I was in the right lane going east on Decoto toward Fremont Blvd and the boudin driver quickly squeezed between my car and the truck in front of me, without warning or blinker, within inches of hitting me! My wife and I enjoyed a tasty lunch the other day. It was raining and a bit cold, so we headed to Boudin SF to warm-up and fill our bellies. It was fairly crowded when we arrived, but managed to find a table. It seems other people had the same idea we did. We both ordered the Pick Two for lunch. I enjoyed a bowl of clam chowder with a half short rib melt sandwich. The clam chowder was perfect for the weather and the sandwich was very tasty. The short rib melt came with a toasted slice of sourdough bread and tender short rib and onions. I'll have to try ordering a full short ribs melt upon my next visit, since it was that good. My wife had a bowl of clam chowder and a half BLTA sandwich, which she enjoyed. She likes that the sandwich came with several slices of fresh avocado too. I've always loved Boudin for their clam chowder in the bread bowl because it just hits the spot every single time. Recently, their salads have been my favorite and I always make sure to grab one with my order. I've seen a lot of negative reviews about the customer service on this location, but personally, I witnessed a situation handled with such grace with the manager, Donna and a customer who wasn't so happy. As I was waiting for my order, I watched Donna practice extreme kindness to this customer who was obviously so angry about her order. Donna, being the manager who had just gotten in for the day, handled the situation with such care and never gave any attitude back. She exemplified kindness with a complimentary pack of bread and even a gift card to Boudin! She didn't have to do that but she did and I think that shows how this restaurant cares about their customers. I thought that exemplified such grace and was super thoughtful. Working customer service can be exhausting but this group did it with care and never once got frustrated with the customer. THAT shows much. Service was friendly and attentive, they did make a mistake on my salad so they re-made it for me and gave me an extra roll for the wait. I enjoyed my modified Cobb Salad (no chicken, no bacon, add avocado) to make it vegetarian-- it tasted fresh and filling and came with a sourdough roll. Well done! I used the catering service for a lunch I was doing at a Fly Fishing show and Boudin did not disappoint! The sandwiches were great and delivered on time. There was more than one person that told me how much they enjoyed their lunch AND I noticed that almost all of the boxes were empty. Working with Caroline was great and we were able to work out timing and where to meet at the venue. The driver was very nice and helpful. The sandwich boxes were all recyclable, another plus for me. The place isn't that bad. Parking can be painful because it's small and it is shared with Whole Foods, a bank, and a few other stores. We ordered pickup and for the price, I am just not sure it's worth it. But the foods not bad. Their pizza is $20.99 for a classic pepperoni. A little over $11 for an okay sized salad. Although I asked for no cilantro and it was still in there, which immediately made me not really like the salad. I also got the asian chicken salad and unfortunately it didn't really taste like an asian chicken salad to me. It tasted more like it had just a light balsamic vinaigrette in it. As for the timing of the food, it was ready in a good amount of time, simple to order and they're very organized in the pickup. This isn't the first time I've been here. Yesterday had lunch at Boudin SF. Thought this was pretty cool since its the original Boudin so was excited to check it out. They had the menu boards very systematic compared to other Boudin franchises I've been too. Thisnone was very simple to read and was easy to navigate. Even though the lines were somewhat big because it is SF the chefs and cashiers made the whole process run so smoothly. We ordered wsited just a few moments and our food was out in about 8 minutes. Our orders were 3 chicken pesto sandwiches and 2 tomato basils and 1 clam chowder. We all did the 1/2 sandwhich and 1/2 soup combo. Always love the tomato basil when Income here. The croutons just melt into the soup and the tomato flavor just tastes so fresh. My friend tried this resturant for the first time and loved it especially the soup. I thought everything was great. The only rhing was just the bread could have been a bit more soft on the sandwhich because it had a crunch. However, the ingredients and everything else were so fresh and yummy. It was my first time trying out this place today. Wasn't a big fan. Got the veggie sandwich. It was extremely dry. There wasn't any sauce or condiments in it which gave it a nice flavor . I want to start out by mentioning how much I love Boudin's food and bread. Boudin over Panera all day. The rating is specifically for the awful service at the Fremont location. Orders are never correct or is missing an item, portions seem much smaller here than at other locations. I always seem to end up with a stomach ache after eating their salads. I've already reached out to their corporate leadership team about these issues and received very little compassion. Hate to see this lack of service from such a great eating establishment. She refused and offered only 4 slices which does not even equal a bread bowl. I was irritated at this point. Its Christmas eve and I took the girls for lunch. It was pretty dead in the restaurant other than a few people picking up bread for their dinners and events. After waiting a long time and no food coming out (40 mins) we approached the lady at the counter and she seemed confused. I've been here twice. Both times were for to-go orders. Both times something was missing. From what I've heard by other people who have gone here, it's a usual occurrence. The first time I ordered a clam chowder bread bowl. I didn't get the bread bowl, and when I asked for it i was given a COLD bread bowl and the top wasn't even cut out. So more like a cold loaf of sourdough bread. This time around I ordered the brie, fig jam and apple grilled cheese. This was part a large order for my family. We were missing a salad. The sandwich was good. I liked it a lot. The other grilled cheese sandwiches in our order weren't as good. They were over toasted so the bread was pretty hard. The clam chowder is ok. Went to get my bread of the month with first, a transaction. Diana S. rang the chips and proceeded to get the bread. I paid as I thought all was good. The phone number was not inputted in the system, so she wanted me to purchase something else to get the bread. I was in the area and wanted to pick up a quick sandwich to eat while running errands. I put in a Grubhub order through Yelp at 11:30AM and got there at 11:45AM. Still no mobile confirmation that my order was being worked on or was ready. I walked inside- the counter was full of takeout orders and employees were too busy to help with questions. I waited in the curbside pickup parking slot for an entire hour until I called in and a worker told me my order was finally ready. It took her another 15 min to walk outside and deliver to the curbside parking slot. When I finally opened the bag- disappointment! I have gotten better sandwiches at a corner store. 2 slices of cold, un toasted sourdough, a thin slice of cheddar cheese, 2 slices of roast beef, and a sparing amount of veggies. That night, my grub hub order was still "in process". Poor quality food, awful order fulfillment, and crazy long wait times. The salad is a generous size but I prefer the dressing on the side as it's a bit more dressing than I like. Also had the Butternut Squash soup side. More than enough to go with the sandwich. Unfortunately, the only hot drink they offer are basic coffee, regular or decaf and black tea or chamomile tea. Not an awful selection, but I've gotten spoiled by usually having some nice coffee choices available especially when there are pastries. BUT if you're interested they sell wine and beer. The sourdough, of course, is wonderful. You can't go wrong. The service today was spotty. My food was delivered efficiently but silently. My neighbor's food was delivered with a "would you like salt and pepper or hot sauce or is there anything we can do to make your visit better?". Different server. But maybe I looked more scary than my neighbor. This was my third trip to this location. Always been clean, well staffed and received my food in a timely manner. We received the worst customer service and received the wrong meal. My wife ordered a salad. No salad was served. I ordered a soup. No soup was served, though I paid for these items. I felt "ripped off". I paid for items that were not delivered. When I brought this matter to the attention of the manager ( Who refused to give me his name. The manager looked to be a male in early 20's and had black hair.) My complaint was not taken seriously. He rapidly gave me some of my money back. I did not believe the manager or any of the staff care about customer service, food quality or simple business practices. I will never eat at this place again. I will make sure to tell all my friends in the community of Fremont and Newark not to eat at this eatery since they have terrible customer service and think "ripping customers off" is funny.
