I was a frequent diner at the downtown bft and excited to learn they opened a restaurant in Kaimuki. Same great food, ambiance is lively, and prices are reasonable. There's free parking in the back of the restaurant but if it's full, there's only street parking. Started off with the clams, a baker's dozen of steamed clams in a light pesto broth accompanied with 4 thick, crusty slices of bread. Perfect for dipping. Next the Insalata di Mela, red leaf lettuce tossed in a sweet, light vinaigrette. And lastly, the Funghi pizza. In the past I've ordered this pizza and the crust is crispy with a slight charred taste, but tonight it was soggy and burnt. I'm sure it was just a fluke. Maybe an adjustment on the oven is needed, or the pizza maker should be more attentive? The topping was spot on though, and it's still one of my favorites. Our waitress Rachel gave excellent suggestion on the wine, was fast but didn't make us feel rushed, and had a cheery disposition. I think I love this place. The food is great. The service is great. It is in my neighborhood. There is free parking. There's a nice wine and beer selection. How could it be any better? Sal's bolognese pappardelle is so rich and flavorful. The perfectly al dente pasta catches all that meat sauce which also nicely surrounds a succulent meatball. My friend wanted it spicy. If that's what you like, do not hesitate to ask. They will add calabrian chili, an Italian fruity, smokey, salty pepper... so tasty, a real treat! I had the prosciutto and peas penne which was fresh and light with just enough saltiness. Of course, we had to balance our pastas with the arugula and caesar salads. Both substantial enough to make it a lovely accompaniment. We shared an order of the gelato of the day, chocolate macadamia nut. Just perfect! Don't get me wrong the flavor was really good! The only thing that threw me off was the dough. Although the flavor was fresh and you could tell it was homemade, it was super thin which made the sauce soak into it which made it soggy really quick. Parking is pretty bad in Kaimuki, there really is only metered parking everywhere. So we decided to do take out 2 pizza's cost $50. My best friend was hyping the place up saying that it was so good. So I decided to order from there. For some reason I wasn't able to order online so I called in to place a take out order. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and the the Mama mia. We've been fans of Brick Fire Tavern's Neapolitan pizzas since 2016 and were disappointed yet excited for its certified trained pizzaiolo owners when they decided to move from Chinatown to Kaimukī in 2020. Wow! What a time for a move as we are amid the pandemic but, to us, even as we were doing our best to stay in place, we were still drawn to Brick Fire Tavern's pizzas. However, it's taken us almost a year since BFT's move (September 2020) to Kaimukī to get a taste of what we've been missing. Usually, I make dining reservations through OpenTable.com, but this time, I decided to call my reservation in. Fortunately, there were still a few reservations for the date and time that I wanted. I also inquired about the location of their parking lot behind the building with its entrance on the makai side of 9th Avenue off Waialae Avenue. Their open parking lot was spacious, but please note that the lot is shared with other businesses, so if it's crowded, you'll probably have to look for metered or free street parking. Sophia, our server, introduced herself to us with positive and friendly energy. She asked if this was our first time dining with BFT Kaimukī, which we confirmed, but we had been regulars at their former Chinatown location. We also mentioned how much we liked their new location because it's only a 4-mile drive away and has the bonus of free parking. Their Kaimukī restaurant is larger and has a more open contemporary layout. We didn't order adult beverages or appetizers because BFT was our second stop in our celebratory progressive dinner. It didn't take us long to place our order because we spotted one of our favorite BFT pies, Da "Shrimp Truck" ($21) and the Bolognese Pappardelle ($23). Both dishes were prepared well and tasted as delicious as we remembered. Throughout our dining experience, Sophia's attentiveness and friendly demeanor were welcoming and yet unobtrusive. We started with a good bottle of local beer and dove into a great beet salad with the fish crostini; both were tasty and complimentary of each other. Sal's Bolognese Pappardelle pasta came next~ I liked the meatballs. We tried the veggie Monster pizza next. I like thin crust and this was perfect. Pizza sauce just right and splash of veggies lived up to its name. The only downfall is the parking. I first discovered this delightful pizza establishment when they opened downtown. In moving to Kaimuki they now have a much bigger location but their food and service is just as spot on as before. I took my elementary school aged daughter a couple months ago and more recently went with several friends for a happy hour / dinner last night. I love the fact that this is a restaurant that can provide great experiences during such different circumstances. With my daughter the server recommended some delightful dishes and drinks that they thought she would like. And with my friends the service was fast and efficient despite our 4 pizzas and beer orders. I haven't yet had a pizza here I haven't liked but my favorite continues to be the Funghi pizza, while my daughter devoured the meatball appetizer. One thing I never realized since I tend to eat here in the summer is that they have seasonal dishes highlighting the more common produce of the year. They currently are offering a pumpkin dish and heavier pastas that have replaced their lighter beat / orange / tomato type of dishes. I personally am viewing this as a challenge and intend to return to sample all their seasonal dishes. My one grievance continues to be the parking. However, street parking along Waialae Avenue or one of the nearby streets is not hard to find and much more favorable to the expensiveness of downtown. There are a lot of free parking spots off of Waialae if you don't mind walking a little bit. Metered parking is only for an hour but also only goes until 5 PM (and not on Sundays). Just remember to bring coins as they are still the old meters that don't take credit card or mobile payments. read more

