Chilaquiles with 3 poached eggs, carne Asada.
    Holly M.

If you are traveling through Costa Mesa/Irvine, don't pass this cute breakfast joint up. We looked for a place for breakfast before heading out of town and found Breakfast Republic. When you first walk up to the front of the restaurant, there is a nice indoor/outdoor bar. Perfect place to sit if the weather permits. The only downside may be the traffic noise behind you. They have a gift shop counter as you walk in with their branded sauces, shirts, hats and more. The host told us to sit wherever we wanted. We chose a high top near the bar. Our server Alejandra was very friendly and attentive. Always smiling. She checked in on us constantly all while juggling several tables. I ordered the Chilaquiles plus carne asada with 3 poached eggs. It came on a huge plate. It was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Rice & beans delicious as was the chips and sauce. My husband ordered the Jalapeño bacon cheddar sausage scramble with house potatoes. He said it was very good. We really liked the atmosphere and food and will definitely make our way back when in town. We also loved their BP ketchup and hot sauce so much we purchased bottles to go. Overall we had a nice experience at Breakfast Republic.

I thoroughly enjoyed my American breakfast with the usual...scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, diced potatoes, etc. I sat at a cozy table on the side, one step up from the main floor and next to some funky chicken wallpaper. My meal was nicely presented. The jelly for the toast was a little "thin" but tasty. I highly recommend this place.

Saturday around 11am: no wait, but the place was full and lively. It has a trendy, welcoming vibe whether you're coming solo, with friends, or with family. Everyone on staff was friendly, including our server. The pricing felt fair for the portion size. I'd recommend it to locals, or anyone nearby looking for a casual spot to meet a friend or coworker. The food was mediocre, but I'd return and give it another try if I was in the neighborhood and there was no wait. One suggestion for the owner: find a way to ensure the food comes out hot and ready--some items (eggs, bacon, etc.) were cold to lukewarm.

I ate at this location of the breakfast chain on a weekday morning. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant which has plenty of spots but I see how it can get full on weekends. I was seated right away; it wasn't very busy. My eyes quickly moved to the french toast section of the menu. I decided on the Mr. Presley (peanut butter stuffed french toast topped with bananas foster and crumbled bacon. I also ordered a hot latte. The french toast consisted of two pieces which were folded over with gobs of peanut butter inside of each. The taste of peanut butter prevailed with the bacon providing a salty balance with the sweet of the banana slices. I quite enjoyed it. The latte was very good, silky-smooth and served at an immediately drinkable temperature. Service was friendly and attentive. It has a vibe of a relaxed, neighborhood restaurant where you're treated like family.

I know we have been to this place before, but it has been quite awhile... our friends wanted to try it out. One hour wait which is understandable for a popular joint on 17th Street on a Saturday. Luckily we came a bit later as the place will be VERY LOUD during breakfast and it's hard to have a conversation. Food? A lot better, the chilaquiles were very nice and with a large tortilla we were able to create a nice burrito that rivaled the one from Tacos Delta in LA. The chicken Benedict was nice for the eggs and fixings, chicken a bit dry and bread a bit tough. Awesome cake though, we're still eating the leftovers. Coffee is sumptuous and quite good for restaurant stuff. 7/10 from this coffee snob. Service was very good, prompt and personal. Pro tip? Go after 1pm if you'd want to have a conversation without yelling.

Breakfast Republic has become one of my husband and my favorite brunch spots! We love coming here for little brunch dates when he happens to be off work and the kids are at school... although we definitely still come on weekends with the kids too. One of our favorite things on the menu is the pancake/French toast flight. You can mix and match any three flavors, which is honestly genius because who really wants to commit to only one type of pancake or French toast? Although, we are that couple that orders different things everywhere so we can split and try the best of everything. It's also surprisingly perfect for our kids. We have two autistic children (one nonverbal), and the flight option gives them variety without overwhelming them with huge individual plates. The kids share one flight, my husband and I share one, and it's always plenty of food for all of us!! And I have to mention the Mexican coffee... SO good. And the fact that it's refillable.... Immediate bonus points!!!!!! Great food, cute atmosphere, and one of our go-to brunch spots for both date mornings and family breakfasts.

    Chilaquiles and Vegan Breakfast Burrito

Very lively brunch spot. Vegan and non vegan options for friends and family to sit down and enjoy together. My girlfriend and I went on a Saturday noon and there was no wait. To my surprise the waitress who attended us said we were lucky to have found seats right away since on most weekends the wait time can be up to an hour. My girlfriend ordered the chilaquiles which came with a side of rice and black beans. The chilaquiles were crunchy, savory, and the right amount of spice. I ordered their vegan breakfast burrito which included vegan egg, vegan cheese, vegan sausage, potatoes and avocados with a side of rice and black beans. Overall 5/5, would definitely go back to try the rest of their menu

