Wow, one small dish at Buca di Beppo is the same as two large dishes at any other place! So don't expect to ever go hungry after a visit there! Yesterday, I went with a group of nine people to bring a special visiting guest at work to lunch at Buca di Beppo in Peoria. While I wasn't involved in making a reservation, I have learned that you could makea reservation online (which can be made through their website or through OpenTable). Some of us ordered an extra side salad or soup for only $3 extra per person. I ordered a side Caesar salad along with the individual lunch-size lasagna, which was plenty of food for one person. Everyone thought the food was delicious! Most of my colleagues and our guest all took leftovers home. The service was good for the most part as he was attentive and answered our questions well. While I haven't been to this Buca di Beppo before, I have celebrated my birthday at other locations previously where they did a lot of fun things to celebrate with my group. We skipped dessert this time but received a birthday dessert previously. You can get a birthday dessert too by joining the eClub. When joining, you get a pasta discount (which sometimes changes) along with a birthday special $15 off a $30 purchase PLUS the full cake when you make a reservation to celebration with a group of four. So I've never been to buca de bepoo but I will tell you that after my last experience, and it's all customer service related, I will not ever go to that place again. We go there for their Thanksgiving special that they advertise. We made reservations two weeks in advance and we're planning on having a restaurant prepared Thanksgiving feast. So we have reservations, but even still we had to wait a half an hour for the table in the lobby and as soon as we get to our table, that's when the host advises us that they are out of the Thanksgiving meal . You know you should've said something when we checked in instead of making us wait a half an hour just to ruin our evening. OK fine so what do we do now? We ordered some chicken manicotti thing. I don't know what the heck it was, but it was not good at all. In fact I couldn't eat it. Everything had a really strange smell and sort of sour taste to it. Even the Caesar salad had a strange offputting taste like I don't know maybe it was made a week ago? I'm not sure but I couldn't eat it. And who can't eat a Caesar salad come on? So the food comes they forgot part of our order, but it was OK because we end up not wanting it after all but there's no serving utensils no tongs. You know how everything is "family style" there right? so no tongs for the stuffed chicken breast no serving spoon to get that pesto out. We asked for those things and it took minutes upon minutes for them to be delivered. And while I'm that topic, difficult to get a refill of iced tea. Also, I've never been to an Italian style restaurant that didn't offer any kind of garlic toast or bread or anything while you wait 45 minutes for your food to show up. And then when it does show up, it all comes at once. salad, appetizer and entrées. Brilliant. By now my iced tea is empty and cannot get a refill lol. Went to buca for my nieces birthday dinner. We had a reservation and shown our table quickly. We noticed that it was pretty hot on our area. After mentioning it a couple times a what I imagine was a manager said the people on the roof left the door to get on the roof open. Wouldn't this be something noticeable and able to be corrected quickly? It didn't cool down the entire time we were there. We ordered our food which was pretty good. We got the spaghetti and meat sauce, chicken parm, chicken Marsala, prosciutto stuffed chicken, lasagna, Brussels sprouts and a couple of salads. We had a late afternoon dinner here and it did not disappoint! It has been more than a few years since I had there so we thought WTH let's give it a shot. As it is family style my beautiful wife and I split a Cesar salad and the Quattro Al Forno which our awesome server, Brea, informed us it would actually be a Tres Al Forno because they were out of the chicken cannelloni. Damn, this was bad, and mid at best. The lasagna had an unpleasant tang to it and the cheesy garlic bread was like eating a spoonful of garlic powder. It was so salty and overpowering. It's been a year since my last visit but I've been having a craving. Got my family a pre-thanksgiving meal, ordered the shrimp fra diavolo pasta and the appetizer trio which includes fried mozzarella, spicy shrimp and calamari. Did an online order for pick up, ladies helping with the to-go were friendly and very busy with people coming to pick up their thanksgiving meals. I was there before my pick up time so I did have to wait (I wasn't sure how traffic was gonna be on Bell so I gave myself plenty of time). They made an effort to keep me updated so I didn't think they would forget about me, lol. But sadly, I was disappointed by the shrimp Fra Diavolo, it was barely even spicy. The appetizer trio was disappointing as well. The fried calamari was sooo dry!!! The spicy shrimps were overcooked and rubbery. The only thing good was the fried mozzarella with marinara sauce. You know... sometimes bigger ain't better. I had family in town and they were craving Italian. This stop was near their