This is a very expensive dry cleaners. If you are OK with paying top dollar, this might be the place for you. I brought my wedding dress to them to be cleaned and stored. I can't comment on the results since I have not opened the box and don't plan to for years to come. I did take another high end dress to this cleaner, and I trusted them to do a good job. I think they might have higher reviews - stars - if the clientele knew that they were expensive *before they dropped off their items. Highway robbery! Just moved to the area and dropped off a suit, tie and a couple of shirts for dry cleaning since it was the closest spot to my new place. I was charged $129!! One hundred and twenty nine US dollars for one outfit to be cleaned. Warning, this place is incredibly expensive, and, they close early. This is the best dry cleaner I've ever encountered, the staff is amazing if you treat them with respect and realize your bill will be enormous. I go in a few times a year with my favorite clothes that need the best dry cleaner in the world. I love the ladies that run this place. Just spent $58 to have a suit jacket cleaned and it was perfect, now I have my favorite suit back. They won my business years ago by removing a red wine spill from a cream Prada suit (sure, it cost $140, but I couldn't wear the suit with the stain). They did clean my dress, but that's it. They close at 6pm which is very inconvenient given traffic in LA. I got there at 6pm on the dot to pick up a dress and they had already closed everything down and were walking out to their car. It cost me $58 to dry clean a little dress at Browns. The same dress cost me $8 at The Hills Cleaners. Also, The Hills Cleaners stays open till 9pm. I know picking a dry cleaners can be hard, but there are definitely places. I have never been to this particular cleaners, but I work on Montana so I thought I'd swing an item there for a quick fix. I had a pair of vintage riding pants that had a small tear in the crotch area that needed a small stitch. The (NICE) spanish employee went to the back to ask her manager or possibly the owner if she would be able to do the job. The manager or owner came out and said in a very RUDE tone that she needs a special machine for that and i can go to the other cleaners down the street. She was very dismissive and rude to me. I don't doubt their work isn't top of the line but I highly believe since I was one of the rarely seen african american individuals spotted on that street I was treated this way. Browns is in a completely different class of cleaners than your normal neighborhood cleaners. The reason Browns charges more for their services is they spend a lot of time with their customers clothes. They use separate machines for whites and colors for dry cleaning. For fancy shirts and suits, they remove the buttons before cleaning, and sew them back on. And, when they press shirts, they iron the shirts inside out first. For sweaters, they measure the sweater before cleaning to make sure you get the sweater back in the right shape. And they remove every possible stain. You don't evevn have to mention anything to them. When you pick up your clothes, they all know about your clothes and the how the stains have been removed. And.. your clothes won't have that horrid dry cleaning smell or feel. I'm not rich by any means, but I invest a lot of money in my clothes. My Brioni shirts, Hermes ties, Kiton suits have only been to Browns and no where else, and they STILL look and feel good as new. I don't take my Brooks Brothers shirts there for laundry service, though, because I just don't care what happens to them. But, when I'm there, I see people who take everything there, including their T shirts, which I think is a bit much. They are extremely pricey, yes. But, I'm glad they are around. read more

I recently borrowed a friend's gorgeous, $1000 white linen dress for a dinner party. Unfortunately, someone bumped into me with a glads of red wine which left easily 1/3 of the dress completely stained and ruined. I took the dress to my three usual dry cleaners who I previously thought could do anything, and they all turned me away and said it was totally impossible, the dress was ruined. Horrified, I went to my friend to apologize and offer to pay for the dress, when she suggested I take it to Brown's. They'd taken care of some of her most special pieces and she said if anyone could fix it, it was them. I brought the dress and they told me with confidence, they could fix it. $85 and 1 week later, the dress was as good as new. Completely pristine. I couldn't believe it. Yes, it's expensive. But like other reviewers have said, you don't take your normal, easy stuff here. It was worth every penny, they saved a really special dress from complete ruin. read more

I lived around the corner from this place for 14 years. If you had a very unique item this was the ONLY place to take it. I had a beautiful Chanel sequined suit that was very difficult to clean but they made it like new every time. They are expensive but they will actually restore something you thought was ruined. My neighbors would take their casual dry cleaning to the cheapo place but only Brown's could clean their precious items. Now I live in NYC and there are a few okay places for cleaning but nothing as good as Brown's. I miss them. read more

