I came in on a Sunday night at 9 PM with my puppy who was vomiting, had diarrhea all day, and hadn't eaten anything for 24 hours. We were put into a waiting room as soon as we arrived. At 10:40 PM, it was time to leave. Not enough vets on staff at this time to treat sick animals. If you're going to charge $185 for the base visit alone, you should at least make it a point to see emergency patients within a certain time frame. read more

From the moment they hospitalized my pup to the moment she was discharged, the staff always kept me informed, the doctor always called at least once a day with updates (usually twice), they were transparent about costs, and the nursing staff - THE NURSING STAFF - they are the life of this place. Meredith is lovely, you can tell she actually cares deeply about each case she's treating, Kim always remembered my name, and the tech who did our intake was so comforting the night I came in. This is a hard review to write.....Sugar my beloved Maltese passed away here in September. I brought her here after West Chelsea Vet. recommended I should when she did not respond to treatment there. She had a heart murmur that lead to congestive heart failure. The cost here for 3 days of treatment was $6,000! The doctors were smart and seemingly caring, but knowing they could not get her better felt like a ripoff. The first two nights there was one doctor and the last night another. She did not respond to two days of treatment yet I was told to let them try one more day- unfortunately that means $2,000 more. I was left without being there for the end because her heart gave out and not giving a proper burial to a dog I had for 11 1/2 years because of the exhorbitant cost of her end of life. Bottom line: BluePearl gave our lil pup excellent care in a very stressful situation when she broke her elbow. Her doctor and nurses/assistants were great, top notch. We did feel the front office staff did not come across as caring, empathetic, or positive in attitude however in our dealings there. But for excellent care and results, we are glad BluePearl was there when we needed them. The Deets: When we got our new little French bulldog puppy, we were so happy and excited. However just a mere few days after she comes into our lives, she had an accident resulting in a pretty bad elbow fracture. Our regular vet office (who we love) said they have a referral setup with BluePearl for these type of trauma situations and had already gotten everything set up for her to be taken in there for orthopedic surgery. The process was practically seamless and they took us in when we arrived in around an hour. The nurses, assistants, and Dr. Greenberg (her surgeon) all came in to evaluate our pup within a very reasonable amount of time and gave us all the information needed for them to proceed to help our little girl out. She would need a plate and pin for this type of fracture but she would be cast free and would heal quickly...we were very thankful for Dr. Greenberg's straight forward but caring delivery of the information so we knew our situation and options, very professional. The financial estimate the business staff gave was fairly accurate, and yes I did have to pay up front for an amount between the lowest/highest estimated price before service could be provided. Our pup was taken in within an hour and then within 4 hours we got the word from her doctor that she did amazing well with surgery and she was recovering nicely. The nursing staff for her overnight stay were so wonderful and very helpful upon her discharge. Dr. Greenberg himself also would call personally the first few days to check on his little patient's progress, we liked that very much. This experience would be a true 5 star experience but there were some staff at the front desk that were not as empathetic or sympathetic when going through the business process of it. I realize this side of it is the business side but the people skills did not come through as one would hope when dealing with this type of situation. Being in healthcare myself, I realize compassion/positive attitude goes a long way. In this one area, we did feel let down but however in our pup's care, treatment, and results is where BluePearl did shine. I am glad Dr. Greenberg, the nurses and assistant staff were there for us where we needed them...it is greatly appreciated! read more

Recommended euthanasia for a 4-year-old dog in acute liver failure with no discussion of options. This was despite our dog being in a terrific mood, eating and drinking, and having plenty of energy - which continues more than a week after we took her home against their recommendations. The approach lacked basic humanity or any consideration for the impact on our family. Covid-19 restrictions are also draconian and not consistent with other veterinary services across the city - we were told the only way we could see our dog is if we agreed to euthanize. Their billing operation is superbly run, however, and they are very careful to bill for every penny and ensure payment is collected in advance of any service delivered ( more than $4000/day). read more

