Came here for Sunday brunch last weekend and honestly what stood out the most was how incredible the service was. It felt like 5-star Michelin star service. Servers and runners were impeccable. We were so impressed. The food was also fantastic. We had two people order island grill plates, they were also more than willing to accommodate a request to sub out the chicken wing for another piece of protein. Someone else got the steak and eggs and my aunt got the tocino and garlic rice - the tocino was 10/10 chefs kiss, everyone at the table really liked it. Lastly, the bone marrow was also magical. We asked for a few additional pieces of bread for the marrow and they happily obliged at no additional cost. The restaurant had a great vibe, was super clean and we honestly didn't have one complaint. Will definitely be returning. Definitely a recommended spot in our books! read more

My friend made a reservation for brunch on Sunday and we were seated in the parklet outside the restaurant. They offer a dog menu too which not many places have, and also brought out a water bowl which was so generous. We ordered the turmeric bison jerky for our dog and they brought a whole pack that was unopened so we could feed treats throughout the meal. Items ordered: - Oxtail Hash (5/5): WOW the meat was cooked very well and was very flavorful! Comes with potatoes, bell peppers, mushroom, onions, and eggs. Definitely worth a try! - Artisan French toast with passion fruit, orange, and guava (5/5): I didn't expect the dish to come with so much French toast but each piece was so fluffy and soft. I loved the tartness from the passion fruit flavor and the guava butter was an excellent part of the dish. One thing to note is that the oxtail hash came out a lot later than my friend's dishes, and they even brought out the French toast first so I had already eaten a piece of French toast before my oxtail hash finally came out. The food was amazingly delicious. Wife and I came to try the brunch as wife has been wanting to come. The appetizer we opted to get bone marrow. Let me tell you, this place has beautiful selection of bone marrows. The bone marrow was fatty, buttery, and melts in your mouth with the sliced baguette. I would recommend getting the rendang omelet. The rendang packed inside omelet crossed my mind as weird initially as I am more used to eating it with rice. Great conversations over delicious food was our weekend morning ritual and Bone Kettle provided a nice, clean, and cool atmosphere. I appreciate the dog friendly patio and the ambiance but the food either missed the mark or did not impress. My party parked in a parking garage around the corner and walked to the establishment - not the most convenient or cheap. The food did come out fresh and warm which is appreciated and not always the case nowadays. However, they had forgotten the oxtail dumplings and we reminded them while they were grabbing orders before the kitchen closed for the night. They finally brought it out around 20-30 minutes everyone had finished their food... and the taste did not make up for the wait. We ordered the bone both soup with fatty brisket and the eggs benedict with soft shell crab; this is in my top brunch places I've ever had. I love soft shell crab and to pair it with eggs benedict was an nice choice. I really liked the sauce it came with too as it balances out the saltiness and well seasoned crab. It's great that they take reservations and the staff is always really nice. Been to Bone Kettle a few times and it never disappoints! Dishes are a unique blend of Southeast Asian cuisine with a modern twist that's done well, and I love that they are constantly adding new dishes to the menu. Getting the bone marrow and signature Bone Kettle noodles & broth are a MUST- and you need to try it at least once. This time I tried the rendang carbonara, nasi goreng and mapo tofu fries which were all amazing- the carbonara was a favorite and hope it stays on the menu! After diligently scrolling through countless options for Valentine's Day, choosing Bone Kettle was the WRONG MOVE. We were completely deceived by the thousands of positive reviews and mouth-watering photos--because that's all this place offered. One star for presentation/aesthetic is all it earns. To start, their dishes were not clean! I received a dirty cup, and when I asked for a new one, I was given yet another dirty cup! As for the food, the first dish we ordered was the Oxtail Dumplings, the most reviewed dish on Yelp. This appetizer was not appetizing. The skin was hard and dry, as if it had been plated and left sitting out. The filling was an absolute flop as well. The texture was just mush, as if they had simply blended the oxtail. To top it off, the dumplings bathed in a thick sauce that was extremely salty with a foreign tang that I did not enjoy. The next dish we ordered was the Carbonara Rendang, as it best encapsulated Filipino fusion. The flavor was not bad, but it completely missed the mark on texture. You would think the bacon would help, but it was not crispy at all and just tasted like mush. It got worse as the dish sat and cooled to room