UPDATE DEC 2020: My sweetheart & i ADORED the old Bok a Bok sauces but they've recently made a change to sauces that are bigger in size & pre-packaged. While I appreciate the ease this must bring, tbh they're not great. They're all sweeter versions of the original sauces but they taste flat, underwhelming and yet the bad taste sticks in your mouth, we keep trying to like them but they're just so not enjoyable. Whack. Barely reminiscent of Korean fried chicken so don't get your hopes up. But that's not why I'm giving this place 2/5. The only redeeming quality about this chicken is the crunch but the flavors are so terrible, that the texture of the chicken doesn't really even matter. I ordered 5pc Chinese Honey Mustard, 5pc Spiced Honey & Garlic, 10pc OG with ranch and sesame soy garlic dipping sauces, and a side of the Ginger Cabbage Slaw. They pretty much all sucked. Unlike other reviews, this isn't about a lack of seasoning, all the wings were properly seasoned. But the flavor of the seasoning itself left a lot more to be desired. The Chinese Honey Mustard was more mustard than honey and mustard wings are not appetizing. The Spiced Honey & Garlic was essentially Chinese five spice mixed with honey and was absent any garlic or overall balance. Five spice wings could be good, but this particular attempt at combining savory and sweet just did not work. As expected, the OG wings were bland on their own but the dipping sauces barley improved the taste. I'm pretty sure they gave me Spiced Honey instead of the Sesame Soy Garlic sauce for the OG wings so you already know how I feel about that, very disappointing. The bok a bok ranch was decent but I would have preferred regular ranch over this particular rendition. The ginger cabbage slaw was overpowered with ginger flavor and soggy. Overall, the wings have a good crispy texture, were cooked properly, but extremely bland. The underwhelming chicken needs the sauce/rub/seasoning to carry the flavor and they all fell short. Maybe the popular Sesame Soy Garlic dipping sauce could have saved this meal but unfortunately that never made it to my order. I ordered 20 wings and ended up eating 8 and gave the rest away to the homie on the corner. Won't be coming back. Any actual Korean Fried Chicken or regular fried chicken franchise such as Wingstop, Popeyes, KFC would have been a much better experience than this. I'm not a burger person but I really enjoy the spicy crispy chicken burger from bok a bok. A friend introduced this place to us and we've been hooked ever since. Whenever in doubt, we always pick up from bok a bok as the safest option and it indeed has become our go-to comfort food especially during the pandemic. The chicken patty is very juicy and crispy and the extra jalapeños add that extra oomph to the burger. Also a special shout-out for the bowl o'shame - just take my word for it ;) Dirty fries are okay but cheese lovers might enjoy it more. read more

This spot had a fair amount of hype when it first opened but after it died down, i decided to give it a try. I've heard lots of mixed reviews but I can say that its definitely quite delicious. The chicken was tender and not overcooked while the crust was super crisp and perfectly thick & seasoned. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and let me tell you, this does not mess around. It instantly got me sweating, with the serrano chilis doing work. The Kimchi blended in really well with the 4 chili hot sauce, and for a quick sandwich, It was exceptional. Its a shame this spot closes at 10pm, because it would make fantastic drunk food. I'd definitely come back to try the other things on the menu! read more

This is the first time I have had air-dried double fried chicken and I do have to say that they are very tasty chicken. The chicken is juicy and still has a good fried crunch. The location is prime in Capitol Hill central to local bars and shops. Although parking can be hard it is worth the trek. I got the 20pc crispy chicken wings with all the sauces (chili hot, sesame soy garlic, bok a bok ranch and the umami bbq). I would have to say my favorite sauces were the chili hot or the Korean bbq. I would definitely recommend getting sauces because with out it the chicken was pretty plain. I also got the rice bowl that came with kimchi, egg and pickled radish. It was nice to eat this with the chicken but I think next time I wouldn't need to order rice. Last I got the kimchi Mac n cheese to try. It didn't have to much kimchi cabbage in it but it did taste like kimchi. It kind of reminded me of store bought Mac n cheese. read more