This was one of the most disturbing dining experiences I've ever had, and it honestly raises serious health concerns. After already dealing with extremely poor service, long wait times, and a completely unresponsive staff, the situation escalated even further when we opened our takeout container and found a hair inside the food. This is not a minor issue--it's a basic sanitation failure. The sight of it was enough to make me physically sick. It completely killed any appetite and created a very uncomfortable situation at the table. At that point, it became clear that there are deeper problems with hygiene and quality control in this kitchen. What makes this even worse is the overall lack of accountability. There was no urgency, no proactive check-ins, and no sense that management was in control of what was happening. When a place can't maintain basic cleanliness standards while also failing on service, it becomes a serious concern for customers. Between the unacceptable behavior from staff, the disorganized service, and now a clear food safety issue, this experience crossed the line from disappointing to unacceptable. I would strongly urge management to take immediate action to address both sanitation and oversight. Until then, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

My husband saw the place on Facebook, he is all about breakfast, me not so much. The place is adorable, clean, and they really made sure to put their logo on everything. Service was good too, I can't complaint. Unfortunately my biggest complaint is the FOOD. I wish they spend more time on the taste of their food than the decoration. My husband ordered California breakfast burrito, let's say we could make better at home. I ordered pancakes with side of spicy chicken (chicken & pancak), ok chicken pieces looked like the chicken was on a diet. I wish the pancak tasted as good as it looked, it was so dry I kept pouring syrup but it didn't help. I was really disappointed

Hubby and I decided to stop here for a breakfast date. Such a cute place, staff is friendly, food is delicious. I was craving pancakes and the bacon pancakes were the perfect mix of salty and sweet! They have a great selection of cocktails and Bloody Marys.

Pretty damn delicious! Staff is so nice and the location is perfect with the parking!

OK, I was fooled. I thought this was a small, independent, local breakfast bar. It turns out that Breakfast Republic is a small chain with 15 locations. They just run it like it was a neighborhood place. Besides the staff being super helpful and friendly, the decor and ambiance is so wonderfully relaxing, I felt like I was on a vacation. After getting photos of our food, I put the phone down and chatted with my wife for an hour. Back to the food.. The portion size is just right with a little extra potatoes to make sure you get full. The Crab and Crawfish Cake Benedict was marvelous. I was a little confused by the blackberry jalepeño jam on the menu description, but it turned out to be a delightful addition that added a sweet complexity to the flavor profile. The Shrimp & Ricotta Fritata was a full pan of food. See the photo. My wife worked on it for almost an hour and then I had to help her finish it. The service was great, the food delicious, coffee rich and smooth, the restrooms clean, and the atmosphere very relaxed. This was a perfect breakfast experience.

You can make reservations on Yelp, and there is also a Yelp live wait list. We visited during happy hour (Tuesday thru Friday from 4pm to 6pm) to take advantage of their food specials. We had the coconut shrimp ($12, but $7 during happy hour) which are always good. We also had some fries ($7, but $5 during happy hour). They were good and a generous portion. She wanted to try the vegan (cauliflower) salt & vinegar wings ($14, but $9 during happy hour). They were breaded and fried well, but had very little flavor. There was just a light sprinkle of a salt & vinegar seasoning. More salt and a dash of malt vinegar on them, or a side of malt vinegar would have made them a lot better. The happy hour food was a good value and got something in our stomachs. My first cocktail was the Wilderness Badge (Tequila, Lemongrass, Basil, Bergamot, Lemon, $17). This was by far my favorite. I love Italicus liqueur and this drink had great bergamot flavor up front with a light basil flavor from the basil infused tequila. It was very balanced and I would have never guessed this was a tequila based cocktail. She started out with the Sasquatch Sighting (Jamacian Overproof Rum, Cynar, Mango, Molasses, Lime, $17). This was balanced, with a light bitterness and light sweetness with mango flavor. Next, I tried The Lost Camper (Demerara Rum, Thai Green Tea, Pineapple, Coconut, Lime, $16). It was a pineapple bomb with a hint of coconut. I didn't like it at all and actually sent it back. I did think the skeleton arm and hand swizzle stick was cool. It is served with the hand at the bottom, but I took the picture with it sticking out. Instead, I had the Black Sands from the regular cocktail menu (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, charcoal, $18). It is served with a flaming lime and sugar cube. I've had this several times and love it. It has a great funky complex flavor. Next, she had the Naked & Afraid (Mezcal, Campari, Smoked Pineapple, Serrano, Passionfruit, Lemon, $17). This was really good with a great complex mix of smoke and bitterness with a little heat. She gulped it down, and I was lucky to get a few sips. We decided to share the last new cocktail, the Scouts Honor (Vokda, Peach, Mandarin, Orgeat, Lime, $16) so we could say we tried them all. It looks nice with a bright orange color, but it was very sweet and peach forward with a hint of orange. Our server Crystal was great, very friendly and provided great service. We started collecting mugs recently, and we bought the Belly of the Beast Monstro mug ($62) to take home. BOTB is their Pinocchio themed speakeasy in the back (separate reservation required). They also have several other Stowaway branded mugs available. This visit was definitely better than our last few. As far as the five new Summer Camp cocktails, two were excellent, one was good, one was ok, and one was not good. The food was good, and is a great value during happy hour.
