Fifth time to eat here while going through Bandera and never disappointed! Decided to eat something different this time, smothered hamburger steak and it was delicious. Usually get chicken fried steak, but since hubby got it, I knew I could snitch a bite! It is still my fav dish here, but glad I finally tried something new. The food was tasty, the staff was friendly and we were allowed to sit in their patio with our well-behaved dog for dinner. The patio dining is enjoyable and there was live music (country, not overly loud) playing which was a nice touch. I had a mishmash of vegan sides and the waitress was very accommodating to my requests and questions. Definitely a place to visit while in Bandera. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with our experience here. The wait staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I had the fried catfish plate (outstanding fish) with green beans and fried okra. Both sides were great. My daughter had the chef salad and really enjoyed it. It's a little dated on the inside and tucked behind a motel, but the food and service did not disappoint. Brick's has excellent food as long as you're patient. It does take a while to get your food, especially on weekends, but my food has always been good. The staff is kind and helpful. I always enjoy going back. read more

My friends and I were driving at night and we are not to familiar with Bandera. We missed it until we figured out it was located behind the River Oaks Inn. It's a small restaurant. When you first enter the restaurant, you are in the upstairs portion of the restaurant. We asked to be downstairs since it's not too bright as the upstairs. They serve decent American food with the usual wraps, sandwiches and steaks. I ordered the Austin Wrap which contained sliced turkey breast with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, Swiss cheese, guacamole and southwest mayo, in a tomato basil wrap. For a side I ordered sweet potato fries which was a good combination to have. They serve the drinks in mason jars which was cool. Three stars is not meant to be a bad thing. It's a good thing and I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in Bandera again. read more

My family and I took a quick day trip to Bandera. We looked up some reviews on the top restaurants in the area and this popped up. We had a little difficulty finding it but once we did we were a little skeptical because nobody was there at the time we arrived. We were seated and yes the place is a bit outdated so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. I ordered a Shiner Bock which came in an icy cold freezer mug, drinks came in huge Mason jars. I ordered the Texas Shaved Ribeye sandwich and my wife ordered the King Ranch King Ranch Chicken Enchilada, kids ordered hamburgers. The food was fabulous, Texas cut fries which were cut there in the house, the ribeye sandwich was very juicy. I'm looking forward to going back and eating there again. This place exceeded our expectations, so the saying of "don't judge a book by its cover" applies here! read more

Not really impressed. We came in and they said seat yourself. We started to sit and one of the staff said you can't sit there, there's a wedding party coming in. Ok! So we couldn't find a clean table so we just sat down. Someone came & cleaned the table. Nice. We ordered. The girls ordered the King Ranch Enchiladas and I ordered the Cajan baked cat fish. The enchiladas were ok but dry. Should have been moister. My cat fish was ok, not much seasoning. The Fry's were really old and tough. Worst fries I ever had, they were also like eating pure salt. Cole slaw was also very salty. These people like salt. Told the server & she just said she would tell the cook. We will not return. read more

