decided on coming here for dinner last night (1/27) since we were in the area. place wasn't full nor was it empty, so we were able to get a seat once we walked in. we placed an order of a spicy small combo, rice and kimchi. sat around, talked while we waited for the food to come and maybe 10 mins later the chicken was placed on our table. the pickled radish was not on the plate like it usually is, the rice and kimchi was no where to be found so we waited. finally someone brought it over and we each grabbed a drumstick of chicken. bit into and realized it was soy garlic. we flagged someone right over and he said oh ok let me see what we can do. i don't know if he was new because he had to ask someone for help. shortly after a short asian girl with glasses came over and asked what the problem was. i told her what the situation was and she literally said because you bit into it, we can't take it back. i told her how was i suppose to know it's not spicy?! she states well spicy is red, you should have known. well whoever put it on my table SHOULD HAVE KNOWN it was not what i ordered. it is not my job to know if this is my food or not, that's YOUR JOB. she goes to the back and talks to whoever and comes back saying the only thing we can do is drizzle spicy sauce on it. i said then no i'm leaving and am not paying for this. it's not what i ordered. i told her i want to speak to her manager. the manager came over after our new SPICY chicken was placed on our table and i went over the issue with him. i told him if that's how you handle a situation that's horrible. it could have just been a simple fix ... oh i'm sorry let me take this back and get what you ordered. instead it was a back and forth crap where you were going to make me pay for something i didn't order nor did i like. he apologized and stated that that should not have happened nor was that the right verbiage. the situation was handled poorly (CLEARLY!) needless to say that short asian girl with glasses never came back to my table. we finished our meal and paid our bill leaving no tip. ZERO! you deserve nothing after that debacle. there are numerous bonchon locations that look cleaner and nicer closer to home .. there is no need to come back to this place after that mess. read more

BonChon Sunnyvale doesn't miss. I remember trying this location YEARS ago when they first started and now locations are sprouting all over the Bay Area (not a bad thing!). I went here with my girlfriend recently and we split a half and half small order of wings. I forgot to catch the name of the staff member who took our order and gave us our food, but he was really great. We had dropped by the week before Christmas so it was pretty empty for dinner with a few small groups dropping by, but I kinda liked it that way cause we were able to let the staff member know if we needed anything. I still can't get over how consistent the wings are here, especially when you try to get it at other locations, you always get the same flavors, same crisp, and same experience. The staff here is great, the food is great, the seating arrangement is great and overall, the vibe of this location is great. Thank you for being so consistent over the years BonChon Sunnyvale! Been wanting to try a Bonchon for quite some time and I'm so glad that I finally did. My date and I arrived around 5pm and were surprised to see a lot people waiting with so many open tables. Apparently, a server hadn't showed up for his/her shift yet. Not sure why no one else was able to seat customers. Weird! We got a medium order of half soy garlic and half spicy. The wings and legs were meaty and everything was fried to perfection! One of the best meals I've had in Sunnyvale. Okay, now I've been to bonchon many times over the years, but recently it hasn't really been hitting the mark. SAD! My buddy and I shared the spicy and new sweet chili wings. Overall the wings are massive! Like you question the size of the chicken so big lol. The texture on these wings are great! They're so crunch and pair well with the chicken. That being said, I found the flavor to be a bit off this time. They were okay, but they just weren't as good as they used to be. On another note, my friend ordered the chicken katsu and they actually didn't even put the order in. Thankfully, we checked About 15 min later (we were literally halfway done with wings by this time) and they got the order out to us quickly. Loved our first taste of Bonchon chicken in San Francisco almost 8 years ago. Our enthusiasm was renewed 5 years ago in Sacramento. Somehow our Southern Cal Bonchon experience was underwhelming. So it's great to be having lunch at this Bonchon nestled in a quiet strip mall during our visit to San Jose. On a warm afternoon, it's wonderful they served cold draft blue moon. The signature half half plates with sides of pickled radish were yummy, as expected. Appreciated the generous portion of delicious japchae glass noodles! Usually I got dainty portions. The salad was pleasantly fresh, balancing out the abundant protein we consumed. The Kim chi was just so so. Service was very attentive. An enjoyable lunch. read more