My eleven year old yorkie was vomiting profusely and needed some help. I needed reassurance. Blue Pearl was recommended by a friend, so I called. They told me I could bring him in right away, which I did. We were seen almost immediately by a kind technician who took his vitals and petted him gently, reassuring him, and me, that everything would be alright. The veterinarian came in shortly thereafter and examined him. He explained the options, potential problems and possible ramifications of different treatments. I was given alternative treatment and payment possibilities. After further examining and treating him, delivering medications according to my wishes, Spike was released to my care. He is doing well today and I am grateful for the professionalism, kindness and swift treatment Spike and I received from Blue Pearl. If YOUR company truly made a mistake and quoted us the wrong amount why no phone call about a balance due or a letter right at the time ? Dr. Jill Abraham, is a highly knowledgeable, kind and compassionate dermatological veterinarian. She treated my 120lb mastiff for multiple skin issues. She's also very responsive during urgent situations. The Midtown location is very clean and the staff is friendly. They had complimentary snacks and water at the front desk (for people). Overall, it was a great experience for us. They put my anxious dog in a room right away to give him the space and quiet he needed to successfully get through the exam. The wait time was also less than five minutes. And at the end of the appointment, their staff will even submit your bill to your pet insurance on your behalf. I'm used to going to AMC Hospital where you wait at least 45 minutes for a scheduled appointment, they talk down to pet owners, nickel and dime you to death with surprise extras after an exam and you're lucky if you even get to have a conversation with a specialist, usually AMC will have a student vet bring your pet to the specialist and have the student vet relay the diagnosis. You make an appointment and spend a fortune just to see a specialist and they won't even come out to talk to you for 30 seconds. My former experiences with AMC pale in comparison to Blue Pearl. They should take a lesson in how to treat pet owners with decency and courtesy from the veterinarians and staff at Blue pearl. This is my new "go to" animal hospital from now on. Not recommended, stay away from this Hospital SHAME SHAME SHAME to Dr. butcher Pooja Rathore. On February 9, 2021, my puppy during a routine check up had an emergency. Was told to bring him to the emergency hospital so I brought him here. Dr. Pooja Rathore checked on him and said that our 5 month old English bulldog needs to stay overnight for oxygen and other tests. I asked her how much will all this cost to keep him overnight, she said she will email with estimate. After 15 minutes I received the email the estimate was over $7000. I said, WOW! is too much we can't afford and we don't have pet insurance yet, and we want our puppy to take him home. She started to scare us that the puppy will die suffocating himself and he need to stay in Hospital for oxygen and that it was inhumane to do this to him. If we can't afford it, we should put him down instead of taking him home. I told her that is a lot of money and I asked her if there any plan so I can afford to keep him in the Hospital. She said that is no plan and I need to pay in front and he needs oxygen. My partner asked her that maybe he is having an allergic reaction and if she can give him some antihistamine. She refused. Than I asked her that is a lot of money and if she can keep him for an hour more in oxygen and to see how is feeling. Again she refused mentioning again that he needs to stay in the emergency Hospital. Than I told her that I need the puppy right a way without any other discussing. After I signed the discharge, I paid $85 ( I don't know why we paid). The following day, he was fine with no problems. He didn't suffocate or die like how Dr. Rathore said he would. SHAME SHAME SHAME to this butcher doctor who are looking only for money. No one from Blue Pearl called to see how our puppy is doing, because they knew he will be fine. This vet hospital particularly Dr Farrelly an oncologist let my dog die one year ago. If he had shown Just a little kindness and diligence I am sure my dog would still be with me. But he did not. No follow up and just did not care enough to say hey let's do a follow up in a month or another ultrasound-- nothing. My dog was put down two months later for metasis and internal bleeding. She died like this and it's unforgivable. You place your trust in these people and I don't think they are trained well or perhaps since it's Animals they feel they are not accountable? Well they are and more and more people will start suing these places and they will start to pay attention because it will hit them where it counts. read more

If I have to recommend an 24/7 emergency vet hospital I have to recommend Animal Medical Center on E 62nd street. The place may not look as nice but you get high quality pet care without feeling though you are being swindled of money. It was Labor Day weekend (of course) and my cat developed a urethral blockage. I recently moved to the UWS so I figured we would try this place (I have use AMC in the past when I lived on the UES). We had an okay experience. I was a little taken back that my cat was whisked away downstairs and I could not stay with him. The vet was very professional but I was still weary. I had to leave him overnight. The receptionist (I wish I got her name) was very rude. I paid what I owed and left. It was a lot but I would not upset about that. It was an emergency and hopefully don't have to go through this again. The next evening when I came to pick up my cat, the same receptionist told me I had another $500 charge to pay. I received an itemized bill and asked what the cost was for. She told me that since my cat was there over 24 hours I had to pay another 1/2 day's worth of the hospitalization. I had dropped him off at 6pm and was now picking him up at 8pm. 2 hour difference! I had told the vet to expect me then because I couldn't get out of work early. No where did anyone tell me about this 24 hour policy. I almost wanted to leave and tell them to expect me in 10 hours.... At least get what I paid for.... My cat seems okay now... He's a little traumatized by the experience but I think it's expected. I will watch him like a hawk. I am really not thrilled with the experience. God forbid this happens again, I will go the extra distance to AMC. I will not go back there! Lesson learned! read more

