My family and I decided to grab some dinner at Buca di Beppo on our way out of Universal Studios Hollywood. My husband made a reservation online in advance while at the park so that we wouldn't have to wait too long to be seated and eat. When we got there we were greeted by a friendly host. She said that our table wasn't ready so we had about a 10 minute wait. The waiting area has a few seats and is decorated with lots of photos on the walls. In the dinning area the decor continues with tables and booths for seating. Upon being seated we waited for our waitress for a few minutes. When she arrived she was friendly. She gave us menus and took our drink order. After a few minutes she returned with our waters and explained how the portion sizes work. We placed our order and waited. The food came out slowly and in stages but we enjoyed sitting down in air conditioning after walking at the park all day. For our food we started with the Garlic Bread which was very flavorful. We also got an Apple Gorgonzola Salad which comes with apples, walnuts, cranberries, and gorgonzola. It was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and the combined flavors were so good. For our meal we got Stuffed Shells which comes with sausage and spinach stuffed in a shell and cheese with Alfredo and Marinara sauce. The pasta shells were huge and full of ingredients. It was very filling. We also shared a Pepperoni Pizza which came with a lot of pepperoni, mozzarella and provolone cheese. It was a good size pizza. The dough wasn't very thick and the crust was good. It was a good pizza with a lot of yummy pepperoni. Overall Buca di Beppo was a nice place to end our day at the park. The atmosphere was welcoming, the service was friendly, and the food was delicious and very filling. read more

We chose Buca di Beppo for a family dinner because one of our family members was visiting California for the first time. We wanted somewhere fun, upbeat, and memorable before walking around the area afterward. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but welcoming. We had a reservation and had a family member with a disability. The hostess could clearly see this, yet initially tried to seat us upstairs. When we explained that wouldn't work, we were offered a high-top bar table--which obviously wasn't appropriate either. Eventually, we were asked to wait while they cleaned a booth downstairs for us. Our server, Moisés, was disappointing from the beginning. We greeted him in Spanish because our family speaks Spanish, but he responded in English and seemed very dismissive. While we were asking questions about the family-style portions, he continuously interrupted and made us feel like our questions were an inconvenience. His tone came across as passive-aggressive rather than welcoming. He eventually seemed to warm up a little, but after bringing bread, he barely checked on us until it was time for the bill. Unfortunately, it wasn't just our server. One family member asked an employee where the restroom was, and instead of acknowledging him or simply saying, "Right over there," she gave him a look and pointed at the restroom sign without saying a word. Even the employee who came around taking photos seemed rushed and dismissive. Everything happened extremely fast, and when we didn't purchase the photos, she visibly seemed annoyed and quickly walked away. What really caught us off guard was another waiter who came over while clearing plates and joked, "Are you guys going to be able to pay, or should we put you in the back to clean?" Maybe he intended it as a joke, but as a Latino family, that comment did not sit well with us at all. There are certain jokes you simply don't make to guests, especially when you don't know them. It felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. I wish I had gotten more employees' names because this didn't feel like an issue with just one person. My family is not the type to complain or create problems, yet everyone at our table noticed the same thing: the overall atmosphere felt unfriendly, dismissive, and as though the staff simply did not want to be there. I understand people are tired, times are difficult, and many of us are working one or even two jobs. But this is a restaurant where people come for birthdays, celebrations, family dinners, and vacations. Hospitality matters. A little kindness, patience, and enthusiasm can completely change someone's experience. I genuinely LOVE giving five-star reviews when they're deserved, but I will also advocate for my family when something isn't right. Management really needs to speak with the staff about hospitality, accessibility, professionalism, and how guests are spoken to. Being kind should be the bare minimum. read more