This is a pre-COVID-19 review. I came here with my sister because she wanted KFC and she said there were not a lot of places to get it in Michigan. We came here for lunch and got the lunch combos. Their fried chicken is always so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I enjoy both their soy garlic and their spicy sauces. Overall, Bonchon can serve a pretty good Korean fried chicken. Even when you get the wings for takeout or bring them home for leftovers, they magically stay crunchy, especially if they are not dressed with sauce. I do not know how they do it, but it's delicious and worth getting. read more

We came here at noon on a Wednesday. I was a bit nervous as I approached the door since I see a handful of ppl waiting. I hate waiting. Placed our name on the list for 2ppl and we were ok to sit at the counter. Within 2 minutes, we were seated at the counter with menus in front of us and ready to order. Small order of wings plus japchae and we wait! So happy when it arrived. So good. We went for the soy garlic as I can't do spicy. Pickled Daikon to accompany the chicken. Love every part of my lunch. Worst customer service ever and the manager even tried to lie through the whole process. I ordered through their web site at 7:30PM for delivery and their delivery time stated 9:00PM. I called to see if they can expedite the order for earlier delivery and they said they have my order by probably won't be able to deliver until 8:32. I was glad to hear they can deliver 30 minutes early. Then I get an text at 8:25PM that it will be delivered by 9:00PM. I figured they are busy and since it was the original time, I was just waiting. Then at 8:41PM, I get a text stating my order has been cancelled. So I call them and the manager stated that they never had my order. I told him I talked to someone at 7:40 when I ordered, he then changed his story saying "oh the order is here but there must have been a problem with the tablet system because we don't have the food." I would have been okay for him to just say, I am sorry we made a mistake. Instead he went on and on about their system issue and how it wasn't their fault. Not a fan of fried greasy chicken but I came here because the vietnamese restaurant next door had poor service. Long story short. I showed up telling them I would get soup in the restaurant, but needed food to go for my kids. The servers at that restaurant never came back to allow me to order food for my kids. SO I walked to Bon Chon The restaurant may look dreary but it is about the service. Food can be amazing. Without service the food tastes like instant ramen. Before anyone insults, I am from Thailand. Trung, the manager on shift, was amazing. Not only was he responsive to me, he was quick and responsive to others in the restaurant. I spoke with a couple customers about the service and manager, Hung. The customers were extremely happy with his service. They were happy about the food. I'm in Sunnyvale this evening. I've been to this Bonchon a lot of times. To be honest, I haven't had it for nine years. They didn't have as much locations as they do now. The neighborhood looks slightly different than the last time I was here. I wanted to see if it's as good as back then. Today is the day, I get some Korean Fried Chicken. I had the 6 Peice Mixed: 4 Wings + 2 Drums in Soy Garlic. It's as good as I remembered it. This is the ultimate Fried Chicken. It was so crunchy, the batter shattered. The Soy Garlic was deep, sweet, and savory. I forgot how good their Pickled Radish was. They mastered the art of pickling Radish. The Kimchi tasted like how Kimchi should be. The only thing is, I had somewhat a lot of cash on me this time. I wanted to use some 20's, but they couldn't break it because it's too big and corporate policy says they don't carry change due to frequent employee theft at this location and cash is hard to track and nobody is able to go to the next store to break it. And I was like I know it's not the worker's fault on this shift, they didn't have that problem back then, it's unfortunate, upper management need to sort things out, because I don't see Caesars Palace in Las Vegas having that difficulty, and maybe they should reinvest some of the revenue into better security and surveillance for theft prevention. In the end, I happen to have some extra change to cover everything. Other than that, everything was very good. I am addicted to Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) and while I've been to a number of places and tried many different