Today I took my family out to lunch here and we had a terrible experience. 1. The food was good. 2. The server was awefull, She asked my 13 daughter where she got her dress, we said Wal-Mart then she reply : I can't find Shit there. 3. Kids order cheeseburger from menu 5.99 with 2.99 extra for frys. 4. My daughter step away to use the restroom, came back to our table and said there is a issue with water overflowing, We told her to let our server know which her reply was: We know that women over there in the wheelchair plugged it up. 5. Our Bill came and we notice the kids meal was double the price, we paid. 6. We spoke the the hostess and he got our server, when we showed her she said: I order them the 1/4 lbs which is more... Next time be more specific! I will not patron this place again and I Will tell all my family & friends to do the same. read more

Living in central Maine, I had always told my husband I'd like to go here the next time we were in town. We took the kids to York Animal Kingdom on 100+ degree day and on the way home, stopped for a late lunch. We were glad there were no crowds and we walked right in, seated immediately. The place is huge, decor is dated for sure. My husband said he had been here as a kid and it hadn't changed at all. We ordered the lobster rolls and were glad they were a good size on an actual roll, not a scoop thrown on a hot dog bun like a lot of places do. The kids had the chicken and pizza which they loved. Usually kids meals are microwave/boxed meals or crappy mac n cheese...but it seemed as though this was an actual hand made pizza. The food was excellent. Our server was pleasant. They were out of ice cream sandwiches for the kids, so they each go a bowl of ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sauce instead. If it wasn't such a hot day, we probably would have ordered some more 'heavy' seafood like the Lobster Louie, which looked great. Maybe next time ! As others have said, maybe an interior make over should be in the plans, but other than that the food and service was worth the visit. Recommend ! read more

Nothing fancy but decent food and fairly priced. We ate there a few times in 2014 and 2015 and found this a great alternative to the over-hyped places. The servers were all wonderful. I'm sure we'll go back again when we are in the area again later this month. read more

Totally disgusted; the dining experience was disappointing, but the way we were treated by Robin (the self-proclaimed Manager) was despicable and unforgivable. daryl Tudisco proudly bills himself as the owner since 1973; Daryl Tudisco should be ashamed of himself. We stopped in here passing through Wells; we ordered a steak (medium) and shrimp and mussels Fra Diavolo. We were served a somewhat uncooked steak and Mussels (possibly) Marinara; definitely not Fra Diavolo. The server offered to "fix" my plate and add shrimp to it and bring the steak back to the kitchen for further cooking. That's all fine and good, but how would she magically transform my sauce into Fra Diavolo? No thanks, we say, pay for our drinks and head for the exit. Had dinner elsewhere, then called the restaurant to speak to the Manager. Had the displeasure of speaking to Robin, who told me that I should be glad that she didn't charge me for the food. "But we didn't eat anything," I said. She insisted that it was fine and that she didn't see anything wrong with it. She said the Fra Diavolo is the owner's recipe and it's definitely Fra Diavolo. What about the shrimp, the mussels, and how do you know that the wrong sauce wasn't served on my plate? Robin doesn't care. Robin reminds me of how lucky I should feel that she didn't charge me. Robin hangs up on me. Daryl Tudisco, I hope you are reading this. If I were you, I'd be very, very ashamed of my staff and I would hire a competent and courteous person to manage my restaurant. I would also a hire a graduate of a fine culinary school who knows how to cook meat "medium" and who can craft a Fra Diavolo sauce that doesn't taste like plain ol' marinara. From a jar, can, nonetheless). This was an absolutely shameful, disappointing experience. On the upside, the salad bar was awesome and the creamy Italian dressing was spot on. read more

I had the Lobster roll for lunch. It was outstanding. I was pleased with the portion size. The service was outstanding as well. I will visit Bull-N-Claw again when I am in the area. I will recommend to my family, friends and co-workers to visit here, it's worth it. read more

My Husband and I have been wanting to eat here for a while but haven't had a chance. We stopped in when we were in Wells today. The service was excellent our waitress was very kind and attentive. The food was very good and the portion size was unbelievable! We decided to go with the share platter (more then enough for 2 people) for $37, which is priced very reasonably considering you can go out to many other seafood restaurants and pay double that for 2 meals and not get nearly as much. We ended up bringing home a container which was enough for a whole other meal. Keep up the good work we will be finding our way back to Wells in the near future just to stop and eat here. read more

