I had to visit this place during my trip to Boston. Of course, at least one tourist trap is needed per trip. I ordered the Lobster Chowder. It was ok. Nothing extremely special. The chowder itself was expected, but the lobster chunks were cold. It threw me off. I wished that instead of just throwing in cold lobster pieces, it was at least able to sit in the heat of the broth for a more pleasurable bite. There were sufficient lobster pieces though, which was the good part. This place was recommended by a family member while I was visiting Boston. Even though we have access to some great seafood in the West Coast, there's still something quite special about East Coast lobster. You can't miss this place. When I went, soon as I entered Quincy Market and spotted a long line, I knew where it was. If you look at the price alone, it does look quite expensive. But then I think about the lobster pastas I've ordered in the past where I paid the same price and got half the amount of lobster, the price of the rolls sound quite reasonable then. The lobster was delicious. I'm no lobster connoisseur and maybe New England offers better lobster elsewhere but if this was my last impression of Boston food-wise then it was more than satisfactory. The busyness of the market is something I accepted, even enjoyed, as a tourist coming from a suburban area and traveling into the city but I can't imagine that it would be fun as a local to traverse the crowds to get this food. While there are many places where you can post up or find a seat in the market, it does not guarantee that you will have a table or be eating comfortably. It tasted great with what might have been Ol Bay Seasoning. It could have used some celery or mayo in the mix but was delicious. The Chowder tasted good but was thin as water. Really turned us off. We stopped by Quincey Market while in the midst of walking the Freedom Trail. While surveying all of the different food options available (and there are many!), one dish really stood out to me: The Lobster Mac and Cheese Pie at Boston Chowda! Mac and Cheese has always been, and will likely always be, one of my favorite all time dishes. Mix in some lobster chunks in there and I am sold! Maybe it was just the luck of the draw, but my pie had a lot of large chunks of lobster all throughout the pie. The cheese was thick and gooey and the combo was scrumptious! I finished the pie in short order and it was deceptively filling, but very satisfying. Service was adequate. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and it was crazy busy, so it was a little disorganized. We got there eventually though. The employees were never rude, but seemed kind of over it. The food is ready relatively quick, and they make the lobster roll in front of you. We ate outside, sitting on a nearby curb, since there weren't any tables available when we went. The clam chowder was good, and the bread bowl made it even more filling. It had chunks of meat in it and the chowder was steaming hot. The lobster roll was pretty good as well, but it wasn't really hot, more lukewarm. The amount of lobster, however, was very generous. Overall, the food was pretty good. My only complaint is that it was relatively pricey, which is rather understandable because it is definitely located in a hot tourist destination. Finally returned to Boston after three years! First stop was lunch at Quincy Market. It was around 2pm, so the food hall wasn't too crowded. I stopped at Boston Chowda that offered a meal with a lobster roll (cold or hot), a cup of clam chowder and a small drink. Easy decision. When I received the food, I was very surprised by the generous portion of the lobster roll (I had the one with hot butter). As you can see in the picture, there was a generous portion of lobster meat between the soft and buttery roll. A little squeeze of lemon helped balanced the richness from the butter.
