NO MANAGER EVER CAME To talk to us. We were a party of 9. I was shocked. They took my 8 year olds 6.00 meal off the bill. Big deal???? I will never step foot in this place again. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! we then found out a waitress that worked there had the same thing happen to her in her root beer. They told us they were going to drain the root beer lines... gross. My family and I have eaten here twice...once on a regular night and once on Thanksgiving. The waitstaff is very friendly and the bar prices are reasonable, but the food has ranged from so-so to inedible. We had a reservation for Thanksgiving and still had to wait over 30 minutes for our table. The soup and salad bar was okay, but they brought our entrees almost as soon as we got our salads. I understand the need for a restaurant to turn tables, but it seemed like they were pushing us out the door. The turkey was dry, the stuffung was like paste and the gravy was obviously from a can. The biggest sin of the meal was that the "Maine Blueberry Crisp" was obviously made using canned blueberry pie filling...in Maine! At least my local beer was good. read more

We arrived and there weren't many people there. We had two adults and three kids, ages 2,5, and 8. We ordered quickly, waited about 20 minutes for appetizers and then when dinner FINALLY arrived one of the adult meals wasn't even close to being done. So after all three kids were done and my boyfriend finished his steak dinner I ended up getting my clam bake to go. Only to get home and find that they sent me with lobster and clams, no corn on the cob and no butter. Everything was dried out and so I will be carrying my food all the way home to NY just to be able to enjoy it. Don't waste your time or money. read more

On our visit the food was very good and the portions were huge. The wait staff was friendly but we had to wait 20 min before our waitress showed up at the table. We were told the hostess did not tell her that we were at her table. While there I saw the same thing happen to the people that got seated across from us, different waitress but same excuse. The service was horrible, when we asked the server to split our check for our good size group, she actually rolled her eyes and huffed. We did not receive refills and one order was cooked wrong (not the servers fault and the person that received it chose not to mention it). So much band for your buck! It's directly across from Maine diner, but larger seating area, so lines aren't as long. This used to be a cafeteria style eatery, but it's now sit down, with wait staff, and salad bar. Food portions are excellent and you'll generally get 2 meals out of your order, so very price right! If you're a senior, they have a nice senior menu for $7.95 (may restrict days). They have an enormous margarita bowl for 2+ pple which is also priced fairly. My family recently checked out the Bull & Claw and were pleasantly surprised. We've always gone to the Maine Diner across the street for many years and always wondered what the larger restaurant across the street was all about. The all you can eat salad and soup bar was a hit and the rest of the menu was the same standard fare you would get at Maine Diner. The waitstaff was super nice and efficient. I hate leaving bad reviews, but, I signed up for yelp for the sole purpose of reviewing this restaurant. We had reservations and were seated fairly quickly. That is where the good part ends... It took over 30 minutes to place our order. The waitress constantly apologized because she had to go take someone else's order or grab their food. Eventually after about an hour she brought out our rolls. About 1 minute after that she brought out our dinners. Of course, she apologized for bringing out the rolls but she had to wait for them to come out of the oven - the rolls were cold... She brought me a prime rib even though I ordered a delmonico ribeye. She noticed the mistake as she set it down and said she could take it back. She took it back and within 2 minutes I had a "delmonico" on my plate. Problem was, it was the SAME slab of prime rib, just grilled a little bit. I brought it to her attention and she was very defensive. She brought out the chef who insisted it was a delmonico. End story - the food was ok, bit the service was terrible. I don't always pay attention to reviews because they are usually unfair. I have tried my best to keep this as fair as possible. Go there and try it out for yourself. But I had a really bad experience. read more

