Great spot for brunch in Old Pasadena! We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated right away upon arriving. I was excited that a lot Bone Kettle's dishes are Asian/Pacific Islander fusion! I love chilaquiles, so when I saw it on the menu, I had to get it! It's listed under the "Starters" section of the menu, but the portion size is big enough to be an entree! Their Balinese Chilaquiles consists of tortilla chips, Bali sauce, Cotija cheese, lime crema, sliced radish, pickled onions, fried eggs, and micro cilantro. I enjoyed this take on the traditional chilaquiles. There was a sufficient amount of sauce that coated the chips well. The sauce itself was savory with a slight sweetness. I really enjoyed the crunch and freshness from the pickled onions too. We also got the Duck & Pandan Waffles. The Confit Duck was tasty and I liked the slightly crispy texture of the skin. The pork floss was also a nice addition for added texture and flavor. The duck egg had a huge yolk! The pandan waffles were a bright vibrant green, but the pandan flavor wasn't very strong. It also comes with syrup for some added sweetness. Overall, I enjoyed the sweet and savory elements of this dish! Restrooms are located downstairs. Stopped by for my birthday dinner some time ago and it's a beautiful spot to dine at. I came for brunch once before so nice to finally go for dinner and try the dishes. Our server was friendly and the hostess was very kind too. Started with a Lombok Mule and I asked for extra spicy cause the menu description says there are Thai chilis. To my dismay, there was no taste of the Thai chilis even with asking for extra spicy. It was actually quite sweet instead. Food we ordered: + Hamachi crudo - was solid, always enjoy some fresh pickles onions on top as well + Ube gnocchi - the gnocchi was very soft in texture and was creamy but didn't have a ton of 'ube' flavor versus the color of some of the gnocchi. Not like ube is very prominent in general. Wish there was more lime taste. + Rendang carbonara - very creamy, and thicker noodles here. There's kind of a lot going on on top, but mix it all together and it works. The rendang flavor itself I don't think is super prominent. The braised shredded short ribs was tender. + Bone marrow - liked the additional of a fresh herb salad here to compliment the savory/fattiness of the marrow. + Oxtail dumplings - from many recommendations to order these and had the oxtail flavor very forward from the dumplings to the sauce. + For dessert, they gave us the pandan creme brulee which was a very vivid green, but tasted like a regular creme and had the cracking top sugar coat. read more

After 14 dishes, I still can't quite put into words how incredible everything that comes out of this kitchen is. Each plate not only looked stunning but tasted even better. Standouts for me were the fried cauliflower (crispy and flavorful with a tangy lime sauce that made it totally unique) along with the melt-in-your-mouth beef ribs and the must-try matcha tiramisu that made me find room even when I was stuffed. If I had to skip one dish next time, it'd be the papaya salad. It was just okay compared to everything else, especially the oxtail, which literally fell off the bone and was bursting with flavor. The perfect addition to their 36-hour broth. We dined here as a group of over 40, and the restaurant rented out the entire indoor space just for us. They even helped set up a TV for a presentation, which was super helpful. It was kind of hard to see the screen from the back and the mic was pretty staticky when the speaker passed a certain point. Not sure this place is great for presentations but I loved the food so that's what I'm eating based on. The service was decent, but the food truly stole the show. The ambiance was warm and the space was clean and inviting. Bathrooms were also clean and stocked. Parking was pretty tough, especially since there was protest a block away. 4-1/2 stars. Made a reservation at 12PM and was promptly seated indoors. Staff were very-friendly and came to check up on us frequently. Ordered an assortment of dishes to share, including bone marrow butter, ube pandan waffles, noodle broth with oxtail, and loco moco. Portions were fairly generous to be split among us, and we were very full in the end. The verdict: Bone marrow butter (4.5/5): a tad on the salty side, but rich and decadent; it especially paired well with the toasted bread. Ube pandan waffles (4/5): I enjoyed the earthy-sweet taste on the ube side, but I didn't taste much, if anything, from the pandan side. Nice, crispy waffles, though, with plenty of ube cream and fruit to go along with it. Noodle broth with oxtail (5/5): the star of the show! The broth (cooked 36 hours) was light, yet complex in flavor-- also comforting like a warm hug. Noodles were wonderfully al-dente, and the oxtail was fall-off-the-bone tender. I'd happily get this again. Loco Moco (3.5/5): the weakest of the group, as I found the massive beef patty a bit too tough and thick, but the garlic rice and sunny side up egg were decent. Overall, a unique and delicious brunch spot serving up Filipino-Hawaiian dishes. I saw multiple reviews of food being too salty here but still wanted to try...and those reviews didn't disappoint. Oxtail dumplings were the most mid and overpriced dumplings I've ever had. Mushy filing, undercooked wrapper dunked in soy dressing. The lamb chop was also a salt bomb but whats worse is a piece of it was completely uncooked inside. We were so pissed and sent it back immediately. They ended up taking it off our bill as requested. They also charge 20% fixed fee... not impressed by the quality of food at all. read more

