Truly delicious food. I live near Edison NJ an area with dozens of Indian restaurants. Was not expecting great Indian food in Brunswick. As good or better than any place I have eaten at recently. Amazing!!! Some of the best Indian food I've had in this country. Vegetables and meat super fresh and spices exquisite. We had lamb curry "hot" and it was hot but not painfully so, just extremely yummy hot. Saag paneer had a slightly smoky taste that complemented other flavors so well. No problem with the food. The time estimates are terrible for takeout. They were obviously extremely busy but told us 30 minutes. We got there 45 minutes after the call. I got told 10 more minutes. Not a problem, they are very busy. We came back 15 minutes later. Told another 5 minutes. We kept getting told 5 more minutes. Now 2 hours after our order was placed, we are still waiting. A great alternative to the lobster madness of coastal Maine! I got the Chicken Curry and although it was a little bit on the bitter side, I'd eat it again. I'm not a fan of chickpeas at all but their Chana Masala is so so good!! My mom got it and I kept eating off her plate. She got it made without dairy and it was amazing. No chickpea taste what so ever. Just yummy Indian spices! They are also very accommodating. They can make any dish on their menu without dairy! Food was great - fresh curries with fully garlic naans. We had butter chicken, lamb saag, chicken curry, dal, and channa masala for the table with mango chutney, raita and mixed pickle. Service was really poor. Took my name at the door for take-out and stood there for 10 minutes. Another person came out to take my name and told me to wait outside because it was not ready. Never came out to let me know when it was ready. Went back inside 20 minutes later and no apology. One of the cartons of food was on it's side in the bag and the bag was wet and had hole in bottom. First of all, I love Indian food and have eaten in numerous places of the years. This place was awful in EVERY respect. Burned garlic naan. Chunks of raw garlic in our cooked dishes. Small portions, basically flavorless, the meat was tough and stringy, we were Ignored by the waitstaff for almost 20 minutes after being seated.... I could go on. The temperature in the room had to be north of 90 degrees...felt like a sauna with acrid smoke burning your eyes. It was (almost) unbearable. Both my partner and I were tempted to leave while we were waiting but foolishly hung around. On top of everything slse, there is a wonderful place up and across the street called Shere Punjab that is the opposite in every respect: great food, generous portions, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Unfortunately, you can't dine in there currently because they appear to be short staffed. The fact that Bombay Mahal apprears to be thriving seems bizarre when there is a MUCH better place in the same neighborhood. We like to dine out, but from now on it's take out from Shere Punjab. Bombay Mahal was truly awful , overpriced and one of the worst dining experiences I can remember. read more

This is our second time eating here...the first was the weekend buffet. The food is great! Service can be a little slow, but everyone is very friendly. On this trip, we had nan, palak paneer, channa masala, and a mango lassi. Everything was very delicious! For the spice level, we chose hot. As much as we love spicy food, the medium plus might have been the better choice. Any hotter and it might have become uncomfortable! And while some might feel the food is a bit pricey, we always get another meal out of the leftovers. That makes it A-OK in my book. Nice little outside seating area, as well. read more

Whenever I find myself in Brunswick, I make it a point to eat at Bombay Mahal. From the minute I walk in the door, I am treated as a VIP. The staff is very friendly and attentive. But the food is what I come for and I'm never disappointed. While I love the masalas, and their tender lamb dishes, my favorite is their Saag Paneer. It is creamy and perfectly spiced with plenty of delicious Paneer. I also enjoy their mango lassi and the paladin which is on the house. I hope these wonderful people never stop sharing their Indian cuisine and their hospitality. I look forward to my next visit. read more

Decent, flavourful dishes and Indian bread, served in attractive vessels. During the pandemic and warm weather, it was great to sit in a table out front, distanced from other guests. Went here with a friend the other night during irene. Busy with only one person on waitstaff but the wait is kind of the fun here. My guest asked why the person did not answer their ringtone. I said it was the music played. It was indian music with a hip-hip kick. haha I orderd Keema Samosa as a app/ Poori bread, and Chicken La Jawab- $14.95 split between us Boneless pieces of Chicken Tandoori sautéed with cream of coconut, bell peppers, onion, nuts and spices. I order'd a tea i wanted an iced tea but was served a warm tea. Language barrier i just picked a tea and dident ask I will know next time. Everything was great. Food is filling and spicy. What a neat spot! Supposedly the longest running Indian restaurant in Maine. The ambiance here is great. We got in just before the dinner rush. Our server was attentive, although she seemed a little new or over eager. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. I ordered the chicken curry with a medium spice, and I probably should've gone with hot as it was still pretty mild. My wife had the chicken tikki which comes out on a sizzling platter. We had a couple servings of traditional naan and tried the pickled accompaniment. I'd avoid the pickled assortment, it wasn't very good. But the rest of the meal was great! The only deduction of the star was because I felt it was a tad overpriced for the amount of food we received. But this would be a great date night spot! read more