Jeez, after reading all the reviews for this place, my friend and I expected MUCH better! (plus, someone at the Chikin Coop told us it was the best place in town!) We were promised homemade bread and the drinks served in mason jars sounded so quaint! Ehhh... we arrived to find a place hidden behind a motel, with soda served in giant quart-sized mason jars (taackyyy)... and the structure itself looks like it definitely used to be some sort of old-people-cafeteria in a past life. (like a Luby's?? Or something of the sort). First thing's first: the interior design of the place needs a MAJOR overhaul. Now the food-- I got the shaved sirloin sandwich with onion rings. I was STARVING, by the way, but couldn't even finish. The sandwich itself was falling apart. The bread seemed undercooked (and is NOT homemade, because I asked the waitress.. but when it arrived, it was just obvious anyway). The meat was piecy and falling out everywhere (hardly "shaved") and just greasy as all get-out! The onion rings were SYSCO-city and left a weird taste/feeling in my mouth. The root beer was good. :) My friend's club looked a lot better. I asked her how it was and she said 'I mean, it's a club..." I tried her sweet potato fries and sure, they were good. I mean, as good as the frozen kind you make at home, which is what they are, I'm sure. But I still hadn't had my fill! I got one of their desserts in the front case to go. The Oreo pie looked just awesome! I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was mostly Cool Whip in an Oreo crust. So why 2 stars and not 1?? Well I really would come back again when in Bandera (lol), because I feel like I must be missing something!! Maybe I just ordered a bad dish?? I normally don't like to review places after just coming once anyway, but I also couldn't stand to see all these 4 and 5 star reviews for the place! This place makes the best Greek Salad!!! I love love love it, especially with grilled chicken on top! The other thing I regularly eat from there is the King Ranch Enchiladas, which are not the best I've ever had, but are pretty consistently good. They also make some pretty tasty chocolate mousse pie of some sort, I can't remember what it's called. My friend always gets and loves the Fried Shrimp. My mom loves the Greek Salad with grilled shrimp on top. Oh, and their sweet tea is delicious, too. Best part of Brick's? The waiters! They're always really friendly and attentive. As my stereotyping assumed, the local offerings primarily include chicken fried anything, liver and onions, burgers, french fries, and chips. Not a whole lot in the ways of fresh vegetables and non-fried proteins. With slim pickings, I reached out to a local for help. A local noted that this is likely the best place in town to grab a bite. The Ribeye Sandwich was not quite what I expected but fine. The nature of a ribeye cut is that there will be fat. And yes, there was fat. Fat, melted cheese, and meat on a bun. The flavor was fine, but it certainly was dense, caloric, and high in fat (not the good kind). The star of the meal was bun (house-made possibly) and having sweet potato fries as a side. The bun was light, fluffy, and sweet in flavor. Very nice. Overall, you can definitely find something at Brick's if you're hungry. read more

Been here a few times over the years, as recently as today. This place is a great casual country diner. Understand, you're in Bandera. Yes, it's behind a motel and the decor is lame but the food (which is what counts) is great. I recommend the chicken salad, chicken fried steak and catfish. Onion rings are awesome! Love that they serve drinks in mason jars! My family ate there today and we all said it is okay - but there isn't much of a choice in small towns. I got a Mediterranean salad with chicken and it had waaaaay too much feta cheese, but the dressing was good. My son had the catfish and he said it was good, but mashed potatoes were not. I'm not saying I won't eat there again, because as I said - not a lot of choices in Bandera. But, I will definitely get something other than a salad. ;) read more

Don't like to give a local restaurant a bad review but was very disappointed with our experience at Brick's last night. There were four of us and we had heard that a favorite waitress of ours was working there. Walked in, bar to the left and the bartender was talking with several folks sitting at the bar, ignored us, no greeting or acknowledgement at all. Stood there, several waitresses moving around, again no one acknowledged us. Finally a waitress came to the register close to where we were standing, I turned to ask if our waitress was working, was told NO, then told her there were four of us. After about a minute or so she said Linda will be your waitress, then she turned and walked away. We stood there waiting and finally turned around and left. I'd say we waited at least five minutes and were pretty much ignored the entire time. Basically the customer service was horrible. Granted they were busy, but we really felt like we were imposing and not welcome. read more

I had no idea that this place was next to a motel. I usually have my reservations about places like that--mostly that the food would be average. One of the specials for the day was chicken fried antelope! Brick's is much smaller inside than I expected. By first impression, I was not expecting much. That was until I had "The Brick." A grilled ham and melted swiss cheese sandwich on a toasted sweet sourdough bun. By far one of the best ham and Swiss sandwiches I've ever had. It was so good that I was sad to take my last bite. I also recommend their onion rings. They were sweet and battered perfectly. I didn't have a burger, but the dude sitting next to me had one and it was huge. I'll make sure to skip breakfast before trying one of those bad boys. Service was expedient and friendly. The reason for not giving the last star: there is potential for making this place look as good as the food tastes. It just looks outdated, much like the motel next to it. I will make it a point to stop by here again. There's a reason why the locals love this place. Take out is available. read more