varieties but honestly none of them compare to Bonchon. This is probably my favorite place to get my Korean fried chicken fix. It's located in a fairly small shopping center and this location is always packed no matter what time. I love that when you're walking up to the restaurant that outside the door they have newspaper and magazine articles praising their chicken (letting you know they're the best!). The inside is very small and tends to get very crowded and cramped so I usually order mine to go. The menu here is very short and sweet, you can get wings, strips or drumsticks in either Spicy or Soy Garlic flavors as well as half and half. They come in small, medium and large and combos and lunch specials are available as well and these come with a side dish. My go to here is usually the small size soy garlic wings (10 pieces), they will occasionally throw in a few large drumsticks as well. The chicken is cooked to order for EVERY order so expect to wait 15-20 minutes or longer if they are extremely busy. The chicken is absolutely amazing, it's always perfectly cooked and extremely crispy. That soy garlic sauce is very delicious and goes great on the chicken without making it soggy. Crispiest and most flavorful chicken ever and it's definitely worth the wait and all of the calories lol. The coleslaw here is very good as well, it has a bit of a garlicky taste to it but it's one of the more flavorful coleslaws that I've had. They do have other sides on the menu like fries, pot stickers, onion rings and a few other items but I've yet to try them. This is my go to Bonchon although Newark and Mountain View are closer, this location is simply better. I highly recommend giving them a try and guaranteed you will be addicted. read more

Came here for lunch for the first time...just for something different that we'd never tried before. A day or two after trying this place, my Korean friend told me that this is a very popular fried chicken franchise in Korea. My first impression of the place after walking in was that this looked like a very small, casual college kid hangout for a quick and yummy fast food meal. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that the place was a bit filthy and had a funky smell in the air.....they really need to clean this place better. Now that I have that out of the way....now for the food. We ordered the Small Combo of 6 Wings + 3 Drumsticks, a Small 10 Pc chicken strips, Potstickers, and Japchae (noodles). Unfortunately, we didn't realize that the japchae had beef in it so we didn't get a full taste of it. The potstickers were not bad, but I think I have to give them a big thumbs up to their chicken. We ordered half in the Soy Garlic sauce and half in the Spicy sauce....and although the spicy was very spicy!.....both flavors tasted yummeee good! What I really enjoyed was how the chicken was perfectly fried with that light crisp on the outside and tender juicy meat inside....and the chicken's crispiness remained even though they were coated with the sauces. Many other places I'd tried similar type coated chicken left the chicken all soggy.....but not here....well done. Other than that, service was very nice and friendly, and our server checked on us regularly to fill our water cups and to ask how everything was. A pre-quarantine review. It was the first night in San Jose for Donna S. and I and we were famished after landing at San Jose airport. Andrew C. took us here for some dinner. Our trio waited about 30+ minutes for a table (gets packed for dinner!). If you order to-go, the wait is a lot shorter! After some considerate wait, we were seated and we decided on Combo A (I think) - $39.99 - which included the large, two sides, an appetizer, and drinks. We got the mixed large (both drums and wings) with both flavors, the soy garlic potstickers, the kimchi cole slaw and rice sides, and a carafe of yogurt soju. The fried chicken was crisp and full of flavor. The spicy flavor (spicy hot garlic sauce) was my favorite. I've never had Korean fried chicken before Bonchon and found it to be my favorite over regular fried chicken. It was a while before SoCal had its own Bonchon location, so I still fondly remember Bonchon Sunnyvale for my first taste of the deliciousness that is Korean fried chicken. read more