My husband and I went there for our anniversary and I was not impressed! Ny steak was ordered medium rare and it was well done. For the price I was paying for the food I did not think it would come with instant potatoes! And to top it all off there was hair in the potatoes! And it wasn't mine I'm not a blonde! Went for New Year's Eve - was our first and most likely our last visit. We arrived early for our reservation - but they were great about sitting us early. Of course that was because most of the restaurant was empty. We sat for probably 10 or 15 minutes before a waitress would even come by - we ordered drinks - which were great. We ordered our meals - but was never offered the salad bar. If I hadn't asked we wouldn't have had it. When the meal came - the sauces were in covered plastic tubs - like for take out. The green beans over cooked and wilted - I had a baked potato but wasn't able to get a chance to ask for butter - waitress didn't come back. My fiancé had a steak that was small, not cooked correctly and over peppered. He couldn't eat it - and lost is appetite to even eat anything else. The place is very dated and so was the food. Saturday night 4 of us went to the Bull and Claw before a play. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away. We waited a short time when the waitress arrived, We weren't quite ready so she came back. She brought our drinks and took the order. We ordered burgers, lobster rolls and clam strips, lobster stew and clam chowder. After quite a wait she goes by the table and says "your stew will be out shortly. They are making it." Right. She brings the stew and chowder. I asked if the rest of the meal could come as quickly as possible as we had been there for quite sometime and didn't want to be late for the play. She stated "I put the whole order in when I put the stew in." We waited and waited and waited. Finally the order came. My friend order a lobster roll with hot butter, She said "oh, I will bring you the butter." After 10 minutes I had to ask another waitress as we could not find ours. She brought it right away. We ate fast but could not find the waitress to bring our check. Another waitress had to write up our bill and take our payment. The 4 of us spent 100.00 with no drinks. We have never been so insulted by service as we were with this waitress. Once she dropped the food off we never saw her again or we were not assigned another waitress. Never checked if we needed anything. Never asked if we wanted dessert. I spent my time running around looking for service. Service can make or break a restaurant. You could have great food but we will never be back. The Bull and Claw is responsible for the people they hire. read more

We always travel to Kennebunkport in August. Every year we try a new restaurant ... Bull N' Claw was this year's pick. We read all the reviews which we found entertaining. Yes the decor is outdated...the owner had stated he updated 4 times, but it is 2019 not 1987. Nevertheless less we were seated promptly, the table was clean and our very busy waitress Sherry was friendly and attentive. (Our menus were not dirty) we ordered and proceeded to the Salad Bar. We enjoyed the fresh variety of choices on the salad bar. We never tried soup ... and the rolls were very good. Our dinners arrived in a timely manner. The prime rib and lobster dinner was excellent.... tasty and hearty. The fish and chips were great, it was a very large potion for the price. Unfortunately the baked stuffed lobster didn't measure up. The stuffing was very subpar and tasted like it was better suited for a turkey dinner. The bears in the lobby are not real as one reviewer thought... there is nothing to be frighten by! All in all it was worth trying, but Allison's is still our favorite. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for years. Our favorites are the breakfast buffet and the 2-foot-long lobster roll. The exotic alcohol/non-alcohol drinks are the most creative and delicious we have ever come across. Recently we went and both had the lobster and steamers dinner which was perfect in every way. Though all of our waitstaff is always wonderful every time, Stephanie was over-the-top awesome. Even though the décor IS dated, I think that's part of the charm. It has been spotless each time we have dined there and the prices are very fair for the portions and quality you get. We will always consider this one of our favorites places to eat and will request Stephanie when we go back several more times this summer. read more

Ate there for lunch. The BLT was nothing more than thick carved deli meat which had a gross clear slime on it. My son got sick on it before we even left. Marinara sauce was too watery. Decor was very dated. We saw cobwebs from our booth. Waitress seemed uninterested and unenthusiastic. Drink refills were prompt but food took forever when the place didn't seem too busy. Avoid. Great Sunday Brunch!!! My family and I could not find a Sunday Brunch buffet anywhere near our home in Portland. Every restaraunt in Portland claims they have a brunch but it is only ordering off the lunchor breakfast menu. A friend told us about the Bull and Claw so we tried. Definitely glad we did. After seeing the commercials for years my wife and I decided to give it a try,,,,what a mistake,,we live in Bridgton,,,and an hour and fourtyfive minuetes later we arrive at the bull and claw. Service was excellent got rite in no waiting. My wife ordered the clams and scollops plate ,,,I ordered the fish and scollops ,,,,the meal came in quick time slightly over done but good that was at 130 on the 19th of febuary in the afternoon,,,,by four o'clock we were feeling like something wasn't right and by 8 pm we were both very sick which lasted most of the night.We both had the scollops it was either that or they have very bad oil in the deep fryer,,,,We will never go back read more