hotel so we stopped in. The decor is very old school, with burgundy red booths. It's gives a very old timey feel so we had high hopes. Our server Laura was a doll, she was professional, polite and explained the menu to us. My review is strictly about the food. Her service was great. We ordered a ton of food and it LOOKED good... my cousins order pepperoni pizza, the appetizer sampler, a chicken dish and I got ravioli with meat sauce.. a TON of food. I'll admit we didn't listen to Laura when she said the smalls fed 3-5 people. We ordered more food to go but ended up canceling it. The ravioli with meat sauce tasted like chef boyardee. Bland! So very bland. The pizza had a good flavor but was floppy, greasy and not appetizing. The sampler with spicy shrimp, mozzarella moons and calamari was bland as well. But the spicy shrimp were so hot! But not in a good way. You got hit with a burst of heat but no actual flavor. My cousins chicken dish.... Looked like raw chicken cutlets, it was literally just white pieces of chicken. Nothing had flavor. We had to order sides or marinara and Alfredo to jazz things up and it was still a bust! We barely wanted to bring the food home, but I hate being wasteful. The restaurant is highly decorated for all kinds of Italian photos and artifacts that are fun to look at. The Peoria location is also a two story restaurant with steps and an elevator. I was here with an eleven person group and we shared a bunch of appetizers and dinner platters.The food really was better than what I expected it to be but most of the food was served cooled off by the time it made it to us. The downside of dining here is that for dinner a couple would have to share maybe two generous platters for dinner and have lots of leftovers to bring home. 3 stars is a positive rating on Yelp and translates to A-OK. read more

I got a gift card to Buca di Beppo from work and burned it on dinner for myself. I went to their website and went with the individual portion of the Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. Super easy to order and set up delivery ahead of time. Order arrived on time and correctly with no issues. Much to surprise, they also tossed in two fairly good sized chunks of bread. This was plenty of food for one person! I really enjoyed this! I know everyone always says that it's difficult to screw up pasta and yeah, maybe that's the case but it was a great meal. Chicken pieces were good sized and the sauce was, indeed, spicy and flavorful. Even though it was delivered, the meal was hot and the bread was warm. I can't comment on the cleanliness of the restaurant, the wait staff or service since I opted for delivery - but I'd definitely order this dish again. My family has had many family celebrations at this location but the last couple of times we went in the late afternoon we were very disappointed. Today we ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and the chicken was rubbery ,dry and lacked any flavor. We also ordered the Chicken Parmesan and the garlic bread which were okay but also lacking flavor and not worth the price. Our group used Buca di Beppo for catering an appreciation lunch. One of the great things about Buca di Beppo is that there is an option to have catering orders delivered. Food was delivered around the desired time. Parts of our catering order were done well. Others not so much. Baked ziti was the big hit. With the extra sauce, the dish was well sauced. Big on flavor. It was a comforting entree. Fettuccine alftedo was classic. Fettuccine needed all the extra sauce. It arrived looking almost dry. Spaghetti with marinara was as basic as it gets. Nothing special about it flavor wise. Even with the extra sauce, there was only enough for the top half of the tray. Noodles in the spaghetti were overcooked. The only reason we did not give it five stars was because there was an issue with our reservations. We made reservations on OpenTable for five and then called to change it to seven and they did not have a reservation. They did accommodate us quickly. Food was very good. Service was very good and we had a good time. One issue that I think they should consider is to put more items on the menu that are not with just chicken. Buca's used to have linguine with clam sauce which they no longer have. They used to have mashed potatoes which they no longer have other than those two things. This place would have gotten 4-5 stars from me a few years ago, but now it deserves 2. I got take out and took it immediately to my car and looked over the containers to make sure it was all there and I noticed the house bread was missing. So, I went back inside to get the bread to which the cashier said she put it there - I said nope it wasn't, which was a weird way to apologize for forgetting the bread. Then I drove home and took everything out and realized there was no butter for the bread, no utensils, no marinara for the calamari, and the lasagna looked burnt. I was def annoyed by all this and placed a call to let the manager know this is unacceptable. The food itself was okay but not as tasty and fresh as previous visits. This place used to be really good and never had a problem but from all the other reviews I've read about recent trips, I can see why this place is headed in the wrong direction.
