Well where do I start, my wife and I came to this restuarant on its reputation and a gift certificate. We live much further west than I would have driven to come to this restuarant. We were there to celebrate our Anniversary. I called a week in advance. Made the reservation and also told them I had a gift certificate. They asked if it was a card gift certificate, I said iys paper. They said great its fine. We accept this. Low and behold we get there and sit down. I ask the waitress if the gift certificate is ok and she says let me check. It was not after I asked on the phone. They would not honor the certificate. I was incensed to say the least. I was not looking to spend 60$ on a steak. Very disapointed by the place. The hostess felt bad and said she would buy us drinks and did not in the end. 75$ for a beer and 2 burgers. We came here for dinner with our family, the service was horrible! I think our waiter forgot to put our meal in. My water glass sat empty for most of the night, I had to flag someone down to refill it. When our meal finally arrived after about 45 minutes of waiting, my husbands steak was really over cooked. We again had flag down our waiter and he agreed that my husbands steak was over cooked and the waiter replied "I can get you another steak if you like but it might take a while because our kitchen is really busy!" (Totally awful response if you ask me!). Then asked my husband if could just eat it. At this point we were so frustrated that we just kept the steak! If you are paying over $50 a plate then your food should be prepared correctly! Then the waiter preceded to take my husbands half empty drink glass without offering a refill! I used to love going to this place. I have been in the Hamptons for over 40 years. Lunch was always superb. Unfortunately for the past year their food has been mediocre at best. The service is very spotty and I have to say at times it feels like the food has been sitting there since the day before and they just put it on a plate and give it to you. I don't really know how long they can stay in business with such bad food and such inadequate service. Went to Dinner at Bobby Van's Restaurant for my Dads 50th birthday. This was my first $18.00 hamburger I have had and I must say... it was good very good. Not sure that it was worth $18.00 but the atmosphere helped to justified it and in this area as I understand it that is the kind of money you need to spend to go out and get a meal. There was a fixed menu... think it was like $25.00 for one appetizer, entree and desert. read more

I ate here over a year ago and forgot to write a review. Unfortunately, I don't remember what I had exactly, but I remember thinking that it was a lot more exceptional than some of the reviews on here. It took me some time to get seated in the slow later evening, and I had to hunt down an host. But once seated, I had a great experience. Just goes to show you that a warm greeting and attentiveness are what is memorable. Sometimes even great food isn't. This review is just for their lunch. They have a great menu, with items from omelettes to pasta dishes, and they're always great. I personally love the grilled calamari salad... Gone down hill fast. Service is spotty at best and a $60 steak came out waaay over cooked. Took us 15 minutes to flag our server over to send it back. Came back waaaayyy undercooked instead and boyfriend said it just didn't taste right. So disappointing. Not to mention our server left every empty glass on our table clogging it up and never came back to offer us more water or ask if we wanted another drink. read more

OK, five of us went to Bobby Van.s last night...things can happen...first the food and drink...so ok the lobster bisque was scorched and the creamed spinach was salty. Two in the party asked for sambucca after dinner were charged for the price for something that was NOT sambucca. Mistakes can happen and it could have been forgiven but all night long, our waiter, Jeff seemed as if he could not be bothered. We are not quite sure why he treated us with such indifference and we do not even want to make assumptions; but the service was awful and when you spend the money we spent it would seem it would have been better. Wait, even if we spent $10.00 we should have been treated with the type of consideration that warrants courtesy since we spending money in the restaurant. Each time I end up in the hamptons area, i end up at bobby Vans. I find it comical that Bobby van offered an outstanding experience once I decided to Yelp reviews. In the past, I had 3 to 3.5 star experiences in the presence of b list celebrities. But its a new dawn, a new day. I ordered a boneless New york strip upon advice of Robert my waiter. I must say his recommendation was Ideal. My steak was perfect on the first try and each bite was satisfying. Honestly, the Main course was so ideal that I vaguely remember the drinks, sides or pre meal salad. On a great day on the east end, i walked away satisfied. read more