We came during brunch on a Sunday and they were quite busy. Although we had no reservation, our wait wasn't very long, maybe less than 30 minutes. From the beginning we noticed how friendly the service was. I had the loco moco, and it was great. The portion was not too small. My friend had ordered the tocilog and that was also very delicious. I saw the owner walking around and checking on tables, which I thought was great. The dishes I ordered were, to my great dismay, where my dislikes arose from. I ordered the oxtail dumplings and cauliflower coconut side dish. The oxtail dumplings were on the precipice of being too salty. The broth on its own was nice, and the dumplings were fine on their own but together, it was just too salty. The flavors are definitely pronounced and robust. Flavor is not lacking. However, because of the salt it caused the other seasonings to feel way too concentrated and my palate was overwhelmed to the point where I simply could not enjoy the dish. I really gave it multiple chances but I ended up leaving a dumpling behind bc I gave up. As a note, that says a lot because I tend to like saltier foods. The coconut milk cauliflower was also nearly too salty. I ordered it because the waitress described it as being very light with a coconut, fresh and bright lime dressing. I thought, perfect! Something light. Well, it was not. I couldn't tell the dressing was coconut milk; I really wondered if it was mayonnaise. The lime went unnoticed. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked with great texture but over all the sauce was heavy, oily and rich. The pork floss was an interesting touch but made some bites too salty. With every visit to Bone Kettle comes the expectation that it will be delightful and we will go home with leftovers. Both were true this time as well. I loved having Theia wait on us - she was attentive without hovering and she didn't seem defensive when we mentioned that the clams and donuts, although tasty, was just a bit too salty. She offered to have the kitchen fix it but I just asked for a container to go so that I could do something with it when we got home. Guess what - I just added a little water and a few herbs and it was still so good. The lechon is perfect. So crispy and light! It was so fun chewing slowly and hearing it crunch in my mouth. Lots of value for money here because they give you a big portion. The star of the meal was the rendang carbonara. I was shocked that it didn't feel heavy or cloying. I could clearly taste the rendang despite it being fused into the carbonara. This is my favorite dish for the month, maybe even the year! I'm going to spend a lot of my free time figuring out how to replicate this in my kitchen. My husband and I are figuring out when our next date night will be so we can come back to Bone Kettle. I've been to bone kettle a couple times and every time I'm wowed by the unique and flavorful dishes! bone kettle does south asian fusion dishes extremely well and on top of their dishes looking amazing, they taste amazing as well! we tried the ube gnocchi, chicken satay, nasi goreng, and rendang carbonara and there were no misses! all dishes were cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. my favorite definitely would have been the nasi goreng though as it was especially flavorful with the sauce on the side. the staff were extremely kind and helpful with explaining the menu to us and recommending items and I'm excited to come back next time and try more dishes! read more

Soo goodd Came here with my friends on a Saturday evening and we were all satisfied by the quality of the food, service, and ambiance of the restraunt. We ordered the oxtail dumplings, bone marrow, Nasi goreng with chicken, and carbonara udon. I ABSOLUTELY LOVEDD the oxtail dumplings. The oxtail was so tender and juicy, the meat quite literally melted in my mouth. The vinegary soy sauce sauce also complimented the dumpling well. I also loved the texture of the dumpling skin. The skin was the perfect amount of thickness. The bone marrow was also so so goood. It was seasoned so well and the bread that came with it was nice and toasty. The portions are definitely big enough to share. My friends and I ordered 4 dishes and we were all very stuffed. Will definitely be coming back here again! My girlfriend and I came to Bone Kettle for our anniversary, and the entire experience was incredible from start to finish. The service was warm, welcoming, and attentive--our server made us feel truly valued and taken care of throughout the night. We ordered the Nasi Goreng with Wagyu steak and the Carbonara pasta, finishing with the Matcha Tiramisu for dessert, and every single dish blew us away. The Nasi Goreng was absolutely phenomenal. The parking is a little bit tricky on the street so