My wife and I just left your restaurant and we were so very disappointed. The last time we were there we had such a great meal and we would recommend you to everyone. I ordered whole clams and scallops just like last time. This time I only received clam strips and pieces of batter which were cold. The scallops were cut in half and cold. The fries were also cold which left me to wonder if I received someone's leftover meal. Our waitress tried to find her manager and she was no where to be found. I was so disappointed that your quality has gone down so much. We will no longer be recommending your restaurant and will be telling everyone we know about our bad experience. My wife and I stopped for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We like that they have such a large dining area, which cuts down on wait time. This trip there was no wait. Our waitress, Amelia, was very knowledgable and had a great personality. The salad bar had a nice selection including potato and pasta salads. The rolls are wonderful, especially if they are warm from the oven. I tried the broiled haddock and it was really good, I especially liked what seemed to be Ritz crackers on top. We did not have a long wait for our food. Amelia was appropriately attentive, asking if we needed anything, refilling drinks, and bringing the check. We will definitely return! read more

Let's start here, my grandmothers macaroni salad had a hair embedded in it, saw no kitchen help wearing hair nets, my mothers delmonico steak could barely be cut let alone chewed, my burger was way overcooked. Now onto their customer service, our waitress honestly seemed to be trying her best but was clearly not performing her job well at all, when my mother asked if there was a manager to speak to about the hair in the salad the greeter literally laughed in her face and said "No there's no manager right now". Our family is not one to complain much but this restaurant was ridiculous, they are way too overpriced for what they offer. I'll start out by saying that I will never go to this restaurant again. Ever. I was excited to start our vacation at our first restaurant in Maine, we picked the wrong place to go! Our waitress acted as if we were bothering her by just being there and she was very unprofessional. I ordered the signature cocktail and when it arrived I was mortified by the taste! Truely the worst mix of alcohol I have ever had. Just disgusting tasting. Our food was overcooked and WAY overpriced. The waitress said their only vegetable was broccoli so my husband agreed (he had no other choice) and when she brought the food his plate had green beans on it! When he said something to her she said " oh yea they changed the vegetable last week" LAST WEEK LADY!? Overall regret going to this place. Stay away if you can. read more

Dear Mr. T, I'm very sorry that expenses to operate a business are difficult. I find the same thing as I'm sure every other business owner does. Several others in the beautiful town of Wells, ME have done quite nicely balancing that with quality, service, and still acknowledging the patronage of thousands of customers without dismissing their substantiated experiences as "whining". It is very noble of you to stay open year round to support your employees. I do NOT come from a big city, and in fact was born and raised in a small town, not unlike Wells. That is exactly why I chose to bring my family to enjoy the area. I am glad to hear that you have managed to stay in business so long. If you look at any of my other reviews you will see that I am hardly the type to list frivolous anything, and generally am proud to support many "small businesses" exactly because I believe in supporting local employees and owners first, rather than huge conglomerates that put many hidden gems out of business. I thank you for the kind assertion that my review was eloquent, however my only concern was honesty. The service was sub-standard, there was an absence of four different items that appear on your menu, the lobster roll was overpriced and undersized, the clam strip roll was cold by the time it arrived, it is that simple. If you are upset by the review then I challenge you to improve the quality of any of those items and wait for another person who will have a better experience and therefore provide a higher review. My wife and I are from central Ma, and we vacation, take day trips up to the York/Ogunquit/Wells section of the Maine coast often. My wife has Celiacs disease, which means her meals MUST be gluten free. They have always been able to accommodate this without my wife feeling like there was a limited selection for her. We have enjoyed dining at the Bull and Claw since 2002. I do not like seafood, and their menu has plenty of choices for me, our friends who often travel with us love seafood, and rave about the Bull and Claws. They always have specials on meals and drinks. We have been coming up to Wells for the long weekend in Feb for 14 years now, and today is Presidents' Day 2016, we just returned from our 3'rd visit in 3 days. They have a large fireplace in the dining room, and on cold days it feels nice to sit by it. We had Staci as our waitress on Saturday night, and she was so nice and friendly we asked for her on Sunday morning, and lunch today. (Kinda surprised she didn't run for the hills when she saw us come in today LOL) (She has a good sense of humor). The Bull and Claw is one of our favorite standbys in Wells. read more

We recently went to the Maine diner which was yummy and discovered Bull and Claw due to it's proximity. This trip was soley to go to Bull and Clas and I love salad bars so admit that was my draw. My husband had the special which not only inculdes the salad bar in the cost but also a three soup variety bar. The swordfish was prepared the way her asked and not how listed on the menu. That impressed him to start. I was also impressed that what I wanted broiled haddock, was ona smaller portion menu so I could get the salad bar add on and not feel like I would be wasting money on my meal if I didn't finish. Out waitress was very attentive, if anything, seemed as if too much wait staff for the amount of people in the restaurant. They had business awards on the wall int he entrance dating back to 2001 and even though the decor is not up to date, the food was so delicious you could look past it. The salad bar is in an old boat and that adds a bit to the charm. We will definitely return again. read more

