Delicious croissants and super nice gal that assisted me Sunday evening towards closing. Needed a snack to hold me over on the way home and I scored a croissant for breakfast too. It was so flakey and scrumptious, just out of this world!!!! I'll definitely go back since the gal that helped me was so welcoming even as they were close to closing. Its my go-to when am taking a train from grand central. Bit pricey but their croissants are best. Very freshly and well made! Well the excitement ended there because the woman at the register was so rude to us for no reason. Let me tell you, the baked goods here are simply divine, and they're the reason I keep coming back. However, the customer service is absolutely atrocious. It's like they're trying to make it impossible for you to order a large black iced coffee. I tried five different ways to say it, and then they asked me if I wanted a large or small cup and what kind of milk I wanted, even though I'd already repeated it to them. I could have done a full show at that rate. I wish I could say this is the first time it's happened, because I'm okay with a few bad days, but the energy in the Grand Central location is just glacial and abhorrent. I write this to you, my dear reader, from a seat in the 6th car of the MTA North line while ripping into this Everything Croissant. This is the first time I've heard of or had an Everything Croissant, so I respect the innovation. I popped into Bourke Street Bakery as I needed some fuel for the train ride to Beacon, and just because a croissant and a black coffee has become my breakfast of choice these days. Great 1-2 punch. They have all the pastries in a window, and I can't even lie it was the lighting on them that got me. They were like underlit, and it just made them look so damn appealing I had no choice. Great lighting goes a long way....... Was the coffee and croissant the best I've ever had? Nah, but for Grand Central Station it was pretty damn good. I'm so content with that purchase. I had seen ads for Bourke Street Bakery's impending opening in GCT for a few months now, but since I usually exit close to where my train rolls in, I had not seen it in person. On my way home the other day I entered the station a different way than I usually do and lo and behold I found BSB right in front of me. Since I had skipped lunch that day, I thought it would be a good idea to stop in and grab some sustenance before heading home - so off I went. Like many GCT retailers, there isn't much space inside BSB - really maybe 4 or 5 is a crowd here. They have a selection of pastries, as well as ready made sandwiches, wraps, some dairy products, and coffee. After a moment of browsing, I decided to go with their turkey and Swiss croissant sandwich and a chocolate sour cherry cookie (you know, for research). The sandwich was fine, but the croissant was a tad dry - perhaps warming it would have helped but it's kind of a catch 22 since you need to get people in and out at GCT so they can catch their trains. It could also have used a binding spread like mustard or something. I enjoyed the cookie - just the right amount of chocolatey flavor and the sour cherries made it pop. Service was fast, before I knew it I was out the door. Overall, I had an okay first experience at Bourke Street Bakery. I wasn't wowed by the croissant sandwich, but the cookie was good and I would definitely go back for more of their baked goods. read more

Experience here was a little underwhelming compared to the original in Australia. So far I've tried the matcha & almond croissant and the shakshuka danish. Nothing to shout about for the former (it's pretty huge though) while the latter did have good flavours to it with the egg, shakshuka, feta and zaatar. The downfall was that the pastry was a bit limp. They aren't able to heat up the pastries - I think if they were able to, it would have helped elevate the pastries. read more

The star at this bakery appeared to be the croissant which happens to be my favorite pastry of all time. They are Huge! And are featured as sandwiches here. I bought a croissant and a small coffee. I enjoyed the visual and aesthetic appeal of such large croissant in my hands. I savored it by tearing little pieces off of it like cotton candy. Fresh, fluffy buttery stuff accompanied by a mildly bitter brew with a touch of cream. O The shop was very busy with a cashier that was just that but very efficient and made sure my order was accurate and quickly performed the transaction to get the customer queue down. To their credit, Bourke St. Bakery's items are pretty good - tasty, and skillfully made. But there are two problems: 1) Their stuff is not cheap: about 25% - 50% more than I would have expected to pay for comparable items. 2) More problematic - they advertise that they open at 6:00 am (important to me, because I commute into NYC on an early train), but about 20% of the time, they don't open on time. Not even close to on-time. You can see the employees moving around inside, but they don't seem to be able to get it together enough to open the doors. Every business has an off day or so, and that's forgivable, but to semi-regularly fail to be open on time? That means I cannot rely on them, and that's unprofessional. So, three stars. I enjoy their baked goods and the prices are a little high, but about what I expect for Midtown. My problem is that they are never open on time. I get to Grand Central about 6am every morning and it is a true anomaly if they are open. Hell, today it was 6:15am and they didn't even have the lights on yet!They're probably missing out on a lot of cash considering they're located in one of the busiest travel hubs in the city. Got a small iced coffee (5.6 - extra dollar for oat milk and extra 60 cents for caramel) that was the size of my palm and tasted like actual water. I'm not even a coffee snob and think dunkin is good just to give you context. The plain croissant (4.5) I got was stale cold hard and had such a weird aftertaste. Definitely old. Had the worst pain au chocolat at this bakery (for $4.50 nonetheless!). The lamination is awful, making this normally light and delightful breakfast item a horribly heavy and doughy rip off.