Severely understaffed resulting in poor service. We waited 20 minutes once we were seated for the waiter to take our order. We waited another 50 minutes for our food to arrive before we left in anger. The staff seem friendly and realize there is a problem but it was even an issue to get some saltine crackers for our young child to eat while waiting for his dinner. Our dinner might have been good, based on our appetizer of onion rings which were hot and delicious, though we waited for those for at least a half an hour. We're visiting from out of town and have noticed that good service in Bandera is a problem. We won't be back. read more

I honestly find Chili's to serve better quality food. We've eaten here numerous times, as there are not many options to choose from in Bandera. The food has always been okay at best, severely overpriced with poor service. I believe the last time we stopped in, prices had gone up and the serving size had gone down. The owners can be very snarky and rude. You can even hear the cook yelling from the dinning room. I wouldn't recommend it. You are better off driving to Kerrville or Boerne than chancing any of the restaurants in Bandera. read more

Came in after a long day of hiking, seeing that the place had good reviews. But WHY? Took 5-10 minutes for us to even be acknowledged at the front door, and then ONE HOUR to even get our STARTER out! Last I checked, it didn't take 60 minutes to make ~15 fried pickle slices. We payed for our drinks ($6? Why?) and appetizer, and left the building. You know it's bad when you can hear the locals near you, who were seated BEFORE YOU, even though you came in BEFORE THEM, complaining that it was taking forever. The restaurant was busy, but that's no excuse for this absurd amount of time for food. Go to the restaurants less than 1 mile down the road that will serve you in a timely manner. read more

This is a cute place. The ambiance inside is blah but the back deck is nice and comfortable. We were a party of 5 adults, 1 infant and 2 dogs. Dogs are allowed on the deck with a leash. Fried pickles were yummy and had a spicy kick, onion rings were huge, chips and queso were very good if you like just plain queso without a lot of mix ins. Fried catfish was excellent, House chips are yummy, burger didn't get any complaints, steak was good, chicken tenders were the loser of this meal (although I have no idea why my daughter didn't like them and she is extra picky so doesn't count in my book). Both food and the people stand out at Brick's. We showed up late afternoon driving from Garner State Park back home to Austin. Driving by you'd think this is a restaurant inside an Inn, but it's much more. My husband's patty melt with bacon and my bulldog burger (with fried jalapeños- I'll need a lot more of those in my life) were both perfect. Hearty, full of flavor and very juicy. Our kids had chicken strips and a cheeseburger but what stood out was the service. When hearing we had 3 hours to drive one waitress asked if she could give each kid a quarter for some candy in a machine, they took extra care packaging up and putting in extra napkins without me asking. Brick's has genuinely nice people working here and our next trip to Garner will include a stop, except next time I'm getting a full order of the Jalapeño bottle caps and eating on the back patio. read more

I don't know what happened to Bricks. It used to be pretty good, but this time the only thing that was good was the waitress, but I felt so badly for her because I think Bricks was out of everything. I took my son and his girlfriend for his birthday. What a disappointment. I asked for a cocktail they had on the menu, the bartender tried, but failed. Used the reason that they don't serve it that often. Honestly, it tasted like 100% lime juice. Then when it came to ordering, neither my son nor his girl received what they initially wanted and what we went for. They both had to settle for 3rd best on their list. The Manager did not offer to comp any part of the meal and I swore I wouldn't go back. We'll see. read more

Brick's used to be my favorite place to eat when visiting Bandera Texas. In fact I have traveled from San Antonio to Bandera just to eat at Brick's. My 'go to' menu item was the Rueben Sandwich. Brick's made the best Rueben Sandwich that I have ever had. I traveled there today specifically to have lunch at Brick's and get their special Rueben Sandwich only to be told that the Rueben had been removed for the menu. I got the burger which was a lack luster open faced burger. I'll probably be making fewer trips to Bandera now that I no longer have a favorite place to eat. What a shame. read more

We were there last night June 29th and was really pleased with the food and service. Our waiter was Braxton and I thanked him for wearing a mask and gloves but few of the employees were. I would have given the food and service a 5 star if they were trying to help stop the spread of co-vid 19. The mask I wear is not for me but for those around me. Small towns think that they are immune. When you go and you should, try the chicken strips you will be surprised. 10 star. read more