I would recommend parking in a garage and walking over. We had a reservation and it was easy to get in and get seated. I went during the weekend and I didn't realize it would be for a brunch menu and was kind of sad because I was looking forward to some dinner menu items that I wasn't able to try. We got the bone broth with flank steak and with oxtail and brisket so three in total. Out of all three I would say that the best was oxtail hands-down not only was oxtail super larger in portion, but it was super tender and tasty. The brisket was described on the menu as "fatty", but it was a little bit more on the leaner side, still tender, but lean. The broth was really good flavor and you can definitely tell that it was made with love and care. Overall 4/5! I got the steak and eggs and was nervous that they didn't take the a temperature for the steak because I was worried that it was gonna be too tough, however, the steak was cooked well and was tender throughout. It was paired well with peppers and onions and a generous portion of three eggs on top, but what was really special was the bread that they gave with the bone marrow butter that was super salty, but had so much umami in flavor! 4/5 We also got the fried shrimp appetizer, which had a little tiny kick to it, but was crunchy and flavorful. The food here is good you'll probably want to be back for round 2. My family went out here for Father's Day and we were pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. Hamachi Crudo 8/10 A refreshing yellowtail dish with yuzu and lime juice dressing and cilantro and jalapeno. It also has a nice kick as well. Oxtail Dumplings 10/10 Has a nice burst of flavor that is tangy, savory with a slightly sweet taste. Tender shredded oxtail stuffed dumpling skin laid on top of vinegar sauce and sesame oil and dressed with mushrooms. Chicken Satay 7/10 Too smoky for the chicken and it is a bit tough to eat but delightful marinate with the peanut sauce. Ube Gnocchi 6/10 Pork belly included is a nice touch but since it is mixed in with the coconut lime sauce the pork skin is very chewy and hard to eat. Gnocchi is starchy and does have a nice aftertaste of ube. Lechon 10/10 Although there are some parts that are a bit tough to eat, the pork skin makes up for it. This has the best crispy crunchy texture and flavor that won't stick to your teeth. The meat is tender and flavorful with a slight smokiness fragrance. The atchara or pickled shredded papaya is a good addition adding in a tangy and sweet profile. The toyomansi sauce brought a salty and a little sour flavor. Lychee Martini 8/10 It has a nice lychee flavor that isn't too sweet nor too strong. Refreshing with lemon notes and the sake infused. The staff were attentive to clearing up our finished dishes and told my dad a happy Father's Day which is nice. I went here on July 18, 2024. I got the crispy tempeh bone broth. It was so good, the veggies were crunchy and the vegan broth was superb. I loved the baby corn and carrots. It didn't taste different from the beef broth when I compared another family member's broth to mine. The broth was at the perfect temperature. The waitress was great, she attended to our needs. I had an exquisite experience here at Bone Kettle because the food was packed with rich flavors. It was also a delight because I was here celebrating my belated birthday along with my February birthday buddies. I also loved that it felt like a reunion with my UCLA girlfriends. My favorites was hands down the lamb shanks and the curry our table ordered. But there were so many more delicious eats that was currated throughout the night. I enjoyed their Char Siu Beets and bread appetizer with the eggplant smear. Nasi Goreng was delectable because it was the perfect staple we needed at the table to share that feels like a meal home away from home. I can't believe my first time coming here was this year. I wanted to try everything on the menu, it all sounds amazing. I went to a conference nearby at the Pasadena convention center and my friend and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. We made a reservation for 6:15, but it wasn't needed at this time. My friend was saying they are a popular brunch spot but I think they should be a popular dinner spot as well. We were seated inside near the bar and could instantly smell the devious aromas once walking in. I've been taking a break from drinking so I loved that there were nonalcoholic drinks available, but their cocktail menu was also fun. My friend ordered a margarita made with calamansi and myself an athletic brewing IPA (N.A.). We ended up trying their oxtail dumplings, pork belly sisig, papaya salad, and bone both ramen with brisket. I loved everything! I wish the papaya salad was spicy, but it was refreshing since the other dishes were heavier. The sisig came sizzling and the pork belly was crispy. The oxtail dumplings had such a bold tasty flavor and the bone broth was perfection. The soup was my favorite out all of them. DO NOT DINE HERE! One of the worst restaurants in Pasadena. Their food is subpar, especially if you get it to go. I ordered takeout through an app and they forced me to pay gratuity through the app, as they lock the option to remove gratuity. Then