Brown's is the very best but pricey for good reason. If you want to take care of special clothing (gowns, wedding dresses, favorite anythings), Brown's is THE place. They have a tailor on-site, and will do everything to fix damaged clothing, hats, gloves, purses, etc. Know my clothing will come back as perfect as when purchased new. Buyer Beware! Really beware!! Despite Brown's REALLY EXPENSIVE prices, they use to deliver on what they said they would do to get stains out of clothing. But, my last two experiences, they did not get the stains out of my garments. To my mistake which I acknowledge, I gave Brown's the benefit of the doubt on the first experience, but now I've had a second, bad experience in a row, so I have to give Brown's a poor/awful/bad rating. INSANELY EXPENSIVE for inferior service and not willing to reimburse me... Brown's said in regard to my second stained garment they couldn't clean "it's my problem, not theirs" and wouldn't reimburse me. I only know one really great but not inexpensive place to have your fancy tablecloths, comforters, gowns or what not, cleaned to perfection and that's Brown's Cleaners on Montana. I wouldn't recommend bringing them your daily dry cleaning as they're ultra expensive. This is where the movers, shakers, celebs & movie stars come to (oops.. how silly of me... ) lets try that again.... this is where the movers, shakers, celebs & movie star's personal assistants come, when they've been summoned to have their employer's couture clothing dry cleaned or washed... sometimes by hand. Also, many of the wealthier Santa Monica/Brentwood residents drop off their designer frocks & duds at this locale.... and let us not forget the "little people"... you know the type... broke but not busted designer whores that are more than willing to fork over their used and abused plastic to dry clean that perfect little black Prada dress. As you enter, the front counter is always buzzing with activity because Brown's is very popular and the women behind the counter are pretty efficient so your wait should be fairly short. Again, be prepared to shell out the big bucks. Also, be forewarned & prepared because it might be one to three weeks or so before you can even dream about collecting your fancies. So, if you are bringing them clothing that you are planning on wearing to a special event, you might want to call them ahead of time to ask when you might bring them in to be sure that they will be ready for you. Once, I brought in something but I can't seem to remember what it was... I do know that it was expensive and badly stained. They kept that thing for 2 to 3 weeks because they had to wash and air dry it a number of times... They do everything on site & take pride in being able to remove just about any stain. The result? My "whatever it was" was cleaned to perfection. What more could you ask for? Nice employees you say? They are uber nice and helpful. Parking? There are a number of parking spaces in the ally, behind the premises. I have only heard complementary things said about Brown's Cleaners so I can safely say that I think you will be very pleased with their service. to be astounded that brown's is expensive is akin to going to urasawa and being shocked, SHOCKED! at the tab. seriously, people. didn't the couture beaded evening gowns hanging in the front room tip you off that this is NOT an "average dry cleaning establishment"? they should have. those gowns cost as much as a car. and you're bringing in dress shirts, "simple" sun dresses, and bcbg here? brown's is for high end items, precious and heirloom pieces, and things that other dry cleaners have ruined and/or can't get clean (and you're willing to pay to have them fixed). my first experience with them was with a beaded dress my cat (RIP zasu) peed on (no i did not kill her for peeing on the dress). galanos purchased from a vintage store. it came back perfect. today i got back several items which my usual dry cleaner screwed up, including a beautiful hussein chalayan skirt. the sheer material had been scrubbed resulting in uneven sheerness... which made it look like i dribbled toothpaste on a very expensive skirt. which wasn't the look i am looking for. would i have taken a $70 skirt there? no. not on your life. that goes to my usual dry cleaner. brown's is for HIGH END and HEIRLOOM pieces. it is EXPENSIVE. but they will do a perfect job on difficult pieces. this is not for banana republic. take that to your usual cleaners. read more

