 minutes to even put a drinks order in. One of the mornings, we came here for breakfast. We both ordered quiche of the day and it took an hour to get to our table. Had we known that the quiche was likely not prepared (or had we known it would take an hour to get our food), we would have loved the opportunity to order something else on the menu. I can be skeptical about restaurants that are at a resort that you pretty much have to eat at. All I can tell you is this restaurant does not disappoint! Whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner all meals I have tried, vegan, gluten-free, regular they are all phenomenal. The resort has a garden and greenhouse and they grow a lot of the greens and veggies so you are getting very fresh food at every meal. They source a lot of local food products and they put a delicious twist on New Mexican favorites. The view from the restaurant is breathtaking and service is usually great. They are open to non-guests as well. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to The Blue Heron. read more
