Do you have a bucket list of pastries in the Big Apple? I do. One was the hazelnut chocolate croissant at Bourke Street Bakery. Earlier today, I was in Grand Central Station and decided to get one. Humidity is low today so the weather seemed ideal to have this pastry. Or was it? I took it outside and sat to eat it. One look and I realized that it was a sad state of affairs as the pastry had deflated. Two bites and I wanted to cry. Where were the hazelnuts? Are they so expensive? The pastry was leaden and broke apart. A waste of $6.50. I couldn't eat it and tossed it in the bin.

This bakery location is underground in the Grand Central station. I discovered a shakshuka danish here. It was good. Huge crowds for breakfast, so come early or you'll be standing in line for at least half an hour.

I write this to you, my dear reader, from a seat in the 6th car of the MTA North line while ripping into this Everything Croissant. This is the first time I've heard of or had an Everything Croissant, so I respect the innovation. I popped into Bourke Street Bakery as I needed some fuel for the train ride to Beacon, and just because a croissant and a black coffee has become my breakfast of choice these days. Great 1-2 punch. They have all the pastries in a window, and I can't even lie it was the lighting on them that got me. They were like underlit, and it just made them look so damn appealing I had no choice. Great lighting goes a long way....... Was the coffee and croissant the best I've ever had? Nah, but for Grand Central Station it was pretty damn good. I'm so content with that purchase. They're quick too which is nice if you're in crunch time to make a train. What's that sh*t George Patton said? "A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week" ... yeah ok not my best reference but I do love that quote. Ig @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

There are many options for coffee in Grand Central but if you're one of those who wants to grab and go, this place is for you. They have a ton of options if you want to get a bottled beverage and they also have a huge pastry selection. Of course, if you want a hot or iced coffee that is available as well. Note: this spot is tiny, but they do make it easy in and out. I've tried their cappuccino and their cold brew and both are great options.

Staff and service is great. This is a little shop in grand central terminal. Wish I could say their coffee was worth the $3.00 I paid for that small coffee. The flavor had a burnt and old aftertaste to it. The size of it compared to the $3.00 guaranteed I'll never spend here again. I also got a butter croissant- which for a bakery also tasted anything but fresh. At the end of it $8 wasted on this. ‍

Experience here was a little underwhelming compared to the original in Australia. So far I've tried the matcha & almond croissant and the shakshuka danish. Nothing to shout about for the former (it's pretty huge though) while the latter did have good flavours to it with the egg, shakshuka, feta and zaatar. The downfall was that the pastry was a bit limp. They aren't able to heat up the pastries - I think if they were able to, it would have helped elevate the pastries.

Awful service. It's Grand Central and everyone is trying to catch a train or go to work. The service is so slow and disorganized, they don't have a clear process for ringing people up, and they almost charged me for double what I owed. A total mess all around. It took way too long just to buy a yogurt parfait. I can't comment on the baked goods but the parfait was alright albeit a bit expensive.

The Mango and Pistachio looked so realistic and mirrored the flavors perfectly. I love the size of their cakes which are perfect to share with a group of 4. I indulged in their Black Sesame Mochi Cake and Blueberry Chiffon Cake which both have the fluffiest sponge cake base, a fluffy vibrant cream, and fresh ingredients and fruit. Give their drinks a try too. I enjoy their matcha here! The Traffic Lights is a strawberry matcha with a mango cream top. And I also tried their Black Sesame Latte but substituted the espresso for matcha and loved this customized pairing. FYI, there is no bathroom!

Finally decided to try this place after walking by it for years. I refused to try this in the past,…read morebecause I didn't like how many items they put on display. It felt like items weren't made with care and mass produced at a factory or something. I went 10 minutes before they closed and there was still 10+ of each dessert. I'm not convinced that they will dispose of them. Even if they do, it means they didn't do a good job in forecasting demand especially after being in business for multiple years. I ordered mango and yuzu. Both were too sweet and had one dimensional flavor and textures, not refreshing per their stated flavors. Even if their appearances take effort, they don't look pretty enough for me to forgive what goes in my mouth. I'm used to having patisseries with many layers and elements. Mango's sponge probably only took up 20% of the bottom, because I barely had bites of it. Most of my bites didn't have any. I didn't like how liquid the filling was. It didn't exactly ooze out but just melted into a puddle in my mouth. Yuzu looks pretty with the pink and yellow glaze, but it didn't go with the realistic fruit theme. I chose it for the flavor combination which is strawberry, yuzu, and guava. This was slightly better in terms of flavor variety in the mouth. The flower on top had a weird off putting flavor. The bottom crispy rice apparently is supposed to be chocolate but it came out plain. It was tasteless anyway, so not effective in terms of flavor or texture.

I had to run to work after an appointment so I ordered for takeout. The person taking my order was friendly. I opted for the Lumberjack and a black cold brew. I received the drink very quickly, with a short wait for the sandwich. While waiting, one member of the staff stocking up supplies on the side started chatting with me and then she offered to check up on my sandwich. She came out with it shortly thereafter. She was very friendly and helpful. The sandwich held up well during my 15-minute commute to the office. It is a really indulgent sandwich, with each bite revealing the sweetness and butteriness of the maple crueller, the saltiness of the thick cut bacon, and the savoriness of the cheese and the eggs as the yolks popped. I sipped the cold brew in between bites to cut the richness. It was a very satisfying meal. The Lumberjack is not something I would recommend you eat every day, but it's good as an occasional treat. In the past I've ordered lunch from Daily Provisions via delivery (the "Chefy" salad and the chicken milanese with arugula salad are my favorites), but I might start adding other breakfast sandwiches to the mix.

I had never heard of the place before, but I was happy to give it a try -- and I'm so glad I did. From the moment you walk in, the experience feels special. The store has two beautiful double doors that create such a grand entrance, and once inside, you immediately feel the energy. The place was bustling with people, and everyone seemed happy and excited -- from the customers to the team behind the counter and the baristas. The cookie case was overflowing with so many amazing choices that it was hard to decide! I ended up getting the Rocky Road cookie, a Double Chocolate Chip cookie, a Two Chip Chocolate Chip cookie, and a blueberry muffin to enjoy for breakfast the next morning. The service was absolutely impeccable, and everyone I interacted with was warm, friendly, and delightful. When I got home, I had half of the Rocky Road cookie with a cup of tea, and it was incredible. The cookie was large and chunky but still perfectly enjoyable -- not heavy or overwhelming. It literally melted in my mouth. The chocolate was rich and smooth, and every bite was just delicious. The next morning, I tried the blueberry muffin, and it was just as impressive. It was light and airy, not overly sweet like many blueberry muffins can be. It truly felt like a breakfast pastry. The blueberries tasted fresh and burst with flavor in every bite. I will definitely be back for more cookies. This was such a wonderful find, and I'm so happy my coworker introduced me to this place!
