Our family has been going here for over a year. Tasty food, nice variety on menu. Then just this past week, roaches! Need I say more? The staff did not seem surprised - they must be used to the complaints, which means management is doing nothing about the filthy greasy vermin. I mean, when a roach is meandering in the dining area ON your table, they're pretty chill and comfortable if they've made it out that far in the middle of the day - so their kitchen must be infested :0! Thoroughly disgusted. How many times before this incident did I possibly eat a roach leg?! A friend visited yesterday before I could warn him, yep, saw a roach, right at the check-out counter. Okay... It has been awhile since I first reviewed this place (2011). I think it is only fair to re-visit my review and see if the restaurant still meets whatever criteria I used to get the 5 stars I gave it back then. I accidentally discovered Brick's while camping in Medina, Texas six years ago. I was tired of the camp food I had with me. I don't remember how I found it, other than by searching for restaurants on the internet. I really liked it and made it a regular choice whenever I camped in Medina or Bandera. I took my youngest and his buddy camping with me once, and we went to Brick's for lunch. My youngest, AKA N2S, really liked it. In fact, when he graduated from Marshall HS in San Antonio, that is where he wanted to go for his graduation dinner. Today, we went for lunch at Brick's to celebrate his 22nd birthday. There were some changes to the place since my last visit. The desserts seemed to be displayed differently, and I don't remember the full bar on the left as I entered. Other than that, it was the same old comfortable place. Our server, Jerika, was awesome. Evidently, it was only her 2nd day waiting in the dining room. She had a wonderful demeanor that made us all feel at home. I hope she is there to serve me again in the future, although I must say that everyone there is just as nice. My wife had the chicken fried chicken, which she said was very good. It looked good, for sure. N2S had the rib-eye sandwich. He really liked that, and said he might have found his go to meal. I had the German plate. The entire plate was good, but my favorite part was the jaeger schnitzel with its awesome mushroom sauce. We all enjoyed our desserts. Rachel and N2S had the ice box pie. I had a great dessert that was meant to be carrot cake cheesecake, but that makes it sound to plain. This had cheesecake on the bottom with a very rich and thick gooey carrot cake concoction on the top. It was very good. N2S and I each had an ultimate bloody mary. I had seen a photo on their Facebook page and wanted to give it a try. It was outrageous. On top of being a top notch bloody mary, it was garnished with: gerkin, pickled asparagus, pickeled okrah, bacon, shrimp, cucumber, celery, summer sausage, cheese cubes, jalapeno, lemon, lime, and a salad pepper. If you haven't been there, you need to take a nice liesurely drive to Bandera to try it out. read more

I didnt actually get to eat, so I cant rate the food, but here is why you get a 1 star: Disorganized, and an overall "I really dont care" emanating from some of the staff. I am patient, and I get that it was busy, but there are some things that are not really excusable. We sat there, and I did time it, at the bar for 29 minutes... After 15, the girl said, "we have tables for both of you but they just need cleaned". She took one set of people at that point. 10 min later, after offering drinks to people who came in AFTER us, nothing. We noted in that 29 minutes that there were several tables looking dejected, no food, no drink refills. We left because even if they seated us, we figured we were in for another 30 minutes of waiting. So, we left. I wont be back, and my suggestion would be take care of people and they might be willing to wait. That food had better be the best in town after all that waiting. read more

It was ok not the greatest experience and not one we would like to come back to. We were hoping for something similar to the par of the river restaurant in Gruene, Tx sadly a bit disappointed... We arrived after a day of hiking @lost Maples State Park in Vanderpool Texas so we were plenty hungry. 1. The interior by the patio was poorly lit and not in an intimate way 2. The greeting was friendly, but we were met with an 86 list, seemingly out of a third of their food. Keep in mind we arrived between 5:30-6pm the day of the daylight savings time. 3. The lady wanted the ribeye, they were out so she opted for the sirloin. (Underseasoned and undercooked). It was pretty evident that the mash potatoes were out of a box, and I'd bet the corn was out of a can with some pepper threw on it. 4. It's not all negative the German fried pork cutlet, warm potato salad was great and it paired nicely with the mushroom gravy/sauce. 5. The brat and kraut was a bit of overkill with salt otherwise it went down with the beer. 6. My service was actually very good, so props there. But the cooks and management needed some attention this night. A couple of others just left upon being greeted with a scarcity of options. Tip for the restaurant owner: you are a on a prime real estate, your food should embody Texas and the food should state your pride. Boxed and canned veggies are a no go. If you are going to do canned corn, make it creamed corn. Never do box mashed potatoes unless you're fast food. I would give it a shot for lunch when I'm back in the area, but the other options are too many and so good. read more