There seems to be a common theme with this group overall -- false advertising of services truly provided. BluePearl touts being 24/7 but this is only true of their Midtown and Brooklyn locations. The problem is that if you are truly having an emergency, their Midtown location is always at capacity and they will ask you to go to an entirely different group. My dog was showing signs of throat obstruction (someone else had even reviewed their dog died from choking when attempting to seek help here but was turned away due to capacity issues); seems there is a pattern. Don't waste your time trying to get a slot here, go to another facility that can actually handle 24/7 emergency care. We ended up going to 'Veterinary Emergency Group' with no wait time. read more

The doctors there, especially Dr. Jeffrey Ganus and Dr.Olivia Nathanson, were very helpful and patient in explaining what happening and their recommended course of action. This location has HORRIBLE customer service at their front desk. I called three days in a row to refill pain meds for my dog who has cancer and they could not figure out how to call CVS to refill the prescription. They didn't seem to have trouble filling it the firs time. They blamed CVS for not answering their phone but they had no record of me calling 3 times/days in a row to get the prescription refilled. After spending on hold for 45 min with CVS I finally found out they never spoke to anyone about refilling the prescription. Now I have to pick the meds from another one of their locations that is closer to me (in Queens) but still a 20 minute drive away from where I live and pay 4 times as much at I would have paid at CVS because of their incompetence. It is ridiculous how bad these people are at their jobs when they are caring for the welfare of our beloved pets. The vets themselves are great (why I gave 2 stars) but the front desk staff are horrendous. I have been to two locations of Blue Pearl and the other location in Forrest Hills is sooooo much better, but my dog has cancer and the only specialist is located at this location in midtown. They even have more staff at their midtown location than Forrest Hills, and the still can't figure out how to do their jobs. They need to do better training and have more compassionate and efficient people working there. Our pets lives depends on their efficiency and when they are inefficient, our pets suffer! read more

Amazing Service! Every staff member I interacted with was compassionate, and extremely pet friendly. I was taken to a room and offered coffee or water and snacks. The treatment room included a phone charger. The nurse arrived and was more knowledgeable than our family vet who we saw the day prior. My dog arrived in obvious significant pain, and was attended to in a very reasonable time (especially since this is an emergency hospital). My dog was taken downstairs and a nurse came back to ask if it was OK to administer IV methadone due to the severity of the pain. After the exam, the vet arrived and discussed the treatment and meds needed. At no time did I feel rushed during the consultation. When I arrived home, they had emailed me a very detailed summary of the visit and treatment needed. I am a doctor and I was very impressed with all aspects of the visit - greeter, clinical staff and emergency vet. I hope you never need emergency care for your pet, but if you do, I cannot recommend this office highly enough! read more

I brought my cat Lucy to Blue Pearl September of 2022 when the vet spotted something on an x-ray that indicated Lucy had something in her lower intestine. She had been vomiting and was also diagnosed with the beginning stages of kidney failure. In hindsight, she was 16 1/2 years old, but it was hard to face that the end was near. The people at Blue Pearl were nice to me and Lucy, and they kept her overnight to observe and do various testing on her. They did not give me a definite diagnosis, but told me that I could pick her up the next afternoon. I had four or five prescriptions that Lucy had to take. Yes, it was expensive, but if I didn't bring her there I would have wondered for the rest of my life if I could have done more to save her. Lucy only lasted a week when I had to bring her back to my vet to put her to sleep. I am not sure if I would ever bring a pet that was that sick to Blue Pearl or any emergency room, but hindsight is always 20/20 and you are acting on pure emotion during times like this. And you always hope for a miracle. In truth, I have no bad feelings about Blue Pearl. They did their best. It was Lucy's time to go unfortunately. read more

Blue Pearl provided excellent service. My senior kitty with chronic kidney disease was having severe mouth pain and struggling to eat. I took her in around 8pm on a Thursday. They were starting the new shift, so we had to wait a bit. the staff offered us snacks and water. We didn't have to wait in the lobby, they got us a room with privacy right away. This was nice because I could play some soft music for my little old girl and get her anxiety down. Turns out she had a mouth ulcer, so she just needed some pain meds and a mouthwash. Worst Vet Experience I have ever had. Misdiagnosed my Cat, Told me it was Diabeties, kept him there for a week until I told them I wanted to get him out and transfer him to a less expensive Vet. They Called me in the middle of the night and said he needed Blood transfusions, They gave him all kinds of Insulin, and God knows what else. It turns out he had a dislocated Hip. They said they called the Vet I wanted to take him to and they told me they had no surgeon available , so they had to do the surgery!! The dislocated hip was why he couldn't walk, and why I took him in initially! Not Diabeties!They said he wouldn't eat while there, Gave him food in a tube. When I brought him home he ate right away, and went right back to the same small dose of insulin he had before he went. It is 3 years later and he is fine. All to the tune of $13,000. They fought me when I asked to be compensated from their mistake. They wouldn't reduce the bill at all. They have Lawyers that called me and harassed me. They threatened to ruin my credit if I didn't pay the full amount. They are evil, and greedy, and corrupt. They are owned by the M&M's family. And affiliated with the Vets in PETSMART. I have heard many horror stories, like my neighbor who took his Dog there and the Dog went Blind after they did Cataract Surgery. And worse stories. NEVER GO TO BLUE PEARL!!! read more