This is THE place to bring your finery for dry cleaning! My family went here for a long time when I was a little kid, and I have the fondest memories of this place. The service was always swift and extremely friendly, like what you would find in an old time small town place, and the women working always gave me these delicious vanilla cookies while my parents dropped off and picked up that week's dry cleaning. I remember my parents saying that Brown's did the best job, and were always thorough and perfect in cleaning our clothes. As I grew up, I would always drop off my finest designer dresses and fragile vintage wear at Brown's and have never been disappointed. I've read some the reviews posted here and I think that they are really unfair to Brown's. Some reviewers have given Brown's low marks because of their high prices. So here's what you need to know before you use Brown's: their prices are top of the market. Brown's is a specialty cleaner -- experienced in handling the best and most delicate clothing and fabrics. Every piece is treated with great care. That's why people that I know (like one of the best men's tailors in LA, as well as the former owner of one of the best men's specialty clothing stores) recommend Brown's for their dry cleaning. I have had nothing but great experiences with Brown's. They have always been polite, punctual, and thorough. The clothes that I have sent them continue to look great because of the skill they have in handling fine fabrics. Brown's cleaners in Santa Monica is a fabulous cleaning establishment. The owner is a lovely, lovely lady who has always been very down-to-earth, extremely gracious and cheerful when I've talked to her. I only use Brown's when I need to clean something delicate or very expensive. I don't live very close to Santa Monica, but I won't take my special clothes to any other cleaners. I'm very thankful that we have at least one top notch cleaners in Los Angeles. Years ago I took a designer white wool suit with tiny pearls and gold thread on the front to Brown's. I was sent there by a local woman in the South Bay. Brown's did a great job of cleaning it. Every pearl and thread was intact when I got it back. Good luck sending something like that to a regular cleaners. I just dropped off a silk dress and some other expensive clothes with absolute confidence that they will all be perfectly cleaned when I pick them up. And if for some reason I ever have a cleaning problem at Brown's, I am confident that they will handle the issue fairly. If you aren't aware that Montana Avenue in Santa Monica is a very upscale area, and you didn't bother to ask Brown's what they charge, you can see a list of Brown's prices on their inside wall to the right of their entrance. Even if I lived closer to Brown's, I couldn't afford to pay their prices for less delicate clothing, such as an average cotton shirt. But it is totally unfair to give them a lower rating just because they are expensive. You get what you pay for at Brown's. They do a superb job. Giving them a low rating because they have high prices is like giving a low rating to a wonderful five star restaurant because you had to pay a lot for the food. It's your fault for not asking what the prices are if you can't tell by the neighborhood and the building that it isn't just a run-of-the-mill cleaners. Thank goodness Brown's is here to handle expensive clothes. I shudder to think what would happen to clothes that need special handling if they were given to a local neighborhood cleaners. I have no connection to Brown's other than having my clothes cleaned there on occasion. But I have to say "THANK YOU" Brown's for your wonderful, quality work. read more

Should have checked yelp before going here. Never going back. Would have saved me a ton of money. Every post about ridiculous prices for average work is very accurate. ASK WHAT THE PRICE IS WHEN DROPPING OFF!!!!! They do not post the prices for a reason, there are posts on yelp from 4-5 years ago asking them to post their prices, they've seen them and still don't. That says a lot. Ripping off unsuspecting customers is the only way they are still in business. I should have asked about the prices before and assumed a suit jacket, suit pants, and shirt (none of which are very high quality) would be the standard $20-$30, instead I left $115 poorer. My suggestion, save yourself the money and go to one of the million other cleaners in the area that do just as good of a job if not better. read more

These people think they're so great, and have prices to match. They are NOT worth it. They ruined my favorite designer jacket. It had a lace laced up through the collar. Not only did they lose that lace but they stuck a really ugly one in its place and treated me really rudely in the process. My advice- go to Rene French Cleaners at 21st and Wilshire. Brown's is for specialized cleaning. And, they are the best. No-one could possibly mistake this place for a "regular neighborhood dry-cleaners" - the finely beaded floor length couture dresses that are clearly on display say it all... I come here when valued dresses or pieces - whether designer or simply dear to me - have some kind of stain that I believe a "regular" drycleaner will fry or be unable to deal with. And, in those cases I am more than happy to pay the price of their fine work - it's worth it to me. It's not a "casual" atmosphere - Brown's takes cleaning seriously - but it is warm. I'm always greeted by name. The one time I did have a problem with a repair the owner immediately helped me and told me would personally oversee the repair.