I really hate to leave a review like this, because I used to work at Buca di Beppo (not this location), but I have to be honest. My wife and I went with her mom and grandma a couple of years ago after walking around Universal Studios. We took advantage of the $40 for 4 promotion they had at the time, I even called ahead and confirmed with a staff member. We were sat and waited quite a bit for a server to come to the table. When someone finally arrived, we ordered the four items we wanted to fulfill the promotion, but the server was super rude and said that they weren't offering it anymore. Annoyed, I relayed to our server that I spoke to someone over the phone and I confirmed multiple times they were still honoring it. Once the manager got involved, the server change their tune and we were able to get the promotion. The food arrived, and I hate to admit that it has dipped in quality in recent years. Unfortunately, we didn't feel satisfied with our meal. Looking around and seeing the vibe of the staff, I can tell the morale has slumped. I get that the company filed for bankruptcy, but that shouldn't seep into the quality of the food and attitude of the staff. A friend of mine & myself had tickets to see a movie in the rather elusive IMAX 70mm format, so we figured we'd grab a bite at a restaurant in CityWalk. I legitimately can't remember the last time that I dined inside a Buca di Beppo. It's definitely been at least a decade or 2. I just remember it being rather chaotic, a tour through their busy kitchen, & huge portions (I remember thinking to myself: Why are the portions so f'n huge? Like what it you want several dishes but these ridiculously huge portions prevent from exercising your variety?". Well, I'm happy to report that you're no longer restricted to these 3 specific things. Why? It was rather "dead" when we came in. There were at least 2 other tables with people. 1 or 2 parties definitely came in before we left. But "chaotic" would be the last word that I would use to describe how busy things were. Although my friend & I arrived rather promptly before our 3pm reservation on a Monday, our hostess seated us directly to our table. I guess "gone" are the days of their prideful kitchen tour. Lastly, doing my usual "due diligence" of looking at their menu days prior to my reservation, I was quite amused to see that they offer a "Buca for One" section for a majority of their standard family style entrées. This is kind of an important thing to note because we ended choosing dishes that are not offered in this "Buca for One" option. FOOD: Italian Bread - 6.9 / 10 Complimentary. soft, classic, nice chew. Pairs well with their olive oil + balsamic vinegar. Be careful with the balsamic vinegar, a little goes a long way. Frutti Di Mare - 3.2 / 10 Your typical seafood in tomato sauce dish. The calamari was rather chewy. The mussels were on the smaller side. I noticed that the red clam sauce was very watery when I reheated this in my oven the next day for leftovers. Although my friend ordered this dish, I didn't care for it much. I definitely wouldn't recommend ordering it nor would I order it again - at least not here. Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken - 7.6 / 10 One of my biggest "fears" of dining at an Italian restaurant is overloading on pasta / carbs & never feeling full. This dish obliterates that fear. 3 sizable chicken breasts stuffed with melty mozzarella + prosciutto. The prosciutto adds a nice fatty/porky contrast to a the blank canvas of chicken. The marinara + pesto cream sauces bring lovely flavors to this protein powerhouse of a dish. I'd say 1 chicken breast is good for 1 serving/person. I'm glad that I ordered this dish & I'd order this again. Pappardelle Bolognese - 9.0. / 10 GET THIS DISH. In fact, get the large option because you'll definitely want to take home leftovers. I won't lie, I was rather impressed with this dish, especially for coming from a chain. This slowed braised beef is the ultimate accompaniment to any pasta. It's hearty, satisfying, & beyond savory. If Buca di Beppo were to ever compete in a tournament to see which restaurant has the best dish, this would be my suggestion. I honestly wish that I could just eat an entire large portion for myself & pass out - but I have this thing called "dignity", unfortunately. I'm not surprised that this dish is not offered in their "Buca for One" section. Seriously, I would absolutely come back / order take out just for this specific dish. I forgot that Buca does this thing where they hire a photographer to take your group's photo. If you never, or rarely go, then this could make for a nice souvenir. I'm not surprised that they're pretty fast at getting you a print of your photo (within 20 minutes-ish) of taking it. My opinions aside, you have to respect the hustle. Huge thanks & shoutout to Moisés who was beyond accommodating & has a lovely sense of humor. He's so on top of his service game, that he has laminated info cards that include QR codes for reviewing him & Buca. I had to come through & show my appreciation + gratitude. There was some sizable time between finishing our meal + waiting for our bill. Granted Moisés likely had his hands full from juggling a number of tables, I'm glad that I had my reservation changed from 4pm to 3pm, or else we would had run it close to the movie's start time. That said, this was all-in-all a great + lovely return to a place that I hadn't been to in something like 22 years (I remember seeing the 2004 Scooby Doo film) after my previous visit. read more

First time at Bucca di Beppo and I must say I was blown away. Coming back from Universal Studios on a blazing hot day, we decided to stop by and have lunch here. First of all, the vibes and atmosphere inside were amazing! It's so cute inside and I loved the whole aesthetic of the restaurant. When we entered, the hostess was very kind and walked us upstairs where she led us to our table. The trip upstairs was nice. It was just as aesthetically pleasing and there were many pictures of celebrities that have visited the different restaurant locations. This is a family style dining, so we ordered the penne alla vodka and the mozzarella garlic bread. I could not get enough of the garlic bread. It was soooo delicious. The pasta was JUST as good. I visited Buca di Beppo and, honestly, it felt a bit overhyped. Even though we had a reservation, the hosts seemed to forget about us we had to remind them multiple times before being seated. It was a busy night, so I definitely recommend making a reservation, otherwise you're looking at about a 45-minute wait. Getting to our table was an experience in itself we were taken through the kitchen and up three flights of stairs, only to be seated in a corner on the third floor. Unfortunately, the space felt very enclosed with poor ventilation. There were no windows, and the lack of airflow made the smells (food, body odor, etc.) really noticeable. To make matters worse, there was a fly hovering around our table, which made the experience feel a bit unsanitary. Another thing that threw me off staff came around taking pictures, but there was no explanation of why, what it was for, or if we'd even get the photos. It just felt random and honestly a bit questionable... very much "Ep.files" vibes. Service was inconsistent. A host initially came for drinks but disappeared, and our actual waiter didn't show up until about 10 minutes later. When our sodas finally arrived, they tasted watered down, which was disappointing. As for the food, pricing ranges from about $44-$70 per item, which makes sense since everything is served family-style. We ordered a kids' spaghetti and the spicy chicken rigatoni. The rigatoni had good flavor, but I wish it had more chicken. My daughter loved her meal, though, so that was a plus. Overall, it was just okay. Spending over $100 didn't feel worth it for the experience. I personally don't love being limited to large, shareable portions especially when everyone wants something different and I hate wasting food. I might give it another chance during lunch when they offer more individual portions and it's less crowded but for now, it's not really my cup of tea. read more

