A hidden gem! A small, family-owned K-BBQ restaurant where everyone takes great care of the customers. The place is very clean, and the prices are great. They also have dedicated parking spots underneath the building and nearby, which is a big plus for K-Town. I loved their marinated beef belly -- the sauce really makes the difference. Their soybean paste sauce (ssamjang) has a nice, savory flavor. I didn't eat much of their chili sauce, but it was tangy and a little spicy, which helped cut the grease nicely. Since I have gone to so many other KBBQ restaurants, I can tell you that if you are picky with meat quality then you probably would not want to come to Bud Namu. I recognize that I could definitely get better Beef Brisket cut elsewhere, but if you're just looking for an affordable, AYCE KBB experience, don't complain and just consume. I enjoyed that my additional sides were basically at a small, self-service station that I could refill at my convenience. The ambiance is so quaint, and in this season, all decorated with Christmasy decor The staff is so so so nice and so so so friendly all with smiling happy faces The buffet is on point with every single thing that a KBBQ should have: jap chai, radish paper, bean sprouts, Ssamjang, potato salad, pickled onions, the works! So this place was almost perfect. Almost because I did have a couple of qualms: -I didn't like how the staff kept coming to cook my food and place it on my plate (as much as I love that they do this, especially at a place that's not even high-end, I would still like them to ask me first since at this point I actually do like to cook the food myself. I've been here a few times w my bf & we both really liked it due to the budget friendly prices, good quality of meats, & overall good/attentive service. However, the last time we went was highly disappointing & I don't think we'll be returning. We went late on a Sunday night at around 9pm since we saw online that they didn't close til 11pm so we thought that was enough time for us to eat whilst also not staying so late that it would upset the staff. Mind you, I work in retail so I make sure to never show up too late to a restaurant bc I know what it's like to have last min customers when all you wanna do is go home. Even while keeping this in mind & trying our best to be considerate of their time, they were not very considerate of ours or our money. We get there & were met w a woman who seemed to be distracted on her phone, but another man waiting on tables saw us & sat us down immediately so we were off to a good start. He asked us how we were & in turn asked him the same. He said he was good, but that he was tired. We even apologized for coming in late, but he said that it was okay since he still had to be there until 11pm anyway. So, we begin ordering & after about 30 mins at 9:30pm, he lets us know that they're doing last call. We were kind of confused since it still seemed early, but we went along w it anyway & ordered one more round. Then, he brings us the check & doesn't even say anything. It was as if there was a sudden shift in his mood. We try brushing it off, but then he comes back a third time saying he needed payment bc there were closing their registers.. it was only about 9:58pm at this point & he said himself that they closed at 11pm earlier. Why are you closing your registers an hour before close? Anyway, we put our card down, he takes it & comes back w the receipt to sign. My bf didn't sign it right away bc we're still eating at this point, but this man tried to take it anyway. It wasn't until my bf spoke up & said "I haven't signed that yet" when he finally backed off & said sorry. We were so upset at this point that I couldn't even finish my meal in peace. We felt so rushed to get out of there & to make matters worse, they had turned all their TV's & music off making for an uncomfortable & tense environment. We really shouldn't have felt rushed to leave since we were spending good money there, but we left earlier than expected anyway bc it was so obvious that we weren't wanted there. Looking back, the man who was serving us mood changed after an Asian family in front of us left. They were all speaking to each other in what I'm guessing was Korean the first half hour we got there & it wasn't until they left that he started rushing everybody else in the restaurant out. I can't help but feel discriminated against for being brown, I don't think they would've treated us that way if we were also Asian. And if you wanted to close early that night bc you were "so tired" then you should've never seated us in the first place. I would've much rather been turned away at the door & gone to another KBBQ in the area where we could've spent our money somewhere it would've been appreciated. What disappointing experience. I really liked this place. I guess you shouldn't really judge a book by its cover. I was initially hesitant to come here especially because it was for my brother's surprise birthday dinner. But, I'm glad we came because I was so pleasantly surprised. The inside is nice and even their bathroom was clean. There are different tiers of meat options to choose from and we chose B. The meats were good and flavorful. We really liked their spicy pork and beef belly. The have a small buffet section that has veggies, Kim chi, potato salad, etc. Their potato salad is so good that I could've eaten a whole plate of it. I can't gatekeep this place. **They already add a tipping service fee which I personally think is fair. Even the cheapest option is great -- pork belly, brisket, thin pork belly, beef belly, chicken, bulgogi and more. Of course they change your grill for you when the grill gets too burnt. Parking: So much parking made easy everywhere! You can park under the restaurant as it has a huge sign that it's their parking. Across the street they also have a huge sign that indicates bud namu parking. DO NOT park directly across the street at the market parking. There are signs everywhere that says only parking for the grocery store and it's LA so they WILL tow you. Park in the designated Bud Namu lot, you won't run into issues finding parking. I went during dinner on a weekend and it was fine. Even more, the worker was going around the restaurant asking if we owned a specific car because they didn't want us to get towed, so nice! There's also a salad bar where they have mac salad, potato salad, kimchi, mixed greens, radish, etc. Yes, they don't have a lot of options for the $23.99 menu butttt if all you want is to eat a bunch of basic (but delicious) meats, it's worth it! My husband and I usually tap out after 3 rounds so we definitely get our money's worth. We could maaaybe go for 4th or 5th round if extra hungry but we find ourselves stopping at round 3 even at other ayce places like ayce sushi and chinese buffets. Best quality meat for price that I've found so far! I absolutely love kbbq so I've tried a lot of places and by far this is my favorite. I especially love the get-it-yourself style for the appetizers. We came in on a Thursday night, and had to wait for 30 mins, which tells you how busy it gets. The banchan spread is delicious, and buffets style. I got rice, radish, kimchi, ginger and jalapjalapeño and everything was amazing. I've been to Bud Namu KBBQ for a couple times now and while it used to be one of my go-to spots, my recent visits have been disappointing. The quality of the meat has noticeably changed. They start you off with premium cuts that are flavorful and tender, but after that first round, the quality takes a sharp decline. The subsequent meat orders lack the same quality, and it feels like you're getting a much lower grade of meat as you go. Additionally, when we got there Friday night the place isn't that busy, no waiting time, more vacant tables but it looks like they're still understaffed. The service was super slow, and even some of the sides on the bar are empty and nobody's refilling it until we asked them to, the overall experience just isn't worth it. Banchan was average but the soybean soup was quite delicious. The grill is different than what I was used to, meat took longer to cook and the cooking surface is only about 60% of the grill but I hardly needed grill changes.