And I am happy to tell you that if you are having similar cravings, Bok a Bok does a great job of safely getting you your chicken fix. As usual, we did pickup rather than delivery to avoid fees and because we thought it would arrive faster and fresher that way. We ordered through UberEats, and the online ordering process went smoothly and gave us an estimated time it would be ready. Now that parking enforcement is temporarily shut down, it's a LOT easier to find parking on Capitol Hill than ever before! We parked just half a block away. For social distancing, they want you to just poke your head in and yell your UberEats order number, but not to come inside if you don't need to. Our order wasn't ready, so we waited outside for a few minutes until they popped out with our food. The guy working was a little brusque because we didn't know to stay outside, but I can't blame him for not wanting to breathe everyone's germs. We ordered a 2-piece thigh, 2-piece drumstick, 5-piece wings, fries, and kimchi mac 'n' cheese. Everything was really well packaged in compostable containers, including the sauce cups. Even the fries stayed pretty crisp! The chicken was fresh and hot, with a light crispy skin and juicy inside, and the kimchi mac 'n' cheese was even better than I remembered -- definitely a must-try. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and came in with my daughter, niece and nephew one winter weekend. There are a lot of things on the menu, or maybe a lot of combinations, and I got a little anxious and didn't want to hold up the line, so I started ordering a bunch of things. Tater tots, wings, drumsticks, and strips with the sesame soy garlic sauce later and I ordered over $50 worth of chicken and things, LOL! Then I sit down and none of the kids want to eat!?!! I was slightly irritated I'm the only one eating, but the wings with the sauce were really good so my mood lightened. Crispy and tasty. The drumsticks were ginormous and surely 100% hormonal chickens, there's no way those were normal chicken legs heh heh. Luckily later at night the kids and I ended up eating the rest of the chicken as a late-night snack. Staff wasn't overly welcoming or helpful with any suggestions, but not rude or anything. Self-service with water, condiments, etc. and bus your own tables. The space was clean enough, although the restroom was a little funky. I've heard about this place from at least 3 different people and 2 newspapers, so I was extremely excited to finally try it out. It was however pretty disappointing. I was shocked at first at how small the place is. There was two separate corners that can sit 6 people each, and a counter. In addition, they don't have their alcohol license yet, so we had to go to the bar next door to get some. There was a rock concert happening next to the bar at that time and my friends and I had trouble hearing each other. It was nice however jay they brought the chicken straight to our table at the bar. Now, the food. The chicken was very disappointing. It's nothing like Korean fried chicken because the sauce is on the side. It's just like KFC with some different sauce but less tasty than KFC. The breading was uneven and too thick in some areas. The thighs I got had very little meat. The sauce containers were very small and hard to dip into. None of the sauces was spicy. The only sauce that I really liked was the sesame soy garlic one. The mac n' cheese was pretty yummy, but didn't have much kimchi at all. Overall, I probably would not visit again myself. You all can obsess over Chick-Fil-A and Popeye's chicken sandwiches and I'll be over here looking a mess taking big bites of Bok A Bok's juicy yuzu green chile chicken or spicy chicken sandwich with a grin on my face. I will never forget one sick day when I missed breathing normally. All I could think of was their spicy chicken sandwich. Two bites in, my nasal passages had cleared, the fog of illness had lifted, I had smoother skin and probably lost 5 lbs. I felt incredible. True to the good old all American chicken sandwich, the bun is pillowy soft and lightly toasted. The chicken is juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. They don't hold back on the spice but it doesn't sacrifice a balance of flavors. There's brightness from the kimchi and the pickled serrano chiles that perfectly compliments the deep fried juicy chicken. Overall, I'm surprised even the raves on here are holding back on a 5 star review. Their sandwiches are delicious. We don't even have to hear from Mr. Flavor Town himself to know that! I do think their sandwiches are better than the chicken pieces on their own. The sandwiches provide an interesting addition of accoutrements and sauces that really make the fried chicken shine. Third