It's all about the mushroom swiss (as the friend who first took me to Boomers elaborates on her vivid distaste for mushrooms, which is of course simply unfortunate on her part). Of course, the serious charm of this place is the old school drive-in feel. You park outside, and turn your lights on for service (or you can go inside and dine, but hey, that's not as idiosyncratic). Cue the oldies and order up a burger, waffle fries, and milkshake, and get back to some classic Americana! I was lucky to be joined this evening by a club of Vintage Volkswagen enthusiasts showing off their Bugs and Buses. It's a party out at the drive-in, for real. But the party outside was soon joined by the proverbial party in my mouth at the taste of the fabulous mushroomyness and swissness of that mushroom swiss. Yum! Boomers is a little 50s drive in diner with a decent amount of food on the menu. As others have said, the waffle fries are heavenly! I just wish you could choose sizes since the bag of fries is pretty small. The burgers are a good size though and delicious. I'm also a fan of their corndogs. The stadium dog is what I go there for. Covered in mustard, relish and raw onion, it's the perfect lunch for me. That is, when whoever makes it actually gets the order right. This is the second time in the last two weeks that someone has put ketchup on my order and, yes, it now warrants a review in Yelp. I even went so far as to ask the server to please make sure there is no ketchup. Like many, I am one of those who thinks ketchup goes with fries and that's it! I drive away, head back to work, and have to scrape yucky ketchup off my $8.39 meal. Not pleased, thought you should know! Service was good, fast, and typical for drive-in burger joint. The shakes are delicious made with real ice cream, and fresh fruit. I had a pineapple milkshake that was delicious. Waffle fries were good, a little over salted, and onion rings are very crispy, making them delicious. All burger's were on special for anniversary. $3.19 was an excellent price for them. I wouldn't pay any more. Just not worth $5-6 for a overly loaded mayonaise, special sauce burger. I don't like mayonnaise on a burger. I wish they would have listed on ingredients because I would have asked for dry. It was just too much soggy lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and bun drenched in special sauce, and grease. Fun fact: I called ahead to ask if they had pet friendly seating, like an outdoor patio or something because I'd never been there before, and they said yes. I arrive, and it's a drive in. Ha! Pet friendly seating as in...your pet can sit in your...car?? Haha. That was great. Anyway, the burger was good but I did not like the special sauce. It was like a sweet mayo which is not my jam. This was the first place I ate at when we moved to Bellingham. After 5 years, we are still pleased as ever with the food and service. Waffle Fries, oh how I love waffle fries. Great Selection of burgers. They alse have curly fries, halibut and chips, deep fried mushrooms and great milkshakes (we get mint chocolate chip shakes, yum!) In the winter, they have a gas fireplace going inside. Convenient to call in your orders and pick them up at the drive in. They also have a punch card for burgers. read more

An excellent alternative to your typical fast food franchise. You can get a delicious, juicy burger and waffle fries for the same price or less than you'd pay at McDonalds for the average combo meal. The drive-in experience is convenient, and more pleasant than inching your way thru a drive-thru line and screaming in a staticky speaker box! Waitstaff takes your order and delivers your food right to your car window. You can also place your order at the register inside and dine in at a table, but seating is limited and it can be difficult to get a seat during busy hours. I couldn't force myself to take more than 2 bites even after scraping off the goop. Sweet potato fries- I've had really tasty sweet potato fries, these are not them. Over salted or too salty, each bite was slightly less appetizing than the last. I did finish them however. Strawberry shake- Would have totally redeemed everything else if it were possible. I won't be back for anything but the shake. Waitress/service- Speedy, delightful and courteous- also might have redeemed the food if it were possible. My family loves going to Boomer's! It's a great place to get a burger and sit in the car and just have fun. I'm not super impressed with the beef (my husband is) but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the corndogs! The waffle fries are ok. They only have combos, burger fries and pop (#2) or shake (#1) for $6-7. If you get a specialty burger, fries and drink are separate and it can cost north of $9. We will definitely return because everyone in the family finds something to enjoy, I just think the price is a bit steep for the quality! read more

Boomers is one of those legendary places in Bellingham. I have eaten here for 10 years. When I was attending WWU (which is a 15 minute walk away), I dare admit that I would buy a week's worth of burgers during the anniversary sale and "treat myself" to a burger every morning during finals week. Those days are gone, but my love of Boomers burgers lives on. It's best to order your meals outside the prime times of lunch and dinner as this place becomes a madhouse especially during the aforementioned anniversary sale! The manager on duty credited my wife's meal and said the next time my family did boomers it would be on boomers. I felt it fair as my wife ate alone. Let's just say that I've been wanting to try Boomers out for quite a while! So, after hiking the Oyster Dome and getting quite an appetite, I decided to reward myself and finally try it out. I was pretty disappointed unfortunately. I ordered the Boomer Burger and waffle fries. The waffle fries were amazing, perfectly crispy with the right amount of tasty seasoning. The burger was awful, just....awful. Just imagine a very processed, frozen patty that was thrown in a microwave...that's what I got (I think?) It was bad. Luckily the "special sauce" somewhat covered up the taste of the burger. I was not a fan of the pickles either. Maybe it was a just a fluke?