We had an early dinner on the back deck at Bricks and were not disappointed. The view was lovely and the service was friendly and prompt. We really enjoyed the jagerschnitzel and chicken fried steak. And the sides were awesome! The food was great and we'd absolutely return. read more

After trying to go to Busbee's for lunch but finding they were closed, I had remembered looking at this place's website before my trip. If you aren't looking for it, you wouldn't even know it was there. The restaurant is behind the River Oak Inn on Main St. heading out of town towards Medina. My boyfriend was really skeptical at first. "A motel restaurant? I don't know..." but after walking in and taking a seat for a late lunch, the ambience is no frills but comfortable. Our waiter was super attentive and very friendly. I ordered the Austin sandwich which had turkey, bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, swiss cheese and southwest mayo with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was awesome!! So good I finished it all and I usually can't finish all my food. Maybe I was just really hungry. My boyfriend ordered a cup of broccoli cheese soup which he said was delicious and the Patty Melt. However, after seeing the table next to us be delivered the Chicken Fried Steak he regretted his decision. The CFS took over the whole plate and was thick and covered in gravy. I went sat Aug 21 at 5 15and I want my mf money back you garbage serving dumpster fire. Candidly $$&&#&you you pieces of &%^'. That's your food then the macaroni noodles I ate to purge the remaining bacterial foodpoisioning from my body. I want my money back as soon as you read this . If I have to call tomorrow about this to get my money back I will bury your reputation. Absolutely Horrible experience There's no reason we should be hearing the kinds of language we were hearing coming in loud volumes out of the kitchen After asking the woman who said she's the manager several times to please stop the language yelling from the kitchen because my kids were hearing all of it, nothing ever changed and then our order was all messed up and nobody seemed to care. Our server ( who was very attentive and respectful) sent the manager over to our table several times so I could voice my concerns but the lady didn't seem to care one bit. It definitely isn't anything I'd like to put my family through again. We stopped by here on our way back from the pumpkin patch. We had heard lots of great things about the chicken fried steak so we had to come try for ourselves. My husband and I both ordered the CFS I had mashed potatoes and corn, he ordered the Texas smashed potatoes with macaroni and cheese. My favorite side was the mashed potatoes great flavor and texture to add to each bites of steak. His favorite and our youngest sons was the macaroni and cheese. It looked really good and homemade. The chicken fried steak was huge and you could tell it was hand-battered. It had a great flavor and not a ton of seasoning bc honestly it didn't need it. The kiddos ordered grilled cheese and the homemade chicken strips, they both devoured their meals. I was able to sneak a bite of the chicken tenders and they were really good. This place had great quality of meats and def know how the batter them! We will save room for dessert next time bc the selection looked amazing: cheesecake, fridge pie, coconut creme pie, pecan pie and various cobblers and cookies! I also have to mention the giant mason jars they serve your drinks in were a hit with my camel drinking family. read more

Came from out of town. Service started out good. Water cup was dirty. Ordered food right away, but then waited 45 minutes for some sandwiches. Once we got our food, mine didn't seem right. I ordered the shaved rib eye and it came out dry, no onions, peppers, cheese or jalapeño bread. When I asked the server they said that it was cooked correctly. I said ok, but knew it wasn't right but didn't want to wait another 45 min for them to get it right. Sweet potato fries were cold, and seemed to have been sitting for awhile. Ordered some plain Jane domestic bottled beer that I thought was described as domestic long necks on their happy hour menu only to find out it's a very very limited selection which apparently doesn't even include ALL domestic beers. Super annoyed because I specifically asked our waiter if it was happy hour when he handed us the drink menu and he said yes, no other information was given. Got the broasted chicken- not sure it tasted much differently than regular fried chicken but dish was a bargain with four pieces of very moist, crispy chicken. Mule was great and reasonably priced. Pecan strudel was a bit sweet but good alternative for those who love pecan pie but with a different crust. read more

It took my husband and me over an hour and a half to get our food. They did not have the vegetables he ordered. The waitress said "she forgot about us" and then she said they overlooked my steak and had to start over. The sweet potatoes were straight from a can. Not good at all, it took forever and then they were even rude about it. Other people were leaving because they were tired of waiting. Go ANYWHERE else- even McDonalds is a better bet! read more