time trying Bok a Bok and we loved it just as the first two times! First time was a couple years ago at their West Seattle location, second was during bumbershoot this year and the third was today at the Capitol Hill location(which is A LOT closer for us northerners.) We ordered the Umami BBQ Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the Kimchi Mac n Cheese. Everything tasted perfect! We've tried the Spicy Chicken and the Kimchi Mac before, never disappointed with those choices. First time trying the Umami BBQ Sandwich, and I think I found my new favorite menu item! Besides the Kimchi Mac or course. If I lived closer or if a Bok a Bok location opens up north*hint hint ;)* I would definitely eat here more often! I get delivery across town and the chicken and fries are always crispy. In person the food gets to you flaming hot. As a celiac, I love that I can get these things without worrying about cross contamination. The only downside is that there are very few sides that aren't fried or covered in sauce/cheese. The closest thing I can get is kimchi, which similar quality can be purchased from most local grocers. If you are looking for a non-fried gf side, the dirty rice is pretty good. Despite the hot rice, cheese, etc, our poached egg comes in perfect gooey condition on top. If you're looking for gluten free fried food (and some with gluten), this is your place. Oh! And I've only tried the fish sauce wings (as far as pre-dipped flavors go), but they're fantastic and deliver well. A strong flavor without a hint of reduced aquarium water and that is often common in fish-sauce recipes. These have an intoxicating flavor akin to Ba Bar's imperial rolls in wing form. Umami, salty, acidic, bright, crunchy and tender on the inside. Definitely try them. read more

This is good chicken. This is good gluten free chicken. I recommend thighs rather than the breast strips--juicier. Spiced honey is great on the thighs. They're even good cold. Couple things--sometimes they forget salad dressing which is very sad. Sauces have been back and forth on the gluten-free-ness? I think maybe they started making their own sesame soy garlic again so it's GF again (with a sticker) but for a minute it wasn't (it was being made somewhere offsite) and it's super hard to know what you're gonna get. But I do like the sauces that come with full ingredients so that's cool. Allergies and whatnot. Also def wish they had some kind of not plastic container for the rice bowls. It's alright. Skins super crispy and the meat is somewhat still juicy. The flavor is not the best in Seattle but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The customer service is great here. My friend and I ordered the garlic chicken sandwich, wings, and tater tots. The server came put and gave us twice as many tater tots which was so generous of them. I wished there was more seasoning to it but it was still deliciously crispy. The garlic chicken sandwich was difficult to eat since it came in pieces so it was falling apart but the flavor was good. The wings were also good but nothing special. The sauces were much needed. The server was attentive and when she heard it was our first time, she offered the garlic sesame sauce for free. It was tasty but I liked the 5 chili sauce much better but that's just because I prefer spice with my food. Besides the food, the dude with the dark hair at the counter was a straight up douche nozzle when I asked if they cooked with MSG. They don't, but he reacted as if it was an insult to the place. Listen, Stephán, MSG is just a seasoning and is in no way indicative of the quality of the establishment. The only reason I have to ask is because my partner is unfortunately intolerant to it and it's in nearly everything (under different names) and used in all sorts of reputable establishments. Something tells me you wouldn't have reacted this way if I asked if they cooked with garlic powder but yeah...I'M the ignorant one. This is some of the BEST FRIED CHICKEN IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! It's double fried, the batter is crispy, crunchy, yummy. And, the best part it wasn't oiled or greasy. I thought maybe it was the first pieces but the second and third were the same! The chicken, inside the batter was perfectly cooked, juicy, yummy goodness! Even the next day the chicken was amazing!! If you're craving some fried chicken try them, you won't be disappointed. Oh! I forgot to mention the sauces. Their soy ginger sauce is amazing. It's thick, sweet, tangy, and pairs well with the fried chicken. They have a wasabi ranch sauce, spicy, if you like that. Their tater tots are really good as well. Even the next day!
