Boulevard was a beautiful and elegant restaurant. I enjoyed their unique options for starters, entrees, and dessert. I opted for 2 starters instead for an extra upcharge. Throughout the night, there is also bread and butter service. I was plenty full before I even got to my entree which was a sea bass. Pictured are only the starters I shared with my partner. The starters knocked it out of the park, but I felt the sea bass was pretty bland. Another party in my group had a banana chocolate dessert including just parts of a raw banana. Some parts of the course were stellar, but definitely felt like some other dishes did not shine or were elevated enough for this restaurant. There were multiple times that the seating also posed an issue as well, with a server tripping and dropping some food, and myself not being able to squeeze between my own group and another on both sides. The restaurant may want to reconsider the furniture arrangement in light of this issue, and for reference I am 120lbs. Overall, some dishes were great, but did not match the $125 base prix fixed menu price ask. read more

Boulevard was our special dining location during our recent trip to San Francisco, and we had a wonderful time. Service here was superb. We noted that we were celebrating an anniversary for our dinner, and the maitre'd congratulated us upon checkin and thanked us for spending our anniversary with them. In addition, they left a lovely card autographed by the staff for us at our table. Cocktails are excellent, including the house speciality, the classic Boulevardier, and the Vieux Carre. Their wine menu is extensive, as one would expect, and had many French selections, including a runway of Chateauneuf-du-Papes. As we were splurging I opted for a 2008 Domaine de la Janasse Viellies Vignes, which was excellent. Our food was excellent. I began with an abalone appetizer which was great, but consisted mostly of mushrooms noodles and calamari. Only one sample of abalone - I would have preferred more. For dinner we both landed with the filet, rare, was delicious. It was accompanied by a mushroom souffle, which was divine and something I had never encountered before. It was at once light and ethereal from the souffle with rich earthy notes from the mushrooms. A pure delight. Desserts were extravagant - I had a multi-faceted chocolate offering which was superb. A word of warning - do not get the pork chop. It was dry. The only drawbacks were that I was hoping for something more exotic on the menu, like venison or pheasant or bison. There were no foie gras options, either. Additionally, our wine had a good deal of sediment (which is always a good sign), but the sommelier was not equipped with a strainer when decanting the wine - and of course, the wine at the bottom with the sediment is the richest of the bottle. As a result I self filtered to achieve full oenophilic enjoyment. The decor here is maximalist in dark blue and green hues, with luxurious velvet chairs in which to enjoy your delicious, spendy dinner. We'd return when we make it back to the Bay. read more

Our Waymo was confused so we were late to our reservation and the staff was so accommodating and moved our reservation back no issue even though it was a very busy Saturday night. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and they presented him with a card and a complimentary dessert. Our service was fantastic, very attentive. I had the beet and cherry salad which was fabulous. My husband chose mushroom, asparagus risotto and loved it, said best risotto he has had even beats restaurants in Italy. Our entrees were very good and the presentation outstanding. We had the pork chop and halibut. The setting was very old school with white table cloths, and gorgeous mix of tile, booths and table and bar stools facing the kitchen. Our waiter and bus staff were on it, they were attentive, fun and knowledgeable and very nice. We have been here a few times over the years and are so glad we chose to return to celebrate his birthday. Could not recommend this restaurant more highly. Also the cheese cake creme brûlée dessert was excellent! read more

Early dinner post-Christmas, party of four. Seated upon arrival, menus brought. We ordered sparkling water while looking over the menu and after a few questions (dietary restrictions), we ordered cocktails. The Cape Merry was tasty, and the gruener veltliner, refreshing. The three-course menu is the only option in the dining room; you can order ala carte at the bar. Before the first course arrived, we were presented with an amuse bouche, consisting of endive, a lightly fried veggie chip in a dollop of a vegetal green mousse (forgot what it was). It was ok, but nothing special. Bread service followed, also ok. Our first course appetizers were the goat cheese amandine, the burrata with beets, and the guinea hen ravioli. The warm, breaded goat cheese was balanced by the sharpness of the arugula and radicchio. The burrata and beets salad and the 3 guinea hen ravioli with winter truffle and caramel-date sauce were both fine. We went with the sommelier's recommendation for wines by the glass. The Dehlinger chardonnay and the french chablis went well with our entrees: the sea bass, the halibut and the pork chop. I chose the "Arctic Shelf"sea bass (After attempting to find info online about an "arctic shelf" sea bass and finding no such fish in the Arctic, I asked our server. She said it was a "joke" by the chef?!). The mystery seabass was perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful (I particularly enjoyed the accompanying chanterelles). We also had the northern halibut (also perfectly cooked), and the large, juicy Berkshire pork chop. For our dessert course we chose the rose apple profiterole w/vanilla ice cream, the sticky toffee pudding, the yuzu lemon cheesecake and the affogato with salted caramel ice cream (and a very good cannoli). As with the mains, everything was good, and we enjoyed our choices. After clearing dessert plates, our server brought a small plate of mignardise (ours were quarter-sized chocolate-coated disks with burgundy-colored dragees on top). The dining room had a softly lit, cozy ambiance, the service was professional yet friendly, the courses came out in good order. I felt the amuse bouche and appetizers were the weakest part of the meal. Entrees were cooked perfectly, desserts were fine, yet nothing was particularly memorable. In total, we had a nice dining experience. I would go again, but there are other restaurants to try first. read more

