Too expensive for a no frills pizza place.pizza Wonderful but I was not impressed with other foods..parking a problem too!

This place is absolutely the hidden gem of Brick. The places right up the road don't have a thing on this location. They run a 2 pies for $22 to go during the week--a great deal, but the pizza tastes best when you eat it there. They have amazing appetizers, and consistently great main courses, it is always an excellent meal. The homemade pasta will not disappoint. The prime rib is awesome. You'll find your favorite appetizer--but you have to try the calamari with the cherry pepper dipping sauce. The BYOB can be loud when crowded...it holds about 40 people...and it always seems like there are friends there chatting it up. The homemade desserts are great, it's clear that Chef Jack truly cares as he makes his way out to say hello to his customers. One way or the other--make sure you get here. Food was very bland. Chef needs to learn what the difference between carbonara and Alfredo is. Ordered a piece of key lime pie for dessert, cost $8 and was no bigger than a half dollar. 3 bites and it was finished. Foods much better at Tre. read more

I dined here with my friend this evening, the first time here for both of us. I made a reservation the day before, (recommended by other reviewers - thanks Yelpers!), and got the exact time I wanted. Seemed like it was a good idea, because that place was PACKED when I arrived. It's been about a year since my last dining-out experience due to health problems, so I was really hoping it would be good. I'm happy to say it was AWESOME !! I ordered the Chicken Marsala (a regular menu item) with a side-order of sautéed spinach, and my friend ordered the Lazy Days Grouper (from the "blackboard specials" menu). For me, this was hands-down the best chicken marsala I have ever had in my life, it was absolutely perfect in every way, and the spinach was delicious too, perfectly cooked & seasoned. My friend had a similar opinion about her dish. The ingredients used were obviously fresh and very high quality, which is what you're really paying for here. I won't say the atmosphere could be described as "fine dining", it's a very small place, not particularly fancy, also quite loud when filled with other loud-talking diners, and therefore it was somewhat difficult to carry on a conversation. Doesn't help that I'm hearing-impaired, and so is my friend, lol. But honestly, who cares? If what you're eating is TRANSCENDENT, you don't really want to talk that much anyway, you know? I've seen some other reviewers mention the "no frills" aspect, as well as the cost (this place isn't cheap, but it's not super-expensive either), and the parking (it's a small lot, but I had no trouble, and it was 7pm on a busy Friday evening), and in some cases the reviewers actually gave a much lower rating as a result. I think someone left them one star, even after saying the food was great! I personally feel that's petty, unreasonable, and totally unfair to this establishment. I would so much rather have wonderful food and so-so atmosphere, rather than the other way around. Frankly, it shows me that this restaurant's owner spends their money where they should, where it really counts, and in my opinion, that is a very smart way to run a business in such a difficult industry where profit margins are razor-thin. I also want to mention that our server, although self-admittedly young and inexperienced, did a really great job and was right on top of everything. Shows that they train their staff very well also. I left her a pretty big tip, and I was very happy to do so. Long story long, I will definitely be returning, and hopefully sooner rather than later! read more

This place is one of Bricks best restaurants. Much better then the Italian food restaurant chains. I have eaten here at least 5 times and this place never disappoints me. The pizza is excellent,but my favorite is the gnocchi. With all the local restaurants going by the wayside it's nice to see this little gem is still open for business. read more

We didn't have lunch today so we dropped in for an early dinner. No wait, no reservation. The bread with cheese and olive oil they give you is delicious! The artichoke appetizer is a great start. The Angry Shrimp was mouthwatering in more ways than one! Spicy and tasty! The rigatoni was al dente perfect! Highly recommend. Make a reservation in advance or order take out! I love the Brick Oven! Their wait staff has improved IMMENSELY. They are quick and always on their feet to help you the second you need something, bringing hot/crispy bread, drinks, etc. They also are very friendly and the boss- Jack, is the best! He is always welcoming to everyone and makes sure to always greet the different tables and welcome them to his restaurant. Their food is DIVINE. I love their garlic bread and their vodka sauce is to die for. All in all, somewhere I can eat AT LEAST once a week. They are awesome! read more