temperature. Overall, it tasted very average, with no sense of elevated fusion flavors to be detected anywhere. Lastly, the Bone Broth Ramen. This item took up a quarter of the menu and was placed right at the top, so we assumed it had to be a signature dish. We were heavily disappointed by how mediocre it was. The soup tasted like canned broth, and the ramen noodles--which are supposedly artisan handcrafted--looked and tasted like they came straight out of a Maruchan package. The brisket protein we chose was weirdly grainy and dry. If there is one thing I will credit this restaurant for, it is for providing us a good laugh at how astonishingly bad the food was. We sat outside since it was a nice evening and enjoyed the patio dining vibes. Part of me wishes we sat inside since the interior is really pretty. For food, we ordered the Thai Steak Salad, Nasi Goreng, and Laksa Seafood Vol au Vent, along with some cocktails; and ended the night with a Matcha Tiramisu. Everything was prepared well and tasted delicious. I loved the flavor of my laksa, and I thought they were super generous with the seafood. It was a fun surprise to see the noodles nestled inside the puff pastry, but I didnt really enjoy the puff pastry component because, after the first few bites, it got really soggy, chewy, and generally unpleasant to eat. My friend thought the Nasi Goreng was ok -- a little bland, but you can't go wrong with fried rice and a fried egg. The Matcha Tiramisu was huge! It's definitely big enough for 4-5 people. I loved how light it was. Service was attentive and friendly; they encouraged us to place our order all at once because the kitchen closes at 8:30p (totally fine, but I wish they didn't even have later reservations available online because it affects the dining experience, and made us feel more rushed). Sad, sloppy and salty food served with a sleazy attitude. My husband and I came here on a Wednesday night around 8:25pm hoping for a simple dinner in a restaurant that we have enjoyed in the past. We said no and asked for a few minutes to look at the menu, realizing that the kitchen was closing soon. My husband ordered their Jakarta style beef stew and a red wine. I ordered the bok choy and my favorite dish at the restaurant, the oxtail dumpling. My husband's beef stew was flavorless and had a few very tiny pieces of beef floating around in a bowl full of indistinguishable vegetables. The kettle chips served with the stew were doused with a sweetest sauce tasing of soy ,sugar, and balsamic vinegar....bleh! But he was the lucky one because my oxtail dumpling was so salty and mushy that I spat out the first bite. I have never spat out food in a restaurant ever. I told the waiter that the dumpling was too salty and he told me that the dish is salty. "That's the way it is" and did not offer to replace the dish. I was stunned by the answer because I had this dish many times and it was NEVER this salty. We also had to remind him of the red wine my husband ordered. When we were ready to pay, he asked me if I wanted to take my dumplings home and I told him it was too salty,completely inedible and he just shrugged and smirked. We have been to some crappy restaurants and rarely write bad reviews. This review would have remained unwritten but for two things: The sleazy, pushy and completely indifferent waiter and the automatic 20% service charge on our absolutely crappy meal. The string beans they didn't pull the fiber "string" and it was a bit oily and soggy. Good ones doesn't have the string and is crunchy from a flash fry. Hash with oxtail was good. Great spot for brunch in Old Pasadena! We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated right away upon arriving. I was excited that a lot Bone Kettle's dishes are Asian/Pacific Islander fusion! I love chilaquiles, so when I saw it on the menu, I had to get it! It's listed under the "Starters" section of the menu, but the portion size is big enough to be an entree! Their Balinese Chilaquiles consists of tortilla chips, Bali sauce, Cotija cheese, lime crema, sliced radish, pickled onions, fried eggs, and micro cilantro. I enjoyed this take on the traditional chilaquiles. There was a sufficient amount of sauce that coated the chips well. The sauce itself was savory with a slight sweetness. I really enjoyed the crunch and freshness from the pickled onions too. We also got the Duck & Pandan Waffles. The Confit Duck was tasty and I liked the slightly crispy texture of the skin. The pork floss was also a nice addition for added texture and flavor. The duck egg had a huge yolk! The pandan waffles were a bright vibrant green, but the pandan flavor wasn't very strong. After 14 dishes, I still can't quite put into words how incredible everything that comes out of this kitchen is. Each plate not only looked stunning but tasted even better. Standouts for me were the fried cauliflower (crispy and flavorful with a tangy lime sauce that made it totally unique) along with the melt-in-your-mouth beef ribs and the must-try matcha tiramisu that made me find room even when I was stuffed. If I had to skip one dish next time, it'd be the papaya