This restaurant truly earned its Michelin Star, with a beautiful dinning room, great food, and a staff that is friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Now to the fun part, the food! Boulevard is a shadow of its former self - well know Michelin 1 Star. My wife and I ate here this past Saturday for her birthday. The interior is has beautiful bones but could use a facelift when compared to other restaurants at this price point. We had appetizers (a tomato salad and ahi tuna) both were overwhelming average. We preferred the salad over the tuna. For our main course we ordered Seabass. It had no flavor and was very fishy. But this time we knew to skip dessert. All this for $250. Enough folks speak of the stunning space so I won't comment, other than to say it competes worldwide. And now with the new Bay Bridge lights... We arrived for an early dinner at the bar at the strike of 5:01. From the moment we were greeted the experience was wonderful. Sophie at the bar paced each course, and did not rush. It was also clear that the staff is a team that worked together to provide guests with an overall positive experience. So the food - my favorite- yes is the asparagus tempura appetizer. Simple, yet so great. There was not a miss in our order. We wanted to order dessert, but way too full. I also want to call out the non-alcoholic cocktail selections. We were transported to an evening in Europe on our night out at Boulevard! The lighting was low and warm without being dark, and the seating was close and intimate. We both enjoyed the fillet and a glass of red wine off a delightfully robust wine list. The filet was perfect and juicy, coupled with an incredible potato hash. The service was excellent and quick, they got us seated at the chef's bar despite our lack of reservation, and we got the wonderful experience of being jealous of other people's mouthwatering orders while also enjoying our own meals. read more

I ate at the Boulevard many times, and was always impressed with the quality of food, the presentation, the service and the overall ambiance It's still a fantastic restaurant but I was surprised that the flavors were a bit off I a couple of dishes The appetizer- tuna carpaccio was so spicy - it was hard to enjoy it. I'm sure the flavor was there but the spice overload was killing it Then the lamb... maybe it's my fault- I ordered medium , without asking what the chef recommended, but it was tough and I wasn't able to enjoy it , so ate just a few bites The dessert- it was delicious, but the presentation was as if I were in a diner. I would expect a more sophisticated arrangement of the components so it was more artistic and eye appealing My favorite dish was the scallops appetizer, which were perfect ( my boyfriend has ordered them and I was sorry to be stuck with my carpaccio) I hope in my next visit I'll be just as impressed with all the components of the dining experience as I was before last nights dinner. read more

Haven't been here in a long time. I thought I had made a reservation on Open Table for our party of 5 but I must have neglected to complete the process. When we got there they said they did not have a reservation for us and they were completely booked of course as it was a Saturday night. But they were able to get us a table in the bar area. This is an incredible option and we had an absolutely incredible experience. It has stood the test of time. Highly recommend this institution of fine dining. read more

I haven't had a restaurant experience like this one before, it was a real treat. We were sat across from another queer couple that was celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary and they said that they go to this restaurant every year for their anniversary. So sweet! Probably one of THE most gorgeous dining rooms in SF. The service was hospitable and the ambience gave timeless establishment! We opted into the prix fixe for $119 per person and added the caviar topped sea bass. Each dish was super good and my favorites were the dessert and quail. It gave a very similar vibe to Gary Danko but leans seafood heavy. Wine selection was also really unique and fantastic. Boulevard is great for a date or to impress some in laws! read more

I've been coming here since 2016, so I think my review here is long overdue. A San Francisco classic, I've been coming here since they offered a lunch service and one of the best burger and fries combo in the whole city. You can feel the history and elegance of this restaurant the moment you step inside the recently remodelled interior. I can see why Jay Z and Beyonce rented out a room here before because the restaurant feels both intimate and luxurious. There are 2 seating areas, one in the front for the a la carte and one in the back for the pre fixe menu. Fun fact, there are a bunch of pink flamingos hidden throughout the restaurant so see if you can find them all! Luckily, Chef Dana was kind enough to walk us through the menu. While I generally don't want to load up on carbs before the main course, I really couldn't help myself because the olive bread was that good. The celery root dip looked as good as it tasted and really prepared us for the dinner that was to come. Our starters were the crudo dish and the walnut and mushroom dish. The crudo was fresh with a little hint of sweetness and the mushroom had a fantastic umami that balanced with the texture from the walnuts. The main dishes were the berkshire pork chop, a signature dish of over a decade from Boulevard, and the northern halibut. The pork chop doesn't need much describing because it is always perfect: juicy, rich, tender just like a pork chop should be. My wife's halibut had such an interesting flavor that somehow just works, helped by the wonderful flakiness. The carrot cake had a great crust. It was so good that I completely devoured it despite not liking carrot cake. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by the raspberry cheesecake with fresh made oreos. It was soooo good that it made me question why I ever get cheesecake anywhere else and that I wish dinner wasn't over. But that is exactly how you know you have dined in at someplace truly great. That I will relish both the anticipation of eating here again and dread the feeling of when dinner is over. Boulevard is just that kind of place. read more