Well they are closed on Mondays and I needed some grub to feed the family after my daughters confirmation. So I ordered a couple of pans of chicken and pasta off of the catering menu, Thank goodness I did. Everyone loved it. It was all cooked perfect and tasted amazing. The food is very good, as is the service. My issue is with Management who IMHO does not give a rat's ass about it's customers. I had had a bad experience there previously and brought it to the Manager who did not handle it properly and basically told me too bad. I let that go, and continued to go there because we enjoy the food. This past weekend was my daughter's birthday and we wanted to celebrate. My wife called ahead and asked if there would be any issues with us bringing in a cake. We were told "not at all" and made our reservation. NOTE - Now would have been the time to go over and inform us of your policy!! They charged us $15.00 ($2.50 each) to cut and serve the cake that we brought. WTF? It was not listed on the menu or discussed with us at all until the bill came. That's their "policy" I was told. Well there are many, many places to eat in the area, and we will now begin exploring other options. read more

Have been going to Jack's for many years, after he took it over from George. The food has always been excellent and Jack is very accomodating. I have called for special dishes like Lobster Fra Diovolo and Rack of Lamb and he makes these as good as any place at l/2 the price. The pizzas are great and so are the pasta dishes, especially the seafood. He has made outstanding Branzino and Soft Shells. It's our fall back place when we want a relaxing dinner with a good bottle of wine. The service has always been outstanding. read more

This place was great a real unexpected surprise I can't wait to go back! Very cute on the inside and good service. It's byob too!! We just moved here & we are not a fan of chain restaurants so I googled Italian restaurants in brick and this came up. From the outside I thought it was a condemned building boy was I wrong! My husband had eggplant parm huge delicious portion! I had the whole wheat pasta with grilled chicken and veggies so good ; we started with the mozz and tomato which was good too!! Great little brick treasure!!! Can't wait to go back!!! I take my review back! Horrible experience tonight with waitress! We have been back once a week since I did review but I was never more embarrassed in my life we were basically kicked out because we did not have a reservation when there were tables getting up! The waitress said they had 3 big parties which I can understand they just didn't want to handle more people! I am going to call owner to tell him this is not how to treat repeat customers! BYOB. Get the BLT pizza, good god that thing was amazing. We got there around 4 and it was dead, but they seemed like they would get busy when they asked if we had reservation. Kids personal pizza is big enough for like 3-4 kids. Truffle fries with saracha ketchup was awesome appetizer. Recommend trying it out. read more

We usually go to Bradley beach to get our brick oven pizza but this weekend we ended up staying in brick. My boyfriend and I are big foodies and we LOVE our pizza.... we saw brick oven restaurant come up and we thought we should give it a chance. Thank god we did.... we ordered the Trenton Pie .. fluffy but still thin... the tomato sauce was amazing. The cheese that they give with the bread and the pizza is honestly another reason that made them stand out from the rest. Can't wait to come back again when we visit!!! Had a great dinner with a party of seven. Especially good were the seafood specials. Lazy day grouper sauce was outstanding. Panko encrusted sushi grade tuna with wasabi sauce was perfect. Appetizer selections were numerous and all was good. I highly recommend. But reservations are a must. The dining room is small. Always passed this place but never been. So glad we got to try it ! Party of 5 went for dinner. For starters we got the wings, calamari and the broccoli rabe!! Wow all delicious! I usually like to eat all the apps together but they came one by one. I actually enjoyed it this way because we took our time ! For dinner I had the lazy day grouper !! Wow sometimes grouper doesn't have mch flavor but this was delicious. Fried to perfection and over a lemon lime sauce with rigatoni! Wow delicious. To end the meal we had Zeppels and Nutella! Walked into the place on a Wednesday night at 5:15. If there are 15 tables in the place, it's a lot and only two were occupied. We were immediately grilled by some rude manager type who asked if we had a reservation which seemed kind of funny since there was no one in the restaurant. When we said we did not he immediately went into attack mode and said we could sit but had to be out by 6:30, which at 5:15 didn't seem like a problem. We agreed and then he started aggressively grilling us about what we were going to order even before we sat down or saw a menu. At that point we decided to go somewhere else where they might actually be happy to see customers. His continued rude parting shot was, "next time call first". We said there would not be a next time to which he got very aggressive, actually following us out to the parking lot yelling, "good luck down the street". Wow! Who needs that! Lots of nicer places to eat. I have been going there for many years and now know why waitresses change so often. This time they took it to another level. Delicious pizza! You have to get Brick Oven pizza -- it's the best. However, as neat as it is to watch them make it, wait time is bad every time I call to order. Every time I've ordered for pick up, I've been told 20-30 minutes by the person on the phone and I'm ALWAYS walking in (not early, mind you) to them JUST putting my pizza in the oven (you can watch them do it at the register, so...) It's aggravating to have to wait, but the pizza is good enough to know to pick your battles. read more