when I went to pick it up to pay, there was additional gratuity on the check that was separate for what's in the app. And then the app had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to add additional gratuity. I reached out to the owner and he ignored my concern. During my interaction, the host was kind but could not do anything about it. She asked the manager who did not come out of the back to interact with me. I was told that I needed to pay both gratuities, in app and in store. So at the end, I ended up paying 30% tip. If I didn't have a family at home waiting for their meal, I would have just left. I will never return to this place, and I would not recommend that you go either. It's so easy to just pay and not pay attention to the itemized receipt. This place is a total scam. read more

We got the steak salad, bone marrow butter with sourdough and drunken noodle with beef. The dressing on the steak salad paired perfectly with the arugula and the beef tartar was so tender. The drunken noodles were flavorful with the perfect amount of kick. The beef wasn't chewy or stringy at all. My favorite was the bone marrow butter. It was garlicky, salty, rich and creamy. I love this place. It's one of the restaurants I always think about when I'm in Pasadena. The ambiance is casual but classy, they have outdoor seating, and the service is always friendly. It can get busy especially in the evening so I would recommend a reservation. They have a lunch/dinner menu and a very unique brunch menu that has fusion dishes such as ube french toast, pandan and duck waffles, and loco moco. I really like their shrimp toast in particular, the curry sauce they serve it with really elevates it. However, I really do prefer their dinner which includes their bone marrow, bone kettle noodles and broth (your choice of meat but oxtail is the favorite), nasi goreng, oxtail dumplings, and garlic prawns. Love the oxtail dumplings, garlic prong, and bone marrow in particular. Parking can be challenging; street parking or one of the lots around the area. But it's worth it! read more

After diligently scrolling through countless options for Valentine's Day, choosing Bone Kettle was the WRONG MOVE. We were completely deceived by the thousands of positive reviews and mouth-watering photos--because that's all this place offered. One star for presentation/aesthetic is all it earns. To start, their dishes were not clean! I received a dirty cup, and when I asked for a new one, I was given yet another dirty cup! As for the food, the first dish we ordered was the Oxtail Dumplings, the most reviewed dish on Yelp. This appetizer was not appetizing. The skin was hard and dry, as if it had been plated and left sitting out. The filling was an absolute flop as well. The texture was just mush, as if they had simply blended the oxtail. To top it off, the dumplings bathed in a thick sauce that was extremely salty with a foreign tang that I did not enjoy. The next dish we ordered was the Carbonara Rendang, as it best encapsulated Filipino fusion. The flavor was not bad, but it completely missed the mark on texture. You would think the bacon would help, but it was not crispy at all and just tasted like mush. It got worse as the dish sat and cooled to room temperature. Overall, it tasted very average, with no sense of elevated fusion flavors to be detected anywhere. Lastly, the Bone Broth Ramen. This item took up a quarter of the menu and was placed right at the top, so we assumed it had to be a signature dish. We were heavily disappointed by how mediocre it was. The soup tasted like canned broth, and the ramen noodles--which are supposedly artisan handcrafted--looked and tasted like they came straight out of a Maruchan package. The brisket protein we chose was weirdly grainy and dry. If there is one thing I will credit this restaurant for, it is for providing us a good laugh at how astonishingly bad the food was. A long overdue review! I've been coming to Bone Kettle for years, and it's my one of my favorite restaurants! Some of my go-to dishes are the bone broth, garlic prawns, crab toast (haven't seen it on the menu in a while, but hope it comes back), nasi goreng (if you can splurge the ribeye cap is worth it) and their desserts and cocktails are great too! Came here for dinner Friday night and I was not disappointed!! Its right next to Bodegon 69 (see prior reviews). The inside is very nice. Its small but intimate. Very dark except for the small lamps on the tables. It was borderline difficult to see the menu actually... The booth seating was very comfortable. They have more staff here then patrons it seemed like. Sunny (or Sonny) was very helpful. Gave menu suggestions, and was just super friendly. Really enjoyed conversating with him. We were sitting right in front of the kitchen doors. So everything you saw the doors open you get a strong whiff of what they were making. Fried calamari- it was cooked using fish sauce and calamansi. So it didnt require any kind of dipping sauce. The calamari was sweet and salty and full of umami. It was amazing!! Never had it this way. But it was perfection. 