Bonchon is a great place for your Korean fried chicken cravings. I know some folks prefer Vons but in my honest opinion (and taste buds) I can honestly say Bonchon (esp in Sunnyvale) is by far better. I normally get a small or medium combo (if I'm sharing) of half and half - soy garlic and spicy. The reason for 4 vs 5 stars is because the chicken isn't consistent with every order. Sometimes the chicken is super juicy and the soy garlic coats perfectly, other times it's a bit dry or the spicy is overwhelmingly spicy compared to another time. Not in a bad way - just from my experience it isn't always consistent. But still very delicious. Bonchon Chicken is an extremely popular fast-casual place for KFC - Korean Fried Chicken. Its characterized by the ginger-soy and spicy glaze on some seriously crispy skin. They also have other Korean specialties such as tacos, japchae, bulgogi, rice cakes, and many side dishes that range from pickled to deep-fried. Overall, I liked the small combo of wings and drums, with half spicy and half ginger-soy. I found the skin incredibly crispy and flavorful. The meat inside was moist and cooked through, but slightly under-seasoned compared to the skin. The drum pieces are especially large - we're not talking about those mini drums but the whole chicken leg here! The wings I found to be more uniformly seasoned. I probably enjoyed my lunch more than my wife; she found the skin excellent but the meat to be extremely bland. Our favorite chicken wings remains the Dried Fried Wings at SF's San Tung. Bonchon is decent - generous portions and excellent flavor on the skin. They just need to ensure the meat also gets some love. read more

We order take out from here pretty often. I personally haven't been inside yet but the takeout is always fresh and their online system is very easy to use. Their orders are always ready on time and the customer service is great! I have played around with the combo and the boneless wings. The combo I like getting spicy and the soy garlic. I will say the spicy boneless wings are spicier than the bone in but both are really good. We get this like every couple of weeks with the fries as well. Delicious! read more

They say it'll take about 30 minutes for the food to come out... so make sure you get an appetizer if you're a little hungry! Their fried chicken: Spicy, soy garlic, or half and half. You can go for wings (10, 20, or 30 pc), strips, or drumsticks (5, 10, or 15 pc). Or get their combo. Went for a large combo for the three of us which is more than enough haa.It came with 15 wings + 8 drumsticks and came out to be ~33.95. We also got some half and half potstickers as well because I thought this would take a while as well, but the thing is ... both the potstickers and the chicken came out at the same time! I was like damn.. maybe I didn't need the appetizer. Their potstickers are lightly fried and have the sauce that also is in the chicken as well. The spicy will be a little kick if you're not accustomed to it. Good to eat tho. The chicken came out and took up the table space. For me, the spicy had a kick for me and was actually too spicy for me. But the glaze is so good and the chicken is done well- you can see the steam flying out of the chicken once you bite into it upon it coming out. Mhmm. I stuck with the soy garlic which was more of a sweeter taste and a bit of the garlic taste came out. This one was my jam haha. However, I do still like Chi Mc all the way in Chantilly across the country... but this will still be a good option for me to try since there's so many restaurants throughout the US. I used to frequent them when they first opened then stopped for a while because it felt like the quality went down a bit, or maybe I was just going too much and I lost my liking for it. Went back a few months ago when covid first started and it was just as good as the first time I went! I always go for the small wings, half soy garlic and half spicy. This specific location of Bonchon used to be the go-to for KFC! After more locations opened up closer to my previous residence along with more options, I stopped coming out to Sunnyvale. Now that I'm living in the area, I had to get Bonchon when the craving struck for Korean fried chicken last night! I ordered online, and they offer in-store pickup, curbside pickup, and delivery. I chose a time for pickup (ended up being the earliest slot I could choose), received a text and email confirmation, then received a text that my order was ready (15 mins before my pickup time). For curbside pickup, the pickup text you receive has a link to confirm when you've arrived. Note that I didn't see an actual parking space/area designated for curbside pickup, so I just parked closest to the storefront as I could. You enter in your car's details during ordering, so that helps the workers find you though. My order came out fairly promptly, and I was on my way home! I got the half and half combo (soy garlic and spicy soy garlic), half and half potstickers (same flavors), and fries. The wings were delicious as I remembered, although the spicy flavor was definitely toned down as I remember them being super spicy. The heat was definitely in the spicy potstickers though, so I'm not sure why the spice levels were different for the wings. I'd pass on the fries next time - though they were crunchy, they were just thicker than my liking. I always appreciate that they put a toothpick to mark which is the spicy version! read more