Food and service were both absolutely fantastic! Our waitress Gabby was so kind and informative. She was able to guide us in our menu choices based on the wine we ordered so we ended up with the perfect pairing. I started with the golden beet and goat cheese salad which was super impressive. There were at least 6 whole beets on a solid chunk of goat cheese. I love beet salads but this was the most amount of goat cheese I've ever had, they certainly didn't skimp on the cheese. It had a refreshing vinaigrette that complimented the beets, goat cheese and truffles really well. I followed that with the Alaskan halibut which was perfectly cooked, light and flaky with tasty sauce and mushrooms. I'd definitely get this again. Finished with the banana choux box which is like a sandwich with chocolate mousse and bananas in betwixt the pastry. Flaky pastry drizzled with chocolate and a side of banana sorbet provided the perfect finish for the meal. One area of improvement is to serve the starter bread warm, that way the butter would spread a bit better. Cold bread is pretty basic, but it was sourdough so it's just a minor complaint. read more

Celebrated my birthday at Boulevard a little over a week ago, and was the first time I had been back since the pandemic. From the moment you enter, you are wrapped in the warm, luscious wooded interiors with equally beautiful lighting. I have always loved their interior and architectural design so was relieved that they did not change it. I am so grateful they survived whereas many of my other favorites did not. Now to the best part! The menu has changed quite a bit however, the quality has not. Different times, different culinary experience opportunities! Our server was wonderful as he was deeply knowledgeable about the menu items, pairings, and patient when we needed more time to make considerations since it is now a prefix menu. i don't have the foodie words to adequately describe this place. all i know is when i've had the best meal of my life, and i can tell you that my meal here the other night was LITERALLY the best meal i've had in my entire life. i can still recall the flavor explosions in my mouth four days later, and they have ruined all other food for me. i'm not kidding. ever since my dinner there, everything i've eaten since is like throwing some 99 cent top ramen in a bowl and shoving it in the microwave. i started with the tuna tartare - honestly, it wasn't necessarily anything to write home about beyond presentation; tantalum here in long beach is slightly better. i mean, it was really great, if i didn't love tantalum's tuna tartare so much. but then they brought me the halibut. if i hadn't been with my in-laws, i would've described the flavor as orgasmic. instead, i settled for wide eyes and an astonished "wow". i'd told my mother in law i was too hungry to share, but after the first bite i insisted she fork a piece off and try it herself. her eyes rolled back. setting aside that it was perfectly prepared, the complementary touches melded in my mouth to provide a perfect experience. i had to force myself to NOT wolf it down. it was a prix fixe menu so i had to select a dessert. while i like desserts, i don't order them unless forced to, and typically have a bite or two to be polite. our server had recommended the strawberry yuzu sundae, so i went with it, since everything else seemed heavy and again, i expected to only have a couple of bites. i ate that entire sundae to within an inch of the bottom, and only stopped because my belly was by then so distended i had to push my chair back. i guess i expected like a little dish of some ice cream with fruit drizzed over it, but i've never tasted anything like that damn dessert. was it the passion fruit? i don't know. but it was superlative and i flew home saturday recalling it like the long lost best lover of my life. it's also worth noting that i highly recommend their olive bread, had a few bites of my mother in law's filet mignon which was also eye-rolling back good, and even tried my father in law's duck liver mousse (i hate both duck and liver, but i did not at all hate that, especially given it was served with pumpernickel). obviously the service was spectactular (i don't know what the pumpkin puree thing they gave everyone was, but it was over the moon fantastic). loved the atmosphere; it was decorated for halloween, but also felt like a joint that frank sinatra might've had a dedicated table within. one of my favorite things about fine dining is exploring the wine list and craft cocktails, but my drinks were forgotten as i focused on the truly exceptional meal before me. someone more experienced with food can offer something more useful here, but all i can tell you is that before we even paid the bill, i was thinking that a) i would fly to SF again just to eat here and b) if i lived in SF i'd have to budget this place in my monthly expenses. i actually texted my foodie, native SF boss within five minutes of getting back to my hotel room to recommend it. it's not cheap, but i've had worse food and paid more for it. if you're a local and haven't gone, go. if you're not a local and are looking for a fine meal while in town, DEFINITELY go. i wish i had pictures, btw. the food was all plated SO beautifully that even though i'm not one to instagram my meals, i had to fight the urge. i fought it successfully, so i have nothing to visually add here, but please just take it on faith. oh! adding that our reservation was at 6:15p on a friday. service was attentive and on point - by the time we left at 8p, the place was packed. so i definitely recommend a slightly earlier reservation if you're not looking for a scene. read more