salad. It was just okay compared to everything else, especially the oxtail, which literally fell off the bone and was bursting with flavor. The perfect addition to their 36-hour broth. We dined here as a group of over 40, and the restaurant rented out the entire indoor space just for us. They even helped set up a TV for a presentation, which was super helpful. It was kind of hard to see the screen from the back and the mic was pretty staticky when the speaker passed a certain point. Not sure this place is great for presentations but I loved the food so that's what I'm eating based on. The service was decent, but the food truly stole the show. Stopped by for my birthday dinner some time ago and it's a beautiful spot to dine at. I came for brunch once before so nice to finally go for dinner and try the dishes. Our server was friendly and the hostess was very kind too. Started with a Lombok Mule and I asked for extra spicy cause the menu description says there are Thai chilis. To my dismay, there was no taste of the Thai chilis even with asking for extra spicy. It was actually quite sweet instead. Food we ordered: + Hamachi crudo - was solid, always enjoy some fresh pickles onions on top as well + Ube gnocchi - the gnocchi was very soft in texture and was creamy but didn't have a ton of 'ube' flavor versus the color of some of the gnocchi. Not like ube is very prominent in general. Wish there was more lime taste. + Rendang carbonara - very creamy, and thicker noodles here. There's kind of a lot going on on top, but mix it all together and it works. The rendang flavor itself I don't think is super prominent. The braised shredded short ribs was tender. + Bone marrow - liked the additional of a fresh herb salad here to compliment the savory/fattiness of the marrow. + Oxtail dumplings - from many recommendations to order these and had the oxtail flavor very forward from the dumplings to the sauce. + For dessert, they gave us the pandan creme brulee which was a very vivid green, but tasted like a regular creme and had the cracking top sugar coat. read more

We came here with high hopes as we have heard great things about this restaurant but it fell short for brunch. Two people's dishes came out in a semi timely manner but the third persons dish came out 30 min after, resulting in them eating by themselves if the others didn't want cold food. When we tried to cancel the order earlier, the server told us it was coming right now and walked away, not allowing us to cancel. When we asked the server to comp or discount the dish, he turned hostile and delivered poor service the rest of the meal service. The broth on its own was nice, and the dumplings were fine on their own but together, it was just too salty. The flavors are definitely pronounced and robust. Flavor is not lacking. However, because of the salt it caused the other seasonings to feel way too concentrated and my palate was overwhelmed to the point where I simply could not enjoy the dish. I really gave it multiple chances but I ended up leaving a dumpling behind bc I gave up. As a note, that says a lot because I tend to like saltier foods. The coconut milk cauliflower was also nearly too salty. I ordered it because the waitress described it as being very light with a coconut, fresh and bright lime dressing. I thought, perfect! Something light. Well, it was not. I couldn't tell the dressing was coconut milk; I really wondered if it was mayonnaise. The lime went unnoticed. With every visit to Bone Kettle comes the expectation that it will be delightful and we will go home with leftovers. Both were true this time as well. I loved having Theia wait on us - she was attentive without hovering and she didn't seem defensive when we mentioned that the clams and donuts, although tasty, was just a bit too salty. She offered to have the kitchen fix it but I just asked for a container to go so that I could do something with it when we got home. Guess what - I just added a little water and a few herbs and it was still so good. The lechon is perfect. So crispy and light! It was so fun chewing slowly and hearing it crunch in my mouth. Lots of value for money here because they give you a big portion. The star of the meal was the rendang carbonara. I was shocked that it didn't feel heavy or cloying. I could clearly taste the rendang despite it being fused into the carbonara. This is my favorite dish for the month, maybe even the year! I'm going to spend a lot of my free time figuring out how to replicate this in my kitchen. My husband and I are figuring out when our next date night will be so we can come back to Bone Kettle. The oxtail was so tender and juicy, the meat quite literally melted in my mouth. The vinegary soy sauce sauce also complimented the dumpling well. I also loved the texture of the dumpling skin. The skin was the perfect amount of thickness. The bone marrow was also so so goood. It was seasoned so well and the bread that came with it was nice and toasty. Such a nice fusion place in the area. This place has been here for a while but not sure why I've never tried it! The papaya salad was super nice and had a good kick to it.