I was excited to finally eat at Bonchon Chicken but that excitement quickly faded to happy. The reason being that I found out that not every location has the same menu. My friend and I were looking forward to trying the pork belly bias and salmon avocado ball and sadly it was not in the menu. She wanted wings and I wanted strips. We asked if they could do half wings and half strips and we we're told the don't do that. They can but they don't want to. 10pc Wings and 10pc strips is the same price. So I don't know why they wouldn't do half and half. We ended up ordering takoyaki which I didn't like from this location. My friend was the one that actually wanted it. Later she was complaining that it wasn't all that. The bulgogi tacos were delicious. Hefty amount of well marinated meat and a decent size portion. Feed three or you can have all to yourself. We also ordered the 10pc strips half spicy and half garlic. So good when they bring it out to your table and you can still hear it sizzling. That's when you know it's good chicken. The size of the strips were huge. I liked the garlic and disappointed the other half was not spicy at all. I can't wait to eat at Bonchon Chicken again. While they did close at 9, we didn't feel rushed at all. We ordered half spicy and half soy chicken strips. The spicy was pretty spicy this time. The spice levels are not always consistent. We also ordered Japchae. It was good and well seasoned. However, it was a little too salty for our taste. I am new to the area and my friend recommended Bonchon in general for Korean fried chicken. There are different locations and I picked this location because it closes a little later than other locations near me. The other locations were closed by like 8-8:30pm. I ordered the combo of 6 wings and 4 drum sticks. I got the half half: spicy and soy garlic. The flavors are good. The spicy has a good kick to it and the soy garlic had enough flavors to it and goes well with a bowl of white rice :). I did takeout so the chicken wasn't as crispy as i want it to be. Trust. 2) Universe sent.. - The aroma of the chicken is unmatched, the second the smell hits you you know it's bout to be a good time. There's just nothing like the smell of their chicken, that's cooked to absolute perfection. There's the precise balance of crunchiness to sauciness, and that quality is underrated af. Like Thanos said, there needs to be balance, and Bonchon understands that. 3) Mouth-watering... - Just thinking of the soy garlic and spicy combo makes me salivate. I love spicy food as much as Sean Evans from Hot Ones, but damn does the soy garlic put me in my place. I'd say I'm a bit of a spice elitist but the soy garlic here coaxes me to split the flavors I get every.single.time. 4) Family-like service.. - The staff here are always chill as hell! They're probably a bunch of high-schoolers/college-students trying to get by. But that actually makes it better? Always friendly, helpful, cheerful and know not to be Karen's or mean-spirited. I hail to thee, Bon Chon staff. 5) No frills.. - The prices here are affordable. I have been dining in and out since I was in high school and it was completely pocket friendly, even as a cashier making minimum at the Target down the street. Splitting with your friends makes it an even better deal. Never had to wait that long at this location either, thankfully there's a parking lot you can mess around with your friends at until they call your name. +a thousand stars and more for the free pickled radish which acts as the best refresher while eating my chicken. PANDEMIC POST Bonchon is still serving up terrific Korean fried chicken, and the crispy quality we know and love isn't compromised by the take-out model. \\ small combo - comes with a mix of wings and thighs, bone-in - the thighs are huge compared to the wings, and the texture of the meat is different between the two--let that inform your selection - one small box would probably have been enough for me to have for two meals... but I'll have to find out for sure next time - both their soy garlic and their spicy flavors are incredibly savory and tasty - comes with a side of their pickled radish cubes These are crazy times, but Bonchon flavors are just like before. This place has some bombass korean chicken! I brought my non-korean friends and they loved it a lot! Felt so much pride xD Tried their spicy chicken and soy garlic. I love spicy food so liked the spicy one better but soy garlic was very tasty as well. the coating is super crispy and flavorful. Chicken comes with pickled radish but you can also order side dishes like kimchi coleslaw, fries, rice, etc. They have chicken/bulgogi tacos which are AMAZING! definitely recommend this place to koreans AND non-koreans! read more