Giving this place 2 stars is being generous. Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. The place was near empty,yet took 20 minutes to get seated and another 20 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. The waiter was a little bitch. And that's being nice, because if I was one of his coworkers I would have called him out on his attitude and demeanor. I wish I could remember his name,because he sucked!Took 10 minutes for 2 sodas, and then another 15 minutes for him to come back for our order. We ordered a scallop plate and clam plate. After about 35 minutes a different server came to the table to ask us what we had ordered. She promptly brought out our lunch and apologized for our waiter.....if that's what you want to call him. The food was slightly warm and not very good. She told us he went home to change his shoes and never came back.....we spend a lot of time in Wells during the summer and this is one place we WON'T be going back to. Dined here this weekend for the second time and requested the same server, Amelia. Had the fish and chips and it was a large portion and very good. Tried the lobster scampi that my husband ordered and it was delicious and abundant with lobster. Definitely recommend. Decided to visit the Bull and Claw because the Maine Diner (across the street) had a 50+ minute wait for dinner, which my two small children were never going to make. We make at least one trip here every year when we stay in Kennebunkport. The food is yummy and also a great value. They have an awesome soup and salad bar as well. The decor is a little dated, but I think it kind of adds to the charm. We went for lunch on 7/8/16, and our waitress Natalie was awesome. I ordered right off the menu, no special requests. Stuffed Haddock Newburg. Easy .40 minutes later was brought out the "senior" portion, which I did not order , because I am not even close to being a senior but for some strange reason the waitress said she "thought" that what I was ordering. So, despite it. I can't wait another 40 minutes and my family is eating. (Their food was fine). I'll just eat the senior version, It'll be good but... Fish was plain, not stuffed, burnt black on bottom, carrots were semi frozen or just plain raw and very cold . Potatoes were instant because there were flakes on my plate. It was the worst meal that had ever been given to me in decades. The newburg sauce was sitting so long under the heat lamp it cooked in the cup thing they put it in and formed a film like crust on the top. I was like ok, raw carrots burnt fish. How does this happen? We are local and have been to BNC many times There have been times when it was real good,and times it wasn't that great but never this bad from the assuming , unapologetic waitress to the food. They were not busy, only 4 tables going. She never asked if we wanted refils, totally ignored us, It was "comped: she said, like she did me a favor and never apologized. Although we own a house in Wells and have coming to Wells for40+ years my wife and I had never been there until last weekend. coming back from morning Mass in Kennebunk on Sunday,we decided to stop for the buffet. We were pleased with the experience. I liked the decor-old and comfortable. The buffet food was tasty ,fresh & well prepared. The price was very reasonable & the waitress was friendly and kept our cups filled with coffee.after having gone there once,we would definitely go again. We dined at the Bull & Claw during the off season, the night of an 8" snow fall. The hostess was welcoming and friendly (and expecting her first child.... congrats!) and made us feel welcomed. The cook however was grousing about having to cook for us and wanting to close up and go home. It was only 6:00 pm and being the off season, there weren't a lot of other dinner options available. After negotiations between the hostess/waitress/bartender and the unhappy cook, we were allowed to order and our meal was prepared quickly. The food was okay and the service was exceptional. The decor felt a lot like stepping into 1970 and fell short of being 'retro' to being just old. Some updating (and dusting) is needed. read more

Amelia not only remembered me, she remembered that I had ordered the Chunky Monkey's Funky Bunky (which was a really fun drink, by the way). What a great place! Our reservations were for 8pm this past Saturday night and we were seat promptly...our waitress was absolutely wonderful!!! She answered all our questions and really made us feel like we'd been going there forever...we ordered the steak and whole lobster dinners and it arrived just as we were finishing our salads ( salad bar is awesome too) Everything was cooked to perfect and delicious!