Really good food. I prefer it over Olive Garden; it tastes more authentic and real compared to other places where it can be obvious the food was microwaved. The place serves family-style meals, so everything you order comes as a huge portion, which is great but also can be expensive quickly if you don't watch out. Ordering that main dish with appetizers, a salad, and dessert can cost you big, and you may not even eat it all, so it is very important to look at the menu and only get what you can eat. Most small plates can feed a family of four. I and my wife with kids ordered the chicken carbonara, and between the 4 of us, we could not finish and still had leftovers to take to lunch the next day, so it is a big plate. They have a family meal promotion currently at $40 for pasta salad and breadsticks for 40 people. Remember, all family size is a lot of freaking food. We got that last time, and we had plenty left over, and I highly recommend it. My last visit was great, but for whatever reason we were put in the back with the bigger parties, and they were loud, which was odd because there were plenty of solo booths in front that were empty while there were other booths in the same area occupied. Our fave dinner spot after a long day at Universal! As an Italian myself, this is one of my fave spots. The food is always fresh & quick service! We even ordered to go & it was ready in 15 mins. You have to try the spicy chicken rigatoni (marinara + alfredo sauce mix) , it is my fave dish & it inspired me to learn how to make it at home. My hubby loves the pepperoni pizza, they will cover it with meat. The place itself is cozy and there are tons of decor on the walls to look at/appreciate. Our fave italian spot, highly recommend trying. Lil secret tip ask the front to be seated in the kitchen, there is a booth back there where you can watch them cook the meals and the waiter will explain the process. So FUN! read more

After a long day at Universal we ended our day at Buca di Beppo! It was crowded so I'm glad we were prepared with a reservation. We ordered the baked rigatoni, spicy arrabiata, and chicken Parmesan. All the portions were hefty even for the regular size. The only thing I would say needed some work was how soggy the parmigiana was. 3/5 The baked rigatoni was amply served with the sauce tasting pretty good. 3.5/5 Spicy arrabiata wouldn't be my first choice but the crust was good somewhat lacking flavor but serviceable, undercarriage needed some work. 3/5 But what made our night was the service, we had a great waiter who had our corner well attended. read more

Celebrated my daughter's 13th birthday here. Requested for the Pope Room and we got it! We take turns between Pasadena and this City Walk location. The energy's awesome - perfect for any type of occasion. We've celebrated birthdays and graduations with Buca. It's family style and the portions are HUGE - most importantly- they've stayed consistent. Consistent with quality, taste, portions and service. (When I say we've celebrated many milestones here, I'm talking for atleast the last 15+ years and it's always awesome.) This time I decided to get 3 orders of the 4 for $49 deal that came with 3x garlic bread, salad, pasta, and entree. After a long hot day at Universal Studios, this place hits the spot!! Around 7pm on a Wednesday mid-June, we were able to easily get a table upstairs without a reservation. Portions are HUGEEE and are def meant to be shared. Everything was tasty, especially the Eggplant Parmigiana and the Baked rigatoni. I would also get the Buca Trio Platter again for the shrimp and calamari. Pizza wasn't memorable... everything came out to $28, split between 7-ish people! I was dining with the party of reviewer Lea P, and as someone who used to work inside the theme park for more than a year, I can honestly say that this is **not the standard we were taught when it came to treating guests.** This was not the level of service I would expect from Universal CityWalk. I was personally there when the comments were made by the waiter (Moises) , and I found them extremely disappointing and inappropriate. I considered saying something at the time, but honestly, I was not in the right headspace to bring it to anyone's attention in the moment. The food was okay, but the service was genuinely horrible. Some of the comments and interactions also came across as insensitive and, at times, racially inappropriate, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously. Guests deserve to feel welcomed, respected, and comfortable when they visit CityWalk. Please do better and make sure you are hiring and training people who genuinely understand what good guest service should look like. Kids wanted spaghetti before heading home so here we are. Parked at the structure for free cause we have season passes but I think you get 2 hours for free with validation? Don't quote me lol We got in at 5-6pm on a Sunday and got seated right away. They have their own restroom but you have to cross by the kitchen which was weird to me. They have bar seating but not sure if you have to still wait for those seats but since we had the kids, we sat at the first booth inside. The wait staff has someone going around taking pictures so it's really cute if you want a picture to take home, but it'll cost ya so you've been warned. We shared the bruschetta which comes out in a HUGE martini glass, not your typical bruschetta so don't be alarmed but it was super fresh, not overly seasoned, and very shareable. Focusing on not overly seasoned, the kids spaghetti is bland, the one inside the park at Toadstool Cafe is very bland but this is a tiny bit better but still bland but I guess that's good since it's for kids. It is a large portion but it's also for kids under 10 and our little one is 6 so it was a huge portion for him. We shared a pizza since the 2nd kiddo wanted pizza from the kids menu, our little one is 8 so she just had a slice and the adults were on a diet so one slice each with the appetizer made a nice light dinner. The pizza is rectangles shaped with about 6 slices. I would say it looks more like a medium or large so if you typically have a medium alone, I'd suggest not to share. read more