Two words... don't bother! Went in for lunch- greeted by the most unfriendly hostess who looked and acted like she hated her job. Our waitress did not introduce herself nor notify us of any specials or recommendations. The pasta dish had extremely runny / watery sauce and the waitress noted this when it was brought, but served it anyways. Upon rounding up the waitress to point out this issue, she took it back with the explanation that the cook was new. The dish was reserved with better sauce, but no further explanation. The fish and chips order was fine but charged at the dinner menu price and not at the lunch priced as advertised on the marquee. When this was pointed out to the waitress, she stated that it was my fault not indicating I wanted the lunch item. I stated she didn't offer two choices and since it was lunch time assumed that's what was being served. She frowned and took the check to request an adjustment. Over all the experience was exhausting, unsatisfying and mediocre at best. If this restaurant was located in Portland they would be out of business in a month! read more

If it were possible to give this place a negative rate that's absolutely what they would be given. It took an hour and a half just to get a cheeseburger after our entire table had already been served. Not to mention the table beside us that had be seated 30 minutes later were given their food before us which included 4 lobster dinners. When the burger finally came out we told the waitress who was named Lisa we were all set and did not want it, her response was "well it's done, it's here." She reluctantly took it back to the kitchen, that's when we decided to ask for a manager. The poor excuse for a "manager" named Robin (who appeared to be under some type of influence whether it be drugs or alcohol I'm not certain) began to tell us that burgers take longer to cook than lobsters ... I didn't know it took an hour and half to grill a burger and place it on a bun especially when 2 other people at the table had already been served their burgers which were the exact same thing as the one we were waiting for. Let's not forget that everyone's food had been lukewarm, and 3 plates were totally screwed up. If you aren't hesitating to even pull into the parking lot yet, when we were finally given our bills the burger (that must have been cut from the cow itself to have taken so long) was still on the check! We told our waitress Lisa, that we were absolutely not paying for the burger and her response yet again was "well it was done and brought out to you." Upon telling the "manager" Robin, that they could call the cops and we were still not paying for the burger it was finally taken off the tab. We did end up paying $8 for a cup of soup that was brought out 40 minutes before the rest of the table got their food, I should add that 18% gratuity is included for partys of 6 or more; even if you separate the checks. That is good for Lisa considering she wasn't going to receive a dime from anyone at the table after her HORRIBLE service and attitude. This place is an absolute disgrace as far as service and food quality, if I were you I would stay as far away as possible. read more

We could not have been anymore pleasantly surprised by not only the fantastic meal we had today but the staff at the Bull n Claw went over and above to make our daughters birthday one to remember! Katt was our waitress. Clearly she loves her job and the people she is serving just starting out with a hot chocolate I knew we had come to the right place. We waited over 30 minutes at the Maine diner to be seated at a table that 4 adults could not fit. They were not pleases that I asked for another table. My son and husband went across the street to the Bull n Claw and come back and said that's where we should be. So over we went. The menu is great and my son and I started with the salad bar and soup delicious"! My husband got the fish and chips special and our birthday girl got the raviolis. Worst service. Our waitress Michelle, or at least we thought she knew her job was a waitress was horrible. We tried the breakfast buffet, and what a mistake that was. We were seated, and she promptly took our drink orders, brought them back and we never saw her, until we had to ask another waitress where our check was. We only got one refill of our drinks, our plates sat on the table the whole time we were there, The food was very subpar. The eggs were out of a bag, I have worked in many kitchens, and you know the product. The bacon seemed like it was a good product, thickish cut, but 3/4 of what was being served was burnt. Otherwise the food was ok. Nothing to write home about. If the Maine diner was not at an hour wait, we would have gone there. Michelle needs to get her act together and actually do the job she is being paid for. We then could not leave because their computer was broken, so not only did we have a bad experience, we were stuck waiting till it got fixed. There was an older woman who was a waitress, and she was the one who took our plates away, and told us that the younger waitresses drive her nuts, and I can see why. Michelle would look in our direction, you could clearly see our drinks were empty, and she would walk off somewhere else. It is pretty bad when another waitress does your job. Lets just say we were a party of 3 and she got a .17 cent tip. When she came to take our drink orders we told her we needed 2 separate checks, yet we got only one. You need to hire waitresses who actually know what they are doing, and actually wants to earn tips. read more