Horrible! I'll start by saying I have been to Bobby Vans many times in the past for lunch. (The calamari is some of the best I've ever had). Many of my friends have told me they've been disappointed with this place but I've always defended it. However, tonight I went for dinner since they advertise on the web, and in Dan's paper, a $29 price fix. I sat at the bar. At first the bartender told me that the price fix was no longer available, it's only an off-season deal. When I showed her that the website was still advertising it she went to check with......someone.......... And I was told that this one time, just for me, they would honor the deal.... Lucky me! Anyway, ........,,,,,,,, Pause,......... I had written about four more paragraphs after this going into great detail about my ordeal tonight. Screw it! Went Jan 2019..Not as remembered. First time back in years. My wife and I used to come here almost exclusively for the Gorgonzola steak. It was a favorite. This time, it was a little tough, and fatty. Just eh... I ordered the Scottish salmon special.. As soon as it was placed in front of me, I could smell it was bad. I tasted it anyway, and sure enough, it was awful. The opposite of fresh. The waiter didn't seem surprised when I told him it wasn't good, and took away the plate so fast the tablecloth fluttered... Then I ordered the short ribs over crispy fries and mozzarella with aus jus sauce... Another "special". I've only had short ribs elsewhere that were extremely tender. These were tough, and seemed more like a brisket to me. The fries aren't exactly crispy sitting in the sauce, and it was by far the saltiest dish I've ever tasted. I couldn't get the salt taste out of my mouth the entire ride home. We were excited to get back here, but sometimes memories are better. read more

I have been a diehard fan of Bobby Van's for the better part of two decades. My recent visit proved to be very disappointing. The service was exemplary, as always. The hostess greeted us in a very friendly manner and whisked us to our table. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the Burata as an appetizer which was delicious. My husband ordered a kale and Quinoa salad which he said was wonderful. The problem was the steak. You go to a steak house for great steak and this is where Bobby Van's falls shorts, lately. The last three times I've eaten there have been a letdown. I ordered the Sirloin Steak with Gorgonzola sauce. I usually get the sauce on the side because it is very rich and they put too much on the steak. The steak was not hot and it looked like it had been sitting around for a while. I also wish they would change the menu sometimes, particularly at the start of the summer season. I find they don't change the specials or menu items often. Another time I had brunch there recently, I ordered the Roast Beef Hash. In the past, it was out of this world. The last time I had it a few months ago, it was not hot and a bit too salty. It also looked like it had been sitting around. It's too bad since Bobby Van's has always been one of my favorite places. I hope they can get it together! read more

Awesome restaurant. I had one of the SWEETEST waitresses ever. She was able to memorize their specials of the day menu, which in itself was like a completely different menu. She listed like 15 entrees. At the end, I only remembered hearing the words mussels and salmon a couple times. But anyway, I had some of the best calamari I've ever had on the planet. And I LOVE calamari, so I order it everywhere I go. If I'm not mistaken this is the first Bobby Van's. I think it's better priced and tastier than the one in Manhattan (midtown). Definitely a great spot for some solid steak with good appetizers. read more

Very disappointed in BV's. We went to the weds. $27 -3 course special. Service was truly off and cold. I saw no reason for it. Caesar salad was just sad, then my wife had a bland flounder. OK soup, and then I had the tired Chix Parma--everything felt pre-cooked and unloved. We just saw Chef (wonderful) and we were so ready for a great meal at this legend of the Hamptons, but I say don't bother. Had lunch over the weekend... Waited forever for our food and my burger was inedible ... Beyond Overcooked... Our server was nonexistent and it wasn't even busy... A standard stop on our way to or from the hamptons. Awesome food, the menu isn't huge the number of special they have daily makes up for that. Only 4 beers on draft, kind of weak. But the food here is big in flavor and that's what it's all about. One of us always gets the shepherds pie, and the filet mignon chili. However one special the other day was "buffalo chicken fried steak tips" what. What. What. A guilty pleasure. How bad these are for you! And how incredible they were. So good, you need tums and a nap after eating at bobby vans. Best food and prices. Definitely my favorite stop in the hamptons. read more