My family and I came here yesterday 7/19 for an early dinner. The food service and food were fine but the photographer was something else. The first time he came by to our table we were already surprised and confused. Then of course we understood what he was trying to do once we saw his camera. We've been to this Buca many times before and have never experienced anything bad with the staff. We already knew that the pictures were not complimentary except for the small one. So, when the photographer came back with the pictures and we decided not to get them we handed them back to him nicely. The photographer immediately turned around with eyes rolling and with attitude. My parents, husband, and I noticed it. The table across us even noticed the photographer's attitude towards us. I guess the other customer's were waiting for our reaction as the photographer left. They were letting us know that they got the same attitude from the photographer. First of all, his attitude was not very professional! Secondly, we are not obligated to buy the pictures. It'll be better to offer to have our family pictures taken for a fee. Instead of him thinking he wasted his time and energy on taking/preparing the pictures that we weren't going to purchase. We left with a bad experience from Buca. The previous photographers never gave us that attitude before. read more

Our son and his girlfriend were in town visiting Universal so we drove up from San Diego to see them. They suggested Buca di Beppo for dinner so I made reservations. The restaurant is way in the back of the City Walk so fighting the crowds to get there was not fun but that's no fault of the restaurant. We were seated at our reservation time in a comfortable booth in the back (we got to walk through the kitchen!) Our waitress was excellent! We ordered a Caesar salad and the baked ziti. The food was just okay. The salad was warm and wilted and tasted like bagged lettuce and the ziti was bland and boring. This is my first time visiting. It's one of my husband's favorite spots to go. I enjoyed the family experience. They truly make you feel welcome. The staff is very friendly. They help guide you through a very narrow walkway. The restaurant is on the upstairs so you walk past the kitchen very clean everything is very well put together then you go upstairs about three flights of stairs and they take you to your table. There's a lot of history on the walls. There's just a lot of art and then you sit down they take your order while you're eating or before you're eating they come around and they take a souvenir picture and they will sell you additional pictures for $25 each absolutely gorgeous pictures. We ended up buying two and we enjoyed our food. It was very delicious. We spent $201 I believe but all the portions are share size they're not individual so if you go by yourself, you better be ready for a doggy bag because you're walking out with leftovers. Despite having to wait about a half hour after our reservation time, the food and drinks were delicious! It's a unique restaurant that is way bigger inside than it looks. Service was overall good, besides that fact that there was a photographer taking photos of us without warning us that it costs money, prompting us to awkwardly deny the photos after they were printed. Many restaurants take and print photos for free, so this is another money grab opportunity directed toward tourists. All their dishes are family style. We ordered four dishes: Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Buca Trio Platter, Chicken Saltimbocca, and Margherita Pizza. We also ordered several drinks as well including a Red Sangria and Italian Primo Margarita. The food were all great, but I personally felt the Margherita Pizza was a bit lacking in flavor. I really enjoyed the spiciness and creaminess of the Shrimp Fra Diavolo though. And the different apps in the Buca Trio Platter were delicious too, especially the Fried Mozzarella. The inside was a cozy and family oriented restaurant. As for food, we got the buca trio platter for appetizers. I loved the fried mozzarella triangles! They were delicious with the combo of marinara sauce. For entrees, we shared a fettucine alfredo and sausage and mushroom pizza. T The chicken alfredo was creamy and it was huge! Moises was such an amazing server!!! My partner and I came here to celebrate my birthday, it was my first time at Buca and Moises took the time to explain how the menu worked and even offered some amazing recommendations! The service was excellent which made the experience even better! Moises was very professional in every way possible and very knowledgeable of the menu!!