3. Poke with taro chips- thin crispy chips served as a great vehicle for the poke. Generous portions for an appetizer. Everything here is family style, including the entrees, which we ordered their: 1. Fried striped bass- this was an entire bass deep fried. It was kept intact. Presentation was stunning. Crispy skin. Flaky soft white meat inside. With the sauce they had on the side, it was really good. 2. Singaporean lobster- not a whole lobster (and the price reflected that) in udon noodles. Slightly spicy sauce, but not too spicy. Udon was slightly aldente which gave it a nice bite. Lobster meat was already removed from the shell so easy to eat. 3. Lechon- the crispiness of the skin was next level. The knife bounced right off! Great flavors. It was so soft and just oozing in juices. It was really good. 4. Broth with ox tail- their broth was really good. Deep flavors. It really broke down the fattiness of the dinner we were having. Really cleansed the palate. The drinks were very beautiful and stunning visually. Each drink was unique and the colors were just so amazing. Great flavors too!! 1. One night in manila- this was like a halo halo dessert with alcohol!! They had the jellies in there and the ube. It was so pretty!! And good!! It was in a slushy type form. 2. Passion fruit mojito- light, refreshing. Definitely taste the passion fruit. 3. Kuya Gimlet- this was also very good. 4. Potion number 8- beautifully crafted cocktail. Tasted amazing. We had a great time here. The food was amazing. Drinks were phenomenal. Vibes were cozy and upscale. Service was quick and friendly. The bill does add up though!! And for 4 people they automatically add a 20% service charge which I dont like at all. You should at least let the customers know beforehand. Not needing to sign the receipt which is weird. Their weekday lunch menu and normal dinner menu are stellar, but I'm sad to say their weekend brunch menu disappointed us. Do not get the soft shell crab with squid ink waffles if you are not used to squid ink. Soft shell crabs were cooked well and very meaty. But the waffle was a bit too fishy for my taste and did not balance well with the crab. The black pepper steak was more like strips of beef rather than a steak. Overpowering and oily sauce. The loco moco was okay but nothing to write home about. The savory redeeming factors of this meal were the salted egg prawns and the sourdough with bone marrow butter that came with the steak. Desserts were awesome though. The ube Basque cheesecake was soooo good, a must order! Overall conclusion: I would come again for a date night or special occasion with a small party 2-4 max. We ordered 4 items between us two and left really full, total bill was $98. Quite a splurge for us, but it was a nice dinner that we don't do often. Esp with restaurant prices these days, it wasn't that bad given the quality of the food. Cauliflower pork floss: 7.4 this was good, very 단백한 flavor, but too oily. Could've used some kind of citrus to cut through. Oxtail Dumpling: 8.0 really flavorful and in a strong sauce that packed a lot of punch. I think it was a tad too vinegary and only 5 dumplings for $21 might be too steep lol. Would not get again but did not regret it. Jidori Chicken Satay: 9.2 this was one of the best chicken satay I ever had. This was also fairly generous as they gave 5 skewers (so like 20 pieces of chicken total) and was cheaper than the dumplings. Grilles flavors on point. Sauce tasted kind of molassesy. Peanut sauce was really peanut buttery so that was nice. I wish I had some chili fish sauce to go with it, might very been a 9.4. And a little extra char would've been 9.5. The chicken was extremely tender though and would definitely recommend and get again. Bone broth noodle soup with top sirloin: 8.5 deep broth flavor and very tender beef. I might get again. It tasted like a very rich pho with saimin noodles and elevated meat. I think it's their signature dish (?) but I think the broth may have been a little confusing. The aroma was like pho but the flavors felt a little thrown off - I theorize too much carrot. There were a surprising number of carrots in our soup and I think it made it akin to a beef stew, which I think clashed with the pho-like essence. I would not have added carrots in the broth. Overall, we really enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance. Would come again on a right occasion. (OH and they say "tipless establishment but it's more accurately forced, standardized tip of 20%. If you don't want to pay 20% for bad service...don't go here. This restaurant automatically adds 20% to your bill. We arrived at 1:15 p.m., almost an hour and half before the kitchen closes. We waited for 10 minutes for service. Once we ordered, we were told by the waiter that the kitchen closes at 2:30. I thought it an unusual statement since we were ordering well before the kitchen closing. The food was good. The service was most rude and intrusive. We couldn't have a leisurely lunch, since the waiter kept telling us the kitchen was closing at 2:30. He hovered over us. I was trying to sip my glass of wine. I didn't finish it, since the server was so intent on getting us out exactly at 2:30. I would never had paid the service 20% for this service. And though the food is good, I won't be back until the restaurant changes this 20% service charge. read more