I have only good things to say after my first experience there with a sick dog. There was no wait (which was surprising since all the vets we called were completely booked up), we were immediately put into a private room where a nurse came very quickly to assess my pet and what was causing his symptoms. The vet who saw him called me twice from the exam room to give me an update on the tests he would be performing and again on the results and his assessment, and I left with medication and a detailed treatment plan in place. I didn't know what to do and blue pearl was the only place in town that would see her right away. They were incredibly careful with covid procedures. they explained everything they were doing and all the potential issues my dog was having. we ended up having to put our Dog down. We were so devastated and I couldn't process what was happening. Audrey was so helpful and responsive to my feelings while remaining calm and keeping me informed. she called my dog by her name and helped me make the right decision. not only was she kind to my dog but I can not stress how much she showed empathy and compassion towards me and my sick pet. they also wrote an incredibly moving note expressing condolences that wasn't just a form letter. It made me so happy that my dog was in such good hands and the end. if I ever get a dog again I will absolutely go here. Agree with some of these negative reviews. They're good at guilting you into spending a ton of money on your pet. Also, be aware of an obsession to track referring doctors - smacks of kickbacks. Some former veterinarians say to look for possible padding of the bill with unnecessary shots, tests and procedures. It seems there's a need for regulatory intervention here. When speaking to the manager about the issues I was told that I MADE NO SENSE and that it was MY WORD AGAINST THEIR DOCTOR'S. So much for the customer service. The clinic misleads about pricing. Over the phone I was told that the visit would cost $210, however, it turned out to be $420. The stuff didn't answer my questions and did not give me the final price before actually performing the procedure even though was specifically asked to do so. Furthermore, I received a email with the report that stated that some issues were discussed, whilst the doctor never stated any of it. As hard as a loss it is, we know the medical staff gave it everything they had to revive our beloved dog, but it was just his time. Thank you to the medical staff for all you have done. And now for the administrative staff. I understand you have a job to do and can't fault you for that. But one, the fact that you called me knowing that my dog was on his way out and asking me for payment for him to receive his treatment, or a deposit at minimum, are you joking? You really called me to say that you didn't flag me down on time to receive payment? WOW. Second, knowing that we had to make a hard decision to put our dog down, and the fact that you CHARGED us for crematory services without our authorization when we asked for a minute to think about. Thats just utterly distasteful. The people trying to enforce these ridiculous practices are doing their job, and this is a direct result of poor leadership. I couldn't believe as I was grieving the loss of my dog that I got hounded by your staff for payment. Unacceptable, distasteful and just outright wrong. Dr. Jill Abraham (pet dermatologist) is by far the best vet my dog has seen. Not only is she highly skilled and educated, she knows exactly where to look and what to do. After taking my dog to 3 other vets who couldn't diagnose him properly, she took skin samples and right there in 10 min had results. Finally, my dog is getting the correct treatment. She is also so kind and truly care about pets and per owners. My dog was so comfortable with her, no shakes, rattles, or rolls and zero stress. Last week...Called and said I would be coming within 2 hours for my cat who was vomiting blood. Three took all my info and details. Called again and said I was 15 mins away. They said they needed my info. I said you took it already. They claimed they didn't have it in their system. Once there they tell me it's a few hours wait!?!? Waited for over 5 hours. They finally came in and took my cat and then the interaction with the vet was by PHONE! The vet called me and that was how we communicated. Never came into the room. $700 later they sent us home after a shot to help my cat with nausea and to advise if she gets better or worse. They never once followed up to see how she was. She was better for a few days and then the vomiting started again. I walked over to their office to see what the next steps were and they said I would have to bring her back in and call when I was coming back. I went home, put my cat in the carrier, started walking over, and called them to say I would be a few minutes away. They told me don't come because they are too busy latest and vomiting isn't considered an emergency. They told me to go to another hospital. Really a horrible place and horrid care and service. I would NEVER go back to this place again and recommend everyone stay clear. read more
