If you're one of those "do it for the Insta" peeps, Brothecary is right up your alley: the giant XLB dumplings are the quintessential novelty purchase! Happily, it's also fairly well-executed to be hole-free and packed with an impressive amount of rich broth. Full disclosure though, I'm from Vegas where our dumpling options are few and far between, and not very good either. That $10 price tag for this baby though? Ouch! NOTE: The mini steamer baskets are adorable, but please return them so they can be recycled!

I got the Xiao Long Bao - the super big one! It was around $11. The bao was alright. I really wish the broth was tastier. But it was super plain and the meat was a bit rough. Not as soft...It came with a cute steam basket (that they recycle if you dont want it). The idea is super cool and cute. But the taste was just lacking. Overall..I didn't enjoy this dish as much.

Came with the family to eat a variety of foods. My kids love soupy dumplings so a large one was very enticing. We ordered 1 XLB and 1 order of crispy dumplings (5 in an order). They were filled with pork, chicken and a bit of veggies. They liked it so much we came back for seconds. They recycle the steam baskets so return them if you can. It was a bit pricey...we spent $17 two times.

A few weeks ago my cousin and his wife were at Smorgasburg and they sent me a picture of Brothecary's Xiao Long Bao. I instantly bookmarked them! My cousin's wifey is Taiwanese so I trust her recommendation when it comes to Taiwanese food such as the Xiao Long Bao. When I finally had the opportunity to visit Smorgasburg I knew Brothecary was a MUST!! My friend and I shared the Xiao Long Bao ($10) aka the Big Broth Dumpling. This thing should seriously be called the XL XLB -- Xtra Large Xiao Long Bao!! It was so massive!! It came in its' own steamer and the skin was so firm and fresh. We were given straws to sip their delicious pork and chicken broth that surprisingly filled this huge xiao long bao. The broth was amazinggggg! Despite the hot scorching summer day, I still enjoyed this savory warm flavorful broth. They seriously must have injected more broth into this thing after they steamed it because there was like an endless amount of broth... in a good way! After we were done enjoying the broth we used the chopstick to divide the xiao long bao in half and it was filled with a good amount of meat. The exterior was very soft and moist. They also give you a bit of soy sauce, vinegar and ginger that is traditionally served with the Xiao Long Baos. The ratio of the sauce was on point! It is served on the side so feel free to exclude it if those ingredients don't sound appealing to you. When we were done, we returned their little wooden steamer back to their booth. This makes sense to me because if they have to keep buying more steamers, cost would eventually have to increase for them to survive. So if you take up my recommendation, please don't forget to return the little wooden steamer thing! All in all, we enjoyed every aspect of the xiao long bao. It was the most tasty item we had all morning and it was also very instagram worthy... basically... all I ever ask for in a meal. #truth

Wow. For $10 I thought the dumpling would be bigger. It's a big dumpling but not a $10 dumpling. It was DELICIOUS but overpriced to be straight forward about it. I would really really have to be craving it to pay that much for it again. My husband got the smaller dumplings and they were delicious as well.

One of the most yummy and authentic food at Smorgasburg LA! I am a big dumpling and noodle person, and the food at Brothecary was 100%!! I was really impressed by the fact that everything is hand-crafted, from the dumpling dough to even the broth inside the soup dumpling was made from scratch. The giant xlb has a really nice chicken broth inside. It was just enough chicken flavor with a subtle sweetness. There's depth of flavor in the broth that just hit the spot for me. Overall a really fun dish to eat! Just be careful, everything is steam-to-order, so the broth inside is extremely hot when it first comes out. My 9 years old nephew's favorite dish was the pan-fried chicken dumpling. Again, the dumplings are made-to-order, so it is hot and extra crispy! The kids love this dish, and I'll definitely order more next time.

I've heard of Smorasburg coming to LA and I was interested to see how one of the many NYC imports fare on the best coast. While walking around, I noticed this pretty interesting food stand. The booth had a pretty cool sign, and the menu was simple and legible. I decided to get the chicken dumpling with the chicken broth. Just by the taste of the broth, it is easy to tell that they take their time and pay a lot of attention to detail to obtaining its very distinct, flavorful taste. I highly recommend getting both the dumpling and the broth. It really goes together will get you full and hydrated at the same time. The service here is top notch. The people working here are very informative and caring of not only the food that's being served, but the people that are trying it out, especially for the first time. If you're going to Smoragasburg, this has to be the first place to check out!

I love dumplings, almost as much as I love shrimp! XLB dumplings are filled with soup and some yummy meat. This dumping was so good, the soup was savory and delicious. I wanted to get another one but for $10, I thought I should try some of the other booths instead. Total regret now. Lol This was probably one of the best things I had at smorgasburg. I wish they made some normal sized ones too. So I could just stuff them in my mouth. I love XLB DUMPLINGS!

Located at Smorgasbord, they had s cute little stand with chairs which was appreciated. They were out of the chicken broth so I had beef broth for my four dumplings for $8. Flavor was there but I personally thought it was a little too much dough. Wait time wasn't bad and service was nice!

    Angela L.

They ran out of the giant xiao long baos, which I was really sad about. So, I ordered their pan fried soup dumplings instead. I wouldn't want to order them again because they were pretty mediocre and a bit overpriced. Next time I go to Smorgasburg, I'm gonna come early to get the giant soup dumpling!

    Courtney T.

I had them at a festival. Delicious 5 chicken dumplings in a fresh light broth. Tons of flavor with Friday shaved greens on top. We paid $10 for the small bowl but it was one of our fav menu items of the 5 or so foods we tried!

I recently had the chicken broth mini dumplings at SmorgasburgLA. These were to die for. Delicious, savory and juicy. Definitely recommend giving these guys a try - especially with the sweet garlic soy dipping sauce!

Of course I had to get the XL XLB when I saw it at the Brothecary booth at Smorgasburg! I have dreamt about eating this ever since I discovered that such a thing existed. And it was delicious! It's so big you need a straw to eat the flavorful broth. The only reason why this is not getting the full five stars is because of the price. It cost $10 for ONE XL XLB but that's expected with LA and it's overhyped food market. Still very fun and delicious!

The place is Alejandra's, and the creation is some of the best quesadillas you can get in LA. Coming up to the stand, you eye the menu and make your order, $8 dollars each or $10 for a dual topping type. There is potentially a bit of a wait due to every meal being freshly made on order, but it is a good and worthwhile wait, the staff, clientele, and food being most hospitable. At your order, purple dough is flattened to a blue corn tortilla, each tortilla freshly pressed and grilled in front of you. You watch it sizzle and rise brown, flip over, and continue its cycle to grow crisp. Topping highlights for me include squash blossoms and pork, which is chicharrones with a surprising crisp and crunch better than almost any other I've had, the ring of each bite echoing autumn leaves crunching under my feet, its condensed jerky flavour hemorrhaging in the still present sweetness of a meat once juicy. The stand provides a salsa bar with red and green sauces available, and other vegatative essentials- onion, cilantro, and pepper- serve as a lush and fresh forestry for the surprisingly substantial spice of the salsa to lick upon; piled upon the mountain of food and flavour, the green and red splatters evoked the Hollywood Hills, the red salsa smokey and particularly burning like the fires of last year. It's an addicting taste well worth the visit and short walk to sit and enjoy the meal in Echo Park. I'm excited to come back and try more ingredients for sure, very likely two or three quesadillas at a time to help expedite the process, as it can't be helped. 6.4/10