I came here for the sunday lunch Buffet, as I was driving through the town. Chose this place as it has received great reviews and awards. However, I was disappointed by the buffet options. As an Indian, I expected some basic dishes in the buffet. There was no Dal. For vegetarians, the meal can get lil dry without any gravy options. The masala tea was also not up to the mark. I Love the Bombay Mahal restaurant. It has a bunch of delicious Indian foods and great employees. My waiter was so nice he gave us a discount for no reason. I ordered a Somosa and garlic Naan it was so good. I also ordered a mixed grill with rice, it was a great Indian meal. I think this place is the BEST Indian restaurant in Maine. I had a nice waiter that served me, named Rag. Great impression to the Indian culture and food. I love this place. Also their is some catchy Indian music playing in the restaurant. We ate at Bombay Mahal in Brunswick, ME, at a time when they could not get enough wait staff to keep the dining room open. So they did something very clever. They set up a table blocking the entrance and took take out orders. You could order your food and eat at one of the outside tables in front of the restaurant. They also had labeled bags ready to be picked up or delivered that had been ordered on line or by phone. The food was excellent. We ordered gluten- free vegetable pakora and chicken pakora and rikki-tikki-tavi patties which were delicious. As our main courses, we had chicken tikki masala, lamb saag and lamb vindaloo. It was all so delicious. We had papadam and naan as an accompaniment for those not gluten-free. The mango lasso was almost a dessert rather than a drink. It was soo good.The restaurant thoughtfully provided a stand in the entrance with water, paper plates and utensils for those dining on the premises. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and was glad Bombay Mahal found a way to work around their staff shortage. read more

This was one of my favorite Indian meals ever. I usually go to another Indian restaurant in Brunswick that I love, but it was closed on Tuesdays, so I decided to try this restaurant again after 5 years. The veggie appetizer platter was excellent, but I do like fried cheese which was not included and it came with only one piece of papadam. The garlic Naan was so flavorful and piping hot fresh. The pillow bread which came with 2 pieces was large and pillowy, full of air. The saag paneer was so flavorful and absolutely the right slice level at medium. I like a lot of cheese and there was enough, but could have used more. The lunch portions were perfect, not too much and not too little. Prices were good for lunch. Waitress was friendly and fast. It was a tad warm inside though, hot outside as well. read more

Ordered take out recently since my wife and I were soooo craving Indian food during the quarantine. Sadly we opted for Bombay. It was waaayyy more money than should have been for the amount of food we got. Luckily though the portions were small enough not to feel bad for the wasted food. The chicken vindaloo i got was good, however in the order I believe i counted maybe 4 pieces/cubed chicken chunks and very little else. The Naan we got was bland and tough/too chewy (not in a good way). This was the first time neither my wife nor i wanted to eat the Naan. My wife ordered the Saag Paneer was basically just creamed spinach and again bland. Lastly the appetizer platter was got was unbelievably bland and dry. Nothing, i mean nothing could be distinguished between the items aside from shape. They were all so dry it was like eating deep fried sand. I rarely try to post such a negative review and know times are tough with the pandemic but wow this was plain BAD. The 2 stars (instead of 1) was for the few pieces of chicken i had and thankful the restaurant was open for take out. read more

We went there for the lunch buffet that they have on Saturday's and Sunday's. After looking at the buffet and the price 11.00 per person, we opted to just eat off of the lunch menu. When we walked through the door there were two waitresses that told us we could sit anywhere, so we did. After waiting for over ten minutes a waitress finally came over to our table, She never even brought us complimentary water, just the menus. After about being there for fifteen minutes, she finally took our order, along with pushing us to get some breads. My bf was starving so we did order some naan, BEWARE, they will offer you a mint or mango chutney to go with the naan, it's an additional $5! The food was decent when it came out, I wasn't amazed by it. Plus, down the street is Shere Punjab and their food is 10x better. The service here was awful, I couldn't eat all of my dish so I asked for a to go box. As she was clearing the table she took the rice I was planning on taking home. This place is just OK, i won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Our group was in town to play the Saltwater Celtic Festival. We have a tradition of finding Indian restaurants while on tour, so we've had the lot. This place was a gem. Everybody's dish was exquisite, very well made, the flavors were noticeably explosive. Even the ones in our group who enjoy the "hurt me" spicy hot were pleased. The owner/chef chatted us up at the end of the mean; he was very cool and explained his technique to us about freshly flavoring each dish to order (we could see him back in the kitchen preparing our meals, looking every bit the mad scientist!)