Incredible experience! Had a ladies night dinner with a group of 4. We were welcomed in and handed a cocktail menu right away! After ordering delicious drinks, we ordered our first course. One of the girls in the group is vegan, and our waiter triple checked each dish to ensure it was truly vegan and not just vegetarian. Service was outstanding! Let's talk about the building itself... make sure to check out the walkway and the ceiling art. So beautiful! Cute art and decorations down the hall to their restroom as well. Boulevard is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. It is such a delight to dine here during the holidays because the inside is beautifully decorated. There's not one but 2 decorated trees and the windows are like a North Pole dreamland. Dinner is prix fixe $119 for 3 courses and you can use one of the specials to substitute for one of the appetizers. But it's an extra supplemental cost if you order the 3 course and a one of the specials as an additional 4th course. My beef cheeks on toast were tender and delish. Hubby had the pate' and BFF enjoyed the bisque. I thought the lamb tasted a bit gamey and 3 of us ordered scallops which were delish, tender and cooked perfectly. They gave each of us an avocado hummus which was very good. The espresso for the affogato was really strong and didn't melt the generous serving of chocolate pearls which topped the ice cream. Hubby liked his chocolate cake a lot. There was a large assortment of ice cream and sorbets to choose from. BFF picked 3 and couldn't finish all of it. The ambience puts you in such a festive mood. Service was really good as well. I'm so looking forward to a return visit here again. read more

I really like this place and so I will start with the negative. When I showed up the hostess(who is like 6'2 without heels), acted like a doorman at some exclusive nightclub basically questioned me at the door and barring me from entering. She asked if I had a reservation, When I said no, she was not going to let me in the restaurant so I told her that I was going to the bar and she said "oh-ok, there is open seating at the bar". It was a very weird confrontation that was very unnecessary. On to the positive, the bar is great and the bartenders here are great. They are super helpful with recommending items on the menu. I ordered the fish which I believe was sole. The dish was amazing and again the service could not have been better. The wine list also has some great selections as well and I enjoy their wines by the glass. The atmosphere and decor are awesome. read more

The vibes of this place were immaculate but I was a little disappointed in the food. The caviar came with blinis but they were too thin and too greasy. Then for apps: seared scallops with summer truffles, fresh butter & cranberry beans LOBSTER & PRAWN RAVIOLI with roasted lobster mushrooms. The lobster mushrooms were so meaty and paired perfectly with the cream. Next, Lamb with roasted fig, pistachio & mint, crispy smashed potato & tokyo turnip soubise, sheep's milk ricotta ANGUS BEEF FILET duchess potato with smoked onion & winter truffles, green bean succotash & roasted jus. : by then, I was incredibly full bc I wore a size 2 #laperla dress. Nonetheless, mama ain't raise no quitter! I got the BLENHEIM APRICOT SORBET & CULTURED COCONUT sauternes granite, charentais melon, blueberries & tomcots. This was HIGHLIGHT of the night. Refreshing and light. Yet deliciously lingering on your tongue. Much needed esp after a heavy entree. 3.5 stars If you're looking for a safe place to have a business dinner that would appeal to an older crowd, this is the spot for you. The interior has an intentionally old school glamor vibe with its dark moody interior, patterned floor, plush chairs. It's not a trendy modern, minimalist kind of spot, so think bring your parents or have a corporate dinner, not catch up with your girlfriends. On the weeknight I came, I saw many suited up groups, clearly on an expense account. The highlights from dinner were: AHI TUNA TARTARE crispy potato & green chili tangle, whipped shiso tofu, korean chili & pomegranate vinaigrette - I was pleasantly surprised by the whipped shiso tofu, it was a unique twist to the dish. BANOFEE ROULADE roasted banana & rum ice cream, chocolate meringue, foster's caramel - I wasn't quite sure what this was going to be, but ended up really liking the mixture of roasted banana with ice cream and meringue. BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP hachiya persimmon & sunchoke, brussels sprouts, speck, toasted hazelnut & kumquat - I liked this the most out of the mains we tried Most of the dishes were just classic American dishes, nothing super exciting or interesting, but also generally hard to go wrong with.