Once located in Chinatown on hotel street (I miss this location) , now located in the golden triangle of Waialae ave in the kamuki district . If you read my reviews of other restaurants in this area, Parking at times is a b ! They do have a small parking lot in the back but good luck with that . For those who haven't experienced this type of pizza this is probably best on island. If your from places like nyc or sf this is only place on island with this style (be nice!). I often compare this place to Delfina (rank top 10 in cali and top 25 in USA) in SF. All the pizza here are made in their custom made brick fire oven. Made in about 90 sec or so. I never went to their original location but I finally got to try their food at their new location in Kaimuki. There is a small parking lot in the back and also street parking. This has definitely become one of my favorite pizza places. The service is always friendly and I've found that I am a fan of neopolitan pizza. My favorite so far is the carbonara pizza. They spread the egg yolk out so you get a taste of it with every bite unlike some places where it's clumped in the very center. I will warn people though that this style of pizza is very thin so be prepared that the toppings may slip off the end or it may tear with too rough of handling, but I think the flavor is worth the effort. The sides and salads are also worth a try. The gnocchi was quite delicious. And if you have a lot of room at the end of your meal or have friends to share with I recommend their dessert calzone. The food was very very good. Right off the bat, the appetizers and salads we loved and they don't over dress their salads. The four pizzas we order was very delicious. The crust was light, airy and spongy like your classic Napoletano. We were too hungry to take pics when our meals came. I am a really big fan of Naples-style pizza so I was really excited to hear that Brick Fire Tavern is the first restaurant in Oahu to be Vera Pizza Napoletana (VPN). I have been here twice and both times did not disappoint. I love how their oven is out in the open. It's mesmerizing watching the pizzas go into the oven for a mere 90 seconds and coming out in perfection. *drools* Our waitress was very attentive and also gave us a few recommendations. Mamma Mia Pizza: The pizza is well balanced with the meats. The pizza dough is thin, and light so you don't feel terrible after eating a slice. I absolutely love the banana peppers on the pizza because they added that zing of sourness. I love how the pizza crust is lightly seasoned and even saved the crust to sop up the rest of the pasta sauce at the every end. The only thing I didn't like was that the pizza was a little soggy so all of the toppings would slide off the pizza making it harder to eat. Truffle & Porcini Pasta: This pasta is an earthy warm hug perfect for any type of mushroom lover. The pasta was al dente and had complex flavors of umami. Cannoli: I don't like all cannolis but wow this one was amazing. Buttery, crisp, outer casing with lightly sweetened pistachio and a hint of lemon. Doggy bag for this one! Banana, Nutella, and Strawberry Calzone: The calzone was larger than my head and is great for sharing. The nutty nutella flavor compliments the sweet banana well. Honestly, I think it would have been better in crepe form cause the dough can get really thick. I also wished there was more strawberries. Parking: This area is packed at night. There is parking in the back but it shared with other stores. There is also street parking, and residential parking. May the odds be in your favor when it comes to parking. You can walk in but it can get packed pretty easily. I recommend making a reservation so you can scarf down a pizza and not become hangry while waiting. All in all, a delicious Italian restaurant that makes very delicious pizzas and cannolis that I'm going to be dreaming about for the next few weeks. read more

Pretty easy they're on open table. I tried walk in twice and it was a huge wait. The decor is nice. Nothing crazy, but simple and nice. I went right for diavola (devil) pepperoni pizza. The diavola version comes with some hot oil and red pepper basically. I also ordered a beer. Pilsner Urquell, I haven't had one since I last went to Czech beer garden in Queens, NYC. So I had to order one. The pizza was tasty. A legit brick oven pizza with no shortcuts. Nice caramelization on the crust. Rustic texture to the dough similar to ciabatta but still soft enough. Pretty solid pizza. Nice decor. Drink selection. I'll definitely come back and when this we get into another tier level it'll be a nice big group. read more

At all. The crust wasn't crispy at all, the toppings were oily, and there wasn't as much flavor. Both pizzas were like this. Floppy and greasy. I really thought it'll be great based on all of the hype...and they are listed as VPN, so they must be legit, right? Maybe they were rushing our order. The pasta was not great either. Pasta was oily and didn't taste like much. Meatballs felt diminished. For $15, you get three regular sized meatballs. Sauce was good, Meatballs were only slightly above average in taste. Dude, I love this place. The flavor combinations on the pizzas are so good. I had a special with potato, fontina, rosemary, and caramelized onion.