Great steak, sub par salads and seared tuna. Firstly, the porterhouse was cooked perfectly and flavorful. It met my expectations for a steakhouse. Now if they can manage non steak entrees then that's the hallmark of a strong kitchen. Unfortunately the Caesar was less then run of the mill and the tuna and it's sides were bland and uninteresting. This place has some pretty terrible food. The 2 stars are for the great onion rings, it's only saving grace. The Monkfish was the worst fish I've had all summer. The salad has so much blue cheese, it was nearly impossible to taste anything else. The plain grilled chicken was good but if you can make a plain half chicken, you shouldn't be a chef. Maybe the steaks are good but don't order fish. Go elsewhere! read more

We went to Bobby Vans in Bridgehampton for an early dinner tonight. I do not normally write reviews for restaurants I don't like; I simply do not go back and urge friends to do the same. The waiter was pleasant and did absolutely nothing to get me excited about my meal. He didn't even try to upsell me on appetizers or cocktails. I would come to thank him later for not doing so. So, here's the order. Porterhouse for two cooked rare. Creamed spinach, crispy potatoes, and onion strings. Pretty straightforward for a Saturday night. It wasn't more than 15 minutes before the steak landed on the table ahead of the obligatory breadbasket. Normally even with a rare steak it comes out on a sizzling platter with the waiter cautioning his patrons about the hot platter. No sizzle at all. The steak was sitting in a pool of clarified butter. Disappointing to say the least. The cream spinach was bright: iridescent bright. Besides the unusually bright color, it was ice cold. IT WAS ICE COLD!. As if someone had scooped it out of the fridge cold. I summoned the waiter and he was more than happy to take it back and replace it for me. The next one came back similar to the first: ice cold. The only seasoned part of the meal was in fact the spinach. It was loaded with so much salt that it was inedible. I sent that right back. On to the steak. That was cold as well. Not wanting to send the steak back for fear of a sputum reprisal, we ate some of the steak and got the check. I have been to Bobby Vans in the past and have always remembered it as a respectable steakhouse. I am grateful to my waiter tonight. If it wasn't for his lack of enthusiasm, I probably would have donated $300 instead of only $200. You might be saying by now that since it was a Saturday night, they were probably busy and had an off night. That might be true, but the reservation was for 2 people at 5pm. My husband and I are "regulars" here and can say without reservation that the food and service at Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton is consistent and good! Favorites? Oysters Rockefeller, Caesar Salad, Beef Barley Soup, Shrimp Taco, Lobster Cocktail (a 1 pound lobster!), Cobb Salad, Spring Rolls, Eggs Benedict, Chinese Chicken Salad, Shepard's Pie, ... I think you get the picture, we like nearly everything on the menu. Portions are huge, so bring a big appetite, lots of friends or eat off the app menu like I do. We particularly like eating at the bar where you feel like you're really in the action and the bar tenders are superb and friendly. read more

O.k.-so the steak was good according to one in our group. But that's about the only thing we were raving about at our table. The service was efficient but very robotic - clearly our waitress was just going through the motions - I might understand that if it was at the END of the season but early April...c'mon The caesar salad was overdressed,the vegetable torte was burnt, the mashed potatoes were boring and flavorless, and the wine list will put you to sleep (which I cannot understand considering there are some pretty decent local vineyards???) But the kicker was observing the hostess hover around our table numerous times trying to send us subliminal messages to vacate the premises- which infuriated me considering we just spent $350.00 for a mediocre dinner for 4 - we were a party of four and we had been at the table 1 hour and 30 minutes when the hovering began. I personally cannot recommend this place - the food was basic and boring, the wine list SUCKS and you get the bums rush if you stay more than an hour....lots of options in this town - don't bother! read more
