She talked with us for a long time and by the time we left I felt as if we really made a friend. She shared her life with us as we did the same and she made us a "wedding cake" shot. We stopped in for lunch, and I have to say that the shrimp and grits were phenomenal. I was glad we got the early as the dining area is intimate, our server was pleasant and on top of things the entire time. Definitely start with the she crab soup, it is perfect. Visiting for the evening and walked by this place. Glad we came upon it and got to experience the food and service. We ate the wahoo jerk, stuffed shrimp, shrimp and grits and a burger. To start off we had the crab sherry soup! EVERYTHING WAS AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!!! Not one bad thing about the food can be said. We made reservations and actually arrived early. The hostess seated us without hesitation. Too bad she couldn't be our server as well because the server assigned to our table was horrifically rude. His name is PATRICK and he set a terrible tone for the remainder of our visit at this restaurant. I politely asked him if their Peach Bellini was more dry or sparkling and he looked at me like I was an idiot and said "ok...". Confused I asked him what that meant and he continued to stare at me like I had asked him something insulting. He should have answered the question because we sent it back. It was terrible. So was the Mimosa I ordered. The only good thing about this place was the filet mignon and that sweet little hostess. She apparently saw our table looking irritated and came to check on us. She refilled our drinks and brought a little happy back. Then Patrick showed back up and after passing by our table to check on us, he brought a tray full of drinks back and spilled it on a member of another table. Everyone has bad nights but this guy continued with his terrible attitude. I usually leave 30%+ but this guy didn't get close to that. My party (of 4) was so polite and he went out of his way to be demeaning and disrespectful to us. They only had ONE fresh veggie to choose from which was "snow peas" and were cold when served. Terrible experience and we will never return to this place. Later that night, the manager (Mody) called to see how our visit went because I left a note on the receipt. We explained the situation and he just apologized and asked us to come back with no mention of complimentary menu items, and please note we spent a SIGNIFICANT amount of money here. we were looking for a different restaurant that we'd remembered on our last trip to Savannah. there were 6 of us and we walked the length of River street trying to find it. I really wanted the shrimp & grits plate that they had. I guess we were all to tipsy to really remember the place so we settled on Boar's head. It was crowded but after a few minute wait, the staff fixed us tables so all 6 of us could sit together. Great menu and lots of wine choices. They were very gracious. Our first night in Savannah we stopped in for an early dinner and we were not disappointed. There was no wait, but im assuming it gets quite busy since the hostess asked if we had reservations. We started with the fried Green tomatoes w/ goat cheese and balsamic glaze. They were wonderful. My son had a bacon cheddar burger and I had the spinach and grilled chicken salad. When we arrived, the restaurant was practically empty. However, we were sat at a table for two where I was facing the kitchen and my husband was facing the river. That was my first disappointment. The tables in front of the window were tables for more than two and if they were busy, I could understand not getting one of those tables. Our waitress was very nice. I ordered a cup of the crab soup which was so thick I couldn't eat it. I also ordered the steak and crab cake. I must say, the steak was delicious. The crab cake was a big disappointment. My husband's steak was great too. The veggie of the day was pea pods which is not something I can eat so I ordered a side of asparagus but that never came?? Showed up late on a Sunday night and both the service and the food were outstanding. I had the boars head burger ($11+$2 for the cheddar). It was great, not the best I've ever had but it must have been pretty good if I'm not complaining about paying $13 for a cheeseburger. My friend had the Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken & Prosciutto ($19) and she loved it. All in all an excellent dining experience. Great view of the river, great food and great service. read more

Best crab cake I've ever had and I've had a few. We were a little short on time and the wait staff advised us accurately on how much time it would take and had us on our way in plenty of time. This place was fantastic! Had the Ham and bean soup, tasty and rich. My wife had the fried green tomatoes which were tart and crisp, great cornmeal batter. For entrees we had the ribeye (excellent) and the shrimp and grits - and THAT is the headline. Shrimp and grits was the best I've ever had - amazing cheese grits, fluffy and sweet with andouille sausage and a dozen shrimp. Well prepared and filling - best in class. Can't believe this place is so good - it is so well located that they could get away with less. Only knock was serving time - three large groups made things a little long, but worth it. This was kind of a find for my husband and I - among all the touristy eateries on River St., we took a chance in this somewhat pricier and kess crowded restaurant toward the end of the line. We were glad we did! I really enjoyed the crab bisque, perfectly cooked and tasty barbecue shrimp and Caesar salad. My husband's steak was a very good piece of meat and also cooked exactly right. Good: a traditional menu (For the area) is a crowd pleaser, food is good, service was great. We were celebrating a birthday and they were very welcoming and accommodating. Some areas have a view of the waterfront area, which was great! Ehh: Prices are a little more than $$... maybe more like $$-and-a-half or $$$ or something. There is no changing table of any kind on site (this is a big issue if you have kids, especially in such a touristy area), so your kid will have to sit in their own YUCK through dinner, or you can clear the table and change them there (j/k). I guess they don't care. To be honest, this issue is the reason I docked them from 4 to 3 stars.- not having a changing table is really gross. read more

We took some out of town guests during restaurant week this year. It smelled foul, the bread was burnt, and the food was very disappointing. The sweet potato mash and greens were cold and the tenderloin had no flavor. The server was attentive. Savannah has many other restaurants with better food for the price. Absolutely perfect find. Such history in the building which is an old cotton factory. The wine was delicious and my stuffed shrimp was so good. Our wonderful waiter Edward let me have my stuffed shrimp even though we were a little early for the dinner menu. He answered all my questions and sought the answer for me when he didn't know.My husband had a hamburger and his fries were perfectly cooked. He also loved the dip that came with them. Ehhh. Ambience was old, food was semi-tasty. Service was good, but not great. Priced too high all in all. Atmosphere was a stuffy nautical theme that felt dusty. Tonight I had the pleasure of having the double lamb shanks. They were delicious. Cooked a perfect medium rare, delicious sauce to go along. My wife had the crab stuffed tilapia with garlic mash potatoes. We didn't talk much, and when we're done both are plates were completely bare (besides my bones). I guess that is a good sign of a good meal. I only wish that it wasn't quite so pricey so I could go more. I look forward to trying a sandwhich for lunch. They seem reasonable at around 9 to 13 dollars. Not much more I can add. The waiter was nice and competent. The place wasn't busy yet as we went for an early dinner. My wife and I ate dinner. We had reservations and we instantly seated at a window seat. The building is historic and a little rough. The service was excellent. The manager came by the table too. We both ordered the Low Country Bouillabaisse. The French dish included Mahi Mahi, local claims and shrimp. This restaurant had great seasoning perfecting a dish most restaurants fail at. We also order key lime pie that appeared to be made there and was as good as I have eaten anywhere. read more
