I ordered a loaf of bread through Uber Eats and picked it up in person. It was ordered sliced. When I got home and opened it, it was unsliced! I took it back a couple of days later to have it sliced. A historic location - the first Boudin! There is a plaque outside to note this location's 100+ year legacy. There are baked goods in the case, but you are here for the famous sourdough, which you can get in baguette, rolls, or bread bowl form, among other options. They also sell clam chowder, which tasted fine but wasn't my favorite compared to Fisherman's Wharf or Seattle Pike. The other big thing is the sourdough crust pizza here. This one is only a grab and go location, so there's no where to sit and enjoy your food. You have to get it as takeout. No big deal, but be prepared. There's no where to park, save a 15 (10?) minute parking meter right outside where you have to keep refreshing the meter if your time runs out. Still worth visiting if you're a Boudin fan or want to see a bit of SF culinary history. The sidewalk outside has the names of the previous chefs etched out into the concrete. read more

I'm disappointed. Many moons ago I came here as a kid, and wanting to give it another try, I stopped by. Inside, the store is a little cramped; it has a decent selection of baked goods including various loaves of bread and some pastries. Seeing that they were selling sourdough pizza, I ordered the bruschetta. It came out within less than 10 minutes, which can be either a good or bad sign, this time it was the latter. Outwardly, it looked like a bigger version of a Lunchables pizza with a similar taste but without the nostalgia. The undercarriage was soft without even the slightest crispiness. The cheese was bland and the tomato sauce, had that signature canned bitter taste and there was not the slightest taste of bruschetta. It is classic San Francisco sourdough - that's almost all that needs to be said! Dear Hubby and I were passing through The City on Monday and made the pilgrimage to Boudin's in the Avenues. He was able to grab a parking place out front while I dashed into their retail take-away space. A full complement of various types of sourdough filled the baker's racks. They were all nicely labeled to make it easy to see what varieties were ready for purchase. I was interested in the olive bread, but went with classic sourdough. Purchased two loaves - one I had sliced as we were taking it to our grandson as a gift. The other I asked to be placed in a plastic sleeve to preserve the freshness to bring home to SoCal. It arrived in great shape! This retail bakery space is small but mighty. Not fancy, but not just utilitarian, either. It has a modest vibe, and the stars of the show are the bread loaves. A very friendly gentleman was handling the orders and elevated my visit with our brief conversation. It's not just a taste from my childhood, it's also a connection to all the wonderful flavor journeys that sourdough evokes. Long live Boudin! I wish them endless years of continued success. I was very excited to get myself a Friday treat on the way to work. Boudins used to have the best chocolate croissants. The one I got was cold, dry, and had almost no chocolate in it. I got a latte too. It's supposed to be a double shot. The milk wasn't warmed up and it's extremely watery. Absolutely not being going back to ever again. With tip it was $11.38. Used to live in the neighborhood a few years ago and visited Boudin Bakery often, and it was very good. When my wife and I were in the neighborhood a few weeks ago, and we went to Boudin's on 10th Avenue and bought 3 loaves of bread...sourdough and olive. We gave two loaves to our neighbor who loves Boudin's sourdough, and he always buys a few loaves when he visits SF. But, all 3 loaves were stale, and not worth eating! Our neighbor agreed. We paid twenty something dollars for stale bread that we used to make croutons! That's really poor, Boudins! Never again! My visits number 1 or 2 times each month depending on how quickly I go through Bread, and if my schedule allows multiple visits to pickup a large oval of sliced Sourdough. The shop has a great fresh bread selection, and the loaves can be requested sliced. If you are local make sure to use their mobile application, this will reward you with a monthly bread credit. Pretty abysmal service. I tried to redeem my coupon for a free cookie on my birthday and they wouldn't accept it. Even though it was my birthday and I had an email from them. And this was on my birthday. So on my birthday, this place actively humiliated me in front of the other people in line, by making me give the cookie back. They wouldn't help at all try to troubleshoot what was wrong. The low point of birthdays for me in recent years, all thanks to the boudin bakery on 10th Avenue. What a shame. I can't believe it took me this long to write a review for this place! I was visiting SF back at the end of May and I heard tales of amazing local sourdough. Some quick research led me to the historic Boudin Bakery and I knew I had to give it a try. I was up early to make my way down the PCH for a day of hiking in Big Sur. I knew I needed something substantial to keep me full throughout the day of driving, sightseeing, and walking. Boudin Bakery was exactly what I needed! Although they have several locations, this one was the most conveniently located to my hotel. Street parking was a breeze in the morning and I managed to snag a spot right across from the entrance. When I was there, the store was careful to only let one customer inside at a time per Covid-19 precautions. I thought that was very smart considering it is a small space and it certainly made me feel more comfortable. I ordered a turkey sandwich with lettuce, cheese, and mayo on the famous sourdough roll and a medium coffee. After I placed my order, I couldn't help but look at all the sweet treats in the display too... I just HAD to order something else. The cashier was kind enough to ring me up again for an almond croissant - normally I would expect someone to get a little annoyed at my indecision but she remained friendly and patient. As she poured my coffee, she made sure to ask me if she was leaving enough room for cream and she carefully poured it to my liking. As someone who can be picky about my coffee, I loved the fact that she took her time to ensure I was getting my coffee the way I liked it! When I got in the car, I immediately unwrapped my sandwich to reveal this gorgeously huge sourdough sandwich. No wonder they're so famous for it! I ate half in the morning and another half at lunchtime on Pfeiffer Beach. It was enough sustenance to last me the day and it was delicious! This little Boudin location opens at 6am. Perfect for an early snack. I had their ham cheese croissant $4.25 and a cup of clam chowder $7. The croissant is not bad. They don't heat it up though; you know, to melt the cheese. The clam chowder came with a little piece of sourdough bread to dip into the soup. Quite frankly, the clam chowder at Safeway had more clams. I did enjoy this cup of chowder. There are much better clam chowder throughout the city.
